After being told in writing that studios would receive a full refund of the entry fees they paid, VIP went back on their word and refused refunds to anyone except graduated seniors.

They favor the big studios.
Absolutely LOVE VIP. This is a must for our studio each year and if we can we so 2 VIP comps. Cant wait to go back this year. The judges are great and rememeber the dancers and remark on what they have or have not improved on each year
Have had very mixed experiences at this event.
Great Competition for our area of the Midwest. Just keep in mind their age brackets are a little different from most competitions. Overall great competition. My favorite part is when they announce the top 10 groups of the weekend.
Just attended this event and cannot say how awesome our experience was! We were a late entry and from registration to competition everyone was outstanding and helpful. The entire staff from Lauren in the office to the sweet comp director to Thomas the MC, Jacqueline backstage and the video/pic guys, all were more than friendly and accommodating. We only brought some solos and duet to try it out and I will make sure that VIP is one of our full company stops next year! Cannot wait to go back! Thank you so much for a great event!
Just OK. Too crowded.
We LOVE VIP. Looking forward to attending again this year.
We attended VIP nationals in Orlando. We had a good time, I felt the judging was fair and even across the entire event. My only issue was the cardboard plaques for the awards. They did not even say nationals on them, they were the same cardboard plaques as regionals. NO trophies not even at nationals :( Sad!!
Very Disappointed in this competition. We attended this competition in East Brunswick, NJ. My daughters dance at a small school and the judges were clearly biased to the larger studios. When we registered we were required to send in a deposit to hold our studio\'s place since it was \"almost sold out\" - needless to say there was a very large studio entered at the last minute that didn\'t even make the program. Their numbers were not even listed in the program so you couldn\'t even tell what you were competing against. In addition, they allowed the larger studios to run out of order and take more than 30 seconds to set up their props throughout the entire weekend. There were no trophies handed out, just a lanyard for the girls. Placement wins were a cardboard board. Numbers received one pin for the studio and there were no giveaways for the dancers. The awards were repetitive so the same numbers received all the Judges, Top 10s, Top in Genre, etc....very disappointing weekend.
Great judging, competition awards ran smoothly, good venue. Always one of our favorite competitions.
Average
My daughter\'s studio did convention and competition with VIP. We could not have been happier with the sweet staff that made all the girls feel special. Convention was amazing and great feedback from the executive directors and judges. It made the girls feel comfortable going into the competition. Judges reviews were positive and helpful. Competition ran ahead of schedule. Awards were fun and swift. Overall fun and happy feeling from all involved with this competition. Can\'t wait to go back in the future. Venue got 4 stars because there are few food options around which makes for a LONG weekend, not VIP\'s fault though.
It was an awful experience! My daughter attended the competition from a relatively smaller studio and placed overall top 10, however, she definitely could have gotten a higher place. Some routines had a lot of mistakes and still made the top ten. The judging was VERY biased towards the BIGGER studios that brought a lot of routines, not to mention most of the awards went to BIG studios. I sat there through most of the routines and the many of the overall top ten teen soloists had noticeably big mistakes, including doing an aerial with very crooked legs and almost falling. I decided to sign up for the competition because the reviews were good but I am very displeased with the judges and how biased it was. Also, not to mention we paid a lot of money but only got mere neck tags and a piece of cardboard. If we are going to pay that much at least provide the dancers to take something nice back home. We are not going back to VIP for sure. not fair!
