Well organized and well run, both conventions and competitions.

BTS is my FAV!! We absolutely love the whole weekend with beyond the Stars competition Awards are fun, fair, the kids love the merch & the moms love the staff!
Love this competition. We enjoy everything!!! Nice easy to get to venue and dressing rooms are big enough for everyone because the school lets us have the gym. My studio is small and we are very new to competition so we were very happy with the levels and dancers being in the appropriate level. Ahead of schedule and awards were so fun!!! I would recommend attending and finding out for yourself how fun this competition is.
Always a studio favorite! The staff makes this competition so wonderful 😊 Always in time or ahead of time and when there are scheduling conflicts they are super patient with the dancers backstage and have no problem jumping ahead to give them time to change and catch their breath. Super professional and kind to everyone!
Pictures and videos were nice. It ran on time. However, they had no control over anyone backstage and the judging was way too harsh. Backstage they allowed girls to literally sit in the wings and talk and eat food. Our dancers couldn’t get on and off stage during their routines because girls were sitting there for no reason at all. The judging seemed to be very one sided toward one studio. It’s fine if one studio gets the majority of overalls…if they’re better then they’re better. But that doesn’t mean that other studios don’t get some diamond scores. We had some really talented dancers scoring far below the diamond category for no apparent reason. When we got the scores, they were all over the place. The only consistency was one judge was scoring our routines a full 3-4 points lower than the other 2 judges (who were already giving low scores.) This caused our best dancers to be scoring low platinum scores….closer to high gold than to diamond. The critiques were basic… one judge didn’t even know ballet terminology. There was nothing in the critiques that gave any clue as to why they were taking a 15-20 points off of a girl’s overall score. I also cannot stand when judges allow studios to obviously place their dancers in lower levels than they belong. The dominant studio at this comp with us is known for placing the majority of their dancers in the intermediate level. You watch these routines and it is extremely obvious that these girls have no business being in that level but yet the judges give them diamond scores. That shouldn’t fly. If you want to dance down to try to steal overalls from true intermediate dancers then you don’t deserve a diamond score. This would be a great comp if they had better control of what’s going on backstage and fair judging.
This might be my new favorite competition. The dressing room was very small and nowhere to actually run dances and stretch so most kids had to go into the lobby. At this venue you have to go outside to get to the theater which might be a problem for some studios. The scoring was good nothing amazing but the pins are very good quality. Some competitions have the cheap plastic pins but these were metal. The gift shop was the best one I’ve ever experienced. They had cool designs nice squishy sand the prices were reasonable. Most competitions hoodies range from 40-70 dollars while this one was only 35. Now the sweatshirt was on the thinner side but it is great because it is about to get hot. The live stream ad break is really cool so you don’t have to watch people clean stages for five minutes.
Good experience all around. It was very professional. Felt like sitting for a quick rock concert. Very fun! I'm sure we will go back and try their other comp too.
This was our first time attending and sadly will probably our last time ever. The competition judging was all over the place. It didn’t make any sense. They judged the beginner level dancers waaaayyyy too harshly. They are novice dancers! Then they award someone who forgets their routine and stops on stage twice… a platinum and overall high score. We are not asking for the highest scores…but when you attend competition you know usually how your dancers will score/place. It has our entire studio baffled. Golds?? Really?? Our dancers usually earn platinums or diamonds and top overalls and they earned nothing at this event. Left empty handed. We know what our dancers bring to the table and the judges seemed inexperienced. It seems they favored the studios that spent the most money to be there….or someone knew someone. Completely unfair judging and we are NOT happy. We left feeling incredibly defeated and not recognized at all for anything. Overall not a good experience at all. Do better!
We have been with BTS since they began! they are extremely organized. Award ceremony is run very well. Very fair judging. very friendly staff. I highly recommend
Loved attending both the regional + national competition for BTS. It was our first year with BTS & our students had such a positive experience at both events. Staff was so kind, events were organized, communication was excellent, nationals opening team number & graduating senior dances were great. No complaints! We can't wait to go back again this year.
The competition itself was good. The event ran smoothly, my dancers enjoyed the opening number routine, and the judging was fair. My biggest complaint with this event was the host hotel at the Doubletree. It was, by far, the worst hotel I have ever stayed. There was mold throughout my room, my ceiling was coming down in chunks, my phones never worked, the wall paper was peeling at every seam. If another nationals is planned for Monroeville I would seriously look into a different host hotel. It made the week pretty unbearable and I would not return.
Our family loves BTS. Cannot say enough great things about how this comp is run. My daughter is eager to try their new comp next season, too! We look forward to Nationals!
We love BTS! This event is A-1 on our list. It is run professionally, on time, with fair judging, and really constructive and helpful feedback. Our dancers enjoy the challenging but friendly atmosphere of this competition and have made friends with dancers from other studios through the years. Definitely recommend!
This was our first time attending BTS and my daughter was alone that day attending this comp and she had the best experience. The judging was so fair! Usually in our experience, comps try to reward the studios bringing a ton of kids so we almost expected that she would place low but my daughter ended up winning 1st overall. The sportsmanship shown by other parents from other studios blew me away when they came to my daughter and said she was so deserving. It was heartwarming to see the positive environment overall. Ran on time if not ahead and awards were quick and efficient. Keep up the great work BTS!
I absolutely love Beyond the Stars. Everything from the scheduling to awards to the wonderful staff. I would definitely recommend their competition to anyone.
We LOVE Beyond the Stars! We make it a point to attend every single year. It always runs efficiently! The entire team and their events are responsive, friendly, helpful and organized. The events themselves are all about the kids which is what we love for our dance students!
