Out of all of the competitions my dancer has had this season, this one was the most poorly run and seemed to have the worst scoring for the solo dancers. There were long gaps in between every single group dance throughout the day. I am talking a five to ten minute gap in between each group performance. Come to find out, it was because one studio who threw everything off. They were consistently not ready on time for any of their group dances, because they took their sweet time with quick changes, causing the group dances to run out of order and make what should have been seamless, chaotic. Edge should have disqualified that studio from the event after the second or third time that happened instead of allowing one studio to control the whole day and creating so much chaos. The judging for the solo dancers did not seem consistent whatsoever. This is one of those events where parents can buy their dancer special awards, including enter them to win the best solo dancer overall instead of dancers simply earning that legitimately on their own merit. I am hoping our studio will not participate with this competition organization going forward.

We have competed at Edge for several years, and we consistently have had a positive experience. Well run, good energy, pulls in a lot of good, local competitive studios. Looking forward to them again this year.
Love this competition. Owners are amazing to work with.
We really liked Edge - it was our first year attending and it is on our schedule to go back this year. We felt like the judging was extremely fair, the competition was fun, they\'re easy to work with, and the venue was nice. The only reason it\'s 4 out of 5 stars and not 5/5 is two tiny things that I felt were pretty unfair and, while not a deal-breaker, it is something I\'d like to see changed. The first is that, while they have two levels, anyone can compete in any level. There is no 50% rule like at most other comps, so the girl in the advanced level who won petite miss edge, was allowed to compete in a novice duet against kids taking way less hours than her, and she obviously crushed them. Trust me, I understand when there are kids better than my kids - I have no problem conceding when there is a better dancer and we lose. But EVERYONE else in the category felt it was unfair that they didn\'t even have a shot from the start. When we asked about it too, they said that they didn\'t have the 50% as a rule, just a recommendation, and it was up to the teachers\' discretion. I feel like it should be looked into to make it a rule, because a lot of teachers are jerks and cheat their kids down even when it is a rule, so you KNOW they aren\'t going to follow a \"recommendation\". My second tiny issue is that the MC coaches kids from a studio that was competing at that particular competition. I know an MC isn\'t a judge, but you never know how involved all that gets. Plus he is the one who picks kids who get to take part in a special team at nationals - the majority of which being his. I know a lot of people cross paths in the industry, but if there is going to be a studio you\'ve worked with at one of your comps, let someone else pick the kids for awards at that city so it at least feels more fair. All in all though, especially compared to the insurmountable list of problems throughout most competitions, Edge is really great. We love it!
This was our second year at the Edge in Wichita, we love this competition! It runs on time or ahead, the staff is professional and the awards are easy to follow along with for my parents. My kids enjoy the two levels of competition that they offer. Overall we did very well as a studio, Edge will always be on our Wichita schedule!

The competition itself was nice, but the judges were all over the place. They rarely awarded platinum so the entire weekend. Then, after getting back home and listening to the critiques, there was no explanation as to why the kids scored the way they did. They barely said three words throughout the critique. Backstage crew was very nice and fun.
Amazing comp....well run...fair....personable and everything u can ask for.....never a disappointment with this comp an the staff......10 stars...
Thank you for your comments.. We appreciate you taking the time to give us your thoughts.
Consistently one of the most professional competitions we attend. I am a parent of a 13 year-old dancer. The Edge competition is very organized. Staff are knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. I have spoken to the owner for two years now, and am impressed with how hard he works to make this a GREAT experience for every dancer. I read some of the bad reviews from when their truck was stolen & the equipment didn\'t show up, but I also think about how much Edge went out of their way to ensure the competition still happened for all those who were expecting a great weekend. This year, Edge has a new backdrop which shows up great in pictures. They also have professional lighting for each dance and the awards ceremony. Award ceremonies start out with exciting music, sirens and a great light show - the kids LOVE IT! Then workers throw free t-shirts & swag to the girls and audience. The ceremony itself is run efficiently, however, the announcers take the time to recognize each winner and make them feel special (kneeling down to the little one\'s level, asking each dancer a few questions, making sure each winner takes a bow, etc.) Also, tap is recognized as a separate category, so this often-overlooked genre gets it\'s due recognition. The Edge sound system is professional and there were absolutely no issues or problems with sound. The photographer & video personnel do a great job. I ordered three videos & 2 pictures & received them on Tuesday morning via email. You can also bring your own thumb drive, or purchase one for $15 if you want immediate delivery. Edge always has the latest swag & this year the hot sellers seemed to be the v-neck long sleeve t-shirts & the jogger pants.
Nice competition. A bit small, but still a good experience. Staff was professional and kids had a good time.