I don\'t know an Amber from TX 2 reviews down from me, but she just reviewed everything I wanted to say! With the date/state being equivalent to ours, I can only assume she attended the same event as us! Unfortunately, the event was AWFUL! This was supposed to be a fun optional event for my students, to kick start the Spring Break weekend. We brought only a few routines and spent around $3500+! I was highly disappointed with the event and so were my student/parents! ONE: With the amount of money we spend to attend, the least the competitions can do is provide each student with something nice to take home. This competition gave the kids lanyards, the least they could had done was also give them each the pins to put around it! And what the world are teachers supposed to do with these pieces of cardboard, spend the extra money to frame them ourselves?! It was very disappointing! :( TWO: Please try to get three judges who like three different styles of dance! The judging seemed very one sided as they all clearly favored the same style plus it seemed rigged! The routines winning had so many mistakes that you didn\'t even expect them to be in the Top 10 overalls and the same studios (of course the largest studios at the event) kept winning everything but they had plenty of mistakes in and within themselves, favoritism much?! THREE: The male judge was rude! He never smiled and seemed annoyed! These are children on the stage dancing and you chose to judge, be respectful and not an ass to the point that my kids and other studio kids are walking off stage saying you looked like you hated them! FOUR: Learn to be more fair! Why give out special awards if your goal is to just give them all to the large studio who brought the most routines?! Let me point out that we won overalls at this event so I am not trying to be a sore loser, but I saw many routines (not even mine) who deserved top placements and they didn’t get it over routines that had many flaws. We simply won’t be back.
We have done three regionals and a national with VIP. We are not a huge studio. But I think the judging was fair. There were a couple of big studios that were incredible. I watch as many dances as possible. I didn\'t see anything that I would question about the judges results. And we did not win much. I appreciate that. Who wants an award for showing up? My kid is a tap soloist. We look forward to VIP because it is one of the few competitions that has consistently had judges who understood tap. The critiques show it. Thanks much for that! My only beef, and it\'s tiny, is that they do best of the best, VIP list, high score based on category, etc.. After a while, it gets confusing and redundant. I write down everything at awards. There is probably a genre overall or two that you could skip. Overall, I consider it one of the best out there.
Just got back from a regional competition. It is THE WORST dance competition! I don\'t understand why there are so many positive reviews. The biased judging is so obvious that it was jaw dropping! The worst dancers got in the top 10 and the best ones all got nothing. But after seeing all the winners who got in the top ten, we figured out the reason. They are all from two big studios. One top ten soloist danced so badly that it was embarrassing. The cardboard plaques are so cheap looking that we thought we were in an elementary school\'s perfect attendance award ceremony. We don\'t understand how this competition could last this long.
Love VIP. We have been attending for about 5 years, we come from a small studio and have always been treated fairly. This year we only brought a few solos/duets. The competition ran on time, very organized. Judging seemed spot on. The critiques were very helpful, lots of positive feedback and good constructive criticism. The convention was also wonderful. Great teachers, lots of positive comments were given to the students.
Mixed feelings about VIP. Really loved their regionals in Orlando. Felt scoring was pretty fair, loved our comments (helpful) and they matched with the scores given. Pictures were amazing and cheap and we left VIP with such a good feeling we decided to pick them for our nationals this year. HUGE mistake. Nationals was absolutely terrible. Favortism was definitely given to big studios. We didn\'t even get the provided free program because we were told we didn\'t bring enough money in entry fees to quaalify for one and needed to pay $15 if we wanted one which is absurd. We knew which students were getting scholarships from the convention before they even auditioned because the teachers knew them all by name and continually used them to demonstrate moves. Lastly our comments did not reflect the scores given AT ALL. The one male judge spent the entire 3 minutes of my one soloists routine telling her how much he loved her dancing, how great she was and basically how much he loved the dance. He gave her not ONE correction or note the entire time. Then he scored her in the high gold range. ??? I am not the type of teacher that needs my kids to always get platinum or anything like that. Far from it. But if you are going to give them a high gold score, you need to back it up and tell me why they are getting that score. For what reason did you dock those 10-30 points? Don\'t give me a score that says she needs work, and then spend your whole 3 minute critique talking about how wonderful she is, how beautifully she danced and how much you loved the number. All that does is feed the notion that the scores were assigned based on your studio, not how well the dancers actually did. If we ever went back it would be to a regionals ONLY.
My girls had fun at this one. We recommend VIP!
Not my favorite. Judges were partial to very large studios and only seemed to place lyrical and contemporary. No awards given, even for solos unless you were the top placing. Even then it was a printed paper on cardboard.. They say money goes to a charity instead. The floor at our venue was extremely slippery and even when asked to address it, it was not.
