ADRENALINE DANCE

Dec 03 2023

Adrenaline has really gone down hill. First of all, we don't need the same pep talk at every.single.awards.show. We get it. It would actually mean something if Adrenaline didn't continuously pick the same favorites over and over, maybe then we would actually believe you. Second, there is hardly any staff at the last two regionals. Don't expect competition pictures, and don't expect convention pictures (unless your dancer is a known favorite.) The Sparks Dance on stage was an embarrassment to the convention. The teachers didn't know what was going on and someone obviosly forgot to cut the music. They said you could donate your awards at the counter, but the people at the counter didn't know anything about that. Just all around mismanagement and miscomunication. Judging is all over the place, but no one ever takes Adrenaline or Revive judging seriously anyways, so there's always that.

This is a review of Adrenaline's Nationals (called National Dance Honors). My daughter enjoyed the convention. She liked the classes and was definitely challenged. As always, it seems there are definitely favorites, as the faculty was always calling out dancers that they knew the names of. This puts the studios that "travel" with them at an advantage compared to smaller studios or solo students. NDH offers a special track for dancers that were "Honored Dancer nominees" at their regional conventions. The Honored dancers audition for a crew and learn a dance in a specific style of dance to perform at the closing gala. A big complaint I have is that the same kids danced in front of the crew dances throughout the entire dance (opening number, closing number, and crew dance). At least in the Teen dance, they did not give any of the dancers in the back a chance to dance at the front (or second or third row). The experience is not cheap (nor is the gala ticket you have to buy to see your dancer). Why not let all the dancers have a chance to shine? Not just the select favorites? I get there are a lot of kids on the stage, but the front-row dancers never seemed to be moved back. All of the dancers earned a chance to be there so why not give everyone some love?

Full transparency: I am a frustrated studio owner writing this review at the conclusion of Friday’s competition. We haven’t gotten through any convention classes yet, but I don’t have much hope. Let me start by warning all studio owners. If you do not do strictly contemporary, DO NOT COME HERE! We do lyrical / jazz primarily and were in for a rude awakening. We attended Dupree two weeks ago with the same solos, and our diamonds at Dupree are somehow high golds here. That’s a 20 point difference. My kids were the only ones doing lyrical in their age divisions, and they scored the lowest 2 or 3 out of their divisions. My kids are advanced dancers. We don’t get high golds. EVER. Secondly, from a non biased standpoint, after watching kids who I didn’t even know, I realized the judging was screwed. These incredible kids were placing tenth or not at all. And kids who were clearly still working on technical aspects of their training were placing top three. I’m just blown away by the inconsistency in the judging. Now my kids can go to sleep crying feeling like failures because they tried their hardest and got their lowest scores ever. I wish we would’ve stayed home this weekend and saved our money, energy and kids’ feelings.

It had been a number of years since our entire studio had attended Adrenaline (for various reasons we were taking a break). We were pleasantly surprised by both the competition and the convention this year. We stopped competing there due to what seemed like unfair judging practices and studio favoritism. Our directors decided to enter a select few of our dances plus solos and we were pleasantly surprised that things seemed to be much improved. The competition was well run and the critiques were useful. As always, the convention was great. The faculty is amazing and the kids learned a lot. We are returning as a studio this year.

I agree with past comments about judging. Some parents were wondering if they mixed up dancers with other dancers because the judging was so inaccurate. The results definitely did not match up with the routines. The results also did not match other competitions that we've gone to. My daughters are in different age groups and both liked the convention. Luckily, they did benefit from that.

My daughter really liked the classes. However, it seemed that when it came time for awards the judges comments on the critiques we later watched didnt match up to scores received. If a low score is given it would be nice to know why. Please dont say great number really enjoyed it but score kind of low and give no reason. How d they improve then?

WAY to political. We have done this 1 for years and it keeps getting worse. When the ONLY dancers that get called out or ask to demonstrate are called BY NAME....there is an issue. The instructors teach and choreograph at many studios and are loyal to those. Will not be returning.

One of our favorite weekends of the year...the staff is truly inspiring and looks to bring out the very best in each dancer. The competition always runs smoothly and the backstage people are helpful and encouraging. My dancers cannot wait to get feedback on their dances and their improvement since the previous season...so personal...we have grown so much over the years as a studio and I love seeing it through the eyes of these beautiful people.

Hi lv2tchdnc! What a humbling review, we truly thank you for your kind words. It's no joke that the crew working backstage really love what they do, and enjoy creating a fun, and calm environment for the dancers, before they head on-stage. We look forward to seeing you and your dance family at a future Adrenaline event, where we hope to inspire your dancers more than the times before! Thank you, Amber!