Love Love Beyond the Stars. We have attended 2 years in a row and they are super professional. Judging is great and critiques the dancers receive are always super informative! Highly recommend
Beyond the Stars is hands down one of the BEST competitions we've attended! I am the Director of our Performance Companies at our studio and whenever there is a year we can't attend BTS because of scheduling issues we are always so sad, they are forever #1 in our books! We did get to attend this weekend and it was our first competition in 2 years so our dancers were beyond excited about hitting the stage again and Beyond the Stars really fulfilled ALL of our expectations while there. Both prior to covid and post-covid, BTS has always impressed us with their skills in making sure everything is handled so smooth, calmly, and with a fun and positive attitude - which unfortunately is not always the case at other competitions we attend. We appreciate their professionalism and their staff are also all genuinely so nice and helpful to EVERYONE no matter the circumstances. We also really appreciated the covid-safety guidelines they had in place and followed through with, it seriously couldn't have gone more perfectly for us as we require masks and strict social distancing guidelines at our studio. Some of our parents were really hesitant entering the competition season and worried about how a competition could possibly run smoothly in covid-times and left the competition today with huge smiles on their faces and lots of words of appreciation to our staff on how everything went. Thank you BTS for a fabulous event and for always exceeding our expectations, we are SO excited to hopefully be back next year!!!
I am director of a fairly large team in New Jersey, with every level. Since our inaugural season, we have attended BTS for a reliable and super high-quality event. I never have to worry about parents or dancers leaving I happy. As a director, I know what to expect and no other company has been able to compare or even come close. This season - we are ONLY attending BTS events. After their summer and fall events we attended, we knew that this would be the only company that we would be comfortable with. We were not wrong - we have attended multiple events and ALL of them have been exceptional. With COVID - things are complicated. At BTS, my dancers feel like they are at a “real” competition. They cut no corners whatsoever with event quality, production value or FUN. These events go above and beyond any and all Covid guidelines. The events are calm, controlled and so much fun for kids! As a director - it is important to me that my parents feel safe - and I know that they do because they keep asking to go back! Judges critiques are consistently fair and extremely informative - judges are so kind (and we have listened to over 15 of their judges this season alone). My kids love the positive reinforcement and kind, constructive criticism. I do not need to screen them. In addition, the photos and videos (included) are the best we’ve ever gotten. It’s clear these photographers know what they are doing - and not just clicking a button. I am writing this review because I think as a director it’s imperative that when picking competitions, you know what you’re getting yourself in to. We’ve all been to “those” events and as directors we have to answer for them. You will not need to do that for this event! This company has gone above and beyond both before and after COVID. This competition should be a “must do” on list !
While technically this competition isn't over, and we have not completed our virtual awards, I felt compelled to give some feedback based on our experience Friday night. I realize that Covid has changed everything and made competitions a challenge. I am so happy that my daughter had the opportunity to perform and compete. But our experience Friday night could have lasting effects. We were told we were to arrive as a team and enter venue together in our 1st costume. Upon arrival, all doors were locked and it was freezing Temps with a breeze. My daughter was wearing tights, her costume, and a jacket. Two teams were part of our arrival. The other team was permitted to enter first, because they were bigger. For 15 min, we waited, outside while only one scanner was being used. As we arrived to the door, finally a second door and scanner were begun to be used. Our studio had a lower level dressing room in the basement. My daughter had to carry all her things, giant suitcase, etc by herself. No parents permitted in the dressing room. By the time our studio sat their things down it was time to line up for the stage, as our supergroup, entire studio was the 1st act at 4:45. My daughter did her best to stretch off stage while they were prepping to enter, but there just wasn't enough time. Meanwhile the other studio, who was permitted to enter 1st, had multiple dancers on stage warming up, stretching etc. During this 1st routine, my daughter did an aerial and apparently pulled a muscle. My guess because cold muscles and not proper time given to stretch and warm up. She did compete in all of her other 6 routines and did attempt one more aerial, that she nearly fell on her head, but then had to alter the other 5 routines from being in too much pain. Again, i understand restrictions with Covid, but it is not safe to dance without being given time to warm up, especially after being made to stand in freezing Temps. Also, we have competed in this venue before. When we originally scheduled this competition, it was to be held in Akron but had to be rescheduled for Warren. We would have never chosen this comp knowing this would be the venue. It is very outdated and spaces for dancers are not proper for dressing or prepping. Basement floor is disintegrating. I hope in the future you do not choose this venue again.
Very well run in Zanesville, Ohio. However, judges comments were not able to be heard which was a disappointment as these are used to help in the future. Also, all pictures in the media package had a judge's head in the middle of the picture.
WE LOVE BEYOND THE STARS! BTS continues to be one our company's favorite competitions to attend. The staff is always so professional and the events consistent and organized. Every time we've attended an event ALL of the judges have been so informative and clear in their critiques...it's obvious each of the judges is well versed in various forms of technique! We have nothing but amazing things to say and recommend attending!
Thank you for postponing your event. Our kids were absolutely devestated but your communication has been amazing. Definitely an industry standard for customer service which is why we attend BTS. Hopefully u can reschedule for a date that works for our kiddos! Stay safe everyone!!!
Very organized and professional competition. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Our dancers and parents always leave with a great experience.
We have been attending this competition for the past few years and have enjoyed it so much! Friendly staff and very well run competition!! We are very pleased at the ease of registering and feel that the competition is very fair.
I used to enjoy this competition years ago. This year the regional event we attended was disappointing for a number of reasons. There was a technical difficulty at one point that caused at least 30 minutes to elapse without dancing. The BTS staff never addressed this issue with the audience or studio owners, and everyone was simply left to wonder and wait. This is just one example of the lack of engagement and communication we felt all weekend. Although the person reading off the routine numbers spoke clearly and introduced every dance by title and number, he did not act as a master of ceremonies. The kids enjoy interacting with MCs at other venues and this one just didn't have anyone acting as the face of the show. The judges did not really interact with the dancers or audience at all, other than a single judge at each award ceremony presenting special awards. The vibe was impersonal. Awards were given in a fast monotone. I don't want a long drawn-out ceremony with trumpets and fanfare. But I do want every dancer to feel celebrated and honored. Rushing through is not a good thing. Lest you think this is sour grapes, my kid's studio did very well. But it was not a fun event. My daughter told me that she observed the judges shuffling papers and chatting about the girl who had danced before her while she was performing. Despite this, she did her routine better than ever before. But what message does it convey when the judges are not paying any attention to the person dancing a solo for a solid minute of their 2 minute 45 second dance? To me, it says, "we don't care about your dance, we are just here to collect a paycheck." So maybe it was just a one time error in judgement? Nope, as I spoke to other parents who reported that their children noticed the judges not watching them either. Shame on these so-called professionals!
