We skipped last year due to scheduling but can't wait to go back this year! EXCELLENT staff and customer service

Has been one of our faves for years. New team is great and we will keep going back. very professional and fun
I love the organization of this competition. The event ran smoothly despite even having some technical difficulties throughout. For the overall awards, I would suggest that each dancer be able to announce their name and studio, not only the 1st place winner. The judges critiques were very informative!! However, my dancers could hear the judges talking loudly during their live performance. This was very distracting. Thank you for another fun event!

Dancers Inc was a great edition to my competition season! This was my first time going to a Dancers Inc competition, and certainly won't be my last. The venue was a high school, but it had a very nice theater with dressing rooms close by. The competition was very understanding about changing the order of routines. A more personal experience I had was that a small group I had was a dancer down, making it a trio. However, Dancers Inc was very understanding, and allowed my group to perform under our original small group category. The only thing I would say would be something that needed to change, would be that it was running behind schedule which caused my 11:30pm awards to START at 11:50pm. I would say that the judging is fair, except for maybe a little bit of favoritism toward one studio in particular. The awards were faster compared to other competitions, especially because there were two people announcing adjudications. Another personal experience that I really enjoyed, was the backstage crew. I had just come from a quick change, and the was a guy talking to my group dance, and he calmed us down and prepared us to perform, and when we went onstage, he was cheering very loudly for us. Overall, I really enjoyed Dancers Inc., and can't wait to go back!
Thank you so very much for these kind words... Mr. Dan
My daughter has been dancing for 8 years now and from the beginning Dancers Inc was always my favorite competition. They make everything run so smooth for everyone involved. It’s the only competition that we can’t wait to go to every year! Mr. Dan and the entire staff make you feel like family. We love you Mr. Dan and staff! ❤️
Professional, Commited, Passionate, Fun. These are just a few words that come to mind when it comes to Mr. Dan and the Dancers Inc staff. Their attention to the kids is simply amazing. We always look forward to seeing them.
Aw Shucks... You are makin' me blush!!! <3 db
Last year I was awarded Junior Miss Dancer’s Inc, and it’s been such an amazing experience. Dancers Inc has taught me so much about good work ethic, and what it really takes to become a professional dancer. They have given me so many great opportunities, like performing for Dance the universe at Universal, and performing for the DRA benefit in New York. I highly recommend including Dancer’s Inc in your studio’s competition season!!
Oh, Alyssa... I adore you so much. You are an incredible young lady. I can't wait to see what you do with a career in dance... xxo Mr. Dan
Dancers Inc, is a well run, organized event. The staff is great and very entertaining. We have been attending their comps for 8 years now. My daughter always looks forward to this competition the most. Also, Mr. Dan always has the best shoes!!
OMG... It's time for me to get back to work traveling!!! I just got 3 NEW PAIRS OF BOOTS !!! I can't wait to wear them! <3 <3 <3
We love attending Dancers Inc! It is very organized and well run. It is always fun and feels so personal! Mr. Dan and staff are welcoming and helpful and kind to the parents and dancers. You can tell how much Mr. Dan is invested in each and every dancer at all levels of competition. The judging is always fair and the awards ceremonies are fun! We also love attending their conventions as well for the excellent classes and instruction. We look forward to Dancers Inc each year as the highlight of our season.
We love attending DI. This is only our second year in competitive dance but having to been to other competitions I have realized they are the best of the best. Mr. Dan and his staff are friendly and welcoming to all dancers. The judging is fair and includes positive feedback. The competion always run smoothly and on time or even a bit early and they sell the best merchandise.
Dancers Inc has something for everyone! From novice to advanced to Mr. Dan's Special Stars, this competition embraces everyone. The judges are fair, providing positive feedback for routines. We've been attending Dancers Inc. competitions for five years now; great venues, upbeat and helpful personnel, and so much caring for the studio directors, parents and most importantly the dancers. You'll see Mr. Dan back stage cheering performers on and giving kudos to all. Great competition. Highly recommend!
Dancers Inc. is such a fun and welcoming competition that we look forward to every year. Mr. Dan, the staff, and the titelist backstage are always such a kind presence to all dancers from the minis to the teens. A well run and friendly competition to attend.
We love Dancers Inc.! They keep things moving, the staff are super upbeat and nice, and it's a lot of fun for the kids. There's totally a friendly vibe, which I think helps even newer dancers feel super comfortable on and off stage. This was my dancer's first time attending a Dancers Inc. event and now we can't wait for the next one!
Love to hear this... Thank you so much for sharing! Dan and crew... xxo
Absolute favorite competition! My studio has been going for about 4 years and we have always had a good experience. The faculty and staff is so friendly and make an effort to make a personal connection with the dancers. The Emcees are fantastic! The judging is fair and consistent. And the atmosphere is so positive and upbeat. Also we finished every si glen day at least an hour EARLY! My only suggestion is possibly medals or paper certificates for runners up for overalls! As well as more information about the National event and opening number on the website! (Special thank you to Martina and Kyle in Concord, who jumped up and down for our win as much as we did! We love you guys!)
They care about the dancers. Seems like a silly comment but the feeling you get from Mr Dan and Co. is, "I care about you". Not all comps are like this! Very well run and great staff!
These words are so very kind. Thanks for posting,,,, Sometimes in the midst of a busy season you need to see this more than you will ever know....xxo Mr. Dan
Dancers Inc. definitely seems to have the most fair and impartial judges while still being able to critique children. I enjoyed this competition. Downside, we ran way ahead of schedule! YES this is so much better than being behind schedule I agree but how about we just try to stay on schedule? During our comp we were an hour ahead of schedule this could have been an easy fix by just throwing a few breaks in between a few dances to help get the comp back on schedule. I know the schedule is just an estimate and you never know, you might need to go earlier or later than originally scheduled but being an hr ahead of schedule is rough especially with people who are traveling to the comp. But overall a really good experience at Dancers Inc.
Thanks so much for your kind words. I wish there was a magic button that could make all the dances 2:45 and that way we could always run ontime. Hope your dance season is amazing! Mr. dan and the DI crew...
As a veteran competition dancer of more than 13 years, I have performed at various competitions. Through my experiences, I have found that Dancers Inc. has been, hands down, the best. I find the judging to be extremely fair, the staff to be curtious, and to be constantly surrounded in a welcoming atmosphere. "Mr.Dan" Barris, has truly created a unique environment in this cookie cutter competition world. I highly endorse The Dancers Inc. experience. I am certain that you will not be disappointed.
We work so hard to keep things moving! thanks for the vote of confidence, Alexa. We love what we do because dancers like you make our job easy. :) XXO Dan and the crew
Dancer's Inc is such a wonderful competition! The staff is comprised of the nicest, funniest, and most professional people in the area. Im so thankful to have the opportunity to compete at this competition and work with these beautiful people. Dancer's Inc is the perfect competition for any studio, I will assure you that you will have a blast! I highly recommend attending a DI competition this season, you will not regret it!
Martina.... Thank you for these kind words. You continue to amaze me! your growth and potential are limitless...I can't wait to see where life takes you... wherever that is, know that you will always have a very special place in my heart.....xxo db n your DI fam.
My studio was very excited to attend this competition, however 2 weeks to the day before the event, we received an email telling us the competition was cancelled. We were horrified that they would cancel a competition so close to the date without giving us a warning this was a possibility. We had to scramble to find another competition who could accommodate us the same weekend, but it was at a cost to us because we had to pay late entry fee prices. Dancers Inc offered us %25 off next years entry fees. That does not seem nearly enough to get us to trust them again, should be more like %75 off.
Hi, So sorry to hear of your misfortune after we cancelled. What a bummer. Many Competitions have to cancel for a variety of reasons. We cancelled because we lost the venue to a school function that was not on the Master list with the BOE. We found out about it the day we called our clients that were regfstered for the show. If attempting to accommodate our clients by offering them other competitions in their are wasn't enough, we did offer 25% off, for the following season, you are correct. That keeps my Karma clean and doesn't feel nearly as vicious as the last line of your post. If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to reach me in my office... Yours in Dance, Dan Barris Executive Director Dancers Inc. dan@dancers-inc.com 732-685-8182
First time attending this competition and it was such a disappointment. The venue was awful. The stage smaller than the dance room at the studio. The judges spoke negatively about the students (even about the 6 year olds) in the critiques. Nothing positive or helpful from any judge.
So sorry to hear this. when our venue was switched we had no choice. I would love to speak with you about the judging. If you have a moment, call the office. There is truly a difference between negative and constructive, and I would love to get you critiques and listen to them to understand what you are talking about. please pm me and i will have the video company get right on that. Thanks, Dan
The absolute best competition out there either it be your first or your 30th competition this is one to do. Consistent...you always know what to expect when at dancers inc..you lnow to show up 2 hours before your start time because they almost always are early of not on time...you know the director and staff will always be welcoming, warm , and helpful. The awards are not long and boring...everyone gets excited and has fun . There are so many great things about this competition...lierally one of the best by far and look forward to many more years.
Thank you... we try very hard, as all competitions do... It's not easy, and your acknowledgement of our hard work is graciously appreciated. Dan and the crew Yours in Dance, Dan Barris Executive Director Dancers Inc. dan@dancers-inc.com 732-685-8182
You are missing out on a whole lot of fun, as well as an excellent learning experience, if you do not attend Di. It is our favorite competition. Di offers a positive learning experience to the dancers, offering fair and objective critiques, as well as an abundance of positive reinforcement to allow the dancer to feel great about their accomplishments. Dancers Inc. provides a fun family atmosphere. Their staff is always smiling and friendly, engaging with the dancers and families with a casual yet professional interaction. Regarding awards, all dancers have the opportunity to be recognized for outstanding accomplishments, with fair age and experience level categories, as well as judge's awards and the title program. Dancers Inc. is responsive to phone calls and emails, with a quick response for any questions or concerns. I would highly recommend offering Di as an experience for your dancers!
;) Thanks, Dan and the drew
Worcester 4/7-4/9 Where to begin? Venue: Changed on website literally a few days before comp without notifying anyone. This required previously made hotel arrangements to be changed at a premium so as not to be 30 minutes away. South High Community School in Worcester, MA was a JOKE! Tiny low stage, tiny auditorium. Could not see feet as heads cut off bottom of stage. Bathrooms DISGUSTING! NO PARKING and no one directing people where to park due to over flow. The only positive thing was that the dressing area was decent. Judging: Was contemporary biased. Never knew who they where - the program did not even list the judges. One judge did not even watch a couple solos. He was going through papers, talking to the staff next to him. Never even put his headphones on or picked up his mircophone. Do your JOB! Staff: First, program a disgrace! Copied papers stapled together for $5. No list of judges or studios. What a joke. Broke down apparel tables 5 hours before competition was over. Really? The venue was that bad! Awards: Crazy. Redid awards from previous night due to complications with scoring. Made no sense since most of the groups did not compete that day and where not there. Should have handled that internally and with the studios effected instead of wasting more time on the next day. My daughter placed with a pointe piece because it was pointe. Not because it deserved it. Her lyrical received significantly higher points at 4 other competitions including 2 times at YAGP but the okay pointe piece placed. Made no sense and logically makes one question the judges credentials. Communication: See above, especially venue. Initially was told the stage was 20' x 25' 5 days before comp then was told 40' x 25'. This was the worst experience I have ever had.
