Review of That’s Entertainment Competition We have been attending That’s Entertainment for three years and have enjoyed every moment. Our dance school recently participated in a competition in Philadelphia, and we loved the experience! The competition is well-organized and runs on time, which is a significant plus. The awards ceremony is efficient, ensuring that it doesn't drag on for too long. One of the standout features is that all contestants leave with something, which fosters a positive atmosphere. Janine, the owner, is incredibly helpful and responsive, quickly addressing any issues that arise. Her commitment to ensuring a smooth experience for participants is commendable. Overall, attending That’s Entertainment is definitely worth it, and we look forward to continuing our participation in the future!

We have not competed nor had a dance team in the past 3 years. This was our 1st time back with all new dancers. That's Entertainment made it a GREAT experience for all. So personable and accommodating. We will be back!
Love it! They recognize each studio & give a lot of great awards. Nice staff. Only recommendation is to include detailed times in the competition schedule.
Pros: Competition gives out lots of awards, almost everyone from our studio left with some sort of award which was great especially for the little ones. Our studio happened to have a lot of good dances which the judges loved and we received a 6-foot trophy for our production routine which was awesome for everyone. Honestly, those are all of the pros... Cons: (get ready) 1. horrible and I mean HORRIBLE organization. They don't give you the time that your dance is supposed to go on they just give you the category time. So if your category's time slot is from 9 a.m-4 p.m you have to be ready to go the entire time. This is especially frustrating for me as a dancer because I didn't know what time I should get ready and when my next dance would be going onstage. The least they could do is give you a rough estimate 2. The awards were incredibly long. I sat through 3 awards ceremonies, all of which were at least 2 hours long. A lot of it is complete nonsense that has absolutely nothing to do with the dancing, such a waste of time 3. The venue they picked was absolutely horrible. I've been to plenty of dance competitions in Massachusetts, all of which have had wonderful venues. Why That's Entertainment would pick the venue we had was beyond me. The stage was about 10x7, the absolute smallest stage I had ever been on in my entire life. It was too small for my duet, let alone our 32 person production routine. We couldn't fit everyone on the stage. None of us felt like we did the best we could because we couldn't dance to our full potential with such a small stage. The rest of the school was dirty as well. 4. The staff was not helpful at all with trying to get people on stage. We were backstage waiting for our group dance to go on and they pulled us aside to do a studio interview when we had about a minute left before we were supposed to go onstage. All they care about is getting self promos for their terrible competition. They had no concern whatsoever for us getting onstage. For one of our routines, we found ourselves SPRINTING to the stage door because we were on next and no one had come to notify us like they do at other competitions. A little unnerving if you ask me. 5. Finally, (i could go on, but I won't) The Judges were not qualified whatsoever. When presenting their judge's awards, they had absolutely no idea what they were saying. "I really liked this dance because.....it was really good" wow. Thanks, genius. Also, they provide complimentary photos and videos. Awesome right? wrong. They told us that they would be released 2 weeks after our competition. We have just reached the 4-week mark, still no media. Also, thank god this was our last competition of the season because we never received our judge's critiques either, not that they would be very good anyway. I'm not even sure I want to see the pictures they took considering the staff members operating the cameras were looking at their phones the whole time while clicking the shutter button every so often. I don't think there will be anything special about those photos... if we ever receive them. The bottom line: Honestly has the potential to be a good competition but it just isn't yet. Maybe in a few years. Or after they read this review and get their S*** together. If you're thinking about booking this competition, just don't. Case closed.
Great competition, lots of energy!
I was not impressed as a mom. It was not very organized compared to other companies. Need to spend a little more money to make this more exciting for the kids.
This competition is wonderful! They have an awesome laser light show that starts the event. Very unique and something I have never seen before. They have an awesome stage set up, give many awards, and are family friendly. They also encourage sportsmanship among the studios. The staff is incredibly friendly and kind and their events run smoothly. Great feedback from the judges critiques and love how many special awards they give.