We attended Edge-Woodbridge this past weekend and as a first time comp mom with a first time comp dancer, I felt it went well considering most of Edge\'s equipment never showed up. As the mom of a tapper, I was concerned about the floor, but our kids pulled off their routine. They all love the backstage manager and said he calmed their nerves and made them laugh. I had no idea what to expect with regards to dressing rooms, but there was plenty of space and everyone was considerate and helpful. The concessions were a nice touch with plenty of offerings and I liked that those proceeds benefited the host high school. I sure hope that our critiques are helpful. I know one of our solos has already received hers and she didn\'t find them all that helpful at all. I know it must have been difficult for the Judges to write and watch when they are used to being able to audio record their critiques. I would have been nice if the Edge award was explained. Finally, not having merchandise was a big disappointment for my dancer. She really wanted a pin and shirt from her first comp, but it is what it is and I\'m hoping our DT is going to contact Edge to see if we can order pins for the girl. Overall we had a good experience considering it wasn\'t the comp Edge had hoped to put on.
Thank you for understanding the complexities of running a show under normal circumstance. We strive to give you the best and fairest competition on a consistent basis.
We attended the Edge in Woodbridge Va. The venue was ok however would have liked the dressing rooms closer to the auditorium. Judging was very low across the board. The only staff that I am able to rate would be the MC. I felt like I was at a \"frat\" party at times. The constant up and down of music did not make the experience enjoyable. The \"Edge\" award was not explained but just given. Other staff was nowhere to be found. Programs were for sale however just on a table without signage so hard to find. With the many other competitions out there I would not recommend a studio going and wasting their money.
We would like to apologize that we didn\'t meet your expectations. We had our truck stolen and could not get it there in time for the competition. We did everything we could to make the experience the best under the circumstances. We rented a sound system and had a backdrop and awards driven through the night so we wouldn\'t have to cancel the show for the dancers.
I attended Woodbridge, VA this weekend. I am absolutely amazed at the Edge Staff! Their equipment truck broke down states away and they still pulled off another amazing show! I judge for several competitions and whenever issues arise its incredibly stressful. When a staff can pull together and \"make it happen\" because they care so much for their company and those attending it\'s beyond words. I will absolutely be attending Edge regionals again and am looking forward to Nationals in Hershey,PA! A standing ovation to you Edge! Way to go showing that a dance competition is all about teamwork and dedication!
1 star
As a parent I have been attending dance competitions for 10 years. This is one of the worst that I have been to. Their truck broke down so no marley on the stage, which made for a slippery dangerous floor for the kids. The judges had to hand critique the routine because their equipment was on the truck. I am sure this could have been remedied by tracking down a rental company. I felt the judging was inconsistent. The music way to loud during breaks, the kids complained about the backstage manager. Overall for us it was a bad experience!
Attended this competition for the first time and we will definitely be returning next season. I really appreciated the frindly staff out front and stage mgr, Caleb, was great with all the dancers. It was a great start to open our season!
Thank you so much Ms. D, we appreciate you giving us your comments and hope you have a wonderful competition season.
I\'ve been a competition mom for 8 years and have attended more competitions than I care to remember. Edge is the BEST I\'ve ever been to. The nicest, friendliest staff ever. Judging was very fair - even for our dances that didn\'t do well.
Thank you so much for taking the time to give us a review. We are so glad we met your expectations.. Thank you!!
We attended this competition for the first time last year and we loved it. We cant wait till this years competition.
Thank you and can\'t wait for the season to start..
FANTASTIC COMP!!! The staff and judges were so friendly and helpful...they made the kids feel so special. The judges comments were so helpful. Love their attention to tap!
Thank you, we appreciate your feedback and hope to see you again this season!
:)
Glad we could make you smile.. Thank you!
I loved edge it was very organized and on schedule and everything was in place great competition
Thank you for your kind words and compliment!!
We have attended this for 2 years along with nationals and I truly can say we LOVE everything about it. Th staff is amazing, the owners are REAL and what you see is what you get. My kids feel so comfortable on stage knowing the judges are actually watching. Nationals were so fun this year.....feel AT HOME..kudos to each and everyone of you at the edge and keep doing what u do. My only complaint or critique would be would love to see 3 levels of dance instead of just 2.....we will always support the edge though and thank you from a very happy studio owner.
Thank you for being part of the Edge family. Can\'t wait to see you next year!!
I have been going to dance competitions for 20 years. Edge is the best I have ever been to. They are organized, judged fairly, and a lot of fun for the the dancers and their families watching. I love the way the judges get into every dance. They make the dancer feel good. The judge\'s awards are special because the judge gives them out and says something nice to the performers. Our studio has been to the Edge regionals this year and last year and to their Nationals last summer. We have also attended their intensive workshops the last two years. No other competition compares to Edge. Can\'t wait to do it again.