We truly realize what a struggle that was, and can't wait to come back to Worcester next season to give everyone that loves us exactly what they deserve... we have all our ducks in a row, and everyone that knows us, knows that we did the best we could under the circumstances. PS... Your studio must be big... the stage was adequate for most of the performers, but the production # that had 74 dancers was amazing. the teacher told me it was the best she had seen it all season... lol..Enjoy summer! Dan and the crew. Dan and the crew Yours in Dance, Dan Barris Executive Director Dancers Inc. dan@dancers-inc.com 732-685-8182
We attended the "Sparta" (actually West Orange) regionals last month. The venue was way too small, but we were repeated reassured that next year's venue was already booked and way bigger. The people running the event were super nice, and the kids all had such a fun time competing. The judges' scoring was strange at times, but I loved that they only gave out Elite to the dances that really deserved it. The event ran close to on time. Overall, a very pleasant experience...would be happy to do it again
We are at the High School next year... hope to see you there... 1,200 seats and the stage is huge... enjoy summer! Dan and the crew Dan and the crew Yours in Dance, Dan Barris Executive Director Dancers Inc. dan@dancers-inc.com 732-685-8182
This past weekend in Syracuse was one of the worst venues with no stage the kids danced on the floor with the judges very close and lights so close they were being blinded. Some groups too big for the "stage", and where dancers were forced to dance off stage sometimes because of it. Only way to see your child dance was to watch a screen on the side. Pictures and videos were bad. Judging was all over the place, seemed biased to convention attendees. Convention should be after competition is over, or don't use convention teachers for judges. All in all a bad experience. You had over 500 dance entries, you should be able to afford a stage. Hoping not to go back.
Not impressed at all! No stage! The dancers danced on the floor with judges about 2 feet from them. You couldn't even see your hold dance because there was a 3 foot curtain up and again THEY DANCED ON THE FLOOR!!! Also there were girls dancing that performed in advanced division at other competitions and were intermediate at this competition. I know that part was not the comps fault. I truly hope our studio owner doesn't ask us to go back to this competition. I also felt that the judging was all over the place. If you are going to have the judges so close to the audience you may want to make sure they actually watch the dancers. I witnessed the judges not looking at the dancers at all. Some holding their hands over their microphones and talking to each other. Overall not the best comp we have been to and when I am spending the kind of money we do to watch our children dance I would expect at least a pleasent environment for them to dance in.
Great comp for all dancers!
thanks for that! We work hard to make that happen.
Best best best Nationals! So much fun and inspiring.
Thanks so much! Glad you had fun! See you all soon, Dan and the Crew
Good competition & great experience. This was my first experience with this competition and we were very satisfied. Judges were fair and diverse in their opinions. Definitely would recommend.
Thanks so much for your kind words. We try real hard to do it all just right..... sometimes all of the pieces just fit together...Have a grerat season... Dan and the Crew
Fun competition, but very dark venue. I also did not like how you got rubber band braclets considering it was an expensive comp, and no one wants a rubber band.
You should see the new pins.... gorgeous. sorry to disappoint with the bracelets... Hope to see you again!
Overall good comp. Judges definitely preferred ballet over jazz. Event ran on time, organized. Awards were a little lackluster, not a fan of the rubber bracelets.
You should see the new pins! GORGEOUS!!! We always run on time... well at least 95% of the time.... :) Thanks for being with us!
Staff was great! It was a large event but we never felt like just another number. We will def go back!
Wow.... that\'s exactly what i hoped to see when I started this company 13 years ago! You just made me tear up a little... Thanks a BUNCH... Dan and the Crew
I hope we never attend this competition again. Very nice staff but so difficult when your child\'s team works so hard at technique, and the routines that placed and won the highest adjudication (while definitely having entertainment value) did NOT have technique. So disappointing. Kids that didn\'t point their toes placed in overalls and a boys team (while very cute) had zero technique and was given the highest adjudication. Crazy scoring. Our teams work too hard technically to run behind in judging due to \"cuteness\". Not a top notch competition for the serious dancers.
So sorry to hear this. I remember your event in the Raleigh area. The teams were great. They all did well. Sorry you didn\'t have a more positive experience. Good luck in the future, and keep up in those technique classes, ok...
Dancers Inc. is a competition with a family feel where each dancers is truly appreciated as an artist. There are several things I love about Dancers Inc. I love how the judges make dancers work for the highest medal and do not just give them away, I believe the critiques received are very helpful and are very in depth to actually be useful in cleaning a piece. Another thing I love is how quickly and efficiently the awards ceremonies go, as well as the fact that the competition always runs on time or ahead! The title program at Dancers Inc. also seems to be SUPER COOL! I am definitely going to be back, and would recomend this competition to anyone!
Thanks so much!
Did not enjoy this competition, you could not even see the judges faces and people were cheating and putting advanced dancers in beginner!
Did you complain to the event manager about the students being in the wrong categories? Teachers and Studio Owners put them in those categories, not the competition...Good luck in your dance career...
We attended the Raleigh regional this year, and it was an overall decent experience! Pros: 1- Great staff, everyone was so nice and helpful. I\'m not sure what the \"favoritism\" comments were based on but we were a small studio, first timers, and the Director and other essential staff members came to me and introduced themselves. 2- I agreed with the judges assessment of my dances (except one, see cons)...I thought it was tough but fair across the board. 3- They ran early/on time. 4- I thought the awards ceremony was fun, and lots of recognition! Cons 1- I don\'t agree with studio codes being announced before a dance comes on stage. Judges are only human; I think knowing who is onstage can trigger a biased score... This is the first comp I\'ve been to that does this. 2- No concessions...in the middle of nowhere, a hot auditorium, and tired/hungry dancers and viewers means we need a concessions stand! 3- Although MOST of the judging was fair, I did see a group of boys (though adorable) receive the highest adjudication for a routine that was not well executed. I\'m all for encouraging boys to dance (that\'s why special awards are so great since they aren\'t based on scores) but giving them an elite gold just because they\'re boys seems unfair to dancers who really earned that adjudication. Especially because elite golds were given out sparingly (which I appreciated). I think it cheats the boys out of getting a truly realistic assessment of their abilities. Just My professional Opinion Overall, I would give Dancer\'s Inc. another try! EDITED: Received judges comments and they were great! Agree with all they said, I thought they were very informative and helpful.
Thank you so very much for your insightful critique. I love when people offer valuable information like this. We will be back in 2017! hope to see you there, and we will chat with the school regarding the concessions.... Dan and the Crew...
Horrible Competition! They only cared about butt shaking and hip hop, no lyrical or ballet was able to place high. Very biased. Sure to never go back!
so sorry you feel that way. If you would like to call me in the office to chat about your experience, I\'d love that. Keep working on your technique, and let the judges opinions fuel you to do better, and take more classes, ok.... Best of luck.. If you want to call, the office number is 732-685-8182... Dan
Friendly and helpful staff. Judging is fair and critiques very helpful. Dan is always supportive to the kids... And an amazing resource for teachers. I have been going to this competition since it first started and every year it continues to get better.
WOW... Thanks for the support! I am a lucky guy to be able to do this, and i never take that for granted... Your words touched my heart....xxo db
I did not appreciate having to view the program on my phone. Printed programs are great to have at the competition and afterwards as well. Please consider bringing them back. Also, the adjudication medal should at least say the award given. We had to write in sharpie on the back what she received. A pin saying \"high gold\" would have been much more appreciated than the medal and the cheap rubber bracelet. Although I liked that the awards ceremony did not drag on, it felt very rushed and did not give the dancers the proper credit for the hard work they did on stage.
Thanks for your input.... We totally agree with the programs. UGH!!!! Thanks for your input!
This was our second year at Dancers Inc. While we enjoyed the competition overall, there were some things that could be improved upon. The judging, while hard, seemed fair across the board. We didn\'t see any favoritism--toward any specific studio or dance style. Which is refreshing. All the studios were phenomenal and everything was very positive. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The awards were a little long, but they were fun for the dancers with the little gifts they tossed around. The main issue was the venue. It was SAT weekend and since the venue was a high school, there was no entrance until after 2 pm on Saturday. This wreaked havoc with the schedule. Friday night until midnight, Saturday night until nearly midnight, and then Sunday morning we started at 7:30 a.m. The school, while beautiful, was too small for the amount of dancers, parents, teachers and audience. Parking was insanity. Since there was limited space, people were parking on the street, which was in a residential neighborhood. At one point, police were ticketing cars. The dressing room was also insanity. There wasn\'t enough room for all the dancers. At least once, male custodians came into the girls\' dressing room, even after being told girls were changing. The stairs were slippery and I know of at least two dancers who fell down the stairs because they were rushing to change in tap shoes. The other disappointment was the actual awards. Solos/duets/trios got medals, but unless you placed in the top whatever, dancers in groups only received a rubber bracelet. The group dancers were bummed; at least last year they got ribbons we could puttheir name/dance name/score on and they could hang them up or display them. I\'m sure we\'ll return to Dancers Inc. as it was a good competition with some really fantastic studios, but I hope they reconsider this venue for next year and consider going back to ribbons or pins for the dancers.
I love this competition! The staff is very open with all of the my choreographers and will have full blown conversations with them to just make them feel welcome. I am surprised to see the other comments about not letting the participants of another competition site know there was no competition. I have found nothing but love for this competition and I will be very sad to graduate and not be able to attend as a dancer anymore. I will definitely still go to the competitions to support my team and to see all of the Dancers Inc staff again.
I am also totally disappointed with this competition. I did not even receive notice that the competition/convention was being canceled. I had to call and find out!! This is no way to run a business.
I would give negative stars if I could. Our competition team has been preparing to attend this competition and dance convention since September 2015. We were all looking forward to it. Unfortunately today we were informed that the convention and competition had been cancelled due to Dancers Inc. not making enough money on competition entries and convention fees even though there were other schools registered!!! Unbelievable!! Now we have to scramble to reschedule our plans with regards to rehearsals and a new competition and convention. We should have been notified weeks ago of any potential problems with this event so that we could be better prepared.
Nice competition- usually on time. I\'m a bit disillusioned with this competition as we had a dancer get sick minutes before entering the stage and was unable to perform in the group dance. First we delayed our performance number, hoping the dancer could revive himself after a short rest and meds allowed to take affect. However, symptoms didnt improve so the rest of the 6-8 year olds went onstage without one of their dancers. Unfortunately points were deducted because not all dancers were on stage and they did not perform on time. Things happen- such allowances should be made... Even though they received a platinum award for their performance, they were not eligible to place in the overalls due to the deductions that were circumstantial.
Hello, So sorry to hear that you were a bit disillusioned. Just want to clear up that we have never taken off points for an ill dancer in the history of Dancers Inc.We encourage dancers to think on their feet, and be adaptive. If anything, many of our judges commend them when they see that. They are also informed prior to the number to not take points off for obvious spacing issues regarding an absent/ sick dancer. What happened was that the group was ineligible for overalls because they had already adjudicated and given the awards and overalls for their division. We don\'t offer Platinum at our events so I am wondering if you have the correct competition.... Anyway, I want to say thanks for giving your review, and as always.... Keep striving to work and teach your children the values of good sportsmanship...as you obviously have by the tone...For that, I am truly thankful to you. You are always welcome to call the office if you need clarification on anything at all... Yours in Dance, Dan
I cannot say enough about this organization and the staff who run it.
Aw shucks!!!! We work very hard to make our events top notch. Thanks for the support... Dan and the crew..
Very fun weekend!our school had a blast!!
;} Thanks a bunch! Dan and the crew
We were not allowed into the dressing room until a few minutes before my daughter was scheduled to dance (she was one of the first of the day). Other than that, Dancers Inc. is a very professionally run competition and the awards were fun and the judging very fair.
Thanks for your kind words about our events.... Just want to let you know that we open the doors a standard 1/2 hour before the event stars. If the first 5 dancers have 30 minutes to prepare and get back stage, we have always found that to be a perfect amount of time to get the day started... Hope my explanation helped a bit... And We hope to see you again in the future... Yours in Dance, Dan
Great competition, staff was excellent!!
A wonderful competition. Great staff! friendly and fun. Looking forward to this year. I highly recommend this competition.
Top notch organization. I attended the nationals at the Claridge in Atlantic City with my niece, she\'s the dancer not me, and we couldn\'t have had a better time or felt more welcomed. Dan Barris\'s relationship with the kids, studios, and families made this trip beyond what we expected. Being in a wheel chair can sometimes be difficult getting into places, Dan really went above and beyond, and made sure we were set. I would certainly recommend Dancer\'s INC to anyone!
I KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!!!!! LOL So nice to see this. My response is long overdue, but just to let you know, I would jump through hoops and twirl fire batons for you and your family... the studio was wonderful, the kids were wonderful, and all of the parents were so much fun! We need to discuss that Cruise!!!! lol... Happy New Year! Dan
Loved it! Will definitely go again!
Thanks so much. I am glad that we made your day a good one. We work hard to make that happen, and a kind word is always welcome. ;} Dan and the crew
Very kind and warm environment for our dancers. And the talent is always amazing!
Thanks for yoyr kind words... We try our best! Dan and the crew... ;}
Always enjoyed DI!! Feel like judges are fair and will put an awesome tap in the top or a jazz. It\'s not just contemporary winning first all the time. Judges are well experienced. Everyone is friendly. Titlist program is best going. Gives dancers best experience ever! Hoping our new studio will try DI!!
WOW.... You truly left me speechless. Thanks for the amazing words of support. Yours in Dance, Dan and the crew
Great weekend of dance! Friendly faces, Professional, overall great job! Can\'t wait for Nationals in AC
Dancers Inc was interesting. The only things I didn\'t like was they already called out the next act before the one before it was even off stage, which made a lot of dancers insecure and made us feel like they didn\'t like us. The judges also seemed more consumed in their conversation over critiques (there was only one critique video they all had to share) I was watching my musical theater group critiques and you couldn\'t even hear the music all you could hear was the judges blabbing about childhood memories.
All of the staff members were very friendly. This was a fantastic experience for my daughter. The workshop was \"An amazing experience!\" My daughter will be returning next year
always a great experience :)
As always , Dancers Inc continues to provide dancers of ALL levels with positive experiences onstage, helpful and honest critiques and a chance to grow . This competition continues to evolve within the industry itself and is also forward moving in the connections and opportunities it creates for the students participating. Conventions are well planned and thoughtful re: what dancers need . All of the staff are experienced in studio life and the performing arts and info is available from everything from college to Broadway and beyond -the Title program is more than a crown - it\'s a real life learning experience for young artists ! Take some time and learn about DI - I think it\'s worthwhile for Studios , parents and dancers !
As always, Dancers Inc. provided a wonderful weekend for my dancers. Leading up to the competition, the office staff answered all of my questions about my registration. At the event, the show ran on time, the scoring was appropriate and fair, and the staff is welcoming and friendly. Highly reccommend!
We Love DI!!! It is always a positive atmosphere for our entire studio!!! Great directors, staff and crew!!! Highly recommend!!!
BRING BACK Roy Lightner. He was the best teacher at the event last year and the only reason we returned this year. Major loss that he no longer is part of Dancers Inc. Also, no Keith at the event either?? What is happening, we use to love DI???
Thanks for your review. So sorry to hear that Roy is the only reason you attended DI...lol... He is now a full professor at a great school. He is doing really well. Saw him this summer on a wedding cruise. People grow, and schedules change, as does availability... Keith is now married and a theater professor as well. We get them when we can, and not all of the same Directors are available on the same weekends every year. I am sure the crew that you had was amazing though... Chin up, and Happy 2016! Yours in Dance, Dan and the crew.
Good competition! Very friendly staff! The issue was they ran late and some of the judging wasn\'t as great as I would like it to be.
FRIENDLY STAFF
I cannot give this competition enough praise! I have attended it for 5 years in a row, and have had nothing but amazing experiences. Unfortunately due to a change in DI\'s scheduling this year for the event closest to me I won\'t be able to attend. But Dancers Inc will always be my favorite competition. The staff ( some personal favorites are; Dan, Randy, Eric, and Roy) have always been nothing but kind and extremely accommodating and helpful. DI is the best of the best. Extremely fair scoring, innovative conventions, and top notch judges and master teachers. Thank you for 5 years of fun in Maine!
I don\'t know how this competition gets away with scheduling a competition over an entire weekend, with no consideration for the dancers. First of all, they changed the venue at the last minute, then they scheduled the dancers to dance until 11:15 at night. Even on a Sunday night, when children and parents have to get to school/work the next day. There should be a limit of entries, in order to accommodate a more condusive schedule to their clients. We are paying them to compete, we are not getting paid to be there. They should be catering to those putting the bread in their mouths. Did they ever consider that some will be traveling over an hour to reach the competition? Then arriving home at 1:00 a.m. on a school night? Not only that, but our children will be taking mandatory state testing that day. This is an outrageous schedule for a Sunday night. I have never really cared for this competition - and this has put the nail in the coffin.
The judges only watched 15 seconds of dance before scoring.( that\'s what I am guessing because only one judge kept watching other two looked down and my daughter was very upset because she likes to make eye contact and only got the top of their heads.) Dancers obviously on a higher level performing at lower category. The staff is great though. very informative and kind.
Hi, I just wanted to say thanks for the compliments, and to address the criticism. ...When the judges are talking they are watching the computer monitors in front of them. We use a very advanced scoring system so I just want to assure you that the judges did see your daughter perform. Again, thanks for your great comments about the cast and crew...Dan
DI is the best! We\'re looking forward to using the DanceComp Genie app this weekend in Voohees!
We love Dancers Inc for the professional and friendly staff. It\'s always a positive experience to be a part of this competition and convention.
The judging is great every year and the staff is unbelievably friendly:) DI is a great competition for your dancers.
6 stars! Grab your kids and sprint, run, skip to DI! They are absolutely the best around!
Thanks so much! Can\'t wait for the new season to start. Dan
Excited to get the season going with DI:) It is the best! Very passionate and personal. Fun and fair! Our kids always leave feeling inspired and that they are better dancers. Thanks Mr Dan!
This was so nice to wake up to this morning... ;) Thanks for the kind words. I love my job! Dan
We had a very positive experience with them last year. Could not return this year because of schedule conflicts but we will go back!
Can\'t wait to see you again. Dan
LOVE LOVE LOVE DI nation!!! The staff is absolutely wonderful! I\'ve been going since the first year they came out in the competition circuit, which was 10 whole years ago! If you are looking for a family friendly, professionally ran competition with freakishly AMAZING convention classes, Dancer\'s Inc is the place to be.
Dancers Inc. is most professional ran, and progressively challenging. I can\'t say how much I truly enjoy being a fan of Dancers Inc, and Mr. Dan.
We have had the great fortune of attending this competition, over the past 10 years, for regionals, as well as nationals, once in Hershey and we just returned from the NE Nationals. I LOVE this competition!!!!! It runs SO very smoothly; the judges critiques are always beneficial; the staff is AMAZING, starting from Mr. Dan and running all the way down the line. My daughter, for the very first time, competed in the Titlist Program... she stated it best when captioning the pictures she uploaded from the experience: \"best time of my life\"... I LOVE Dancers Inc.!!
We strive to make our events a positive experience for everyone. Your evaluation means the world to us. Xo db
By far, the best competition I have had the pleasure of attending with my daughter and her dance school! The staff is so very considerate, from the top, Mr. Dan, all the way across the board.. critiques are ALWAYS helpful. I LOVE Dancer\'s Inc.!!!!
:) Thanks!!!
We LOVE Dancers Inc! Such a friendly, fun staff, VERY fair judging, excellent workshops and an overall wonderful environment. \"Mr\" Dan goes out of his way to make EVERYONE feel welcome and comfortable. The staff is very approachable and they all really try to remember the dancers, as well as the teachers\' by name, but always by face. I highly recommend!
Thanks for the kind words...db
Great staff. Runs smoothly. Good incentives if you go to UDMA. Classes are usually canceled due to low attendance.
Thanks for the review. I see that you gave us 2 stars. Can you elaborate on what needs improvement? Have classes been canceled in your area more than once? We unfortunately did cancel once last year....it was Super bowl Sunday...:(
we loved Dancers Inc. the girls all had a great time!
As always my dancers very much enjoyed Dancers Inc. They appreciate the critiques they get and find them helpful and applicable. They really enjoy the convention classes with the judges and this year was no different. As we do this competition year after year I have no complaint with the competition itself but would like to see this (and all competitions really) arrange the age levels so that dancers who have graduated high school are in a separate age level and not competing against 16 and 17 year olds still in high school. Overall my dancers love DI!
I understand, but I personally graduated high school at 19. I missed the cut off by 2 days so my parents opted to put me in kindergarten the following year. We try really hard to make the age divisions work at DI....Remember too that we also have the 3 different levels. Thanks for your kind words...Dan
I can\'t comment on the competition itself, but the way the owner responded on here is rather disturbing.
I love Dancers Inc. And for those who say that judges don\'t pay attention to certain studios, I am absolutely positive that they do not play favorites. I come from a studio that has been very close to the DI staff and directors for many years and our scores are not a reflection of our relationship with the competition. And besides, the judging staff is differently nearly every competition. I don\'t think I\'ve competed for the same judging panel twice. I find the adjudications extremely accurate and the overall experience at DI is a 10 out of 10. Thank you, Mr. Dan and the DI staff for making my time with DI the best.
♡
I have to say I\'m very surprised there were ANY negative comments on Dancers Inc\'s page. Dancers Inc is unlike any other competition I\'ve been to. You can really tell that the staff tries to form a relationship and Mr. Dan is like a teddy bear! You can tell he\'s always trying to make everyone\'s day as great as it can be. Also, they really accommodate the boys well, giving them a decently sized dressing room unlike the closests I\'ve seen some competitions give to the boys. On the topic of boys, the judging is very fair. I recently attended a dance competition with scoring that was truly ridiculous! I saw a perfect Advanced solo performed by a beautiful girl and then right after came a sloppy, awkward \"hip hop\" piece performed by a boy. Can you guess who won? THE BOY! But at Dancers Inc judging is very fair. My friends dad always tries to guess who\'s going to do well and his scoring is usual on point! He \"judged\" at all our competitions and said DI was the most fair of all of them. Dancers Inc doesn\'t give awards because of gender or studio they give awards based on your score. Now segwaying into the topic of studios... just noting on what people were saying about large studios, there\'s a reason they do so well! Think about it, if I have to choose between a studio that gets silvers and one that gets Elite Awards, I\'m going to choose the one that does better at competition (a reflection of good training) . There\'s a reason these studios are big, it\'s because they\'re good! Thanks, Anonymous Pseudonym
Thank you....
Dancer\'s Inc. is a good and fair competition. My daughter is director of a mid sized studio and both my granddaughters compete. The only unfair thing is (and this is common with most dance comps) is the \"boy factor\". If you are a male you will almost always will big just because you are a male regardless if your female competitors are superior and they usually are. Mr. Dan you are a sweet and friendly man (although a rather corny host) and you should not be so defensive of your compeiition to those you are negative and have complaints, they could always go elsewhere. And why is there 2 results for Tampa and none for the Freehold NJ Area?
Thanks for your advice! Boy or boy do I wish you were the angel on my shoulder last season when I responded to that comment that started all the craziness. I guess you can\'t please everyone, right...Thanks again for your kind words...db
Our studio\'s first ever competition! Our dancers had a blast! The staff was great and helpful! We ran ahead of time the entire weekend. They convention was also a blast with small class sizes and attentive teachers. As a studio owner, the attention we received was outstanding! It helped to give our kids a great first experience and I am positive we will be back for years to come!
So glad that you enjoyed it. I am thrilled that we created a positive first experience for your dancers....See you soon...Dan
I\'m glad there are some studios that had a good experience at Dancer\'s Inc. Unfortunately, we did NOT have that good experience. Most of our kids didn\'t even want to stay for the convention! I, too, found that very often the judges were not paying attention to the dances. They were VERY attentive when certain studios were on stage. After the comp, we look forward to getting the corrections. However, many of the score sheets didn\'t have any comments on them at all!The video was very vague. All in all, the weekend was a major letdown. Have been to many other comps that I\'d recommend over this one.
