It had good staff and flowed smoothly. The judges seems to like tap dancers. It seemed as though many top placement awards were given to tappers. At Nationals, is it true you have to purchase tickets at $50/ticket to receive overall awards? I have never heard of that. Typical adjudication awards are given and overalls are announced soon after but my understanding is you have to pay an additional $50 to find out if your dancer and teammates placed in overalls.
Hello and thank you for your comments. We do value tap dancers and we always make sure that our judges are knowledgeable about tap and all genres and how to judge it. In regards to the $ 50/ticket that is for the awards gala which is a sit down dinner which is followed by a performance which features guest artists and then the awards begin after the performance. It is not required to attend the gala dinner and performance as we open the doors to everyone after the performance so they can be there for the awards presentations. The Gala dinner and performance is a special event where the students dress nicely and enjoy the sit down dinner and performance before the awards begins. The awards ceremony is free for all to attend and there is no charge for that.
Very glad that our studio is not going back to this Competition. Very biased judging. Emcee would read off adjudications from list and score sheets showed something completely different. New title interview portion is really lame.

It was ok, but judging seemed bias. For instance, there was hip hop judge who was judging lyrical/contemporary. Couldn't help but notice that he would be bopping to every hip hop performance, and those performances seemed to score higher.
This was our first time doing Shake the Ground. Overall I felt like Shake the Ground was a great competition. It was their biggest competition they have had to date which did make for long days, but everything was run very smoothly. They have mini master classes before the awards which makes it fun for the dancers, There were also some nice scholarship opportunities available.
Judging was fair, awards went smoothly my only complaint is that they were ahead by an hour! but better ahead than late.
Critiques were very bad. Judging seemed bias.
great comp with lots of talented dancers!
The competition had great talent. The stage was small. The judging often appeared biased which is unacceptable. The staff is very easy going and seems to really enjoy what they do. They stayed about an hour or two ahead of schedule which was great.
Amazing experience for both my daughter and myself. Felt welcomed for the moment we arrived. The entire staff was very professional. M/Cs were full of energy and my daughter really enjoyed the master classes. Looking forward to the next STG Competition.
Amazing competition! The staff was very professional in assisting us with all our questions and truly appreciated how efficient everything was run with the routines on time. My daughter loved the master classes and her interaction with the judges during these classes. What a great experience, can\'t wait for next year!!
I never rate any experience that I have had. But I had to rate this competition. I have attended thousands of competitions since both of my daughters are in dance. And this has been \"the worst\" competition we have attended. The staff is nice. But they do not have enough experience, the judges clearly don\'t know how to judge. They do not even ask the dancers for the name of the studio they dance at or who choreographed their routine. I was very disappointed, very.
This was a very exciting & unique experience! We had so much fun throughout the entire experience!
Great competition for smaller studios. Staff is fantastic!
Shake th ground was overall awesome!!!

One of the best competitions out there! Judging is tough but fair. Too many competitions just give everyone Platinum. At Shake the Ground you have to earn it!!! Can\'t expect every routine to get the highest score. It is refreshing to see a competition that cares about the dancers and their growth. Free Masterclasses are a great touch and the parents sure appreciate the scholarships to the summer sessions. We will be back next year for sure. Our 1st choice is Shake the Ground! :)
Love this comp! They are well organized, their judges give excellent feedback.
Great Competition Shake the Ground! You get better every year. Can\'t wait till the Nationals!!!!