I thought I would take the time to review this competition since it's been a while since the last review was posted. First and foremost, this competition is serious one of the best around. Sure, maybe you can question their organization skills, the long awards, etc etc, but they are family friendly, age appropriate, and all about unity. They give out a lot of awards but honestly.... is that really such a bad thing?! I recommend this comp to everyone.

Very amateur dance competition. Poorly run and unorganized. The MC wastes too much time babbling and gets lost and confused easily. They take A LOT of judges breaks. They also always book hotels as the venue which we don't love. No stage, they just use the ballroom floor and put down Marley. They do give out a lot of awards, which makes the kids happy. W attended this competition about 5 or so times and the called it quits. Unfortunately i wouldn't recommend it.
This is a spectacular competition, and my studio and I love going to it every year. The judges give honest critiques. The only problem is that they take A LOT of breaks. Yeah, I get it, you get tired as well as the dancers, giving the same critiques all the time. But try to keep the competition moving along. One time we waited almost four hours for awards during one of the duet, trio and solo sessions, and all of them were in the middle of it, but we waited a long time.
The good: They keep things moving at a good clip - caveat-be prepared to go on early. The announcer is personable, lively and up beat, even at the end of the competition Judging appeared to be accurate Well organized assistants in the dressing room - you could hear your call backstage easily. They were nice and not impatient. The cons: Music is too loud. Painful and distorts. Dancers and parents both commented. Had to wear earplugs. This is a liability issue for the event-easy to fix. Have sound man do a quick sound level check with a dB meter. Awards announcer should have assistants ESTABLISH AISLES on the crowded stage for awards, instead of expecting kids to do it themselves. This is a SAFETY issue. Saw lots of dancers fall/stumble stepping over others to get awards. Sprains or breaks in the making...not what a dancer needs. Floor covering does NOT cover entire stage-slip hazard-it also confuses dancers spatially (per their report) and throws spacing for large group dances off. My dancer got knocked out of a double during a large group dance by another dancer because spacing was off. Adult/child boundaries - if age verification is needed, ask the studio director, not the young child. The announcer should have another off stage staff member track the accuracy of their work. The dancers should not have to tell the announcer that their number was not mentioned for scores. Older dancers may possible be able to self advocate-younger shyer ones will not, with the end result they do not receive their awards at all. The Lancaster Host Resort is a great venue. Large carpeted dressing rooms, pretty lobby, food table with nice selection available onsite. Probably best venue we've been at, way better than schools.
I originally wrote a mostly okay review of this comp when we attended in 2016. But we just competed at this comp again in 2017 and I had to remove the first one and replace it with a TOTALLY NEGATIVE review. What a complete mess!! Disorganized from the start. It was supposed to be a 2 day comp and a couple weeks before, they changed it to one day! We were never given actual times for any numbers ever. They went out of order. The music was messy. The marley didn't cover the whole stage. Decided the day of comp to not do photogenic. Judging seemed unbalanced. Awards were extremely disorganized. No teen high scores. Age is 13-18 to place. Big errors in awards in multiple categories were not caught or corrected until days after. Too late.
We love this competition, my daughter looks forward to competing here every year. The judging is always fair and they always give productive feedback to the dancers. We always have a great time, love the music and they always make everyone feel special. My daughter loves the party they always throw and the opportunity the children have is amazing.
We have been attending That\'s Entertainment for quite some time now and have always had a good time. The dancers love the pre-party before the award ceremony where they get to dance and have fun on stage with the DJ and some other staff members. The scoring has always seemed very fair with little to no Platinum Plus awards ever given. We like stiff competition like that and our dancers are always eager to achieve that top award since they know it\'s a huge challenge. Complaints: Sometimes they do go out of order trying to accommodate everyone so it gets a little confusing. Also, their placement trophies and ribbons are beautiful but in recent years, their adjudication trophies have been butterfly plaques and must say, we aren\'t a fan! Awkward to place in the studio and in effort to save money, I\'d say get rid of them!
This competition was amazing! We attended the Regionals event in Troy Michigan this year and everyone had a great time! The staff were really nice and the atmosphere was highly energetic! If you are looking for a modern and fun environment for you and your studio, check this competition out! Ask any studio who was there at the Troy event this year. Great job! We are going back to the Troy regionals in 2017 and the Ohio 2017 Nationals next year!