I own a small dance studio in Northern NJ. Our first year of competition was last year in which I brought six dancers to Dancers Inc in Secaucus and performed one dance...yes one intense contemporary dance. We won 2nd overall. Missed 1st by half a point. I don\'t understand the whole favoritism factor..If they favored the schools that brought more dances, how did we do so well? Take the corrections, better your students..we will be gladly returning again this year with six dances...and I am sure there will be plenty of studios there with tons and tons more dances but I believe in the quality of my students..and as for Mr. Dan..I have to say from the minute I walked in to the facility he greeted me, introduced himself and made me and my little studio feel welcome. As we all know in this business, you cannot please everyone.
♡ Thanks for posting this....db
I have always had positive experiences with Dancers Inc. and recommend this competition to my studio owner friends. My students and parents love Mr. Dan and his staff and look forward to his competitions and conventions. The events run on time, with usable corrections from the judges. These negative reviews are blowing my mind and are over the top ridiculous. I\'ve been involved with the competitive dance world for 25 years and have seen studio codes announced often. This is not some crazy opportunity to show favoritism, simply a way to keep things organized. To say that you could hear conversations between judges is nonsense. It\'s too loud when the kids are dancing to hear the person next to you in most venues, so to suggest that is just not logical. Title winners for DI have always worked the events, it\'s part of being a winner of such a position. They don\'t just slap a crown on the winner and say goodbye. These kids actually get a year long learning experience. If you are complaining that you aren\'t happy with what you brought home, then get back in the studio and work harder. There are many competitions that will just take your money, barely acknowledge you or your dancers unless you have a huge studio, and send everyone home with platinums, super diamond, and mega elite awards so they keep coming back. If that\'s your cup of tea then Dancers Inc is clearly not a good fit for you. I will never be interested in paying all that money for a trophy. I want my students and teachers to be truly judged on what is brought on stage. I want real critiques that I can use to make my dancers stronger and choreography more amazing, regardless of my studio size. I want awards that are realistic and representative of my dancers\' performance. That\'s what my studio family has always gotten from Dancers Inc. Mr. Dan is friendly with EVERYONE. If you saw him talking to dancers or parents from other studios and assumed that they were his favorites, well that\'s on you.
I was also at this competition and what was reported here is correct. I think whoever decides to come to this sight will see where the pettiness is coming from. If you were not there how can you speak to what occurred, I am sure you had a positive experience and that is what your comments should be about. Who disrespected the judges, no one that I saw, quite the opposite. This competition was expensive and the fact that studio codes were announced before each dance, title holders working the competition and also performing are certainly a reason to question the results If you scroll down to last summer you will see similar comments. The most negative and insulting comments come from those \"supporting\" DI, and also have a very familiar tone to them, Just sayin...
As a mother of six ,five which are daughters four of the five have been literally dancing since birth,it saddens me to see adults acting like spoiled children. I have been in the world of dance for 25 years and I have never seen such pettiness as I have been reading in the ratings for Dancers Inc. Not only has Dancers Inc. become a part of our family, the staff and most of all Mr. Dan have always shown extreme professionalism in all they do. My daughters have always been treated and judged fairly. I think some of the remarks that were made were by parents that obviously have told there children that they are perfect in every way and deserve only the best no matter how they perform. This unfortunately is not teaching them anything.Yes, my one daughter has been and is a current Titlist. It has taught her Responsibility, Respect and Regard for herself and others. She danced long hours, took many workshops, competed in dozens of competitions and had the best teachers I know. All of her hard work payed off and with the help and encouragement from all of Dancers Inc. I think these parents have all forgotten the 3 R\'s, \"Responsibility\" as parents to teach you children to \"Respect\" the Judges, and \"Regard\" for themselves and others. If these parents think there children were treated or scored unfairly they are so wrong. No one is perfect and if you think your child is perfect then maybe they should try walking on water. Better yet, maybe they should try dancing on water. I only know of one person that could do that and I wonder what his score would be? Thank you Mr. Dan and all of your Staff for all you do and will continue to do.
The day you wouldn\'t recommend DI because your kid (s) or studio didn\'t win .., well Boo Hoo to U Mr/Mrs.KillJoy!!! And the other individual that made the hilariously ignorant \"vengeful competition Director\" comment..It\'s CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM not a personal attack! Use it as a tool to step ya game up instead?! Listen, I\'m sure you\'re quite chapped about your loss. You feel wronged. ANY clue of the stress he was under?!I am well aware of how hard you need to work to make your mark . I\'ve competed in a wide range of competitions, the last being Powerlifting. I gave my all .. Blood, sweat & many tears... In fact, I\'ve lost competitions randomly and many times to boot It\'s sculpted me.It\'s a Love, Passion & Personal Journey. Gather yourself, regroup & get back at it. That\'s what the truly passionate do. Point being... You didn\'t see me go and burn the damn gym I last competed at down to the ground over my loss. Get ahold of yourself !!! Grow up and realize that what Mr.Dan was doing (after he encouraged ALL reviews) was give FEEDBACK . Nothing more. There is ZERO need for a mature adult to read into something that isn\'t there. Isn\'t there !! PERIOD!!! More importantly, you are kind of showing your kids how to suck at life by responding like a complete Arse. Mr.Dan has YEARS of experience, a ridiculously popular company, a true Passion & heart for the soul of every dancer and NOTHING but the best interest of each and every dancer on the forefront !! He simply gave Feedback. There was a comment made. He read it .. Clearly respects it , absorbed it & responded as he should have . How dare you try to bash the man who is one of the contributing factors/reason to why your kid even LOVES Dance!! The Positive feedback stories were very sweet & painted a clear picture of the company and the man I will continue to network with . In conclusion, if you\'re gonna be a good Pitcher.. You Better be a good Catcher !! NUFF SAID !!! Lucille Balle
Dancers Inc. is like no other dance competition… I am so looking forward to our experience this coming April in Jackson, NJ. Mr. Dan and his staff are truly one of a kind; compassionate, honest, professional, educational and most of all loving. They have contributed to many charities, benefits and have promoted the responsibility of character in all of their dancers and staff. Love you DI
I am a competitive tap teacher who has been in the business over 30 years. I was not at the competition this weekend, but one of the schools I teach for was. I came on this website to see the reviews of the competition, and what is the most shocking is Dan\'s response to the negative critics. There is a way to respond to negativity without bashing the writer (whether they put their name or not.)I am the first to tell my students if you don\'t like what you received, work harder. Unfortunately they will now pull up Dan\'s response to the negative feedback as proof that it was a terrible experience. I remember when Dan was with Starbound and I always enjoyed bringing my students there. I hope this quick note is helpful. Maureen Dicker
I agree with you Maureen. Thank you for taking the time to write down your thoughts. The comments all came from the same studio. There were 22 studios present at that event and the level of talent was exceptional. DI had 21 of the 22 studios present leave happy. I guess my response was a way for me to attempt to defend the honor of my hard working crew. I understand that all schools have different interpretations of what happened on that isolated weekend. I just think that after such a long weekend of competition, for one studio to bash me so blatantly, instigated my rather crass response.I was feeling at that moment rhat she was bashing me and I had a right to defend not only my self, but all comps...Trust....I have also learned from that experience. Yours in Dance, Dan
I have known Mr Dan since before Dancers Inc- when he worked for another competition. His warmth and genuine concern for the well being of young dancers is what brought me to Dancers Inc way back when. I have a very small studio- sometimes only bringing 3 or 4 dances and do not attend nationals, BUT we have never been treated with anything but respect and kindness by Dan and all of his staff. We have scored extremely high( winning 1st overalls & receiving scholarships) and also sometime received Golds. But what our dancers and parents remember most about their experiences at DI is that Mr Dan remembers their names, that he takes the time to take silly pictures with them & their burlesque fans, that he loves riccotta cookies &that when he found out we had a few first time duets he made a point of telling them to just go out and have fun because that is what is important. And yes, there have been a few times that I felt we could have scored higher- also have seen some dances from other studios I thought maybe deserved higher- but it is the nature of the beast- not FAVORITISM. We teach our dancers to do their personal best each time they dance but that the most important thing is that they show their passion for dance. I tell them that judging is subjective- not objective and 2 judges can have the complete opposite opinion about the same dance. This happens at all competitions. The other wonderful thing about DI is that they dont keep us there until ridiculous hrs like many others. My students also love the conventions. Mr Dan, Travis, Coleman- you can\'t please everyone- don\'t fret over the negatives. It is probably best these studio dont come back, because if they have chips on their shoulder towards DI -then they probably treated their follow competitors poorly backstage as well(just an assumption)- and those of us who teach the value of hard work , passion and respect and the importance of being a good loser as well as winner-dont really want to be around them anyway
I really cant rate this competition as we have not attended yet a Dancers Inc Competition... I see that there are many great reviews but I also see that there are many unfavorable ones. I can truely understand why someone would not want to put their name of their reviews. I cant beleieve what was written by the director of this competiton and His Cooments loving the insults being thrown by other parents at anyone who does write something nice. As a parent, I have already contacted my studio director letting her know I do not think we should attend this competition. If she does dicide to go to Dancers Inc, my 2 daughters will not be attending this competition. that is a choice she will have to make. Word of mouth can grow a buisness or destroy it. I wish you take some of these comments that Parents, teacher, and studio owners have made and not think as you put it sore losers..... maybe they are seeing something you and your team are not.
Wow I am appalled by all if this negative feedback! Dancers Inc is a wonderful loving, friendly and fair competition. I am the owner/director of a dance studio and I have never experienced any bit of negatively or unfairness while attending regionals. I have also however never attended nationals and was never penalized or treated differently because of it. The judges have much more credibility then most other competitions we have attended. I have to disagree with the negative comments about Mr. Dan WHATTTTT???? I\'m sorry but are we thinking of the same man who genuinely greets and chats with everybody??? That is just absurd! He chats with kids backstage and gets them hyped along with trying to be the most personal person to everybody which is probably why he was jokingly skipping down a hallway.. It severely disgusts me that someone would try to ruin the reputation of such a wonderful company. Dance competition is a learning experience WE don\'t always win! I\'m pretty sure if you were part of one of the studios who did In fact walk home top overall winners you wouldn\'t have a negative comment to make. As far as talking of another studios routine that is just as bad as all if your false allegations of the dance competition!! How dare anybody be the judge of another studio. Obviously different day different judges could of been a different outcome. Losing makes kids work harder when they compete against a technically better studio. I teach my kids that they must strive to be their very best but there is nobody perfect and absolutely someone better somewhere. If you didn\'t do well and are just feeling bitter MOVE ON.. But please remember what an impact and role model you are to your students/children not a good look. Try and teach good sportsmanship and teach them to appreciate talent and not to hate on the people who do better then them or to badger the judges because you didn\'t like the outcome. Keep your negative false accusations to yourself or at least fess up.
This was my 10th year with DI; 5 of them as a Studio Director; As an old teacher but new director they were very kind and guiding - even helping me pick other comps and associations to affiliate my studio with -- DI is an HONEST, FAIR competition that not only cares about every kid that crosses the stage but sets an example for them with an honest representation of what it means to work in the industry; My mother would say its the UNSEEN devil you should fear -- if you SEE the staff mingling and conversing and \"playing\" with studios and dancers - then its not a secret is it?? My studio has come in first some seasons and gotten silver others ... and we deserved it each time -- DI judges hard bc they dont want any child to go out in the dance world with less than adequate training... its not snobbery...I use all critiques as teaching tools - I teach my kids to learn even from negatiave comments - I have one complaint with DI and its not with the comp -- I want their videos and photos availabe online for Directors POST comp since I dont have the time to sit and shop AT the event . LOVE DI bringing my brand new teams ASAP so they can get the benefits - THE END!