Love Beyond the Stars! Judging was extremely tough but fair. I'd rather have that than the other way around!
BTS is one of our must go-to comps for years! I've been attending this competition for 11 seasons and each year it get better and better. It has grown with the times and always keeps up with the latest technology. You know when you go to a BTS event, you are going to have a great experience! They have some of the best staff and are always willing to work with you. Judging has always been very fair and they have some of the best awards ceremonies! l
They let the judges actually judge fairly!! They dont force judges to give certain routines specials because that studio "needed more awards". Its honest and fair, like a competition should be.
This competition is incredibly low scoring unless you're a jazz or hip hop routine. They give nice awards and most of the staff was pleasant. The venue we attended was absolutely awful. It was filthy. There were tiny dressing rooms and nowhere near enough of them. The bathrooms, oh the bathrooms, they were disgusting. Due to having two dancers, 6 years apart in age, we were there from doors open to doors close. The only place to get a bottle of water closed 3 hours before the competition ended. There were no vending machines, and if there were water fountains, we didn't find them. I will say that it was nice to have a 6&under age division to give the little ones a chance to actually compete. But it was very unfortunate that if a child had a solo they had to compete at the mid level. My 5 year old is very much a novice.
When we first began attending this competition in 2016 it was an amazing experience. The girls felt so confident and truly like they had met so many new friends and felt like they learned so much and witnessed so much amazing art. We are sadly disappointed as BTS has become all about tricks and nothing else. And it seems like all of our favorite teams that we love watching are not showing up anymore because of the same thing. We attended the Queens competition and the judges were living for twerking and gyrating all day, rather than our girls who put on a show all day and showcased very clean technique. Rarely did we ever hear a Gold be awarded in years past- today it was very popular. The judging criteria for Acro tricks in any category besides Acro is supposed to be limited to 3 only- how did a jazz soloist who did 7 tricks win 1st overall? Tap was another issue- beware of this as well, choreographers- don’t get creative. It seems as if these judges just want fast tap in one spot- the entire time dead downstage center the entire dance. I think BTS needs to step it up a little bit to regain their reputation they used to have. The environment and the vibe seems to be getting very tired and elite feeling- this used to be a competition we’d go to so it didn’t feel like another episode of Dance Moms and yesterday it felt like just that. Quote of the day “If you don’t sit still I’m going to kill you.” (A narrative story about the love a mom has for her daughter- so intense that one of our 11 year olds came over to her mom crying because she was so upset for this girl who was sobbing in her costume.) Not the happy supportive crowd it used to be.

I attended Beyond The Stars-Sparta, NJ in 2017. The competition is pretty well run, the venue is spectacular! (Sussex County Vo-Tech) the venue is probably the best you can get in North NJ, the judges were decent, the staff were great, the awards were pretty good and the competition overall was decent.
We as a studio love this competition! Professionally run, amazing staff and judging! Such a fun uplifting competition!
very organized, warm friendly staff who goes above and beyond to please studio directors. Very fair judging, Awards run smoothy and they make it very fun for the kids! The parents of my studio LOVE BTS and we have been attending since they began.
Had a great experience. Judging was tough but fair. Wish the results were posted online like in past years.
This was the first dance competition my daughter ever attended!! It was very well ran and organized!! We had such a great experience! Excited to attend convention in December!
We've attended BTS for a couple of years and absolutely love it! They are on our MUST-GO-TO list each year. They are, without a doubt, the most fairly judged, fun and ORGANIZED competition across the board! Always stay true to scheduling with friendly owners that make you feel like family. They also make it 100% about the kids and their fun and improvement. Judging is HONEST and FAIR no matter how big or little your studio is!
We attended one event in Ohio and Nationals in Slidell, La....the staff was great each time! They made all the dancers feel special and important! We loved the atmosphere and hopw to return again this year!
I had the BEST time at Beyond the Stars regionals AND nationals! The regionals were super organized and flowed great (we ran an hour and a half ahead) which was even better. The nationals was the best week ever. Julie, David, Nikki, Marquis, and everyone were so kind and made nationals an AMAZING week!
I really enjoyed bts. They had an amazing and fun staff. We also love there venues as well. One disadvantage was the awards were going really fast and really long.
All of the people working at bts were super nice and kept the flow of the competition going really well (making us run over 2 hours early)?
Beyond The Stars was a very fun, organized competition! They were always on schedule, and had fair Judges and scoring! The staff that works there were very welcoming and kind. Plus, the competition just has an overall happy vibe to it. I'm glad to have danced at BTS. (in Sparta, NJ)
Probably my favorite competition of the year, wonderful friendly staff, well organized. Tough scoring but it was tough across the board, it never felt like there were favorites. Would love to head back next season.
I really enjoy how BTS runs their competitions. From the staff, to the judges to how they are always on time. It is always an excellent experience for my daughter. We just got back from the Nationals in Atlantic City at Bally's from 7/16/17-7/21/17. Where I didn't love the venue as much as the previous years. However, every other facet of the competition made up for that. Lastly, a big shout out to Joel, Nicole and Geovanna who were amazing at their jobs. From their outstanding customer service while always having big smiles on their faces to having fun with my daughter while trading pins. Thank you. You were all so awesome!
Competition was well run and staff was super friendly and nice but we will NOT be returning. When we received or critiques in the mail, we where missing several videos. One routine had no videos, two routines were missing a judge and another two routines had ANOTHER STUDIO'S CRITIQUES! We understand mistakes happen however we had 3 routines with no videos and dancers who are devastated because they never received any critiques. After calling 4-5 times, saying they will call us back the next day and waiting 4 weeks we finally received an e-mail saying they didn't have them. Poor customer service. After sometime they did finally make an attempt to make it right and for that we thank Beyond the Stars, it was just unfortunate this had to happen in the first place.
Great competition. Organized, knowledgable staff, ran on time. The judges critiques where absolutely amazing! The judges spoke the entire time and had all helpful things to say! Will definitely recommend and return.