That\'s Entertainment is a competition that does not cater to the biggest studio. Every studio has a chance and the scoring is on point. Some of the best critiques we have ever gotten. As a teacher I look at the scoring and the critiques not the fluff. If they ran out of programs I personally could care less. All that is not what competitions are about. Its about the kids getting educated and they do that here. The owners are down to earth and want the kids to have fun! Sometimes they experience technical glitches but so does everyone else. I have been to the biggest competitions where they messed up our music which was on an ipod and they refused to let the kids go again because of a time crunch. That would never happen here. A suggestion would be to lower the music during awards so everyone can hear but other than that it has been a great experience for us!
This competition is a RIP off !!! The most disorganized and unprofessional one I have ever been to!! The worst part is another teacher had recommended them last year and this year her and myself were thoroughly unimpressed!!! The music was a mess and they kept saying it was our fault yet it was multiple studios so clearly it was their fault ,the awards were not consistent and they didn\'t even have enough how is that even possible !!! The director wasn\'t even apologetic but had the nerve to have an attitude about it meanwhile everything that went wrong was on their end! I complained on their Facebook page but of course they took it down rather than addressing it if they didn\'t have anything to hide.
Comp on time, fast awards after a little too much talking :)
SO MANY PROBLEMS!I\'m pretty easy-going with dance comps since its supposed to be fun - I\'ve never even complained about any of the ones we\'ve been to over the years. BUT THIS ONE WAS NOTHING BUT PROBLEM AFTER PROBLEM. Our studio will NEVER go back. They ran out of programs not even halfway through the first day (and didn\'t print/copy more). No one ever introduced the judges or their qualifications. The venue was nice but way too small for the event -at least 1/4 of the audience had to stand. The schedule was not thought out - 12 & under had to be there at 6am on Saturday until mid-afternoon and again on Sunday starting at 4ish and awards didn\'t end until almost 10:30pm (on a Sunday for children as young as 5 years old.) The music cut out often (or was really loud or really soft). But the awards & awards ceremony was the worst - the special awards were plastic and tiny, second and third places didn\'t even get a trophy/award for OVERALLS (which were ages 7-12 and then 13-18 so it was really hard to place if you were on the younger end). They mixed up most of the ribbons they gave to our dancers including my daughter - they announced one category but the ribbons were completely different. They completely forgot to announce complete categories (they didn\'t announce duos/trios until parents started yelling/reminding them). They didn\'t have score sheets to give to directors for solos - they were going to email them later (which I\'m guessing would give them time to cover up their mistakes). And they got a bunch of reviews on their FB page from multiple studios (I counted at least 3 separate studios complaining) that weekend and they erased them all.
Such a terrible experience. Poor choice of venue. Disorganized. No mentioning of which studio was performing with each routine, in the program guide. The windows to the dressing room (open gym) was open and should have been covered with construction paper to stop the men from looking in. We watched several standing at the door all day... The Director of this event even mentioned the safety of our children, by not taking photographs. Yeah, right. But let\'s allow creepy men to look at our children changing in the dressing room! Give me a break. No food/beverages were served. Not enough seats for the audience. Should I go on? Numerous emails sent to the competition company as well as to Dance Era with no response, regarding the money we sent in for photos and videos. Very disappointing. I have a feeling we will never see the $$ or pictures/videos.
To all my fellow dance teachers and studio owners.... DO NOT ever go to That\'s Entertainment dance competition. There were nothing but problems all weekend between \"technical glitches\", forgetting to give out awards for numbers, and forgetting to bring trophies with them. The director is the most unprofessional woman I have ever seen. They also had a 50/50 and did not draw it and said you would be notified by mail if you won. Sounds a little fishy, no? Score sheets had either no scores at all or the scores were blacked out with a Sharpie. When confronted the director said that the computer scores were correct and we would get those on Friday. What, so they can edit them? On their Facebook page there were may bad reviews from people from the weekend. Now all of a sudden the reviews are gone and you are not able to review them anymore. They cannot get away with scamming people.