Thank you so much, that is quite the compliment. Thank you so much fro sharing your experience.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING Competition !!! Edge thinks of everything to make their competition a wonderful experience for the dancers, teachers, studio owners and parents. The show runs on time or early due to the excellent managing skills of the Backstage Manager and the Owners themselves who are part of every aspect of the competition. The judges are fair and are thoroughly engaged in each performance. The judging is so consistent and Platinums are not just awarded to everyone which allows top routines to stand out. The judges give out their \"Special Awards\" which the dancers love because they feel like the judges truly appreciated their performances. Their MC makes the awards fun and moves the awards along so the audience and dancers aren\'t bored. I would recommend this competition to all studios.
Absolutely had an AMAZING time!! Staff was so friendly! Tons of energy!! Very ORGANIZED!! The best of all they are so accommodating!!! Ran a very smooth show! YES, I said show because that is exactly what we felt we were watching!!
Thank you for taking the time to let us know how we did. We appreciate your feedback, hope to see you next year!

Awesome comp! On time, fair and fun!
Thank you for taking the time to give us a review.
This was our first year at Edge, and we selected it with help from the reviews on this site. We were very pleased with everything - the venue was nice, the staff was great, the environment was fun and family friendly. We did not sense any favoritism in judging. Our parents really enjoyed the whole competition, and we will definitely be returning to Edge. As a smaller studio that wants competing to be fun and rewarding, it can be hard to find competitions that don\'t favor large studios or cater to teams that rehearse 40 hours a week. Edge was a great experience for our teams.
Thank you for taking the time to let us know how we are doing.
Wonderful experience for dancers and parents alike. The vibe of the competition is so positive and upbeat, they make the awards and in between dances entertaining for not just the dancers, but audience members as well.Their entire staff, from the emcees, to backstage, retail, camera crew, etc, are staffed with people who have worked in the industry, so they understand what hard work the dancers put in, and tailor the competition experience to them. We have gone every year since it opened, and have never been disappointed. Just nice to attend a competition that dosen\'t feel so tense and drama filled, but fun and enjoyable. We love Edge!
Thank you for your feedback
Overall, I was quite pleased with this competition. The venue was ok, not ideal, but it is a fairly common location for competitions in our area, so it was certainly tolerable. The judges were fabulous, particularly Mr. JB! His genuine enthusiasm was not only refreshing, but also energizing, especially for our dancers performing! Critiques were very fun to listen to! Scoring was pretty consistent. I appreciated that platinums were given very sparingly, and only to routines that truly deserved them. However, I do wish that because they were so sparing in giving their highest level of awards, that they would have given more lower level awards. They never gave anything lower than a gold, even though there were several categories of awards below that (high silver, silver, silver-bronze, etc.). The only other aspect of this competition that I disliked was that tap was judged completely separately from all other acts. I found this very strange, and have never seen this done before. Our tap routines scored very well and would have placed in the top 5, but because tap was it\'s own division entirely, winning felt a little less legitimate when you\'re only up against a couple other routines. All in all, the competition was a very enjoyable experience and our dancers loved it! I especially liked the judge\'s awards, they were much more thoughtful and meaningful than you would find at a typical competition. We would definitely attend Edge again, but we would probably not take our tap routines.
Thank you for your comments, we appreciate the feedback as we strive to improve your overall experience.
We love Edge. Tap has it\'s own separate top 10 overalls, which is so wonderful for studios with strong tap. Very well ran and organized. We got great critiques from the judges. Awards were a tad long, but they try to make it about the kids. But it\'s hard when people have 3 hours to drive and the competition has been 3 days already, haha. Staff is very friendly and easy to work with. Thanks for always making out weekends enjoyable.
Thank you for your your comments and your support for Edge.
Enjoyed my experience with them this weekend in Detroit. Ran slightly ahead, awards were fair and exciting - as a teacher I really appreciated that they gave out platinums very sparingly. The staff was very friendly, helpful and accommodating when I had to add a dancer at the last minute. We also loved Mr. JB! The one thing I will say though is the event staff they had manning the lobby were pretty rude. I\'m pretty sure, however, that they were with the venue and not the actual competition. My only other complaint is that it\'d be nice to have video critiques.
Thank you for your feedback. I would like to apologize if the venue staff was rude in any way. We appreciate you letting us know and will take that in consideration in the future. Thank you again for being part of Edge.
Awards too long and confusing to parents. Overall o.k. competition.
Thank you for taking the time to give your feed back on our competition. Please feel free to call the office to discuss where the confusion may have come from. We are always looking to improve and don\'t want anyone leaving our competition confused. Thank you
We attended this competition for the first time in Norristown, Pa. It was our first competition of the season and I couldn\'t be happier with the competition. The owner was approachable and friendly, the back stage staff was engaging and kept the dancers happy and entertained while still keeping everyone on schedule and the judges critiques were relevant and thoughtful. My dancers were happy, the parents were impressed and my staff had a blast. Amazing weekend, we will be returning!