Really fun competition and felt like even though we were small that they recognized what we brought to the table with special awards. The judges comments were very lazy. The comments were like point your toes and stretch your knees which is valid and things the students need to hear but no one took time to expound about anything they saw or give any additional feedback or problem solving to accomplish the things they saw that needed fixing. The competition ran on time but a little bit too early...to be an hour ahead and at times more than that...was hard for planning when we were not there for the entire competition. I wish the competition valued the lights as much as they valued the sound. The DJ was awesome in having music and getting the crowd excited however a little bit more attention to lights would be appreciated. I don't know if it was the facility we used in Grand Rapids but the lights were white work lights and gave no special feeling as they kids came on stage. I wish the stage lights could have been on that I saw were hung there. Lastly the parents and the staff were very nice and the families we came into contact were so nice. Nicer than other competitions we have attended in the past. It was nice to be welcomed even though we were a small group. Thank you for a fun weekend!
Always a great time. Fun and exciting awards and the dancers love the new title with first over all...what a great surprise and addition to the awards and a beautiful jacket.... went to an extremely overpriced competition that said "with your title a jacket" and it was a horrible blue cheap sweater but not bts they go all out for the dancers. Great staff and director
Have attended regionals and nationals. Excellent well run competition. Wonderful directors who care about performers and all teachers regardless of how many acts you bring
This was our first time attending this competition and overall had a great experience. The judging was tough but I feel it was tough all around and after listening to the judges critics agreed with 95% of what they said. Awards were fast and clear. It was the 1st competition we've ever been to in a HS so a few lessons learned there but overall would love to compete here again.
Recently took my students to BTS for the first time. Competition was organized and ran smoothly. Directors and staff were super friendly and were eager to provide assistance if needed. We will return!
Our studio LOVES this competition. It is run on times, in order and fairly. The judging is spot on with LOTS of useful comments on the critiques. We have also attended their convention and think the same! It is always an enjoyable time. We WILL be back to both the Competition and Convention!!!!!
My daughter and her friend attended the convention in Rootstown, Ohio. I cannot say enough positive things about it! It was well organized, the venue was lovely and spacious, and the teachers were top notch. Each of the teachers were energetic, knowledgeable, and seemed truly interested in each student. We would definitely return as we've always enjoyed their competitions too and look forward to competing in March at Beyond the Stars.
We attended the convention this weekend for the 1st time and everything about it was excellent! All the kids (from our 1 hour a week rec kids to our 6 day a week dancers) enjoyed it and were able to take something away! We are looking forward to attending the competition again this year as well!
Great competition they really do some great things for the kids of all ages (ex pin trading , big dance party , and classes which helps the kids make friends from other studios ) so glad we are a part of bts !!
I think this competition is one of the best, they judge very good and run very smoothly. Also they take awards very serious and very well. There staff is really good backstage and very nice.
Great Comp...runs very smooth. Great Job!
Great competition very professional
Good time, good competition, fair and fun!
Great competition, professional and exciting
Great Time!
By far my favorite dance competition that I have been too. I\'m a senior and I have conpeted since I was 8 years old and this has been my favorite competition to return too every year.
Great Nationals competition and great venue
One of my favorite completions as both a teacher and a parent!!!
So much fun! They are one of the best!! BTS treats all dancers equally and is never rude.
BTS is a great competition. They do treat all studios equally. Competition was run well and on time. We will see you again next year!!
Love-Love-Love-Love it here! We always have a professional experience. Small studios treated the same as the bigger studios. My two girls feel like superstars. I will always come to BtS!
Not only do I love this competition, but so did my students and their parents. We are a newer studio with a small competition team and Beyond the Stars could not have been a better experience for us. The owners and staff are by far the friendliest and most welcoming we have ever encountered. The Atlantic City Nationals were truly an event with amazing production value, they really go the extra mile to give the students a memorable experience. I found the Judges comments really spot on and helpful the videos and photos we received were really great quality as well. Both Regionals and Nationals were ran really efficiently and the directors and backstage staff were beyond accommodating, Both events also ran ahead of schedule, getting us our early which was great. I still have parents saying how much they loved Jordan at the store, and all my students say this was their favorite competition they have done. Thank you BTS for helping to make our Competition season so Great!
extremely professional, fun competition. Ginny always goes above and beyond to accommodate everyone. Entire staff is warm and friendly. We have been attending BTS for 10+ years. Highly recommend BTS
We love Beyond The Stars. Our school has been coming for years. Judges are fair and offer great critiques. Warm and friendly staff, extremely organized events, and great venues. Many talented schools and dancers attend which makes for a great competition! The kids love the free workshops at Nationals. Highly recommend this competition!
I would rate a 0 if it was an option. There were 2 rooms running simultaneously which meant that we had to keep running from the auditorium to the gym and back. Plus I\'ve always felt that it is unfair to have some solos in a gym on a makeshift stage with different judges and some on the main stage in a darkened auditorium. We had one dancer who was told by the comp that she needed to go on to do her solo in the gym, even though she was only there to warm up and it was not her time to do it. This made it so she did her solo with no one cheering for her, not even her own parent! And this never happens at our studio. We cheer and support every dance and dancer. The scoring was questionable and, in my opinion and observation, completely biased. I am very glad we will not be returning to this comp in the future. For as much money as comps cost, I\'d like my money to go to a fair and well-run organization.
We attended Nationals in Cape May. My daughter froze onstage during her Pointe solo. BTS staff was extremely kind and accommodating, allowing her to redo her solo. Not only was I blown away by BTS kindness, dance moms from other studios were just a nice and supportive of my daughter. It is because of the kindness of strangers she was able to finish the afternoon with personal best scores in each of her performances....thank you BTS
First time here and loved it! Great awards, good studios in attendance, fair judging. Loved the video in the media package, but the photos were pretty poor compared to every other competition we went to this year.
This competition was so much fun. The staff was great(Jordy) the awards were great and the competition went ahead of schedule.
Only our second competition as a studio and we had an amazing weekend! Judging was extremely fair, competition ran on-time, if not early, more than adequate dressing rooms, loved the stage and the staff was incredibly helpful - shout out to Jordy backstage! Senior solos were Sunday morning (Mother\'s Day) and ended by 12:30 - everyone was grateful for an easy morning. Added touch that they had Dunkin\' Donuts throughout the venue for the families and all smiling staff members wishing a warm \"Happy Mother\'s Day\" to all! Can\'t wait to come back next year! Thank you, BTS!