This competition was so poorly organized. There were multiple music issues: music cutting out, music skipping and it was different studios so it had to be their system. They only had 2 speakers facing the audience and so it had to be played so loudly for the dancers to hear their music as the only speakers were facing the audience. They ran out of programs for the entire weekend less than an hour into the morning. The computers the judges were using had a glitch and that took a half an hour to fix. As far as I know, only 2 routines got a \"Platinum Plus\" - the highest you could score, and there were not enough ribbons for the kids. This early in the season, you should not be running out of needed awards. Placement is ridiculous. Only the top 5 are awarded of ALL groups for 13+ and top 5 of ALL groups 12 and under. There really is no comparing a production to a small group or for that matter, a 13 year old to an 18 year old or a 6 year old to a 12 year old. Need more placement categories like most other competitions. Ridiculous awards too: Platinum Plus, Platinum, Solid Gold Plus, Solid Gold, High Gold. Come on people, lets go back to Gold, Silver, Bronze. The schedule we received had a start time but no other indications of where they hoped to be at least every couple of hours. Were they thinking 4 minutes apart? 5 minutes? No idea? Seemed like one studio won everything and I hate competitions like that. They were pretty good, but not in everything. They did have LOTS of numbers, LOTS of kids in production numbers, i.e., lots of $ spent. Hope we never go back. We also paid an additional $25 per child that allegedly could be applied to merchandise, or photos or videos or something, yet have not been able to access any photos or videos through their website or this Dancera vendor and no response from them on when we can access pictures. I have a feeling I will never see that $25 applied to anything.
Very disappointing!!!! Ran behind and very unorganized. Announcer continually made errors when announcing awards. Judging seemed inconsistent, and the overall winners ( besides first overall) did not even receive a certificate to acknowledge their accomplishment. I would not recommend this competition.
Our studio has been attending this competition for 10 years. The owners are professional and accommodating, and continually strive to implement new changes and improvements, in order to accommodate the needs of dancers and their families. Our students always look forward to attending this event. That\'s Entertainment is one of our favorite competitions.
The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, we were treated kindly and felt very welcomed. Thank you for a great weekend of dance!
Love this competition ! We always have a great time !
We have been attending That\'s Entertainment for many years. I\'m sorry to hear that the Nationals (sounds like one studio caused some problems.) had issues that upset people. Our dancers and parents love That\'s Entertainment. They\'ve always been fair and honest with us and easy to work with. It might be a good idea for them to eliminate the studio that caused all the fuss. We plan on attending again this season.
This dance competition is one of the best we have attended. The judges are always fair and work hard to make their reviews on the dances productive. My daughter has learned so much from their feed back and their workshops. We look forward every year to attend and know that when we do it will not only be a fun filled weekend but an awesome learning experience. I must say I also love the announcer, he is always entertaining.
Worst most dishonest dance competition I\'ve ever been involved with. The woman who runs the competition has a close relationship with studio involved in the brawl at nationals. That studio is always guaranteed the win by the people who run that\'s entertainment and their other competitions as well. It\'s disgusting, its the same hip hop studio from Bethlehem pa. I know our studio a long with a number of others will not be returning until the studio who started a physical brawl at nationals in Atlantic City are no longer a part of it and the judging and organization change their ways. There are so many reputable , honest wellrun dance competitions out there do not waste your time , money or your child\'s talents on this one.
We\'re sorry you felt this way! That\'s Entertainment Performing Arts Competition has always valued integrity and a positive experience for our dancers. Please contact us at info@thatsentertainmentpa.com so we can better address your concern. Thank you for your feedback!
I would like to start of by saying that I have been sending my daughter to competitions for over 6 years and this is by far the worst one yet! The amount of disorganization and lack of professionalism was horrendous. First of all, our stage manager was beyond rude. She was never to be found when needed and had a very sarcastic and condescending way about her. I was not the only dance mom to notice this. The day was filled with misguided information and confusion. I am not even completely sure who was running this event. I did however give the staff 3 stars. This was only because of my experience at the sales table. The young lady behind the table was very helpful and I found myself going to her on multiple occasions when I could not be helped by the \"assigned\" stage manager. Another point I would like to bring up is the quality of the photos available for purchase. We are prohibited from taking video or pictures of our dancers because it is offered for purchase. However, when I viewed the photos I was extremely disappointed. There were instances where heads, arms or legs were completely cut out of the photo. Even worse, some routines only had about 5 photos available while others had 25. All in all, I will not be coming back to this competition and I will be telling my friends of my experience.
