This competition seems very professional, but they definitely do favor certain studios over others, and that is probably because those studios are paying the dance competition the most. Unfortunately, this seems to happen amongst all dance competitions, which diminishes the integrity of the event and the morale of the dancers. My biggest complaint with this company is how loud they turn the volume up during the awards. By the time the awards happen, we have been at the venue for hours on end, and they crank up the music so loud it is distorted and unbearable. To do that to the parents who pay dearly for their children to be a competitive dancer is torturous and makes this event insufferable. I really appreciate the event running on time this year, but the noise volume makes this my least favorite competition event.

seemed very partial to certain studios. mostly musical theater
We’ve attended Access Broadway for years. They are very professional. The judges are very accurate and the feedback is very on point. My daughter looks forward to this competition every year. We love the staff. They are very friendly and helpful.
Hi! Dancer here to give you my honest rating of Access Broadway! This competition was at a hotel and from the audience, the floor was a marble floor that was SUPER slippery. It was a "fancy" marly floor tile, but I am not a fan, because I had a tap solo that I was worried about because the floor looked SUPER slippery!! The staff backstage were not good at all!!!!I do not like the place that they chose, judges were right next to you, not down where you have stairs to get to them like a normal stage! The competition ran very late. IT WAS VERY CLEAR THEY WERE FAVORITING ONE STUDIO!!!!!!!!!!! They gave out awards to that studio multiple times!
Competition was fine, but we stopped going when the owner was eating a huge sandwich durning the tap intensive. Taking time out to stop and eat. Conventions are expensive enough, and have kids looking forward to tap, and get a lack luster mediocre routine was just in my eyes unprofessional.
you can only do well at this competition if you're friends with the owner
We have attended Access Broadway several times throughout the years. There is a great variety of acts, including monologues and vocals, that are not seen at every dance competition. All of these are incredibly valuable to the student who wishes to go into the performing arts. The last time we were at Access Broadway, however, we were disappointed that some routines were still performing past midnight. Awards for that day did not begin until after 1:00 a.m. When I entered the audience late that night, to find out how close awards were, I walked into a "sales video" being played for one of the competing schools. Instead of the performance on stage (yes, students were performing) being shown on the video screens, a full 2+ minute commercial was played, showcasing the life and culture inside the school. Walking into the space in the middle of the video, I found it very unprofessional. I did not hear a preface to the video, so there may have been some reason that it was perceived as appropriate; however, in the end, it was just a sales pitch. In an adjudicated atmosphere, promoting one school over all others, in the face of the judges and during the adjudication process, is wrong.
We have been attending Access Broadway for over 10 years. We have been to countless regionals, nationals. We make one specific regional a staple on our schedule. The staff is excellent. The back stage crew is always helpful and the competition is full. Multiple ball rooms get hectic, I can agree, however this is a byproduct of the competition popularity. We always enjoy attending this well run and professional competition.
We LOVE this competition! Ron and his team are a class act! The judging is excellent! The convention classes are amazing! Our Kids love it, from start to finish!!!
A huge favorite of mine, but the best part is the workshops.
We love this competition!!!
I love this competition!!! I highly recommend it to everyone as a season starter! We went to that\'s entertainment and they were HORRIBLE!!!! Rude and disorganized !! But this competition made us feel welcome and definitely had a better flow with awards and overall event !
Poorly run. Did not respond back to our studios questions beforehand, and would only respond back to a Facebook message to them. THey had a poor excuse of \"oh, we didn\'t see your studio\'s name on our list\". also, one of the judges was texting and laughing with another judge during a dancer\'s performance! When the director was approached about it, it was rapidly negated as it couldn\'t have happened. Other reviewer correct about the second competition ballroom. Horrible floor, too many acts going at the same time even from the same studio. And the portable dance floor they had was really odd for the dancers, who kept looking at the floor while dancing because they were so annoyed by it. Awards took forever, and went really late, even for the little dancers (how can they stay up to 10p.m. after a long day of competition? Definitely focused on singing. so, if you\'re a singer, great. If you are a dancer, not so great. Do not recommend at all. I only gave 1 star because the venue was great.
Nice competition. Only thing I have to say is that at our venue, there were two ballrooms that both had numbers running at the same time, and one of the stages (used more for younger groups) was basically just that performance tape on a raised 2 inch platform. It wasn\'t the best because my studio would have two numbers going on at the same time (or close to it) and not everyone was able to see both- you would have to choose which number was more important to you to see, and it was a shame. Also I think the singing part should have a separate day/time, because we would be waiting to see our number and then we\'d just got hit with 4 vocal acts, and I was confused as to how the judges could go from dancing to singing and back to dancing??