Thank you so much for taking time to give a review. We appreciate your comments and am glad we met your expectations. We are excited to be coming back to Philadelphia next year.
Excellent competition experience. A special thanks to Scott Gill for helping us get started. Daughter had a great time doing her first solo ever! Will be back next year.
So glad you had a good time and everything went smooth for her first competition.
Excellent Competition! Staff very friendly and professional in every way. Show ran on time, awards were lots of fun! We will certainly be coming back to the EDGE! Thanks for a great time!
Thank you for your kind words, and so glad you had a great time. We will see you next year!!
Best competition by far! Regionals were great and can not wait to attend your nationals in Branson. Keep up the good work!
Thank you and can\'t wait to see you at National!!
This was a great convention and the people were so great and friendly.
First time attending. Good competition. Loved the results online after.
We went to the one in Witcha and it was great excpet for the walk from the parking lot up to the doors. Plus we had to pay for parking.
Had a wonderful time at Edge this weekend in Detroit. Competition was very well run, fair judging & fun for everyone. I would love to see our studio make this an annual competition!
This was my daughters first year competing:) We have enjoyed an amazing season with our team and all the competition\'s we have been at. By far Edge was the best competition!! We ended the season at Edge with a big win. But most importantly, the staff was so nice, respectful, fun, and I thought the judges scores were accurate.
Thank you for your kind words and hope to see you next year.
I\'ve got to say, this was a well-run competition. Platinum were only given to those dances that REALLY deserved it. Of all the dances we took to this comp, only 2 received Platinum--the rest got High Gold--and there were not too many rewarded...that was refreshing. That gave so much credibility to the acts that deserved it. The backstage staff was so very nice. We had young children doing solo, who were nervous or not well, and the staff really put them at ease and made them feel comfortable, ready to go! Thank you so much for a wonderful experience...see you at Nationals!
A great competition! Absolutely loved it! Friendly, helpful staff, and ran just slightly ahead of schedule which was nice. They had really nice awards and they were very fast with giving them out! Good quality stage and sound, judges were great and were always excited to see every routine. Really nothing negative at all to say. It was a wonderful experience and can\'t wait to go back next year!!
Love Edge! Great staff, ran on time, great pictures, wonderful awards, and possibly the best judges of any competition we attended. The judges were fair, friendly, and excited to see every number! And we\'re a brand new, tiny studio so there\'s no favoritism to large \'big money\' studios. I also love competitions where judges come on stage and present their own awards and explain why it caught their eye...it means so much more coming from them rather than the announcer passing them out.
Edge is growing strong!!!! Becoming a very popular Competition....!!! The BEST staff, The BEST Backstage guy,..Mista Kris..{if I most add my wonderful husband}...He is GREAT and fun with the kids...Alot of entertainment from the staff....Could not ask for a better time when you attend EDGE!!! You won\'t be disappointed!!!
Lots of fun watching Mr. Kris enjoyed edge all around all year! Great people wonderful dancers, tons of fun!
Awesome comp!! The staff was extremely friendly and talented! Loved the entertainment provided by Silky and Mr. Kris as well! Judging was very fair and spot-on, and the studios that attended the first St. Louis show were all top notch! Can\'t wait to return in 2014! Edge will certainly become the BEST!
Loved it! Very professional staff and enjoyed every min we were there. Hoping we can get to attend the Nationals. Thank you for being honest with the critiques and putting on a fine comp. Looking forward to next year!
Great organization. Professional and fun.
Our company has performed at this event twice now in Orlando. We love everything about it. Not only do they keep our dancers entertained they keep the families in the audience entertained. If we have numbers back to back they kindly switch it around so our dancers can get ready. By far this is my favorite Competition that we have gone to in 4 years. This is one that we will attend each year! Keep up the GREAT work!
Very positive environment for our dancers. A little hectic with the scheduling. We had dancers in multiple dances that were originally scheduled one after the other, some 4 in a row. But the staff was helpful in reorganizing us. Somehow they still ran on schedule which is always appreciated. The awards were announced rather quickly which made it difficult to follow at times. Overall, a fun time was had by all. Great comp!
This is the competition to watch out for. Edge is an industry leader in the making. A first rate professional competition, only in its second year and building an impeccable reputation of excellence. From the owners to the staff and to the judges.....this competition is a must experience for your studio!! In the fall, they have amazing Dance Intensives, taught by working choreographers. You will not be disappointed!!!
Great competition! Well run, great critiques, fun MC and staff. They offer conventions in the fall that are well worth the $$. Highly recommend the competition.