Speechless.... You are too kind. I appreciate your insight. We will discuss the Vodeo issue in the office.... Until then, Let them eat cake! LOL
We have attended this competition for many years and have always found it to be fair, on time and extremely attentive to the needs of the Dancers and Studio owners. I would recommend it to anyone.
Thank you! Dan
I have 3 girls who all dance and each perfoms on different levels. One who has specials needs and just wants to perform like her sisters! Dancers inc made that happen! That day all of us will never forget and thank you from the bottom of our hearts. As for scoring, I always found to be fair. At times my kid or kids placed and at times they didn\'t and each and every time they knew how they did. All this does is make my kids work and look forward to seeing their score sheets for advice. As for the staff being friendly, we enjoy the interaction as do the kids. Heck most of our kids from our \"small\" studio looks forward to corrections and getting a chance to meet with the judges or staff at convention. It\'s all a learning experience and DI is my kids favorite competition. Every time my kids come back learning something new, made new friends etc. We look forward to many more years with DI!
;)
Wow... I\'ve had the privelage of seeing Dan and e DI staff in action in many cities over many years and not only are they the most amazing group of people, but one with incredible integrity. A beauty queen who loses sometimes thinks she was robbed. Meanwhile the audience thinks who\'s that buck-toothed hag coming to this competition is a Sears Sunday dress and flats? Just like a studio thinks their dancers are the most amazing dancers they\'ve ever seen... Maybe the best in their studio, but there are many studios. I\'ve seen literally over 1,000 results handed out at DI comps and NEVER felt one was out of place. They genuinely care about the dancers, work tirelessly to provide a safe, clean, fair competition. They\'ll even tell the delusional beauty queen what she needs to do to win. The beauty queen can either look in the mirror and do the work, or come to this website and bash one of the best comps in the business. There should be a rule against sore losers posting to this site immediately after they receive scores they don\'t like. If you don\'t want to be judged, maybe stick to parades and stay out of competitions. If a panel of judges says you have a lot of work to do. Maybe that means you\'re not as awesome as you think you are.
Is this My 2 dads? You crack me up. Thanks for the vote of confidence. Some days you just can\'t please everyone. It\'s all about the journey, right?
Reading the responses to the comments explains how poorly run this competition is. As an owner reading the negative comments you should try to regain their business not take offense and tell them they were not up to the standards of your competition. You are a middle range competition. No Hall of Fame or KAR don\'t act like you are above anyone who attends your events. If you don\'t want recreational dancers get rid of your future star and rising star categories because that is what they are for lower ability dancers. How can you talk about motivation when you are putting dancers down by saying that they aren\'t good enough for you. We have attended much larger and more talented competitions and have never experienced anything like this. I am by no means unhappy with my students receiving the awards they received I am beyond unhappy with the professionalism and the complete disregard for dance studios that don\'t attend your Nationals. You ask for teachers and directors to seek you out and talk to you, but we are your customers. YOU should seek us out and introduce yourself as the director and welcome us. They shouldn\'t have to chase you down. I have never been to a competition that the director sat at the judges table for the majority of the day. With score sheets getting changed without judges signatures, the ones that pass through the hands of you/your other directors before reaching the tabulator, seems extremely suspicious. The previous comment expressed the overly friendly relationships, studio codes being announced, lack of judges attention, and studio directors talking to judges at the judges table in between dances so I won\'t go into it. The awards though, what competition gives a general plaque with no description just \"group winner\". Paying $35 a dancer per group you\'d think you could give an award with the actual title gold, high gold ect. Your giving participation awards. Needless to say this is a poorly run competition and would never recommend anyone.
Thank you for your most valuable insight....You\'re the best!Good Luck with the rest of your season. Dan
I was also at this competition and I sat behind the judges and saw for myself that they were not paying attention to all of the dancers with the same level of attention on stage. They were talking about a particular dancer they had just watched from one of the preferred schools who was absolutely an excellent dancer while my daughter was dancing, they WERE NOT watching her dance.I saw and heard it for myself. Announcing studio codes before each dance undermines the objectivity of the judges, we have been going to competitions for 14 years and I have never seen this done, it creates a \"Halo Effect\". The studio you dance for should be irrelevant and not part of the judging process. It seems to me based on what I observed, that the judges level and intensity of observation was driven by the announced studio code. It was clear and obvious, one example was a dance in one of the small group categories. It won 1st place while unsuccessfully bouncing basketballs on stage, I thought it was a recreational dance, or a joke. You can say these comments are sour grapes to explain these questionable practices, but I know what I saw. We went to your competition in good faith, we have many strong dancers with long and significant track records of success, this has nothing to do with how well we did or didn\'t do. All we expected was a level playing field and a true professional and objective judging process which I am sorry we didn\'t get. Interesting comment above the tone and wording looks very familiar, the fact is I never said anything about the results of the judging, in my opinion, there wasn\'t any. I am sure you have many AMAZING!!!! testimonials, this was my honest and personal experience, even if I am just a old hag in my Sears sunday best dress. This site is here for a reason, people can take the information and decide for themselves what to believe, sore loser, concerned parent, or vengeful competition director.
This was the first and LAST time I will be attending Dancers Inc. I have never been to a competition run as unprofessionally as Dancers Inc. The amount of favoritism showed by the Dancers Inc. staff left me speechless. They did not even try to hide the fact that they only cared about certain studios in attendance. Studio codes being announced before each dance entered the stage in my personal opinion allowing judges to know which dances to watch and score well depending on your studio. I say this only because if you were not from a certain studio the judges were talking to each other, turning around looking in the audience, fixing their hair and not even paying attention to the dancers on stage. They have their titleholders working at the competition and performing before awards, which wouldn’t be such a huge deal, but when the titleholder is actually there with their studio and competing it is just not right! There was studio directors of the favored studios hanging out up near the judges table? Owners of the competition were walking hand and hand with top scoring soloist winners. At awards the directors of the competition were calling girls from certain studios by name and telling personal stories about how well they know each other. I also had a huge problem with the awards given out… no trophies just plaques that did not even tell you what award or placement you received they just said group winner. Dancers Inc is one of the most expensive competitions we have entered our students in and they cannot even write on their plaques what you are actually winning?! Lastly my absolute favorite, as we went through the score sheets after the competition there were multiple times where we had scores scribbled out with new ones written underneath it. Dancers Inc. has left our students upset and down on themselves and myself speechless and mortified at how they can run a business in such a way.
Dear ANONYMOUS, I\'m so sorry that you feel this way ANONYMOUS TEACHER... We had more Title Holders present that did not perform.... I also wanted you to know that before this weekend, the Judging panel had never seen any of our current Title Winners. They had no idea who they were until after they were finished competing. The one Title Holder that did perform, who\'s studio was present, danced on the second day, and he had no competition on that day....He competed the day before, on Saturday, and only came on Sunday to support his studio. One of the Judges actually looked over at me and laughed.... She said, \"I had no idea that he was your reigning Jr. Mr.,\" and the other 2 Judges agreed. I also wish to clarify that the judges were not speaking to eachother, they were speaking in to the microphones. I\'m sorry that you left with such a bad taste in your mouth. I also need to let you know that I speak not only for myself, but almost every Competition out there. Not every Studio wins all the time...The variables always change, and there are no favorites.... BUT.... The cream rises to the top... Some days you are on top, some you are not. If you don\'t like the results, work harder! ( I figure I can tell you the truth, because you will obviously never be back...lol...)As with life, not everyone wins all of the time.... Also, one more little tid bit.... One of the most winning schools this weekend was a smaller studio, that doesn\'t bring that many dances... I am a very friendly person, and I\'m glad that you mentioned that I called some special people\'s names at AWARDS... AWARDS being the key word..... The judging was already done by that point, and the judges weren\'t even present. It\'s not my first time at the rodeo my dear.... I wish you well with your career, and when you awake from your introspective, and want to offer a critique with a name and affiliation attached, I will gladly be happy to work with you. Now you leave yourself looking like a sore loser, and a coward who doesn\'t dare to show her/himself...... I call that a kin to Bullying, how about you... Ahh.... and yes, if you look next to the scores, the judges initialed them as a statement that they were, and are, always the ones representing the change... We also judge in pen, much better than pencil, don\'t you think? I hope the video critiques are a great guide for you and your dancers....The judges didn\'t stop talking through a lot of dances.... The only time our judges don\'t talk on the video is when they are being thouroughly entertained, or when something is so bad that they have nothing good to say... Sad thing that I am getting ready to push send on this, but I\'m so tired of these sites that hold noone accountable for their shameful behavior, and the ability to randomly bash an organization with no chance for rebutle. You need to realize that here, I can respond.... I am happy for that. Please refer to the other one star response from, (I assume,) your studio to read about who I was running down the hall with holding hands... I appreciate you sharing your experience with the world. Dancers Inc. hires extremely qualified judges, and the staff is always accomodating...My job is to objectively offer a critique to a beginner, intermediate, or advanced level dancer, not to over inflate their egos, and tell them that they are perfect for Broadway tomorrow! I spoke to 11 of the 13 schools who attended this past weekend and they were all thrilled with their results... Oh, and PS.... How about me giving the \"Props\" award to all of the dads that I had never met from 3 different studios! Amazing moment, wasn\'t it? 3 sets of dads, from different places and studios, all coming together for their children..... reviews like this, from you, I will gladly take under consideration, but they are far inferior when moments that special happen.....Those dads taught us all the true meaning of healthy competition, don\'t you think.... And that\'s what it\'s really about. I respectfully wish you well in the future... Dan
This was possibly the WORST competition I\'ve ever attended. I don\'t even know where to start. Dancers Inc. didn\'t even attempt to hide the favoritism this weekend. The judges did not even watch our dances. I clearly saw them looking around at the audience and down at their tables pretty much the entire performance. I then saw one of the directors of the competition walking down the hallway hand in hand with top scoring senior soloist. Some of our soloists went from consistently winning platinums to winning high silvers and golds. HUGE waste of time and money. Safe to say this was the first AND LAST time ever attending dancers inc.
I\'m so sorry that you feel this way. I wish you had introduced yourself....I am friends with everybody, not just a select few... I did walk down the hall with Lauren, you are correct. She deserved everything that she got, and the judges that were judging the event had never judged her before. You were all on an even playing field. There was no favortism as the judges had no idea who was there.... Lauren was one of 3 girls from all over the country that was asked to stay at the Tisch audition this year..... When she told me that,I did go skipping down the hall with her, my heart filled with joy, as she is one of the most dedicated dancers that I have ever had the honor of meeting. Oh, PS.... she ran for Titles at my Nationals in Hershey last year, and placed 1st runner up. She had never come in second before in her entire life, and dance career! She says it was the most inspiring experience and one of the most motivating factors in her life to date.... Now, There\'s some Motivation, Dedication, and Determination that even I aspire to have.... Again, I wish you had introduced yourself and realized that the schools that were winning could have cared less where they placed amongst the talent that was there, they just were there to embrace the chance to dance, and don\'t care whether they win or lose, they do it for the growth and experience...It was also some of the most amazing talent that I have seen this early in the season, EVER... Good luck, and please keep working and enjoy your Platinums. When you are auditioning for a Broadway show in the future and meet Lauren, please introduce yourself. She\'s very sweet. Have a beautiful dance year..... Mr. Dan
My daughters small dance school in Hillsborough has been attending Dancers Inc for a number of years. Our school takes 10-12 dances in total and our dances range in size from 3 dancers to 12 dancers this year. We LOVE Dancers Inc. Dan and his staff are the best!!!. The whole competition is great and always stays on schedule if not ahead of schedule!!! It is professional and very fairly scored. You leave the competition feeling good and the dancers most importantly leave feeling good about themselves!!!