Fellow dancers said that this was a favorite competition! Our studio did very well here! :)
This is a fun competition and the kids all love the awards given because they are so unique. The competition ran on time and was well organized.
Wonderful competition. Everyone was friendly and well organized. The quality of the competition was superior! Would definitely go back.
Fun! Fun! Fun! First time we went was this year. Well organized! Backstage crew was very nice to girls. Award ceremony was fun and did drag on! Very upbeat competition!
We attended this competition for the first time last year. It seemed a bit unorganized but I think that had to do with bad weather and not all of their staff being there. It was a good experience and I would attend again.
This was a nice, smaller competition for us. We are not a mega studio and I found the one day format refreshing. We had a bit of an issue with one of our routines and they were more than accomdating. The awards were cheesy, but fun. Judging felt a little inconsistent, but not terrible. Merchandise and photo options were good. The venue was NOT. The stage was WAY too small. Also, food options are always nice to have. I would give it 4 stars overall if the venue would have been a little better.
Enjoy VIP! But was not happy with the Orlando Nationals!!
Very diappointed in the rating and judges comments from VIP for this event. Awards were interesting and the people judging were just as interesting. Venue was too warm and girls were getting sick.
Can\'t always attend this one as it conflicts with our nationals regional every few years but when we do we ate always glad we did. Great competition. The most qualified judges- truly a top tier organization. Love the critiques. Love the awards. Love that petite are 9 and under. Always on time. Seems to enforce rules consistently.
Love this one! Fun, judging seemed mostly fair and kids enjoyed it.
This company is so professionally run. I enjoy taking my students to a competition that focuses on technique even for the younger dancers. Thanks for the positive experiences with both the competition and convention circuit.
This is a hard competition to rate. It is the first time this competition has been to our state, and I don\'t think a lot of studios were familiar with it. It also happened to be on a weekend at least 2 other comps were going on in our area. So It was unfortunate that there were not more dance schools present to compete against. Thru no fault of the competition...a few of the schools we had competed against we had already competed against at other comps. This competition for our school really seemed to be a competition amongst each other. Which as interesting and kind of fun. Pros: It ran pretty much on time, the awards ceremony was not overly long. It was nice for the girls to get something besides trophies and the girls really seemed to like the lanyards. I love love love thier website where the photo\'s are separated out by dance school. That was so easy to manouver through. Cons: Only that this competition is new to us, so not enough studio\'s knew about it, or maybe didn\'t want to chance something new. I am glad we went to it.
Not my favorite. No trophies, not even for solos.
Back ground - this is our second regional with VIP. We are not a large or advanced studio. Pros - well run, super organized and on time or early. Awards are not too long. I\'m going to have to disagree about judging. Our hip hop group was judged fairly, our duo placed well, another studios placed even higher and got a judge\'s choice. My kid is a tapper. I think they knew and respected tap. Very few comps do. I like the no trophys, less to dust. Cons - same as last year, the venue is the worst one we see all season. Small, dirty, badly maintained, always out of order toilets. There are many, many better venues in the area, please book one. You will not get five stars from me unless you relocate. This year, solos started at 1:00 on Friday and last awards were Sunday at 10:00 PM. This is not school friendly. Stop over booking and respect our dancers first priority, school.
Wouldn\'t want to do this competition again, unless there were some qualified judges there that judged fairly and not on who they knew. Really sad when some studios you know should have gotten the award, and another studio won it because they have been going to them for the past few years. This competition only likes contemporary and lyrical. Jazz, hip hop and tap are not an option.
The schedule was horrible. If a dancer \"looked\" like a dancer, they immediately got top awards unless they really messed up. If the dancer doesn\'t \"look\" like a dancer, they really have to dance impressively to get the top awards. Example: a dancer that looks like a dancer can have no facials and not get dinged for it. A dancer that doesn\'t look like a dancer gets really dinged for not having good facials. It was like that for technique and turns as well, the dancers that looked the part could have flaws in technique and not get dinged.
