This is a cheerleading competition. The contemporary choreographies that win are 90% acro tricks and 10% dance. The lady in the backstage is super rude and couldn’t be worst at making the kids nervous. The ballet class is a contemporary class and not a classic ballet class. They don’t have staff for that and don’t value the dance base. If you are looking for DANCE this is not the competition for you. No levels so advanced and beginners run together. The convention is mandatory because it’s expensive and doesn’t worth it.

If I could rate higher than a 5 star, I would!! This is by far our favorite competition and convention. The staff is top notch!! We have attended 5-6 of the Vibes for the past couple years, in Des Moines, St. Louis, Chicago, Colorado, AZ and California. The classes are fun, challenging and the competition is run smoothly with wonderful judging and critiques! Liz Imperio gives a parent class that has been so helpful and inspiring, I would recommend to any parent! We also have went to Nationals which are just as amazing. They always choose top notch venues that are easy to find in locations that are convenient.
We enjoy this competition every year. Lots of fun and not too crowed. Fair judging, great classes, and instructors. We will be back!
Very disappointed in this event, saw one of the directors screaming at staff when she thought no one could see her... Unprofessional.
I thought this was a great convention. The staff was great, the kids really love the teachers. Now, let me just tell you the best part.....as a parent I am often disappointed in the photos, but Take Creative takes it to a whole new level of awesome. I will be disappointed in every other convention now, just because of how great they are. The pictures are beyond fabulous, they get great shots AND for only a small fee you can have them go in and take pictures of your kid during class. They happen to do my daughter during the audition class and let me say these are the best pictures I have ever seen. Only reason I gave 4 stars is I might have seen a little scholarship/audition bias, but we are attending 2 more cities so the jury is out on that one until I have more experience.
We cannot say enough about Hollywood Vibe. We attend 2-3 every year and always have the best experience no matter where the location. Our kids have gotten to know the staff on a more personal level because of the personal interest they take in the dancers. The teachers are top notch and their master classes challenging, but yet fun!! Liz is such an inspiration to not only the kids, but parents. She is so knowledgeable about the dance world because of her many experiences. We attended Nationals for the first time this past year and had the best time. It overlapped with the Dance Awards, so we had to cut it short and that bummed us out, but we are so glad we went and were able to spend the time we did!!
The judging and scoring is continually biased along with the convention classes. Teachers tended to pick out dancer that they have worked with in the past and even knew by name instead of this that really deserved it. The staff and judges and teachers were amazing and I learned a lot. Although the judges seemed to stay on one topic most of the dance instead of sharing all ideas and critiques.
Not my favorite. Convention room to small. I think winners are somewhat pre-determined based on money they bring in and if repeat attenders. Good instructors though .
Hollywood Vibe has always been one of our favorites! The teachers and master classes are excellent and they really seem to take a personal part in educating the dancers. They are fun and upbeat! We go every year and will continue until my daughter is no longer dancing. Highly recommended!!
We absolutely LOVE Hollywood Vibe! The teachers are fantastic - they teach great technique as well as great life lessons! The event is extremely well organized and starts and finishes on time consistently. My daughter has been on their company for years and has been lucky enough to create life long relationships with many of their faculty! The other great thing - they do NOT let their dance rooms get too crowded. They cut off attendance at a reasonable level so that each dancer can see the teacher easily. Big advantage over other conventions we have attended. They also give out a TON of scholarships making it easier for studios to really benefit from attending. I can\'t say enough good things about Hollywood Vibe and I can\'t wait for their season to begin!
I go to a lot of competition/conventions a year and every year I get so excited to go back to Hollywood Vibe! This competition is by far my favorite. Other conventions are contemporary crazy and only praise contemporary. I love that at Hollywood Vibe there\'s more than just contemporary classes and faculty is well rounded in all styles of dance. The faculty is also super nice and motivational! I love the closing shows, the competition and classes. Hollywood Vibe is overall a great competition/convention to go to.
We attend a number of conventions/competitions a year, Hollywood Vibe is always my students and parents favorite. The faculty is extremely motivational and personable. The event is well organized an we love that the competition is always on time. Looking forward to another great year at Hollywood Vibe!