We are sorry you had a bad experience! We take great pride in creating fun-filled competitions which encourage personal growth and development for each dancer. Please e-mail us at info@thatsentertainmentpa.com so we can better address your concerns.
Review Has Been Locked - TOU Violation - Multiple Accounts
The same studio was involved in a \"ballroom brawl\" last year. The fact that they were allowed to come back is disgusting enough, but then to hug and overly reward them just speaks volumes. Our studio attended last year\'s finals and we were on the fence because of the fight and the nonsensical \"talent search\", but when we attended one poorly run Regional this year that sealed the deal and we didn\'t attend this year\'s finals. Boy, I\'m glad we didn\'t!
Thank you for your comment. The studio you were referring to from last year was actually not at this event. This should clarify any misconceptions or concerns. -That’s Entertainment
That entertainment national competitionAtlantic City July 2015. One if the competing studios registered teachers as students that\'s entertainment staff knew and not only gave that stufio the highest awards but wAs seen hugging the owners. That same studio including the one owner, the students who competed and at least two patents, attacked and beat up a student who had performed in the competition in the hallway right outside the ballroom . That\'s entertainment staff saw it and still rewarded them. It was the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. I will not return to this competition.
We appreciate your concern regarding this particular incident. This altercation was actually a personal family matter that ensued during the competition. This situation had no connection to any studio and their students. Therefore there was no act of bad sportsmanship, which took place. In regards to teachers posing as students, we have no proof that is actually true. We apologize for the unpredictable behavior and uncomfortable circumstance that this may have brought onto those who were in attendance at our Atlantic City National Finals this past week. Thank you for a great job and a great event. - That\'s Entertainment
Thank you to the staff for being so courteous and helpful! This was our first experience with this competition and we truly enjoyed it! We are considering Nationals!
We love That\'s Entertainment Competition. This was my daughter Ellie\'s 3rd year dancing in the is competition. We love the people, that atomosphere everyone is so positive and nice. I very happy to give them 5 stars. Awesome competition. Thanks for making another memorable competition for my daughter. You team ROCKS!
We have been to That\'s Entertainment at different venues and absolutely love, love, love this competition! ALL of the staff are so much fun! They are great with kids and that is what counts. Lots of special awards which is a fun plus! It was organized and just all around fabulous!
My studio attended the Rochester competition with solos, duets, trios and two groups. It was the worst competition we\'ve ever been to. It was completely unorganized, the announcer messed up music and names on several occasions. Not to mention he took minutes to introduce each routine, which wasted our time. We still can\'t figure out what exactly was being judged here, because a few of our stronger routines placed significantly lower than expected. Dancers and teams with poor technique were awarded higher scores than they should have. Even the judges couldn\'t give us a clear answer on why our routines were given low scores. Several of our soloists had no overall awards announced, only highest in each category. The overall high scoring routine of the day was nowhere near as difficult or technique-heavy as our studio\'s high-scoring (second and third highest scores of the day) duets, one of which they refused to give an overall award because they claimed we did not \"pre-register\" and were afraid that they would be accused of cheating. Several kids received incorrect ribbons at the awards ceremony. We had more than enough of this competition and couldn\'t be more disappointed. Don\'t waste your time or money attending one of these events.