Love this competition!!!! Very fair! I only brought a handful of my dances last year and we did amazing and took some advanced level overalls!!! This season didn\'t work out schedule wise but we will be back next year!!!
By far the best competition I have ever done. The directors make an effort to go around and speak to everyone. They are very kind and helpful and it\'s clear that they genuinely care about the dancers and the studios. The staff was all amazing! All of my dancers walked out of this competition smiling, confident, with their heads held high, asking it and when we could come back! The directors make it a pout to make sure no one feels invisible! This competition was wry organized and well run and we will definitely be returning! Again this was the best competition I have ever been to!
Always a big fan of Beyond the Stars! The competition is well run and it feels like a family atmosphere. From our experience all studios seem welcome (not just the big stusios with $$$ in entries). Awards are nice, the kids walk away feeling like they received something. Ginny, the director is approachable and I love that this is a family run business. A good competiton for smaller studios for sure!
This competition is always well run! The directors care about every studio no matter how big or small. We have attended regionals and nationals and this is definitely one of the favorite competitions f our students and parents!
Absolutely love this competition! Everything about it was great! Judging was fair, awards were fantastic, staff was so friendly and the entire event ran so smoothly and even ahead of schedule! This is our second year but we will be back for years to come!
Love. Love. Love. Our third year. SOOOO professional. We only compete in beginneer categories. Treat us just as special as the super big advanced studios. My girls feel like queens when they leave. We will always go back to BTS!!!!!
We have had wonderful experiences with Beyond the Stars. This year we had a dancer become ill and the Beyond the Stars staff were so caring and accommodating. The judging is fair and you get helpful comments and encouragement. The competition runs very smoothly and the staff backstage are friendly and helpful. There is excellent communication and we received our video critiques within only four days of the competition.
This competition had a GREAT photographer - quality, clear, photos, comprehensive through the routines. Reasonably and fairly priced photos and DVD\'s. The other studios were quite pleasant and supportive, even though they were more advanced and probably pre-professional (no sneering or mockery noted - as a matter of fact, they supported our team with cheers when we lost our music and continued). Large venue at Eriel nice. Staff at photo desk and merchandise very pleasant and patient. Only major snags were several problems with the music - stopping mid routine, couldn\'t find one number.
Beyond The Stars competition is the best competition out there this is the only comp we do every year everyone one at BTS are great people to deal with so nice to everyone no matter if you are a big studio or a small one everyone treated the same!! runs on time judges are good sound system sounds great our kids feel that they are stars when they go home way to go BTS!!!!
One of the best run Competitions. My studio was in Flanders, NJ the past weekend. The scheduling was perfect. They kept the weekend running on time and awards was perfect timing. Best of all, this competition had a very lay back, calmer aura to it. The dancers and parents were a little nicer than usual. It was a really much enjoyable time than the norm. Thanks
This was our second year attending BTS.... And our second year to love it! We had two students quit the morning of competition, and Mickey the comp director was amazing! Very accommodating! Even came to find me later on in the day to check and see if things were going ok. Judging was fair and my girls did well despite being down two teammates last minute. Can\'t wait for till Nationals!
Great!
The competition seemed well organized and ran on time. Actually, it ran ahead of time but for the most part kept the dances in order which was great (there are other competitions that go all out of order when they are running ahead which makes it so chaotic and so much extra waiting around because you have no idea when the dances will be going on. Not the case here. While there was a little bit out of order, it was minimal. They had a judge there who seemed to know tap which was a refreshing change. Also, they had approximately 20 studios, so instead of running two stages, they broke it up into two separate competitions. I liked that because it kept things running smoothly. (as opposed to other competitions that run two stages and awards ceremonies would be delayed waiting for the other stage to catch up, it was hard to catch all the studios dances etc). I know Nationals will be larger...does anybody know how many stages they will be running at Atlantic City this summer?
We have been going to this competition for years and it keeps getting better and better every time we go! My staff and students love it and we always have a great time. This year they have even stepped it up further, two days after the comp is done and I have my critiques in hand along with a personal Thank you note! BTS is always a great event and we know we are getting a fair and consistent competition! All of the Directors are very professional and take time out to make sure that everything is going well for each studio!
An ok competition. Nothing special except for the fact they give to a charity. This goes for many competitions, they need people judging that have some knowledge of tap technique and skills. Only a couple insignificant words and silence on the critiques. Tap solo that has scored very high all season received a mediocre score with no explanation as of why. Please make sure your judges know all types of dance so these kids are judged fairly and consistently.
Attended this competition once, and never returned. From start to finish, we were never made to feel welcome. Reason being, we were a very small studio at the time. We participated because it was a fundraiser for Alex\'s Lemonade stand. The students were very happy and proud to participate. However, also stated that they never wanted to return.
Great Comp .. Very well ran and the city mortifying cares about what everyone thinks ! Love it
A fun competition! Best prize money that I know of!
This has to be a favorite competition of mine! My daughter loves it as well and the staff were so energetic and helpful.
This is a very well run competition. The staff is professional and friendly, the judging is fair, and they run on time or ahead of schedule. My dancers and parents have enjoyed their experience at the last few regionals we have attended. This is definitely a competition we look forward to.
Have attended BTS regionals and Nationals over the past few years. Usually runs on time, venues have been nicely accommodating. When it comes to Nationals, I do agree that placing a Diamond level dancer in the same category as an intermediate dancer just because they are in the same age division is highly flawed. Level dancers should be competing against other dancers of the same level. DVDs purchased through BTS of regionals and Nationals need to be higher quality. Pictures printed at venue are very poor quality.
Our studio has competed at Beyond the Stars for several years and we just returned from a wonderful week at BTS nationals. It was so well run and well organized and the entire staff is very accommodating and hard working. My students had a blast participating in the opening number and the free master classes as well and they look forward to this competition every year. We would like to congratulate Beyond the Stars on another fantastic season and we highly recommend this competition to dancers of all ages and levels!
just returned from the nationals in Atlantic City. Very well run and on time competition. that I have to give them credit for. But their policy of pitting groups that have all star dancers against the rising and shooting stars really kills the spirit of cometition. Imagine having to listen to girls that have given their all saying \"why should we even go on stage? There is no way we can compete with the level of thos dancers\" My grandchildren came home complete crushed and have lost much of their enthusiasum for dance. To have one school completely bully the other schools with their sheer amount of dancers and world renowned dancers competing aginst girls that are evry day dancers is just not fair. If it was allowed I would give no stars for this event.