Even with bad weather (lots and lots of ice) this competition ran relatively smoothly. I am not a fan of the plastic cards and lanyards but the kids really seemed to like them. The staff was really helpful and friendly. Did not agree with some of the award placements and some acts clearly were in the wrong levels but that seems to be the norm rather than the exception.
This was our first season going to VIP and it was a great experience! The judges were fair, everything was on time, and the back stage director was always helpful! We will definitely return!!
We attended Pensacola this past weekend. We had a great time! very judging and great critique\'s. A lot of great talents, that we really enjoyed sharing the stage with!!
WE attended for the firs time this year. My daughter loved the lanyards. Competition ran on time. Loved all the judges and dance division awards. Great experience.
My dancers attended VIP in Chicago, IL. Great venue, friendly staff, and wonderful judges\' critiques. Love the lanyards and the red carpet. Long hours, but we will definitely be back!
We have been to VIP for two years now and I personally think it has gotten worse. The plaques the girls are cardboard, very cheap looking..the announcers are boring and don\'t make make it entertaining. Very disappointed this year.
We have been to VIP every year for 5 or 6 years now. Each year, I like it a little less. It\'s HUGE now - and it seems like they are getting a little greedy with the entries. What was a 1 1/2 day competition a couple of years ago is now 3 full days. I cannot continue to support a competition that starts on a Friday at 8 a.m. I\'m very disappointed that they don\'t place school and the jobs parents need to pay for these things ahead of squeezing in a few more entries. My other critique is that they are not super friendly in terms of social media. I am a firm believer in businesses using that and they don\'t. Positives: Ran early all weekend, critiques were VERY helpful, very clear, easy to hear. I\'m not sure we\'ll be back due to the Friday morning starts, but it is a fun competition.
We like to attend VIP because it always offers convention classes in connection with the competition. I am not a fan of competitions that do not also offer educational classes at least one of the days. This years event was slightly disappointing to me in terms of judging. Specifically, I felt as if age inappropriateness was rewarded. There were young children dancing very suggestively in extremely skimpy costumes who were also lip singing sexual lyrics. These particular dances were rewarded with Platinums and as overall winners. I would think a large number of points should have been deducted simply for the age inappropriateness.
VIP is a good competition. They are organized and run timely and smoothly. Their critiques from the judges are helpful and constructive. The only complaint I have is the age inappropriateness of some of the numbers who win the competition.
I like VIP. Fair judging and exciting atmosphere. Lanyards are cool.
If you are not a LARGE studio save your entry fee\'s. Beautiful Venue selected but the staff is so mechanical and business oriented the competition is less than a positive experience. Heads up on Awards.... you get cardboard paper and a lanyard (something I purchase for my recital parents). ONLY large studio\'s win specials even if your routines are in High point overalls.
Looking forward to this one this year; last year was very well run. I really liked the lanyard idea. I dislike trophies, but that\'s me. Judging was fair and they seemed to be well rounded in all genres.
This is our third year doing VIP regionals. I like the awards ceremony as they make it fun with the red carpet, but keep it concise. The judging overall I think is fair. The judges critiques were lacking this time around. One judge only made one performance based comment during my daughter\'s solo performance. The staff is always very friendly, especially Christie Sirota. (not sure if I spelled her name correctly)
We love this competition. We have been going to VIP for 3 years now and have enjoyed every second of it. My parents love how organized and professional this competition is! I also adore the fact that they donate back to charities instead of giving out trophies. This solidifies my message to my students that trophies don\'t matter, it\'s the lessons you learn along the way that really matter. We will be attending next season as well. Great job, VIP! : )
We\'ve gone to this competition several years in Kansas City and have loved it. The staff is great and the environment is very energetic!
'Review has been locked' - Disputed
Very poorly ran competition. Even when things were brought up to the directors, there were no apologies or trying to fix the problem.
Not a fan. Awards were cheap and unimpressive. Too much money paid in for little plastic cards to hang on a lanyard as a take away for the dancers. The awards table was not polished. A few simple improvements could make this competition much better.