Thank you so much for writing this. It has nothing to do with the size of your studio! The quality performances always rise to the top.... Your post is appreciated.... Dan
I\'m sure we will NOT be attending this competition again. I felt the judging and scoring was inconsistent, tap especially. 2 of our girls go to NYC to the Rockettes summer intensive and they got gold??? I agree that larger studios, that brought lots of numbers and $$$, seem to do very well. It was also apparent that there were personal relationships with many of the students from the larger studios. Our kids took note of this, as well. It is all a learning experience. Even if you want to \"thank\" the larger studios, you shouldn\'t be offensive with the scoring of \"other\" studios. And, no, we aren\'t a \"recreational\" team as you would suggest.
So sorry to read this. I wish you had spoken to Travis or Kim at the event, they thought things went extremely well. They did say that a couple of studios had some really stand out performances, and that the judging was very fair though.... One of your Judges at that event was actually a Rockette for years. She would have loved to have met them....Wishing you much luck in the future. Keep working hard, and having the girls pursue their dreams. Dan
My wife and I love Dancer\'s Inc. The staff is terrific (special shout outs to Kim, Travis and Roy) and we LOVE Dan. I must say that our daughter attends numerous competitions throughout the year, but as a parent, we prefer going to the Dancer\'s Inc competitions. Looking forward to Nationals at Foxwoods in July *we are making a family vacation out of it!
SWEET..... The penny machines are calling me.... LOL... I won $11.00 the last time I went....woohoo!!!!
We have not attended this competition in years and with good reason. We are a small studio. On average, our competition fees are $2200-$2500 per competition. We have been competing for 9 years and have done well both regionally and nationally at other competitions. The last time we attended this competition, it was our last competition of the season and we actually received a few silvers and high silvers with pieces that had received High Golds and Platinums prior, as well as placing overall. You can tell by Dan\'s remarks to everyone else that stated this below that he will come back with \"Well, your studio is more recreational, I hope you find another competition that is more recreational like your studio because clearly, you are not at our level.\" Really!!! Don\'t attend this competition unless you are sending a BIG check. If my pieces scored low at every competition, I would say so.
Hello Melissa, First, I want to thank you for reviewing our competition! By doing so, it appears in the top of the feed today, and anyone now looking, can see the stellar comments posted after yours. At Dancers Inc. we value a strong work ethic, and truly believe that every dancer in every dance should be rewarded and critiqued based on the dance that they are doing. If your \"A\" team gets up and doesn\'t complete a double piroutee in one routine, but successfully completes it in another, of course the higher score will be reflected in the routine that was polished and perfected. I would also like to say that many smaller schools have, and continue to attend our events. One actually took the overall group at Nationals this past year, and I couldn\'t be more proud of my judging panel for awarding their technique, passion, and performance with the 1st place National win. What we try to do at DI is create an environment of comfort with a great learning experience. I\'m glad that you have found a place where you can achieve your Platinum status that you so crave. In the future, if you wish to quote me, please do it accurately. I don\'t believe after reviewing all of my critiques on here that I ever said \"You are not at our level.\" As you have a rite to excercise your opinions; so do I. If you read the statements completely, you can obviously see that I was offering constructive criticism to the parents, and studio that may help them in the future. By recieving High Silver at our event, I obviously fueled a fire inside of you if you are writing about us so many years later at 3:30 am. For that I am proud, and wish you nothing but success in your future as you move forward. You obviously didn\'t like the results at our event. Were you the best team there? Should you have recieved the higher rankings? Were all of the variables the same at all of your events since ours? Chances are, that they were not. As with the others, I can only thank you for your critique, because as I fueled the fire within you so many years ago, you have done the same for me. Here\'s to a great season of dance for us both, and as much as I don\'t like to lose a client, I\'m glad you won\'t be joining us. Someone who has so much anger over a dance competition so many years later is obviously someone with whom I would rather not spend the weekend. I try to surround with positivity. Best wishes for a beautiful season..... If you would like to constructively state your arguement, and not hide behind a keyboard, I am always available to chat.Dan #Loveislouder .....
Hi there! So I used to go to Dance America and had a good experience there, but in 2010 we started to come to Dancers Inc. and the experience was extraordinary! I have now been to four competitions and everybody is always so friendly. I come from a small studio where we only do one competition a year and do not bring many routines, usually only 2 or 3! Even when we are a small team we usually score well, proving that the judges judge routines on QUALITY not the size of the company. I really don\'t understand where these one stars are coming from and it is kind of saddening. Everybody is always super friendly at the competition, and Mr. Dan interacts with ALL the dancers as long as you are friendly to him!(He even wore my tutu on his head once because he liked all the sparkles!) The competition is also well run and on time if not early. I go to the Portland Regionals and the New England Nationals and it is always a good experience. I love coming to this competition and look forward to the next year as soon as the one I am at is over! I love Dancers Inc. and thank you to the amazing people who run it!
LOL.... I remember the Tutu thing.... LOL! That was a great dance! xox db
One of our favorite competitions and conventions! We have attended 3-4 years now and rarely are disappointed. Dan, Kim, Keith are just tremendous. There are so many positives to this competition. Limiting the entries, great judges and critiques, rewards of scholarships, etc. Our dancers LOVE the convention and I love the teacher\'s lunch. A great opportunity to reflect. Our one disappointment is the venue for the convention which I know everyone has been working on at the Dancer\'s Inc end. There isn\'t a ton of great spaces in our city so it is a challenge. We will continue to attend!
;) This makes me smile.... It\'s not about the size of the school, or the number of entries.... It\'s about the work involved to get there! We\'ll keep working on that convention space for you!
We LOVE Dancers Inc!!! The staff was amazing. Everyone we spoke to or needed our questions asked, they were so positive and helped us. The competition ran very smoothly both for regionals and Nationals. We can\'t wait to bring our numbers to the 2014 season!!!
Very well ran. Love this competition!
Just ok.
Hello, could you help us by expanding on your critique of our event. I would love to know the specifics.... Thanks, Dan
I have attended this competition twice for regionals and nationals. We are a smaller studio and only bring about 20 numbers. My students, parents, staff and I always feel welcomed. The judging is fair, the staff is AMAZING, they are always on time and runn very smooth. We will be attending again next year!
See you soon! Thanks for this.... Dan
A competition for smaller studios, but it had great judging and a good staff! (I wish they would post their results online.)
My studio is starting it's 5th year this September. We just started competiting a few months ago and brought a small group (6) ages 7&8 to the Secaucus competition. I was quite nervous seeing what the competition was like as we had only been to one competition a few weeks before and I have been out of that world for quite sometime. We walked into Dancers Inc and were imediately greeted. Everything seemed very organized and I was so happy to see them running on time (especially with how many numbers were competiting before them). There were a lot of numbers in our catergory (I believe 20 just in our level) but they ran well so it wasn't a bother. My girls placed second overall and missed first by 1/2 a point which frankly I was thrilled with considering the team that won 1st was Acro and it was the first time they danced together and at a competition (and had no "tricks" in their dance). (I never understood how Acro and Contemporary/Jazz can be judged the same but again, it seems it's like that everywhere). In any event, I have to say they were very nice, organized and backstage crew was wonderful. I did notice that Mr. Dan knew one school in particular who did win a lot of the overalls (including in my category) but frankly, I didn't see favoritism. I think they deserved to win. We only brought one dance...I will be returning this year with more dances and dancers and will be attending Nationals. Thank you for making our first experience a great one!!!!
;) Dan
First timer here this season. A studio owner friend had been raving about Dancer\'s Inc. One of my teachers (who also teaches for her) concurred and both convinced me to try DI this year. I\'m so thrilled I listened to them! From the first moment I got on the phone with Dan last summer I knew we\'d found a home at DI. We were thrilled with all of the standard reasons one likes a competition (friendly staff, realistic scoring, on time schedule, limited hours, high caliber studios, great facility choice, AMAZING BACKSTAGE & OFFICE CREW, etc). But what floored us was Dan\'s immediate embracing of a special group of dancers. He was key in making it possible for one of our dancers (a child who lives with cerebral palsy) to realize her dream of competing with our dance team. Dan went over and beyond to not only embrace the kids and the piece but to get our message of inclusion out to the world. He\'s an amazing man who has gathered a fabulous group of people around him. We\'re Dancer\'s Inc lifers :o)
Dancers Inc. lifers..... LOL...... So am I... See you this season! xo db
DI has been our favorite competition for 8 years now. Our dancers do ok, but it is more about the experience. They always feel welcomed by the staff. The directors are fabulous as well as the back stage staff. They are always on time, or early, and scoring has been fair. It\'s a family atmosphere where all are welcomed. The rest is icing on the cake. And the extras that DI does for communities in need (hurricanes, floods, etc) shows the type of leadership present...always giving back.
I must say I truly love everything about DI! They are such a class act! The three levels of competition allow for dancers of all abilities to take part in the competition and be scored fairly according to years of dance experience. Also, the opportunities DI has for special needs children are truly amazing!! There is nothing better than seeing a special needs child be able to participate in a competition along with their peers. Thank you so much for allowing them that wonderful opportunity!!
Have been attending DI regionals for years - had the opportunity to attend Nationals in Hershey a few years ago as well as his Ultimate Challenge twice - Besides being well organized and accommodating a more friendly staff - down to the ladies that sell the merchandise. DI in my opinion is one of the tougher scoring comps out there today - and don\'t hand out Elites to underserving routines because the studio brought 999 routines - Lets keep in mind it\'s a competition and NOT everyone is a winner
Regarding Dancers Inc. .....Wow there is something to be said for the comp company that has more reviews than anyone. I signed on to rate Dancers Inc. :) don\'t know how I got a silver status, but there was no option for \"sister\"! As the older sister of (Mr.) Dan I want to speak out about his character. He\'s an amazing brother and has great passion for his work which goes *well beyond* what you see on stage. He is really easy to get to know and makes himself accessible. The folks that work for him and with him are incredibly wonderful people. Some are his friends from childhood! He has friends everywhere and of all ages and stages in life. I am amazed at how many people who know him and how many names and faces he knows. He loves the world of dance. My brother was born dancing and singing. A few years ago I watched him teach a master class in tap and I was blown away. I cried. I\'d forgotten how much he knew about the craft and his dancing was amazing. He feels it in his body, his heart, his soul. He CARES. I\'ve never seen him behave in a patronizing way at the competitions he runs. Everyone needs some TOUGH LOVE. I watched with pride when he graduated from Emerson at the age of nearly 26. However what preceded was a lot of hard work, painful life lessons, tough choices, tough love, and here he is today. If Dancer\'s Inc. didn\'t suit you, you should call him and talk to him. Sorry I got personal, Dan. Much love, your sister C.
Wow..... Thanks for sharing this.
Dan Barris and his staff at Dancers Inc are second to none. We have attended his regional comps for many years and also competed at his nationals a few years ago, as well as his Ultimate Challenge several times. I have to say his is one of the tougher scoring comps, but they are always fair and consistent. They always run on or ahead of time and the master classes are top notch. Highly recommended. Being with Dan and his crew is like being home...
Just attended their Nationals. A very positive and supportive environment for dancers. Everything ran on time, judging was fair. All in all a fabulous experience. I have been doing comps for almost 8 years and I think was one of the best I have EVER attended! The staff was so very helpful and I WILL bring my daughter back next year, even if I have to do so independently! It is a competition, and not everyone will win. My daughter did very well in some things, not so well in others. I encourage everyone to attend Dancer\'s Inc!
I enjoy this competition. The judging is fair and every time I have gone, they have been running on schedule.
I have attended DI for quite some time and Mr. Dan and all the staff have always gone above and beyond to make sure each and everyone is comfortable and treated fairly, and most important equally. The convention classes are challenging and help the growth of each dancer individually. If you want an honest competition and are seeking an all around great experience chose Dancer\'s Inc.
