We’ve been attending Work It dance competitions for a few years now, as well as their nationals last summer. My studio just competed for the first time of the season this weekend with them as well. I always love to start off my season for my dancers with this Competition for so many reasons. They promote such positivity and feedback for each Dancer, they honestly get more than what they pay for whenever we attend any of their events. When I say that I mean they get actual productive feedback from the judges, the critiques are in depth and accurate. Work It Competition judges each hand out three individual judges awards with meaningful commentary announced at awards in front of all the studios— where the judges give special messages to each student that receives them, they do so many different awards for studio owners, such as acknowledging choreographers and stand out pieces. They really go above and beyond to make sure that dance competition pieces that the students, choreographers, as well as the studio owners that put their time love and energy into, are recognized properly. I have never had a negative experience from start to finish with this competition ever. They are always on time, if not early, and try to accommodate any issues that come up along the way if something catastrophic happens such as a two dance quick change they don’t press or stress the kids if they aren’t ready, they wait and let the kids go when they finally are and that in and of itself was a joy to see this past weekend as several of my students haven’t adjusted yet to regular competition scheduling this was our first one it was so helpful to not feel rushed or forced to go on stage unprepared. I can only see it growing and becoming more in demand for the future because they genuinely try the hardest for all the right reasons any of us do this which is always for the kids. They really understand constructive criticism vs. harmful in the critiques and for that reason alone I would go to them. I honestly don’t think you could go wrong putting this competition on your schedule if you haven’t— you need to because they sell out fast for all the reasons and more I listed above! Thank you Work It for being such a example of how I wish more competitions ran.

We just attended WIDC and it was absolutely fantastic. The vibe and energy is so wonderful and really promotes sportsmanship and fun. The awards were great and the competition ran exactly on time which was a plus. We will definitely be returning next year!!!
The judging at this comp is extremely flawed. They only care about entertainment and not technique. None of it makes any sense especially when a good dance doesn’t make it into their “battle” but a less advanced one that was a hot mess does. Both of these dances were my own choreography so it’s no hate to anyone. All this comp does is try to make everyone happy. 90 percent of the dancers get their highest award: work it platinum. While 10 percent get the second highest: high platinum. No one gets anything lower than that no matter how bad they are. All that does is keep the good studios away and it keeps the bad ones coming. This is supposed to be a competition. Someone amazing should not be getting the same award as someone just ok. Also, they waste so much time doing a stupid little dance at every single awards and they’re always running behind. We will not be back.
Update: Went to this competition in East Windsor, CT. It was by far the best competition I've been to. Staff was friendly, judging was fair, and titles were separated by dance and gymnastics. The director was so nice and danced with the kids at awards! Such a positive atmosphere! I wish all competition were as fun as this one. Can't wait to go back next year.
Fabulous competition! Runs very smooth. Awards are fun, quick, and exciting. The owner of the competition is probably the nicest person you will ever talk toof and meet. Anytime I had a question she would responded very professionally within the hour. Extremely polite staff. Their motto is all about positive vibes and what I love is they have an adult division and the adults actually get recognized if they win overalls or special awards, which a lot of other comps dont do. They also do a lunch for studio owners and teachers which no other competition ever does! Such an awesome competition with nothing but uplifting and awesome vibes. Definitely going again!
Received info for this competition in the mail! Seems like a very positive dance competition, especially for smaller dance studios. We are going to try it this year!