VIP does a great job of staying on track and keeping everything very professional. They also have the best photographers, and I really like the dance dvd quality as well. My daughter has competed at both Regional and National competitions with this competition. They have great convention classes and a fun wrap party at Nationals.
VIP was a good competition, but there was no excitement. We attended the St. Louis competition and our dancers are beginners. They felt that they were not important at all to the competition. We had to dress in a tiny make-shift dressing room because we were a smaller studio. Did not like the awards at all. The kids did well, but they didn\'t feel there was any excitement. Will not attend again. On a positive note, the judging was fair and they were on-time and organized.
Love VIP. Always on time, great judging, get something different then trophies which are just dust collectors.
Really liked this one! It\'s always a gamble trying a newer comp but they seemed to have it down. Stayed on schedule and the kids had fun. Judges comments were good as well.
We attended this competition for the first time this year and I was very impressed. They stayed pretty much to the original schedule which was very good considering it was 4 days long. The staff was very nice and our team overall had a good time.
This is a nice competition however their. Video DVD quality was very poor, they did attempt. To make it right and redo my DVD. I found the judging to be very fair with useful critiques
So sorry about that! We have purchased all new video cameras for next season and they are AMAZING! We want to offer the best quality photos and videos possible and we are working hard to make sure that happens in 2015.
Kids loved it, but were a little disappointed they received no trophies
Fun fun fun!! This competition was well organized, fairly scored with amazing judges. Only thing was the floor was a little odd! A bit hard to turn on, but other than that, great!
first time there, really liked it. backstage area was way too small. wish they would come to Columbus, OH. we had to drive to Dayton. liked that the judges were tough. didn\'t really like the lanyards with cards, kind of weird, would have preferred a pin for groups and solos. did like the banner we got for the studio.
First year of comp and we had fun. Ran ahead like most. Daughter had fun on stage during awards.
Started off as a good competition but then they seemed to only bring in judges with a contemporary background and that was all they loved
Thanks for your comment. We work very hard to bring in 3 judges with diverse strengths and backgrounds at each event. Sometimes contemporary does come out on top, but it would never be awarded simply because it was contemporary. It must also contain strong technique, great performance, and excellent choreography. If the majority of routines that exemplify all of those qualities happen to be in the contemporary category, then yes, they will win. But we never \"favor\" contemporary dances. In all honesty, we do wish to see more variety. The routines that are well done (choreographically for the dancers), clean, and DIFFERENT are the ones that will stand out and place on top. Classic Jazz, Musical Theatre, Tap... yes, yes, yes! Be great, be unique, and bring it!!!
Not a huge fan of this competition. It was sad to see students who clearly are in a higher level compete in a lower level. It is frustrating to the dancers and parents (and of course teachers) to have this happen. I wish there were more backstage staff…there was coaching happening from the side of the stage, but no one for us to notify that it was happening. Ironically, this particular group won the overall. It does no good to complain after the fact, but hopefully they will add extra staff to the backstage area!
Thanks for your comments. Leveling is hard thing for teachers to handle from competition to competition because the rules and level regulations at each competition company are different. We are taking several measures as we move into the 2015 season to better assist teachers with their level placements at VIP as it is our goal to have each routine properly placed in order to compete with others at their level. We do have 1 to 2 backstage managers in every city in addition to a director \"making rounds\" as well. We definitely discourage and prevent any coaching from the wings. I do apologize if we missed one in your city as I am sure that may happen from time to time... but I will pass this along to my staff and make sure to keep them on their toes!
Competition was good.
i enjoyed this
Love the lanyards however I think special awards and overall awards should be nicer.
Last year, we awarded medal pins for the special and high score awards that were placed on the studio banners (each studio receives a silk embroidered VIP studio banner at check-in). For the 2015 season, we are changing the special awards and high score awards to be \"platinum record\" awards as we had for our judges choice awards last year.