Dancers, Inc. My studio has been attending Dancers Inc. for about 8 years. We have been on the competition circuit for 26 years and have been to many, many events. I give Dancers, Inc. 5 stars for many reasons!! The director Dan is wonderful and is always approachable at every event to the dancers, parents and teachers. His love for dance and children is quite evident. My students always love the convention classes along with the competition! The staff is always friendly and helpful. The judges are very qualified and fair. If you are looking for a competition /convention to add to your schedule for next season, give them a try. You won\'t be disappointed!
Mr Dan and Staff You are by far the BEST BEST BEST BEESSSTTTTTT Comp at both Regional\'s and Nationals!!!! My 3 daughters have been dancing since they were 2. My twins are now 14 and the youngest is 11. We just attended another comp and my little one wore her Dancers Inc gear to it because she loves DI so much. Your staff, judges and locations are always top notch! THANK YOU for all you do and don\'t let a few \"Bad Apples\" who think EVERYONE deserves a trophy just for showing up bring you down. The world we live in doesnt work that way and neither should ANY comp! You get what you earn. Simple as that! We love you all and can\'t wait till next season and look forward to seeing you all again!!!!! These parents who complain should try working a comp sometime and see just how much goes into it and how hard you do work to accommodate everyone there. Dancers get what they earn... and unless you know as much about dance and technique as these people at DI do... dont judge them. Remember you are a dance Mom and not a Dance teacher... maybe you need a new studio???
A little shocked at the voracity and numbers of folks bashing this comp/nationals- can you really say your dancers did not grow in any way from this experience? At ALL comps there are people who have been with that company since DAY 1 - ALL Comp Directors have that network- just as SO\'s and Parents have a group that they look to within their own studio-- all it takes to be in that position is open dialogue with the Directors and a truthful eye about what YOU are bringing to the table . It IS a competition , not everyone wins -- my dancers are High Golds at most comps , every now and then we nail it and walk away with Platinum or Elite - my kids are made to watch their competitors throughout the season- they know where they will place before they walk in -- THEY GROW FROM EVERY VISIT TO DANCERS INC BECAUSE NO ONE \"BLOWS SMOKE\" AT THEM- If they need to work , they are told and then its reinforced at home with me ... NOT every Comp suits every studio ... I look for honesty in judging , respect among Directors to SOs, valuable critiques and organizational skills, and dancers who inspire my kids... DI is at the top of my list ... I will never take my dancers somewhere just to bring home the biggest trophy- they have to earn it in a competitive environment ...again DI meets the criteria ... take a moment and breathe and re think -- THERE ARE ALOT WORSE OUT THERE!!
As a dancer, I have been competing at DI for years. Let me start by saying that Dan, the director, is the sweetest, most down-to-earth person I know. He is wonderful with the dancers and at some competitions would even be backstage helping with stretches and giving little critiques. The backstage staff are always wonderful and very organized. They work hard to make the competition experience the best it can possibly be. Awards are given out fairly, based on what the judges saw in your routine at that moment in time. The best thing about DI though is that they are willing to help you improve. Everything, even the workshops, are based on improvement because even the best dancers have room to grow. If you\'re looking for a competition that cares about the growth of your dancer and isn\'t giving out awards just for participating, then beyond a shadow of a doubt, this is the competition to go to!
I have been going to dance competitions for over 15 years and DI so far has been my favorite. My kids have won and they have lost. DI has more opportunities for dancer\'s of every level to leave with something. The staff is always smiling and encouraging. And yes, if you are a repeat studio they will get you know you but if you are new you have to put yourself out there to introduce yourself. This, I feel, is no reflection of the results of the competition. Although we did not attend this past competition season, Hershey Nationals always had some of the best talent I had ever seen! Unfortunately we all don\'t live near such wonderful studios that turns out such beautiful choreography and technical dancer\'s. But it does seem like many of those types of studios attend DI. It does not matter what or where you may have placed at other competitions. The results of each and every one will vary depending on judges and the talent attending. Even at regional and national levels of the same competition. Studios need to realize that they have to push the envelope each and every time they are choreographing and teaching. You can\'t just present the same thing each and every year. And when you are trying a new competition you can\'t go just thinking because you won somewhere else you will win there as well. At DI, to win in All Star you have to bring technically sound dances and innovative choreography. That is the way it should be. I wish every dance facility in the nation could produce these type of dances, but they do not. And once you send your fees in you have put the judging in the hands, subjectively, to those experienced in their fields. You just can\'t get upset about it. Everyone just can\'t win, that is life. I know my kids can\'t wait to go back next year. We have met great parents, teachers and dancers and are forever learning with our experiences. We luv DI!!!
My first ever competition, in 2005, was Dancers Inc. Every time I go to a DI competition or workshop class, I feel right at home. With Mr. Dan cracking jokes during awards, and getting to know the directors and judges and staff even better, Dancers Inc feels like my third home (my dance studio being the second). I\'ve gone to DI\'s nationals almost every year I\'ve competed, and I can safely say that they are amazing at what they do. I love the choreography competition, I love the parties, I love the workshops; I just really love Dancers Inc. Thanks, DI!
OMG..... Please inbox me at dan@dancers-inc.com and let me know what studio, and who you are. You and DI turn 10 together next year! It\'s going to be so exciting! See you in Hershey, 2014!!!!!!! xoxox Mr. Dan
We have been going to DI for many years. Hershey was actually my daughter\'s first national and she was only 7. We didn\'t place as high as we wanted to but the competition was pretty fierce so we weren\'t surprised. My daughter really enjoyed the classes and all the events at the convention. It was an awesome wrap up to their season. Dan is very kind to the students and their parents, he strives to put on a great convention and is truly a joy to be around. If you\'re struggling with how your team places at ANY event, you really have to bear in mind that its anyone\'s day at any point in time. Different judges, different results. The dance industry is very competitive and you really should focus your dancer on understanding that they should strive to do their personal best, implement feedback provided by their coaches and the judges and move on.
I have been going to Dancers Inc for over 4 years now. This competition isn\'t just a competition, It feels like home. All of the staff and directors are so nice, caring, and helpful to all. They make you feel like you are apart of one big family. I wouldnt trade this competition for the world, no matter how many others I go to, DI will always be my favorite. I couldn\'t think of a better executive director than Mr. Dan. He is the most caring kindhearted person I think I have ever met. He takes the time and bonds with everybody, something that doesn\'t happen very often. Coming from a small studio in a little town in Northern Maine it means a lot. Not just Mr. Dan, but everyone there is so wonderful. Roy especially , has impacted a lot of girls from our studio, from giving them advice, letting them have second chances on stage, giving us all a laugh, and calming competition jitters. All of this makes me realize how lucky we are to be able to attend such a great competition like DI. Much love to all of the staff, keep on doing what you\'re doing and don\'t change. You guys are the best
Dancers Inc. is more than a competition it is an experience. As a dancer I have gone to a number of competitions and done well, but my experiences at these competitions cannot compare to that of Dancers Inc. Dancers Inc. is the total package. Winning is the last thing I am concerned about when I go to this competition, I prefer to think about the friends and memories I will make. I have been competing at this competition for 6 years now and still have relationships with dancers I met the first year I started competing. Dancers Inc welcomes everyone with open arms. They accept you for what you are, unlike most competitions. The staff and crew do their very best to accommodate you. They make sure that everything runs on time, if not ahead of schedule. They make you feel like part of their family. Mr. Dan is probably one of the most incredible people I have ever met. He has the biggest heart out there! Everything he does, he does from the bottom of his heart with the dancers in mind. Mr. Dan has been a true inspiration to me and has encouraged me to be the best person I can be. Overall, Dancers Inc. has been more than just a competition and I am so blessed to have been a part of such a wonderful competition.
My studio has attended multiple Dancer\'s Inc competitions and I have never been happier with a competition in my life. The environment that Mr. Dan and the rest of the crew strives for is one of healthy competition where it is ok to be good friends with other competitors. In fact I met some of my very best friends while at Dancer\'s Inc. Since I graduated last year and no longer attend competitions I must say that the Dancer\'s Inc is the one that I miss above all else. They strive not only to run a competition but to teach everyone about how to be a good dancer and a good person. I have had the opportunity to take class from almost every single member of the Dancer\'s Inc staff and they were/are just as influential in my dance training as my studio teachers were and are. They are so influential in fact that I asked one of them too choreograph an audition solo for me to use for my college auditions. The convention classes are some of the best that I have ever taken in my life and for the price they are a bargain. I really can\'t say enough about Dancer\'s Inc. They helped me so much thoughout my dance career so far and I love all of them more than anything. If you put the effort forth to talk to the staff and understand their critiques in competition and their lessons in class then I guarantee whether you place first or last you will always leave the competition on top.
Dancers Inc. is the most wonderful competition around. Not only do students get the chance to compete with superior dancers from all around, Dan makes sure they do it in a wonderful environment where they learn!!! What else can you ask for?
Dancers Inc. is the most welcoming dance competition I have ever attended. My studio participated in the most recent Nationals in PA and had an amazing experience! Mr. Dan and the whole staff go out of their way to make everyone happy and have the best experience possible. The judging is fair, the schedule is followed very accurately, and the classes offered are very educational. DI is an amazing organization that does so much more than run a competition. They educate dancers, fundraise for other charities (Love is Louder, etc.), and provide great feedback to improve every group that comes through their doors. Studios of all sizes are welcomed at DI and if you didn\'t feel accepted, you most likely did not make an effort to form bonds with other dancers and staff! Next time try to create a positive experience for yourself by making a mutual effort. :) All in all, my family, fellow dancers, and I all love Dancers Inc.
I have attended over 30 different competitions as either a competitor as a child, a teacher or now as a studio director. Dancers Inc. is not only my favorite, but my dancers and their parents as well. We love it so much that we did something this year that I don\'t think any other studio has ever done. We attended only Dancers Inc. regional competitions. That is right, we attended 4 different competitions in 4 different locations. We don\'t win every high score and certainly feel we were judged fairly. The staff is wonderful and make the kids feel at home and comfortable. I can honestly say the Director Roy Lightner is personally responsible for completely changing the life of one of my dancers who didn\'t have the confidence in herself to believe in her dreams. And just so you know, this was the first time he met her. Dan Barris has the biggest heart and wants to know each dancer, support them and cheer them on. He learns the kids names and enjoys watching them grow. Emily in the office is always right on top of things and sees to it that the competitions run smoothly. We have attended several Dancers Inc. Nationals and enjoyed them just as much. I highly recommend this wonderful company to any dance company. You will not be disappointed.
This is our 2nd year attending Dancers Inc. Nationals and I must saw that this so far is my daughters favorite. We love it so much because it is not just a competition, it is a growing family. Mr. Dan you and all the other directors and staff members are great. You are all friendly, kind, courteous, and I could just go on. I was able to get to know some of your staff this year and it was really great talking with all of them. Ben you are awesome!!!! I look forward to our studio continuing to grow with Dancers Inc. My daughter has learned so much in these 2 years because of everyone at Dancers Inc. and by getting to know other dancers from other studios. You are all amazing people and I thank you for all that you do for EVERYONE!!!!!
It is only our second regional/national with this competition. Our studio is in it\'s 54rth year. I have been teaching for 30 of these years and owned it for the last 15 years. We have had our share of ups and downs with competitions. WE have been through \"those who bring in the most revenue win the most awards.\" And everything else you can think of. In all honesty I have found dancers inc. to be very fair. I may not have agreed with all of the outcomes, but I have to be realistic about the fact that there is always someone out there that is better. My kids are good, but they are not always the best. we work hard and try to teach our kids that with good work ethics, dedication and commitment, good things will come. Mr. Dan and ALL of his staff and faculty have been the most personable, the most social \"competition people\" I have ever encountered! And from what I have observed, they certainly haven\'t played favorites. They are as nice to us as they are to the next studio. Mr. Dan himself is one of the most generous, selfless people I know, Over all our experience with this competition has been very positive. I can only hope that our relationship with dancer\'s inc. continues to grow, and strengthen as we have watched dancers inc. grow and strengthen in the past two years. I am proud to be associated! By the way, any class/workshop they have offered has been well worth the money. The teachers that my students have had the opportunity to study with have had wonderful things to offer-really if you enter into something with a positive thought, maybe the outcome would be more positive. I am speaking not only as a studio owner, but as a parent of three teenagers who compete. I think that the people who are rating dancer\'s inc. as a negative experience don\'t have enough knowledge of the competition world. Just because you pay the same entry fees doesn\'t mean you are going to win anything. YOU MUST EARN THOSE AWARDS! Thank you Mr. Dan and crew!