I would highly recommend Hollywood Vibe Dance Competition/Convention to all dancers at all levels. As a parent I have been going to dance competitions/conventions for 9 years and with that being said my daughter and I love this dance competition/convention. My daughter has been going to Hollywood Vibe since she\'s been 5 years old and we\'ve just completed our 8th year attending Hollywood Vibe Nationals. The faculty that they have is the best in the industry and their classes are amazing. The competition is run very professional and runs smooth and efficient. The convention locations are nice and the convention rooms have plenty of dance space. All of the convention classes are amazing. One of the highlights of the weekend is that they offer a parent meeting on \"How to Guide a Successful Dancer.\" that is free for all parents to attend. I have attended this class and the information that is provided is unbelievable and extremely valuable. Hollywood Vibe has a dance company that they began about four years ago. Selected dancers from regional cities are invited to audition for the company. Dancers who make the company get to work with the dance faculty who are all working dancers in the dance industry. Being on the dance company is an amazing experience for any dancer. Hollywood Vibe company members are not eligible for scholarships and do not perform their solos at any of the regional cities they attend. They are however allowed to perform with their studio in their group numbers and or duo/trios in the state that their studio is located. I have seen several dancers who have been a part of the Hollywood Vibe Dance company and they have grown so much over the course of a year working with the faculty. They also build life time friendships with dancers from all over the country. We will continue to attend Hollywood Vibe and I encourage anyone who has a child that loves dance to attend this fun and amazing convention/competition.
Not a fan. This is the second experience and both were not great. A huge issue both times was simply overcrowding in convention classrooms. Insane. Not conducive to learning. Many teachers seemed very detached from the students. Competition was ok. The final awards show was ridiculous and far too long. Having final auditions on stage is completely unnecessary. The Hotel Murano was awful. The only redeeming thing is a couple of personal staff interactions were good and the restaurant was good. The staff was not prepared for this event, some weren\'t even aware it was happening. Would not recommend Hollywood Vibe.
Good space in rooms good classes, Changed their scoring this year though and its quite hard.
Recently attended this convention for a 2nd time, it was a major disappointment! The venue chosen in Tacoma, WA was ill equipped to handle an event like this. Room sizes were WAY to small for the amount of kids in the room. In comparison to other conventions I felt like the teachers didn\'t interact with the kids as much and some seem very unapproachable. This was the 1st time our team competed at this convention and it is VERY obvious that HV has favorite studios (especially the studios that have multiple kids on the HV performance company). For the money we pay to enter this competition I felt the awards were pretty lame. Most competitions supply at a minimum pins and most do pins and either a medal or trophy. The only pins given are for solos, no trophies or medals. Plaques are given for overalls, but that\'s it. The kids get laminated cards with pictures of the teachers on them. There isn\'t even an option to purchase pins. The faculty show is entirely too long, at the end of a long weekend the last thing anyone wants to do is sit through a 2 hour show!!
Convention: My kids and their friends liked the convention part of it and most of the instructors. The room was way too crowded and pushy kids. My daughter got kicked in the face because kids would not give here space. She just ended up in the back and could not see. Some of the rooms were not big enough to accommodate all of the kids. I suggest they set up a big screen in all the rooms so all of the kids see the instructors. I paid good money for my kids to learn but instead had to follow the kids in front of them not the instructor. The auditions were a joke because they had already picked the winners during classes. Not a surprised at who won because I stopped by all the rooms and they were preselected. Competition: I Would not let me kids compete at the competition ever again! My daughter was backstage and overheard her competitors say they were nervous to the staff and they said don\'t worry we will make sure you win and they did. This particular duet was in the Teens AND Senior category. How does that work? Not a average if they were the same participants. They also favored the studios with students who were company dancers. Scoring was ridiculous. Nothing positive to say about the competition. Very disappointed and upset I even spent the money for something that was not fair for all!!!
The main reason for 3 stars is the extreme length of the day. For some dancers, the competition will start Friday morning and last all day. For the rest, dancers arrive at 7:30 AM on Saturday, dance til 2:45, compete anywhere from 3:45 til 11:45 PM, then awards start at 11:45 PM (last about 45 minutes). Your first full day is 17 hours long! On Sunday, dancers started class at 8:00AM, having only a few hours of sleep and finish after the very long ending program (which was extremely loud). Even the most fit and mature dancers will have a hard time handling this brutal schedule. It is not realistic. Families with younger dancers will have a very hard time because though they may end a bit earlier, you can\'t leave if you have older girls or want to stay for awards. Our girls did not have a long enough break to leave the venue at all (17 straight hours!). Our venue doesn\'t allow any outside food, therefore, you had to buy the fried concession stand food for lunch or go eat outside. For dinner, concessions stands were closed but the doors all had guards. You either ate in the parking lot, your car or tried to sneak in food to your child that was starving at this point. Pros: the classes were fun, the competition ran on time and the dances were space apart enough to give dancers time to change. This could be a very good convention/competition if they were realistic with their time frames.