I feel that while being a positive experience for the dancers, judging and scoring was to easy. All Dancer\'s received a Platnium or a Diamond. Nothing wrong with it but if they feel that they have gotten a really well score then they will have nothing to work for or nothing to challenge themselves with. Ran on time, staff was nice, If you want just an ok comp I recommend go their, but I wasn\'t amazed or even Impressed
I was a little irritated at first when I was told my dancer who had a complete hair, makeup, and costume change in 9 songs needed to be back stage NOW when our dressing room was down stairs on the other side of the school, but we made it. The event was fabulous on time and quality! We will be going back next year and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a competition.
My studio always has a great time at this competition. Everyone is friendly for the most part, the backstage crew is helpful, and the owner makes a great effort to run a fantastic competition. We always come home feeling good after attending BTS, and the judging has always been fair in all the years we\'ve attended. Even with our dressing room situation Friday night in Rome, everyone was apologized to and given a free picture from BTS for being so cooperative. We also attended nationals in Atlantic City and had a good experience there, it was just a little too large in my opinion. This is my favorite competition that the studio has ever attended, which is why we continue to go. We love BTS!
This competition was a wonderful competition and my team loved it! They did have a small stage but nothing to terrible to work with! It was a amazing comp to go to and my team loved it! They did make a wrong choice with their backstage award, we were not saying that we deserved it, but the team that got it wasn\'t the nicest team in the world. Some of the girls were nice but a lot of the ones we encountered weren\'t super lovely! We loved that we could go early if we wanted to but wasn\'t forced to, the backstage people were great and so were the outside workers. Overall this was a great comp that we all loved!
I have attended Beyond The Stars Regional, National and Convention events for the past 8 years and it is by far one of our favorites! Ginny, her family and staff always do their very best to provide a well-run, fair and fun weekend filled with great talent. We attend many different dance events throughout the year, and are always excited when we have the opportunity to come back to Beyond the Stars. BTS events are organized, family friendly and encourage good sportsmanship and appreciation for each child\'s talents. Ginny truly cares about the kids and does whatever she can to ensure a positive experience for all.
Fair, consistent judging. Always runs on time. The judges\' critiques are helpful for the dancers.
We are mostly a non-competitive studio who only had done a small competition before, we wanted to try a national competition and I am glad we chose \"Beyond the Stars\". My dancers had a great time. I liked the three different levels, since my students only dance 2.5-5 hours per week. They ran on time or early and had a friendly staff. Other studio teachers and students were nice. We will be back next year!
Attended The Manahawkin Competition - blown away by the talent and kindness of other studios and how great the competition was run. Big event, never felt rushed or any pressure at all. Even after running into some problems (my fault) Nicki and staff were fantastic to work with. As someone with multi-level team (recreational to very competitive) we all look forward to this event and are excited about our 4th Nationals with BTS this year!
Fairly well run competition. Things were on time and a very friendly staff. The only weird thing was that this competition doesn\'t use January 1 as their birthday cutoff as the rest of the comps we attend do. Nothing bad, but just a little confusing for some of the moms who kept looking in the wrong age divisions for our numbers. And with the exception of one studio it seemed like the level system was pretty well followed.
We loved this competition. At first we were not sure of we would like the three levels, but it worked out very well. The judging was fair and I liked that they did not give out too many diamond awards. The ones that received it truly deserved it. Most of the performances received platinum or high gold. I hate when you go to a competition and everyone gets the same award, as if they are afraid to really critique someone. Each soloist received a trophy and pins were given for group dances. The first night of competition ran a little ahead of schedule and the second day ran pretty much on time. Loved the venue. Overall this was a good experience and really hope our director chooses to return to bts next year.
Well-run competition
Worst competition ever attended in over ten years of competitions! Judges seemed extremely young and at times weren\'t even watching the competition. Judges scorings/comments completely different than all other competitions we attended this year. Scheduling was awful. Our dancers were scheduled Friday night and then nothing until Sunday night. Just all around a horrible experience.
We just got back from our weekend! First time trying out this competition. We are a recreational studio. This competition was extremely well organized! Ran ahead of schedule for most of the weekend! Judging seemed fair! Everyone was nice and professional. Director talked to us through out the weekend and made us feel welcomed. Overall it was a great weekend!
Very disappointed in this competition when you have a dancer that has placed in first or second place in overalls at 10 other competitions this year and is not even placed at all something isn\'t right, I realize every judge is different but how can it be that far apart from 10 other competitions. Judges were very young and according to bio no tap background at all. So very disppointed.
Love this competition! Ran ahead of schedule! Judges critiques were Very informative. We will return next year!
Our first Beyond the Stars competition was a huge success! My students and parents were thrilled! Friendly staff, ahead of schedule, fair results and a positive vibe make beyond the stars a wonderful experience.
My studio attended Beyond the Stars for a second year, this time in Bridgeport, CT. We had a wonderful experience, both this year and last year. The entire competition was run in a professional manner from start to finish. Not only did it run efficiently, but it ran early. I would definitely recommend this competition to studios.
Worst Competition I\'ve ever been to! The pictures and music were horrible. The stage was so hard to dance on. Not enough room to dance without running into the wings!
This is truly the worst dance competition my daughter has ever been a part of! The music was a disaster. The dancers couldn\'t hear some music and the music they did hear was all base. We were allowed to re-do 1 dance because the music speed was slow and the judges didn\'t even watch! A waste of the girls\' energy. The stage was narrow and deep. We asked if we could push back the curtains (make-shift wings) and were told \"no.\" Our props barely would fit on stage and dancers were dancing into the curtains(wings). I guess they finally realized the dancers were crashing into them so they allowed them to be moved with 40 dances left. The professional photography was a joke. The judges heads are in every photo and cannot be cropped. There was no stage lighting. I could keep going, but trust me it was terrible!!
This is the most reliable competition around. Judging has always been fair and the staff keeps it well organized. One venue was a bit cramped (though not awful) but generally there is adequate space. I am sad that we will not compete with BTS this year as our scheduled venue sold out early. I do hope we return next year. Always a favorite!