I know who you are, and I couldn\'t be more honored than to see this. Miss E., I have tears in my eyes.... (Nothing new, right.....lol) But with such a dance luminary as you taking time to write this, I am honored. WOW.... Today is going to be amazing!
The dance studio that I attend LOVES dancers inc! it is by far the best competition i have gone to. Mr. Dan and the rest of the crew act as if they are you\'re own family. they treat you with respect and listen to everything you have to say! If you didn\'t place maybe you weren\'t in the right category! There a 3 too choose from so that shouldn\'t be a problem. My team has won multiple times from this competition but not all the time. We have our good years and bad years. Just because you didn\'t place well or at all in this competition doesn\'t mean they aren\'t fair. And of course they make you pay for classes, it\'s a competition! they don;t over pay you, you\'re money is always spent wisely for them to make a better competition. WE LOVE YOU DAN!!
We have attended Dancers Inc. for many years and LOVE them! Always supportive and positive to the dancers, parents and teachers! We do not bring many routines but always find the judging to be quality and informative. They truly care about the dancers that attend the competition and the number of dances you bring doesn\'t appear to affect the outcome. My studio brought one routine to nationals last year (2012) and we won our division and received an invitation to the showcase. Thank you Dancers Inc. for providing a supportive and positive learning environment for my dancers to grow!
We LOVE Dancer\'s Inc.! We are a very small recreational studio. We have attended the last two dance seasons and I plan on working around their schedule to schedule the competitions we will be attending! The directors to the staff have always been so helpful and nice! One of my dancers were having a really bad day getting to the competition, getting into a car wreck(they didn\'t know it was a wreck), they held her number for hours, even came check with me. I do fine they are tough judges but fair all around the board, never thought they played favoritism towards particular studios. Love this competition! Looking forward to next year!!! -Alyssa
Dancers inc. is by far my favorite competition. Although I have only had the pleasure of competing with them for two years, I can honestly say they have some of the best regionals and nationals competitions around. Their entire staff and crew is polite, making sure everyone is happy and enjoying the event. The directors are personable and fun to interact with, the judging always seems fair, and the studios attending seem to always be polite and good sports. Mr. Dan Barris has gone out of his way to recognize everyone attending his events and has brought in some of the best choreographers, directors, judges, dancers, etc. to make Dancers inc. events the best around! I am so proud to attend any dancers inc. event I do and highly recommend it to everyone
Thank you so much! This means the world to us. Fairness for all....
I am a mom whose daughter has competed at Dancers Inc since the company started. We looooove the DI experience BECAUSE of the way they get to know everyone instead of just feeling like we are the small unknown school who gets passed by. We didn\'t do nationals this year but have in the past (winning and losing side) and that is where it\'s the teachers responsibility to explain to their students how to use these experiences as growing experiences. We will definitely see you next year DI !!!!!!!
Dancers Inc has always been my home studio\'s favorite competition. The staff and convention choreographers are so inspiring and knowledgeable. Every time I had walked out of a Dancers Inc convention I have always learned something new and useful that I can bring to my craft. The competition always runs on time, and the backstage staff is always helpful and kind. I am very pleased with the family environment that Dancers Inc has, especially in what can be such a competitive sport!
Really.people that just attend nationals in pa. Sorry you feel this way...but from what dancers inc has said in their replys to you comments... Maybe your company is not ready for competition......you can\'t think that just because you paid the same as everyone else you need to place......did you really know how these things work???? Its acompetion......and in some of your statments you are new to this....my daughter has been on a competition team for eight years.and if any company is the fairest its dancers inc.. I have seen some very unfair judging in my time as a dance mom and dancers inc.is no one of them.....maybe you need to listen to what they are telling you and apply what they have said...them maybe in the future your team will be ready to compete with the big League. Don\'t be a hater, it doesn\'t show your team sportmanship.hope you all find what your looking for....
Cannot begin to tell you how impressed I am with Dancer\'s Inc. Dancer\'s Inc is a friendly comp with standards, definitely a rare mix. They are well run and respectful of your time and seek to make it a positive event for all. Judging is fair and accurate. Love Dancer\'s Inc and are on our permanent list of must-do comps.
Dancers Inc comp and staff is one of my favorites. They truly love dance, believe in the dancers and encourage growth. Remember that although they rank each score is individual.
While we did not attend in Hershey, our studio has attended many Dancers Inc competitions and Nationals. We LOVE Dancers Inc. We love Mr Dan and all the staff and directors, and the time, attention and LOVE they give all the kids. They score consistently and give useful, constructive feedback that helps everyone improve. Dancers Inc is the best run, most professional and most organized competition we have ever attended, as well as the most flexible and considerate of its participants.
This was our second time attending Dancers, Inc. Nationals. We are a small studio (approx 21 dancers) To the MD parents - I understand your frustration, as I too remember at our first Nationals with another company - we too got no awards and felt as though we too were overlooked and passed over. We thought our kids were really good - Well that was 10 years ago - Most of us parents look back now and see how far our children have come - they practice hard and they love dancing. Two of my daughters were entered in the titlist competition - so they spent Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in classes, opening # rehearsals and pageant rehearsals - We had attended several Dancers, Inc regionals in the past and 1 National 4 years ago. My oldest daughter (heading to college in a few weeks) - commented that she really likes Dancers, Inc competition because Mr Dan is real and goes out of his way to learn the kids names - Granted my girls may have had more interaction with him, however I have a third daughter who did not compete for title, but he knew her name as well - as well as the names of many of the other girls on our competition team - but again - these girls have competed several times at Dancer\'s Inc. regionals - I thought the cometition was extremely well run and hope to return to their regionals, and nationals as well as fund raisers in the future. Mr Dan has a big heart and loves what he does - OK -so maybe sometimes he gets a little long winded before awards, but it is evident he loves what he does and loves to get to know the girls - and takes the time to encourage and build them up.
This was our first time at this national competition. At regionals we did not do well but were optimistic that if we applied the corrections that were suggested that we would score better at nationals and in general, we did. My daughter dances at a very small studio. We are cognizant that we do not bring nearly as much revenue to the coffers of the competition company but it has been our experience with other companies that we were not treated any differently. I am sorry to say that was not the case at this competition and this probably what I found the most disappointing. This coupled with a fee for the workshops was kind of the icing on the cake. It was also clear that they had established relationships with other studios, which is great, but it just made it more evident that there was a difference with the recognition of the large and small studios. A few pluses should be mentioned. The backstage staff seemed nice and they tended to run on time. I do not think we will return to this competition.
Hello, so sorry that you didn\'t enjoy the event in Hershey. Maybe we aren\'t the right fit for your more recreational type of studio. Keep looking for a more recreational environment and I\'m sure you\'ll be happier there. I wish you well, and thanks so much for the compliment about the backstage crew. If we can ever be of any help at all, don\'t hesitate to get in touch! Dan
We attended one of their regional competitions, it was my first competition as a dance mom. My daughters team didn\'t place well at all. It started this season off rough for me. Then we got to another 4 competitions...and placed top 5 in all of them. So then I am thinking well maybe the girls will have gotten better and Nationals will be great. NOPE! They didn\'t place top 5...and therefore the girls have NO IDEA where they fell in placement for their NATIONAL competition. That\'s the worst for them to understand. Hopefully we at least get some sort of feedback...but doubt it. Don\'t waste your time!
Just weanted to let you know that not all competitions place the kids after a certain number so that noone ever has to leave knowing that they were in last place in all of their dances.... I hope this helps a bit. If we can ever be of an help, don\'t hesitate to get in touch.... Yours in Dance, Dan.
We just returned from their national competition at Hershey. What a waste of money and time! The staff acted like they had no clue what was going on especially when it came to awards. Every question I asked I was given a different answer. It was clear that the director was familiar with several of the students and their studios were the ones that received all the high awards. When we go to a national competition, we expect it to feel like a national competition. This didn\'t even feel like a decent regional. Don\'t waste your time dealing with this company.
I wish you had introduced yourself to me as they all did. Some of the dancers, studios, and families that were there I had just met for the first time.... Sorry that we didn\'t have a chance to meet.... The reason that the studios that these dancers attend won the overall awards is because they are some of the best studios in the country. Are you on their level? I truly hope that your dancers will learn and grow from this experience.Dan
We will not return to Dancers Inc. We are a small studio and felt that it was not a good fit for us. The check in people were very unorganized and no one seemed to know what was going on.
So sorry that you feel this way, I wish you had approached me at the event and let me know how you were truly feeling. I guess the internet is good for something. I hope that your dancers grow and fluorish under your direction. We only announce the tops in each division based on how many were represented in that age group, and level division. When we announce only a first over all, that means that there were less than five in that category..... Top ten means that there were more than 20. I only announced 2 or 3 as 1st overall and they were primarily 10-12 and 13-15 year old beginners... As you climb up in the divisions and get better, your acknowledgements keep getting bigger. It\'s kind of like getting a promotion, and what we all work towards in every day life, don\'t you think? I can tell you that your dancers placed in the bottom of all of their divisions if that helps. Thanks for letting everyone know that we can stick to our schedule! That means alot to so many when they are picking a competition! Good luck in the future, I hope you find a competition that suits you, and your needs, and one that won\'t place your kids in the top 5 just to get your money. I pride myself on honesty, and want the dancers on our stage to know that whether beginner, intermediate, or advanced, there is a place for them to grow. I\'m sorry that you obviously feel a bit battered by the competition that was present, but that\'s why they call it competition, right? Someone always comes out on the bottom and the top. I often think that the BIG STUDIOS that everyone seems to have a problem with are BIG for a reason....They produce dancers that can work. Please use this a a learning experience for your dancers. I see that many of your parents feel a bit battered and had a miserable time too...... I\'m assuming that they are yours as you are all from MD. The only other school that was with us from MD was amazing, and left with rave reviews....I make myself available to everyone at all of our events, and those people that choose to speak to me do, and those that don\'t hopefully will eventually. Stay focused, work hard, and grow strong. you were part of an amazing event with many of the best schools in the country. You should be proud.... Now, please learn from this experience and strengthen and grow....Yours in Dance, Dan
This has to be by far the worst competition my daughters have been to. I was shocked that all categories didn\'t have the same chances for group awards and overall awards chances. The regional scoring was a joke, we thought maybe their nationals would be better.... Definitely NOT BETTER!! And charging the girls money to take a dance class at Nationals was downright greedy. Big thumbs down.!
So sorry you feel this way. We keep classes optional so that you don\'t have to take them for this exact reason! Sorry that you were disappointed with us,many of the schools that were present were some of the best of the best. I hope that your recreational dancers left with the desire to learn more and practice harder so that when your school grows and flourishes, you can look back on this with a smile and realize that every journey starts with a first step. I do wish you well with your future endeavors. Dan
I love Dancer\'s Inc. The folks here are honest and judging is fair. I\'ve been reading all the negative reviews from the one studio in MD and it just sounds like sour grapes. Perhaps their studio just isn\'t that good! Dan...don\'t change a thing!! Your competition is fabulous. My daughter graduated this year so I won\'t get to experience this fun environment anymore. :(...I wish you and DI the BEST!!
Very positive experience. My girls thoroughly enjoyed this competition. The judging was very fair and the event ran smoothly!
We very much enjoy this competition. The convention is awesome, the judging fair, and so far they seem to keep the number of entries accepted at a decent level so it is not overbooked and easily enjoyable.