I loved this experience of this venue! It was very unique & filled with a lot of excitement!! We had a great experience here & look forward to next year!
Gone for 5 years now! Wasn\'t the same this year! Definitely not as exciting as past! Seems to have lost something. To bad it was a fun comp. Venus those was awesome this year!!!!
A small competition. Doesn\'t have a stage
I like it, a lot! My only concern is that many times it\'s the same judges, over and over, at least that was my observation. Fabulous workshops.
My studio has been attending this competition for many years and we have always loved it, however, this year was very diferent. The main problem was how rude the parents and dancers were. Dancers backstage would laugh and make fun of other performaces and parents would sit in the audience and critizie dancers! I also felt there was a lot of favoritism in the judges. The judges seemed to score numbers with tons of acro tricks compared to numbers with amazing techinque. The competittion also ran 2 hours behind! On a positive note, the staff were all very friendly and helpful and the competition venu was gorgeous!
This competition does run very smooth and pretty close to on schedule. You really don\'t have backstage workers running things, you just know when it\'s your time to go. This competition claims to be an \"All inclusive performing arts event\". It features vocal, acting, dance, and production performances so it does run long and very late at night. There were young children performing up to 11:30pm each night. Even though this competition claims to be a \"Dance Competition\", it really isn\'t. They do include lots of dances, but none are really judged on technical skills. The dance acts I saw that were very technical and well rehearsed didn\'t score well at this competition, but were scored really low. The acts that really scored well with these judges were the acts that were \"Flashy\" with large props and costumes, more of a \"Crowd Pleasing\" performance but really were not technical and pretty sloppy performances. I also noticed a few studios would combine their elite and non-elite students together, place their acts in the intermediate category, but feature the elite students during most of the performance and these seem to score very well by the judges. So just know, if you attend this competition, know it is more of an entertaining show than a legitimate competition. I also saw one of the judges score sheets, and it really only has check-boxes on it with a box at the bottom for a score. It looks like the judges just randomly pick a number from 1-100 and put it on the sheet for the score. No individual points for different categories that are added up, but just 1 score box. I also noticed the judges spent a lot of time looking down or talking to one another. Kind of hard to judge a competition if you\'re not looking at the performance.
Had a great time. Very well run event, will come back again.
Well run and the judging and critiques were very good helpful. We had a great time at Access Broadway!
Very solid competition. Liked it and would definitely go back.
Had a great time, kids thought it was awesome.
Great comp! Very long but still worth attending. I like how the overall winner in each division gets their moment to dance it out with the check and give a speech. It\'s more personable and meaningful to the child or group that worked so hard, rather than the usual brisk \"what\'s your name and the name of your studio?\" The competition is positive and full of energy (and since it\'s usually a 3 day event, the kids and parents need energy too.) I would recommend this competition as. It was overall a great experience!
WE had a lot of fun! Kept things moving and was fair!
We attended a convention in Charlotte a few years ago and loved it!
GREAT COMPETITION
Can I give ten stars? Love this competition and the workshops. So much fun.
The kids do have fun at this competition and the associated workshops. However, it runs late with our team dancing one of their routines at 11:30 at night. The awards ceremony is waaay too long. Music is played between announcing each award, top score winners are told to give speeches, Ron takes pictures with his personal camera of the winners with a giant check. The stage isn\'t raised at regionals, just laid across the hotel room floor. The vendors are Ron\'s parents, who while very nice, only accept cash or checks.
One of my top, three, favorite competitions. They do some things the old way, and that\'s fine. I don\'t mind that it\'s not on a stage, my kids loved dancing right in front of the judges and they make it fun and fair. The workshops are our favorite.
Very nice competition my daughter had fun. Would do it again
We felt they were somewhat dated but solid. Would try it again some time.
I love this competition. They are fair and well rounded. I do wish they changed up their staff more often just for freshness, but the staff they have is stellar and personable! I\'ve moved and wish they came down south more.
No stage
Great competition! Been competing here for 7 years...Very professional presentation although scoring can seem a little biased.
So much fun!
Love it! Love the triple threat experience: you can act, sing and dance. Fairly judged. My daughter always enjoyed the workshops as well.