My daughters competed at Shake The Ground a few weeks ago. Their routines did great! And my girls had a blast! The owner of the competition greets you at the registration when you arrive, and the lovely girls on staff escort you to the dressing rooms. (No other competition does that!) The judging was tough, but very fair! (I\'d rather it be tough and on point than everyone getting platinums across the board!) They have Peter Sabasino from SYTYCD as their host... and he is GREAT!!! He makes everything so fun, and occasionally he got up to dance a little himself! The whole day at Shake The Ground was just a great show! They also do a parents\' dance off during some of the judges breaks, and the winner gets a t-shirt and some other prizes! My husband did it!!! It was so fun! They also give amazing trophies, and have unbelievable scholarship opportunities for the competitors. My 8 year old won a special \"judges\" award, and my oldest won a scholarship to a summer intensive at the Joffrey Ballet School. Long story short, we loved it! And will definitely be back next season!
Love Love Love!!! Shake The Ground is BY FAR the best competition we have ever been to! Staff is so helpful, and so friendly. The competition was so well organized, and ended both Saturday and Sunday earlier than scheduled. My students also said that Shake The Ground was their favorite competition they have ever done!!! And we compete a lot! :) If you\'re looking for a competition to go to, THIS IS IT! :) Can\'t wait for Nationals!!! Thank you Shake The Ground!!!!
Went to Shake the Ground\'s Miramar competition. It was an amazing competition. This was our first time there and it was by far the best run competition in Florida. Lissette and the staff are so nice and escort you to the dressing rooms. Yes the judging is tough and it is only the dancers that deserve the platinum award that get it. The scholarships are amazing and the competition finished ahead of schedule. For sure we will be back next year. Keep up the good work Shake the Ground. You are one of the best competitions!!!!!
Wow, some of these reviews are really harsh. They DO judge really hard, but that\'s a GOOD thing. Every other competition I go to gives away platinums and have a million ties for the overall adjudications. What other competition gives away the scholarships that they give? It\'s also their third year. Give them a break, no business starts off 100% perfect!
We throughly enjoyed this competition in its first year. Very sweet staff, and I love how the competition is run, announcing the adjudication a few dances after performing, and including a Master Class before awards. They definitely judge on the harder side, which I think is great for dancers. Everything can\'t get a Platinum, and I think they definitely put a value on that, which gives the dancers something to work for. I was not so happy with the event last season. We did not attend this year, but I would consider giving it another try, as they do give out great scholarships for dancers, and it is only their 2nd year.
Very disappointing competition. While staff were friendly, the judging was not. The common score was Gold. Dancers who typically score Platinums were receiving Gold awards left and right. High Silver awards were given as well, quite frequently. Again, dances that scored Platinum awards at our last competition were receiving High Silvers. It seemed as though certain studios were favored. It was apparent that judges were mingling with studio staff and students in between dances. While dancers were performing, judges were seen (by several dancers and parents) eating, on their cell phones and one judge was even putting on blush during a performance she was supposedly judging. Not very professional, or respectful in my opinion, and was very hurtful to our dancers. Several awards, judges awards, and scholarships were given out, however the majority went to the overall, high score winners. Not much variety. Our dancers left this completion very disappointed and hurt by the complete disrespect of the judges and the very harsh, unfair scoring. We will not be returning.
Staff extremely friendly and nice. Very well organized. I wish I could say we\'d be coming back but judging was extremely harsh. Girls that\'s hadnt received Gold for years received Gold here. Majority of dancers received Gold, which in comparison to other competitions is commonly the lowest used. Here silver was given. It was crushing to many girls, I saw several girls from several studios crying. They work so hard all year and most only go to a few competitions a year and to be judged so harshly was really disappointing. As a business I would think a company would want it\'s dancers and studios to feel good about themselves and be excited to compete and come back. Everyone I have talked does not want to come back because of the judges scoring.
This is a great competition in the state of Florida. They offer scholarships in addition to trophies that really benefit the dancer. I really like that they announce adjudicated awards only a few dancers after you are done. You don\'t have to wait for the official awards ceremony. They have a fun master class during the competition. The only thing that could be done better is the voting for the national winners online. This could be perceived as a popularity contest as you have to win with most votes.
This is the best competition in Florida. The staff is very professional and friendly. The competition is extremely well organized. Not sure why you would rate a one star just because one competition is late. Sometimes that will happen but they are so professional and the competition is fair and the judges are great and give helpful advice. The trophies are beautiful and this competition is unique in that they give scholarships to great ballet and dance summer intensives. Joffrey Ballet school and Sarasota Ballet school just to name a few. They really care about the helping the dancers to grow their dance by offering the scholarships. My daughter went to Sarasota last year on a full scholarship and loved it. She wouldn\'t have gone if it wasn\'t for Shake the Ground. They also do a free masterclass at every competition which the kids love and the parents also enjoy watching. Can\'t wait to go back and we love Shake the Ground!!!!
.
Love this competition from the personnel to the assigned dressing rooms, the judges critiques are very helpful. It\'s not the same critique for every dancer. Looking forward to attending again
We adored Shake the Ground. Loved the judges critiques, very fun atmosphere at awards - they even had a surprise engagement! Two little critiques from me though. 1 - I feel the adjudication should vary a little more. If you weren\'t one of the few numbers who got a platinum, you got a high gold. Period. I understand wanting everyone to feel good, but it really doesn\'t help you know how you did when EVERYONE gets the same medal. Secondly, and most important - PLEASE USE A NEW VIDEOGRAPHER. The one you had this year was terrible. The start of a few of our group numbers were cut off so those videos were worthless to us, and whenever any fast tricks were done (aerials, flips, cartwheels) the video goes pixely in the areas where the kids are moving quickly like the video quality can\'t keep up. Also every single video you recorded, the audio is out of sync with the video so unless the studio has a tech person that can split the audio track and re-sync it, the videos look ridiculous. It also doesn\'t help that these are the videos that are uploaded for your national finals....how can people vote when they can\'t even see how the dance was supposed to be done because the music is so far ahead? I know that isn\'t really the fault of the competition itself which is why I\'ll give 4 stars (because the rest of it was so fantastic), but seriously whoever they got to video tape needs a negative star review. Hire someone else next year if you can ;)
Very unorganized! Ran behind by over an hour. Numerous technical issues with sound and lighting, pictures, video. Worst competition our dance company has attended. We will not be returning.