Fair judging, love the lanyards, like the dancers bow during awards, well organized Do some research on what level you compete at. There is a lot of wiggle room in there. Also, VIP, please consider changing your SE MI venue. It is too small. The cafeteria is the dressing room therefore there is little room for others to be or dances to run. Don\'t get me started on the state of the bathrooms. If you are going to have a three day, all day event, please consider a venue more appropriate. There are plenty in the area.
Very disappointed. We had a long travel time and many soloists were put on Thursday. This was unacceptable for our studio. School comes first. They advertised a 3 day competition and over-sold it making it a 4 day event. Our dancers were able to be put in, however, not eligible for high scores. The photographers were also unable to find 3 sets of photos that just so happened to be the same ones.
So sorry you were disappointed in your experience with us. We are keeping all events at 3 days in the upcoming 2015 season. Thank you for your comments.
We attend VIP every year and really enjoy it. We have been going to this competition for many years. No complaints here!!
Our girls loved the fact that they were treated with respect. They also loved getting the cards and lanyards. It was a great experience.
Our studio attended the competition in Kannapolis, NC. GREAT competition!!! The consistent judging was GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!! The staff was super nice. The whole experience was very positive!
Don\'t see why people like this one. Their judging is very strict (giving few platinums). They give better awards to huge studios. Give inappropriate dances 1st. Their stupid peaces of plastic they give for regular awards is stupid. Only thing i like is how they give out top 10 in the whole competition.
VIP continues to be one of my favorite competitions. The scoring seems fair, most of the feedback is helpful (there\'s always one judge ;)) They run on time or early. But I do have a few issues: #1 - communication is HORRIBLE. They have a very poor social media presence. They need to answer ALL messages, good and bad. It reflects poorly on them when they ignore negative feedback. Communication with studios needs to be better as well. Owners had a lot of trouble finding our vital information. #2 - it\'s getting really big. Two years ago, the STL competition was one day. Last year it was 1.5 This year it was THREE days. Open a second weekend, or cut it off. They lost four of our senior entries because they scheduled numbers on a school day. Still...it\'s a fun competition and we will be back.
Have gone to the one in Birmingham the for the last three years. Love the convention classes. This was my daughter\'s first year doing them, and she was really pleased. The comp is organized and runs on schedule. While the Alabama Theater is historic, the backstage dressing rooms are hard to manage. It\'s three floors of them with no elevators. So if you have a lot of stuff, you are in trouble. I hate the Judges\' Choice awards. They are too random, and really don\'t make a lot of sense, even when they are explaining why they are giving them out. This comp likes a lot of flash, a lot of tricks, today\'s popular music and trends. If your studio is more old school, this may not be for you. Also, this comp rewards the big studios that bring a zillion dances. I was really disappointed in how they recognized several dances that were totally inappropriate for dancers under the age 18 to do. There is no way teens should be on stage dancing in 6 inch stiletto heels (stripper shoes) beside twerking 5-6 year olds wearing blinged triangle bra tops and animal print leggings. I was shocked, and even more shocked that it placed. I\'m sure we will go back. This is our only out of town comp, and we like the city. But we learned not to except much love and recognition for our girls because they don\'t do what everyone is doing. And it\'s OK. They know what to expect.
Judging seemed fair, organization at convention and competition was pretty good... My 2 major issues are... I never received scoring, how do I know what needs to be fixed... And the awards were a joke considering the entry fee(a lanyard with a card stating platinum, gold etc). May or may not go back.
VIP is professionally run. We go every year. I love how the staff is helpful, receptive to feedback, and ahead of the times with technology. Their video critiques are helpful, you can submit music online, and their website is well-done. My only criticism is that they keep giving the same plaques every year and just updating the year on them. My studio is overrun with VIP plaques (and they\'re kind of boring in my opinion!)
Thanks for your review and comments! We are updating our awards more frequently now. 2015 will be the best yet! ;-)
So organized, professional, very fair and everyone is treated like family. Awards are fun and entertaining.
FUN, FAIR AND ORGANIZED!!!..............YES!
Great competition! Love the awards!
Always a favorite to attend. The lanyards are fun and a great idea! Fair judging, organized, friendly staff.