We\'ve been on the edge with this \"organization\" for quite a few events now but this past weekend in Windsor has sealed the deal. We will not be returning. What used to be a fun, friendly and relaxed event has now turned into a disorganized, unprofessional, unfriendly and bare-boned waste of time. Issues too many to mention, but main points are the way the daughter rudely treats and talks to the kids, the teachers and the studio owners. The chaos this weekend with scheduling and the volumes of time wasted with Joel being more scatterbrained than ever and then the other emcee unable to stay organized - the daughter moving numbers around and refusing to be flexible when we needed a change? What\'s that about? Not to mention her little \"side business\" telling some of the kids that she\'s a talent agent and can help them get professional work.... The judges looked tired, hungry, angry and bored all at the same time. Two full days with only one awards session each day. So, if your 5 year old danced at 7:30 a.m. she wasn\'t going to see her passport sized plaque (if she was lucky enough to get the correct award) until 10:00 that night. Done and Done. Don\'t waste your money.
The school I work for attended 3/28/15.....when I went to view critiques ,most of mine were missing and we had other studio\'s #instead! After tabulating the scores ourselves , realized that some of our dancers received wrong awards and we had to then try to explain that no,they didn\'t receive a platinum or tell another that actually should have received one ! Most judges gave NO technical corrections! Just a thank you or pretty girl blah blah. Though we did do well, I do not trust or value anything about this organization. Complete waste of time and $$$
That\'s Entertainment is amazing...Plain and simple. I was at AC nationals last year and I am the instructor of the tap group that was on stage when the argument happened (which, btw was between a dad and an entire studio, not between moms, unless there was more than one fight). Our group was not only apologized to but was also issued the \"Sportsmanship Award\" as a result of the situation. My only complaint about TE would be that they do switch judges sometimes and I don\'t agree with that at all but overall, it is a great competition. They judges are fair and don\'t just cater to the large studios.
If there was an option to give no stars I would. Let me start by saying this competition is completely unorganized and unprofessional, the owners are rude and clearly show favoritism. Their daughter is no better, her attitude behind stage was condescending and was barely around when we needed her. At competitions I should not have to search for the stage manger, she should be available when needed. The owners never had answers to any of the questions we had and are very dismissive. The announcer never knows what\'s going on, he always seems scatter brains. A lot of his comments are very inappropriate at times and the pauses between dances are plain awkward. I felt bad for the young women at the sales table, they are clearly understaffed. She was selling pictures and clothing all at the same time, with little to no help. As far as the judging goes it is not based off technique, it\'s just purely \"entertainment.\" I feel like it is just a bunch of amateurs trying to throw together a competition for money. You can not jut put up a back drop and call yourself a dance competition, wheres the glitz? wheres the glam? I\'ve seen better lighting at a sweet 16. I highly recommend that you save your money. They should take some notes from Groove and True Talent.
My dance family and I attended the Atlantic City Final this year and can say that without a doubt, there were some things that definitely could have been done better. But, at the end of the day, we keep returning to That\'s Entertainment for one reason and one reason only: The low-key atmosphere and on the spot judging, critiques, scoring and incredible thoughtful special awards that are given out. Seeing that my daughter and son have been attending this competition for as long as they\'ve been dancing and, myself as an older teen; I\'m gonna go out on a limb and say that I know who you may be attempting to slander here. And after being involved in the art of dance for almost 20 years with the same people, you\'re bound to say hello, give a hug, catch up on your downtime and just be nice to each other. We should all fist fight like those people did? (I would have expelled them too by the way...) At the end of the day, I say again, there may have been issues with other aspects of that week in Atlantic City, but you can bet that if our favorite judge wasn\'t there, neither would we. She\'s not our favorite because she\'s biased, she\'s our favorite because she\'s REAL. She tells it like it is and is able to accurately notice improvements because she knows MANY of those kids and their teachers. We clap for everyone too, by the way!