First time at BTS this past weekend in Manahawkin and it was awesome!!! We only brought a couple of routines as it was a last minute optional comp for my studio. It was such a relaxed atmosphere! The staff were all friendly and helpful! Judging was on par! We will be back with our entire studio next year!!!!
First time attending BTS, and I will have to say we had a great time. The schedule was wonderful, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and the studios they attracted were so respectful as well. They had some tough scoring, and didn\'t hand out platinum to every number, but that is nice to see being as some competitions are handing out platinum very often and undeservingly. In the teen category, in the majority of the divisions, the first place winner only received high gold. I really enjoyed the fact that they send out dvds with the judges critiques. We hope to attend this competition again.
Probably the most reliable, well run, fair competitions we have ever been to. Usually spot on with judging and special awards... and staff is friendly, always can depend on a great experience here. Thank you BTS
What a wonderful weekend in Springfield MA. The Staff was so wonderful and accomodating and friendly...I feel tgey went over and above. The awards were fun! All of our dancers had an amazibg weekend. Great photos also
Not sure what backstage people you had at all of your events ... But I will do anything but rave about their courtesy .
This contest was run efficiently and professionally. The backstage staff was helpful and courteous. The contest ran on time and the awards ceremonies were encouraging, appropriate and just long enough. Our school did well at this event, however beyond that, either way I would have felt the same about the style and professionalism of the competition.
We just got back from Beyond the Stars, Bronx NY (Christ The King HS) and I have nothing but great things to say. Such a friendly and welcoming staff. The backstage director Jordan really knew what she was doing and that is such an ease for a nervous wreck parent like myself. Mike the DJ helped us through some last minute changes, no questions asked. The environment was very clean and they gave us no problem about requesting a sweep of glitter before my daughter\'s first solo. Would most certainly go back, and recommend to all my friends. A great, positive, environment, with staff who knows what they are doing.
Beyond the Stars is one of the best competitions out there! They are well organized and the staff is super friendly! We are a multi level studio so we definately appreciate how the competition is structured. Everything ran on time, if not early and the judges were great. The special awards are a really nice touch as well. We will def be back again next year!!!
Beyond the stars is one of the BEST competitions out there! They are well organized and very very very professional! They are always on time and always have the kids best interest at heart! We just attended this past weekend in long island and it was so fun and amazing! The awards are fun an exciting and make the kids happy to be on stage! I would recommend beyond the stars to any studio who are looking for fun exciting and well organized competition!!!
This was our second year back at this competition. It was once again a great experience for my students, parents and myself. It was very organized! We were extremely pleased!
BTS is the first competition my studio has come to in a long time and we loved it. The staff were so friendly and very helpful. The judging was fare and helpful as well. My girls are so excited to go back and so am I.
Friendly environment and very very orginized. Our studio will go back this year.
We had a great weekend! Have been going for a couple years and will continue to go back!
Our studio just returned from BTS Nationals in Atlantic City and I\'m happy to say that it was one of the best competition experiences we have had. The staff was super friendly and helpful, the judging seemed spot on, and although it was a very large event with over 60 studios and 3 rooms, everything ran VERY SMOOTHLY and was STRESS FREE !!!! We absolutely loved BTS and look forward to returning to their competitions next season!!
My name is Aggie Becker, I am a director of a studio from New Jersey. I have a multi-level team (Shooting Star, Rising Star, All Star) and so really appreciate BTS events. For the third year, we attended their Nationals in Atlantic City. Even bringing so few entries, we were able to get in the top 20 in a few allstar divisions... which was really exciting for us. Judging was super fair, we were very satisfied with this, felt they all knew what they were talking about and very fluent in all genres. This year, there were about 60 studios, and 1500 or so entries - three rooms running at once. As a studio with three levels, we were scheduled in multiple rooms. This system worked beautifully. We were always given the opportunity to see our dancers perform and talk to them before getting onstage. Never once did a staff member come into the dressing room demanding performers, they were so calm and relaxed about it which kept us all calm! There was SO much dressing space. The Arena had two huge dressing rooms with tons of tables and chairs. We did have one dancer participate in the title pageant. Although there were a lot of contestant... I LOVED how at the end all dancers were announced by name and studio again, and given the opportunity to walk out! BTS took the time to recognize each dancer again. They did this at the Ultimate Challenge too... letting us all make a little blurb about each routine and reading it before the performance, then announcing all again at the end. We only brought about 35 entries, spread out between all rooms so I was nervous but was so impressed with the time that was taken to give teachers/students recognition. Any time I had a question, I was able to speak to a BackStage manager who got ahold of the Directors quickly, also a huge plus with such a huge venue. Also had about 11 kids in the opening number, they had a great time! I love that they were able to spend time taking class and working with other teachers. Love BTS events!
We just returned from Nationals in Atlantic City, We had an amazing time. Although there were 3 separate rooms to compete in, things were very organized and ran smoothly. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, If we had 2 numbers competing in 2 different rooms at the same time, they allowed us to watch one routine in one room and then bring our next group to the other room to compete so we never missed seeing any of our dancers, we are not penalized for checking in late, this made my dancers very calm and gave them all the time they needed for hair and costume changes, The owner was always visible in the rooms and ready to answer any questions or concerns we had, There was plenty of seating for everyone in every room. They have different levels to enter your students in which makes it very fair for beginners to compete fairly and work their way up the ladder to harder levels. The awards were smooth and were broken down into smaller sessions which made it easier for the kids on stage. We were there for 6 days and time really flew by. We all had so much fun and can\'t wait to go back next year.