The only reason I gave this two stars because of the vendors... Competition/convention schedule is ridiculous: 8am to midnight on Friday alone is reason to skip. Add in selfish, self-absorbed instructors(way too young of a group), studio favorites (many of the winners had members in their \'company\' that forgot the audition combos on stage, and crappy venue choice made for a terrible weekend. Hope we don\'t go back.
Just ok we have been to many conventions and this company definitely seems to favor certain studios and boys just because they are boys. Venue classrooms were way too crowded for observers. Ridiculous to pay $45 for observer band and then have to sit on the floor. Closing show WAY WAY WAY too long and too loud!
MINI workshop review - PROS : Actual Warm - up done at beginning. Kent the Jazz instructor was upbeat and fun and seem to engage well with the kids Caitlyn the Ballet instructor was GREAT - very hands on and not teaching to a combination, but just teaching important points of ballet The room setup had a lot of chairs for observers and there was water in the room Also, there was an actual stage setup which put the Instructors up above so the kids could see - been to other workshops in same exact room with no stage and it\'s hard to see what the teachers are doing. There was an actual audition combo for scholarships to upcoming conventions which was really great experience for younger dancers that are under 7. CONS : room too crowded, should consider limiting registrations or budgeting an increase for additional flooring so the kids have more square footage to dance on. Tap teacher was not good -- kept referring to the children as slugs and the combination he was teaching was WAY way too fast and included technical moves that many kids didn\'t know -- some of the 8 year olds were keeping up, but the younger ones were lost. Jump clicks, Buffaloes etc. outside of the usual first tap class stuff. Also, it\'s impossible to tap on carpet? Many kids checked out during this portion and I don\'t blame them! Pretty bad. Awards and scholarships were given to boys because they are boys, their dancing was definitely sub par to some of the other girls in the room who were overlooked. I would return, it\'s good experience being a longer day for younger dancers leadin in to the longer days they will have as they age into the full weekend conventions. Overall the staff were great with the exception of tap which really didn\'t translate well for such a young audience, kids were 5 to 8.
Always a good event!
one of the best competitions and conventions. great stage, great venues, great faculty! class schedule is intense but not overwhelming & the faculty makes relationships with returning dancers and offer individual advice after & during classes (which aide everyone as well). between the staff, the resources made available to the attendees are great! competitions is organized and judges offer really beneficial critiques. i\'ve loved my years competing and dancing with them!
Hollywood Vibe is one of the best dance conventions out there. All the teachers are highly qualified and they really care about the kids. The faculties were also very helpful and the competition ran on time and awards ceremony was just perfect. The teachers critique is fair. Of coarse not everyone will get an award, you have to earn it and work hard for it and at the end you will get something big. I think they give great awards and MANY MORE compare to other dance conventions. People who comment negative things about HV probably didn\'t win or get any scholarship but that\'s how dance is all about, its not always about winning!!! The pictures was also great, I mean who takes pictures throughout the convention from the stage to the dance floor. Last, the closing show was also amazing! The staff performed and the HV team assistance also were very helpful through out. If I can give 10 stars, I will give HV all the star. Love, love this convention. Don\'t believe in all these negativity please. Im a parent, been to so many dance conventions and believe me, this is one of the best!!! Thank You Hollywood Vibe for all your hard work and dedication....
Staff not very personal. They do not engage with the kids well. Same teachers at other comps seem better when not there. Horrible video quality. Endong show waaay too long&seemed focused on the comp teachers and not the paying customers. Commincation from staff about order of events is very poor. Some kids almost missed their dances. They could keep studio owners better informed of where they are in the program. Not at all warm and fuzzy like others. Hearing a teacher yawn during judging feedback, and only say 3-4 words, is just ridiculous.
My dance team and I really don\'t like this competition/convention. The classes are boring, competition lasts too long. Awards are cheap and judging is hard, but they have some great comments. I only like one of the teachers, the rest of them are just not the best. One time we had to go to nationals for this competition and it was 4 days of classes with competition going until midnight afterward. We were just too exhausted to have any fun. This year if our studio decides to go back for nationals, our team has decided to decline to attend. The only reason we keep coming back is that the staff likes one of the girls from our studio.