After completing That\'s Entertainment 2014 nationals in Atlantic City, I felt obligated to write to reflect my overall opinion. I normally wouldn\'t take the time to do this, but it was such an awful experience, I want to warn others who would consider doing their nationals in the future for the first time, because children are involved and should not be exposed to such obvious bias from the panel of judges (I\'ll get to that later), along with the disgusting behavior exhibited and ALLOWED by That\'s Entertainment by other dance studios that are clearly long time attendees and quite friendly with the judges and owners. Why else would TE allow a very loud, nasty altercation to take place between two moms from diff studios WHILE THE CHILDREN WERE PERFORMING and not publicly apologize to the studio dancing during the fight or address this to voice disapproval and apologize to everyone else since our children had to watch two mothers acting as if they were in a street brawl. Then another fight broke out in the lobby between two dancers and got somewhat physical. My entire studio was a witness to this, children, teachers, parents and family and friends and we were all appalled that there were no disqualifications or (at the very least) an apology from the director. Any other competition would have thrown them out! Another issue I have is the lack of credentials in the program for each judge. And why is a judge (who is clearly running the show) the MC and announcer of all awards, her comments with each one clearly laced with sarcasm towards studios some studios, while over the top complimentary to others she knows. To see that same judge in the back of the room hugging and kissing and laughing it up with parents from a particular studio is also VERY unprofessional!! I was SHOCKED to also see her hardly pay attention during several dances that I witnessed, looking down for her water bottle, turning around for her bag, chatting with people behind her.
It was nice. I really liked the trophies.
I could not give this comp 5 stars nor a \"hi-five\" award.
Average comp..didn\'t seem well run. Did love that the venue was a hotel. But changing rooms were tiny, cramped and hot. The dance area was level with the audience which made it difficult to watch. They were on time pretty much, which is always appreciated!
THE GOOD: Kids had a blast. Judges were very qualified and never switched. Special awards were thoughtful and specific. Announcer was pleasant and professional. Awards with this comp is always the best. They lead the dancers in a group dance and the staff have blast. THE BAD: Back stage wasn\'t run very well. Teachers basically figured it out and kept it running smooth. Pictures were not really good. jury is still out on videos, I haven seen I yet. Vendor takes only cash... hello 21 century! Your credit card can swipe now in days!!!! Thank you! We enjoyed our weekend with you!
Extremely unprofessional competition from the \"announcer\" to the rotating judges, and rude staff. There were no bios of the judges provided and the scoring made no sense. The \"special awards\" were a mockery and technique was not recognized in the scoring. This comp seemed solely interested in appeasing the large studios and not awarding skill and choreography. Also, dancers/attendees and the staff working the tables and stands were rude and disrespectful to dancers on the stage. It was the absolute worst competition I\'ve been to in our 3 yeats of competing.
If I didn\'t have to, I wouldn\'t give this completion any stars at all. It was run extremely poorly and unprofessional. My studio attended this competition and in Springfield NJ and we are still scratching our heads with the scoring. I mean I am no expert but I think dance technique is universal. These judges were awarding Platinum to dancers who were unable to straighten their legs and arms or point their feet. The programs were very generic with no bio for the judges. For all we know, they could have walked in off the street with NO knowledge of dance at all. They were constantly breaking and switching judges. At one point the young lady running the concession stand stood in as a judge. I would not recommend that any reputable dance studio with any talent attend this competition. Trust me you will not be pleased with the outcome.
We always have a great time when my studio attends TE...it is well run and fair, no matter how big the check. My girls and parents love it. There were some timing issues at nationals Atlantic City last year with the master classes running late every night but overall, it was a great experience.
Not the worst, but certainly not the best. When we went it did not attract a high caliber of talent, and the venue was horrible. Our kids had to dance on a clip together wood ballroom floor. . . eek! We\'ve grown out of this competition, but it wasn\'t too bad for recreational/new students. Now that other competitions have multiple levels, I would say skip this one all together.
my studio attended in youngstown and enjoyed it! however, it was a one day competition, which was not ideal, but we had fun and scored well and fairly! would definitely recommend!
Rosemary and Joel are super nice, but this competition has changed with the name.
Been attending this competition for 7 years including regionals and nationals...Rosemary & Joel & staff do a great job, just could be a little more professional \"looking\" at Regionals and nationals are usually held in not the most desirable of locations.
Had a great time when our studio went! The only downside was that one big studio entered at the last minute after the schedule had been sent out causing some dances to run behind schedule. Also the pictures were not as great quality as some other competitions. Other than that, the judging was fair and the judges gave great critiques. We will be traveling to their nationals next month. Can\'t wait!
Had a great experience at this competition - judging was fair in a fun environment that had both the kids and parents happy. We will attend again.