We just got back from Atlantic City nationals. We had a great time at regionals, and considering we are a small studio from Ohio, we brought home 6 National Champions and we are very proud of our kids. However, there were more things we didn\'t like than we did. 1)3 rooms at the same time was crazy. Having one awards for almost 500 dances was too long and the kids were exhausted. 2)title night was long, and to top it off you had a pop \"star\" sing 5 songs when 5 year olds had to go to sleep and get up early the next morning. It should have been more about the contestants paying a lot of money to compete at your nationals rather than someone who isn\'t even dancing. 3)unless you are in All Star...you don\'t matter. Trophies are smaller, there aren\'t as many ultimate awards, no ultimate challenge... Yet all the entry fees are the same. If you are going to treat the other levels less importantly, then lower their entry fees. 4) absolutely no teacher recognition. The teachers do SO much work and it was like we didn\'t even matter. 5) couldn\'t find the director when needed 6) my dancers hated opening number...they had to audition for parts that they EARNED at regionals. They got \"cut\" for sections and they never had fun in rehearsals. Other than having fun with our dance family, our expectations for being at such a huge nationals were not met. Like I said...we held our own and won in some tough categories....but our parents were I satisfied and our kids never felt special.
Love this one every year!
As a new studio owner, it was important for me to bring my students to a competition that suited them well in terms of environment, comfort level, and overall experience. For their first competition EVER in their lives, I must say we enjoyed Beyond the Stars, hands down, such a great experience! Well organized & very friendly staff! Can\'t wait for nationals! :)
I have taken my students to Beyond The Stars for 2 seasons now and it has now become one of our FAVORITE competitions! The staff is so friendly, fun and positive! WE LOVE IT!
Totally enjoyed this competition! Very organized and extremely fair!! My students enjoyed their day there! I highly recommend this competition to anyone looking for a new competition to attend!
Loved the way the comp is run and the awards are fun! Judging seems fair! Wish they would not run soooooo early! but overall great staff, fun weekend! Would go back!
This is the 3rd yr we attended BTS. It ran smoothly and our routines did wonderfully. Also attended Nationals in NJ 2013, had the best time.
Just did this one in Youngstown for the first time. Loved it. Ran well, nice award ceremony, awards were fair and distributed well. Great talent and a great weekend. We have chosen to do their nationals in Atlantic city. So looking forward to it.
Attended their event in Youngstown. Actually, a nice venue with quality seating. Polite Judges, what seemed to be very fair judging and appropriate awards. Since the venue was nice, I was able to see most of the performers for the time slots that my daughter attended and honestly the winners were the performers that I expected. (not from the school my daughter attends BTW, just excellent job) Would recommend supporting this organization. They seem to have good intentions and un biased judging.
Just did BTS for the first time. Loved it. Ran smoothly and efficiently. Felt the judging was fair and consistant. Love the awards and specials. Cant wait to attend their nationals this summer.
We have been attending BTS for about 5 years now and it is by far the most organized competition I have ever been to!! Their staff is so friendly and professional and everything just runs so smoothly. Ginny is great and very accommodating! BTS has become a competition staple for my studio and we look forward to 2015!!
We have been attending Beyond The Stars for many years. It is THE MOST friendliest competition. You can enter your students in a choice of levels so they can compete more fairly. They have 2-3 sessions so that students dont have to sit around the entire day to wait for awards. Ginny is so helpful. if you have a problem with the schedule, she is always ready to accommodate in any way she can. The judges are fair and give excellent critiques that are so helpful for the students. A video critique is given so you can watch the performance while the judges are speaking. The venue where we attended was also very nice and comfortable. I HIGHLY recommend this competition for every level dancer.
BTS has always been at the top of our list for comps! The schedule didn\'t jive for us this year but we will definitely be there next year!
Our studio has been doing compettions over 30 years. In the last several years, Beyond the Stars has become the favorite of our students and the parents. We have attended the regionals and nationals and always found it to be run very fair. The director and staff care about every studio whether you have brought one act or one hundred acts. The past couple years when we cut the number of competitions we attended due to the economy this is the one competition everyone still wants to attend!
It was very organized! The judges were fabulous! They helped me by fulfilling my request. Looking forward to the next competition!
This was a great competition. It was well run, the judging was fair, and the staff was great to work with. It unfortunately has not fit into our schedule, but we would attend again.
My neice attended beyond the stars and it was very entertaining and enjoyable.
Very organized. No snafus!!!rn
Love Beyond the Stars!! They are well organized and run on time sometimes ahead of time!! Ginny is always available when you need her!! Love Love Love!!!!
We have attended Beyond the Stars for the last four years and have had a very positive experience. I have been able to speak with the director at every competition which doesn\'t usually happen at the larger competitions.
We\'ve competed with BTS for the past 3 years and have had nothing but positive experiences with them. If they are not running on time, they are usually running AHEAD of time, which is great! Ginny and her staff make things very pleasant from the minute you register to after the awards ceremonies. We look forward to competing here in the future! :)
We have done Beyond the Stars for many years. I love the organization and friendly staff members. Competition has moved smoothly and stayed on time. This is one of the few competitions where nearly all the medals were awarded! At our event we heard an even spread of gold, high gold, platinum and some very well deserved diamond awards. Our kids are not from a mega studio and do not live at the dance studio. They were proud of the awards that they earned and felt they were appropriate. We love the atmosphere and love the fairness we see at this competition that we rarely see at other bigger name competitions.
BTS was a good competition in that many different studios were attending, so there was at least a fair amount of competition at the event! The problem was that due to the huge size of our competition, they split the venue up to have two stages. One nice large stage in the auditorium, and then for some of the 12 and under kids, they had them dancing on dance flooring they laid out on the cafeteria floor. It was crazy- you could have two dances from the same studio dancing at the same time, and your studio director would have to choose where to be. Not to mention, the cafeteria lacked lighting, good seating etc. Also, the program wasn\'t even clear about which dances were where. It didn\'t even list the times of any of the breaks or anything either; if the program was better organized, it would\'ve eased the confusion of the two different stages and everything. The staff was adequate; they weren\'t rude, and most of the backstage staff was friendly. We attended this competition in 2012- we did not return in 2013 due to the chaotic experience we had with the stages and the fact that another competition we usually attend also was taking place the same weekend.
We always enjoy BTS. Staff is great, judging mostly fair....who is every totally happy every time? Regionals better than nationals. BTS does have the best photos and videos.
We did this once. My only complaint is dancing went on in 2 rooms at once making it hard to see everyone on our team dance, and having to \"choose\" who to watch was disappointing. Also one of the rooms used for performances was a cafeteria which is less than desirable. I do not care to spend my money at competitions who overbook thus creating situations where a comp runs 3 days in 2 different rooms. Other than this I would have liked the experience very much.