They have judges who choreograph for dance studios and those dances always win. Even if they do not judge, everyone knows their pieces. Extremely poilitical and unfair. too much contemporary also

Hello sylviag! Thanks for your feedback. We certainly do our best to make sure there is no conflict of interest for each and every event that we host. Please know that all of our judging is consistent and fair and stand behind that. We am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your experience with us, but hope that you try Adrenaline and Revive again in the future. Thank you, Amber!

This is for the Indianapolis event, which is not listed below. My daughter was in the senior room. The classes were good, but it seemed like there were several new staff...also she only got tap once and hip hop once, which was disappointing...finally, if we go back next year, we definitely will not compete. It was evident that the judges did not know tap.

Hello Real.Dance.Mom, thank you for your review. We are happy to hear that you and your daughter enjoyed the classes. We certainly try to give the dancers each genre as much as we can. It is just not always possible with the scheduling. We hope you and your dancer do join us next year when we come back to Indianapolis! Enjoy the rest of your dance season! Amber

The convention/competition was great. Even though the convention rooms are always very crowded. The kids really enjoyed it. Nationals in Las Vegas have been an awesome experience and we are looking forward to several regionals and of course Nationals again this season.

Thank you for your kind review! We are excited to have you join us again at one of our regional events, as well as our all new National Dance Honors! Thanks, Amber!

The regionals are great, teachers for most of the classes are teaching well and the right things. The kids really enjoy this convention. The teachers specific dancer preferences were apparent, should work towards avoiding that. Nationals as a crew member was not a positive experience. Mistakes were made with the sizing of the crew jackets and shirts and the only remediation was the suggestion to find someone who will switch with you when Adrenaline was the one who made the sizing mistake. I understand nationals is a stressful time but studio directors or teachers who are treating kids very poorly/negatively backstage should have been talked to or asked to leave the backstage area. This brought down the mood for everyone around them, and this happened repeatedly.

Thank you for the review! We are so happy that you have enjoyed your regional experience at our regional events. I do understand that the sizing of the crew items ended up running much smaller than anticipated, as that was beyond our control. I will be sure to bring up your concerns to the rest of the team. We hope to see you at Adrenaline and Revive this coming season. Thanks, Amber!

My only concern with Adrenaline is the lack of diversity. I was in the senior ballroom in San Marcos and we did contemporary about 6-7 times through out the whole weekend. Also while all the other age levels auditioned in two different styles, seniors only auditioned in one style... contemporary. This was my first time at Adrenaline so I dony know if this is a normal thing. I would like to attend again because I love the crew concept, but not if im only going to be doing contemporary the whole weekend.

Hi TinyDancer98! Thank you for the review, we take all feedback seriously and appreciate your opinion. I am happy to hear that you will be joining us for another event, as we are a well rounded convention. Adrenaline has an extensive list of faculty members, and a few of them are contemporary teachers. As our company is expanding into two companies, you will see even more diversity and genre options at Adrenaline and Revive dance conventions in the upcoming season! Thanks, Amber

Very good convention/competition. The rooms were challenging and I left feeling like I learned a thing or two. Their performance crew/dance crew system is a little confusing, but it feels more like a real world audition as they have a number of kids they want prior to the audition. The comp did run late, but I think that\'s just all part of it. I don\'t think any of that is based on wanting more money, it\'s just an attempt to make sure as many kids as possible can experience what adrenaline has to offer. The staff is great, I ESPECIALLY love Justin Giles. Brilliant teacher. I\'m definitely excited to go back to New Brunswick for a third time next year. P.S, the venue is excellent, a beautiful and spacious hotel.

First time attending this competition. Our group dances were all on Saturday evening and lasted until after midnight. The mini/junior group dances for our studio had very little time in between for costume changes. 5 out of the 7 dances my daughter was in had very quick changes. We are use to this with a few dances and maybe 4 or 5 dances between. This was not the case. It had the dancers frazzled and they made small mental mistakes on stage and it just had a domino affect for the rest of the evening. Really enjoyed the faculty and they were very positive !!! Room size perfect for classes. Very little scholarship opportunities and communication regarding auditions and what was expected from the dancers.

Hi June64! Thank you for your review. We do understand that those long evenings are tough for the dancers and try our best to end early when we can. Every weekend is laid out differently based on the amount of routines from each school. Sometimes, we have to make the dancers perform every 3-5 numbers so that we can accommodate all of the routines. We truly do try to make the best experience for all of our dancers and their dance families. I hope that you will come check us out again when we are in Atlanta in 2017. Thank you again for sharing! Amber