This was our first year at HV. The classes were good. My child especially loved the ballet and Mark\'s classes. The event was very disorganized. The convention was packed and it seemed like the staff was not prepared for the number of attendees.
loved the convention and the teachers. did not like the competition they tend to favor certain studios over others
Love HWV been going for 4 years now and it is my favorite convention. Good teachers, but i do wish the rooms were less crowded. Competitions is fairly scored, but i wish they would improve on their photo/video quality.
It was fun but the scoring was harsh and the compition wasn\'t good but convention was fun! Loved kent and the teachers!
Convention is fantastic! In our area the competition is incredibly long after having convention all day. The stage is not very big, making it difficult for larger groups to perform, or even smaller groups to dance their routines
Love the faculty and the classes! Great energy! Very organized! Plus the company dancers, assistants, and the workers there are so nice. Hollywood Vibe is awesome :)
We had a great time! The teachers were very solid and accessible for questions. A good time for all.
Looooooong days! It\'s good but prefer to go to Jump, Nuvo etc......
Love this convention! not so big and the teachers are awesome!
Love the convention....except that in the 4 years we have attended we have only had 1 of the \"big shots\" for only half of the convention. If you\'re not going to have them there consistently. Don\'t advertise it. Overall good size and set up. Staff is super friendly. Competition was so/so. Our girls awards were plastic tags with last years date on them. That was most disappointing part to us.
Only experienced the mini convention portion. Room WAY too crowded, horrible set-up. Teachers were ok, did not seem overly engaged. Looking toward to next year in the junior room, heard good things about that.
Good comp. Definitely inspirational. Teachers seemed somewhat cold and definitely had their favorites in class. Would have been nice to try to engage and inspire all the dancers, not just the fabulous ones. The number of kids dancing per room was ridiculous. Very impersonal experience but the dancing was awesome. The shoe at the end was waaaaay too long. One or two dances would have been great. Seemed like the teachers were showing off a bit. Having the auditions have their last few cuts on stage with the audience was too much after a weekend of dancing all day and competing. Need to rethink how they do it. It was enjoyable but has LOTS of room for improvement. Would consider going again because of the level of talent but do not have high expectations for the staff. Also, they GAVE some people HWVibe pins for their jackets and lied and told others they were not available. Not cool! Judges commentary needs to have all3on one disc like at other comps and would be nicer for the kids to appreciate if it included the video.
Great competition. Daughter enjoyed all of the classes and the teacher. Main complaint would be that it started so early (8 am) and ended so late (12 am). Had to come back the next day from 8 am to 4 pm. Children were exhausted the next day.
This is definitely one of my favorite comps! Love the convention too! Great teachers! My students got so much out of the convention! I would say this is for the more advanced dancer though! The beginner dancer or first time competitor may have a hard time keeping up and there are no level differences for the competitors!
Love this competition! The faculty is amazing and very qualified. All of my students learned so much over the span of the entire weekend. It is a very long weekend for younger ones, but well worth the experience and special awards, scholarships, etc that you get out of it. We love it so much, we try to do two cities every year!
Really enjoyed the convention
Love Hollywood Vibe! Highly suggest only bringing serious dancers to this convention and competition! Teachers are FABULOUS! The routines are judged extremely fair. Wish the Critiques could come back on a DVD with video instead of just voice… hard for kids to realize what exactly they need to fix! The mini convention is perfect for the age… But As a 9 year old you cannot get a scholarship at all! So make sure you audition in the correct age group! Overall LOVE the experience the kids get and it is very well organized!
Hollywood Vibe is a long competition. It\'s expensive and it\'s a 3 day commitment for dancers and families. However, my dancer and our studio loves this competition! The master classes are awesome. The kids learn a lot and the instructors make it a fun, yet challenging experience. I do wish they wouldn\'t charge the parents to view the classes because the competition is already so expensive. Anyway, awards run late into the night. Often starting at 11:30pm or later. This makes for a sluggish Monday morning. The judges and teachers perform an amazing show on the last competition day! All in all, it\'s money well spent!
Loved the convention and the competition. I know my dancers earn there score based on there dancing not there props. Just wish the girls backstage spoke to the dancers a little nicer.
Love this one!
Started at 8am on a Friday so my daughter had to skip school. Lasted a very long time and all the children were exhausted. My daughter enjoyed the classes. The Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum is a terrible venue.