Loved The Lanyards, Fun, Fair And The Comp Was organized
Our team has such a great time at this competition.
Gets better every year! Like their feedback and encouragement. Always enjoy their "top 10"!
Great competition, loved the awards and lanyards.
What a great competition. Always runs on time, kids love to dance at this one. Energy is always high and fun and we love being there.
We entered this competition in Dayton. We had to travel to stay. It was very organized. All the staff wasnice. The pictures were amazing. The judges were very nice and helpful with their critques. Overall very pleased.
Just okay. Nothing fabulous to write about, but really can\'t complain either.
Thanks for your review. We are always looking for ways to improve. If you (or anyone out there reading this) have any suggestions for us, please send them to vipdance@mac.com.
VIP is my all time favorite competition. My duet partner and I attended this competition without our studio director or anyone else from our studio, and we felt so welcome by all the staff. From the moment we walked in, the staff was exceptional. Some competitions cater to big studios, but thsi competition made just the two of us (and our families) feel very welcome and at ease. The venue we were at was beautiful, and the dressing rooms were also great. The competition itself was very well-organized, ran smoothly and for the most part on time. The backstage staff knew my duet partner and I by name by the time the competition was halfway over and they were very personable and just super nice. If you had any questions, they didn\'t seem irritated or hurried like other backstage staff at other competitions. The judges were great, too. I recall they were dressed up nice for awards- I read another comment about jeans but don\'t remember them wearing jeans for my awards ceremony. Anyway, the way they do awards is just great. They set up a red carpet for the dancers to walk down, and have so many great awards- their website lists them. The plaques and trophies they give are of nice quality, too. Back to the judging- they have a videojudge type system, except instead of a video judge dvd, they send a flash drive in which you view your dances while listening to the judges critiques. The judges had a lot to say in the videos, a lot of great feedback! The competition does a lot of little things that make a big difference in the experience. We love VIP and wanted to go back in 2013 with our whole studio(we competed in May 2012)but unfortunately VIP does not travel to New York and my studio doesn\'t travel out of state! They really need a competition in New York. Not even the city, but anywhere- Syracuse and Albany and Buffalo are all popular NY locations if you go upstate a bit. Honestly, NY is a huge state- you guys should really come here! :( Anyway, all and all a fantastic competiton. I highly recommend it. Very professional, very fun-- you won\'t be let down by VIP!
Wow... thank you so much for taking the time to write this. We really appreciate it! And we are coming near you in 2015... to Utica, NY! Hope we will see you all there!
GREAT staff and tough, fair judging. Professional and LOVE the pics and video quality. One of my daughter\'s favorites.
we went to vip a few years back. it was not the positive experience you all are saying. we found them to show favoritism to certain schools who paid big dollars as well as witnessing the judges at a restaurant late one night hanging out with studio owners during their nationals at Kalahari. That was not appropriate at all. Also, the director wore jeans all the time on stage during awards. I felt that was very unprofessional. I don\'t know how it is now but we would never go back because of our experience with them. We were not the biggest school then, only a few thousand dollars in entries, but now our entries total over $15,000.00, so, their loss.
Nice competition. Judges were great. Love how every dancers receives a lanyard and badge for each dance they performed. The dancers love receiveing things. Definately a competition to go back to.
This competition is exceptionally well run. My studio has gone here for six years and every year they are friendly and helpful, they remember their customers, and they are constantly evolving and making their system better. You can electronically submit your music, do all your registration online, and they give video critiques. They are fair judging and really challenge my dancers to become the best they can be!
Hi Kelly... thank you for this review! We appreciate it! See you in 2015!
My favorite. Very professionally run. The levels are split, but I don\'t feel like the \"elite\" group gets all of the attention (like at other comps that split). They run on time (though sometimes very late). Communication is excellent. They answer emails from parents too. Editing to add that a few weeks after this rating, we attended another VIP. Again, one of my favorite competitions overall, but the judging here was terrible (by one in particular). He didn\'t watch anything but elite dances, he entered scores before dances were halfway finished. And his comments were beyond useless. VIP...train your judges.