Great competition, with a few flaws. Competition started at 8:00 AM on Friday, so my mom and I had to choose between school and dance. Plus, the schedule was hard to follow for us dancers because they were constantly skipping ahead and going back. You were told you were on in four dances, and then they called the number before you. This caused big confusion for me. Plus, the awards had only adjudication and the 1st overall winner (no top tens and judges awards only for groups.) other than that, the teachers were helpful and the venue was nice. I anticipate nationals.
amazing! i have gotten so many great oppurtunities there and really grew as a dancer. my dance won nationals one year and had a blast! LOVE and RECCOMMEND
The insane schedule prompted me to write a review. I understand that conventions are exhausting but this one crossed the line. The competition started Friday morning at 8AM so families had to decide if their child was going to miss school. Ran from 8AM til 10PM followed by awards on Friday. Got to bed after midnight. Dancers had to arrive by 7:45. Danced til 2:45 followed by competition from 3:00 til 12:15 AM followed by awards! Got to bed at 1:30AM followed by Sunday class with auditions at 8:00AM. Many felt that they simply could not do their best. People were exhausted. Parents of the younger kids were at their wits end. Classes were okay but didn\'t compare in quality to other conventions we have attended. We felt that the focus was more on the instructor and assistants showing off his/her skills (as though it was a performance for them) compared to the focus being on the dancers. I noticed some (not all) were self absorbed and didn\'t seem to be paying attention to the dancers. In one class, you could barely hear the instructor. My daughter rated this one as \"bottom of her list\" and hopes the studio doesn\'t decide to attend next year.
This is by far my favorite competition!!! This one is a must go to!!!
This was my daughters first convention experience several years ago and it was such a great experience!
We liked this convention. Good knowledgable instructors with lots of professional experience.
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!!!!!!
Love the convention/competition element. Great early comp to get your feet wet with amazing faculty!
Favorite competition of the year! They are just amazing!!
Love this comp. Staff are fabulous - kind, caring and genuine. Judging is fair and critiques are helpful.
I really enjoyed this convention last year. My daughter learned alot!
This convention was a lot of fun. the rooms were not as overcrowded as most conventions, and the competition was pretty good
Absolutely LOVE this competition/convention! Very good opportunities for the kids and the staff is so nice and uplifting! :)
Fair, fun, and challenging:)
Awesome convention. The director is great and all of their staff is also very helpful & approachable. Anything with Liz Imperio and I'm there! Plus the rest of the faculty is great too! Went to this event after HOF cancelled their convention and Chris (the director) definitely took care of us. We will be going again and again...
Just got back from Nationals. Amazing experience. I have never known a faculty to be so supportive of the kids. They were fantastic! Highly recommend this one!
Attended this for the first time this past year and was very pleased. My daughter, who is 8, learned so much and was so inspired by the amazing faculty. Not to mention she developed a major crush on Kent Boyd! Can\'t wait until next year to attend again.
My daughter doesn\'t usually like conventions because it can get too crowded. However, she loved this convention/competition. She loved all the instructors and she felt she really learned a lot. We would definitely go back.
Wow. Surprised by all of the good comments. Hollywood Vibe was one of the worst events we\'ve been to. Compared to Jump, NYCDA, Nuvo, it seems much lower quality. Nothing particularly wrong with faculty, just not GREAT by any means.
One of the best convention/comps out there.. Teachers are amazing, loved how excited they all are... when judging they are actually interested, smiling, clapping.. and more. Fantastic classes!
My studio attended Hollywood Vibe in Chicago. Classes were great. Rooms not so crowded the kids couldn\'t move and the teachers gave the dancers personal corrections! Love that! Competition was well run and on time. They were nice enought to let us register late because of the problems with I Hollywood in Chicago. Promptly returned calls and very helpful. We would definitely do this one again!
Love HV. The classes are fun and judging is fair. Be prepared, the final audition is in front of EVERYONE.
One of the best conventions I have ever been to! So much fun! All the teachers were very good and the classes were very educational. Adrian and Jamie were very inspirational. Go to this convention!
Hollywood vibe was one of my favorite conventions I've ever participated in. Adrian Lee is AWESOME and the competition is wonderfully organized.
this convention is awesome, the teachers are amazing and aren't afraid to interact with the kids. I would nightly recommend this convention/competition!
ADRIAN IS A HOTAAAAYY
My daughter says it was her favorite convention even and she has been attending conventions for 7 years now. Big words. Definitely will do that one again.
