We have attended StarQuest several times and have always found it to be a well run, professional competition. This year’s venue was AWFUL though. The dressing rooms were set up with curtains on PVC pipe behind the stage, were so dark we had to leave the venue to complete lipstick changes, hair changes, etc, and so cramped that studios were having to leave by pushing through the curtains in the back and on the sides because we couldn’t get back to the front to leave. I hope this venue is ruled out for future competitions.
Hi Pippikat! Thank you so much for the information shared here. Will you please have your studio director get in touch with me, so I can find out which venue you attended this year? I want to check in with my team to see if we are going back to this venue, and to see what we can do in the future to avoid you feeling cramped, and having to exit the dressing area for hair and makeup changes! My production team may be able to help fix this for the future very easily. I'm happy to see that you had a great experience outside of the venue. Hoping to hear back! Becky Lundy - Concierge Director/Diversity & Inclusion
This was our first time using StarQuest. They did not disappoint. There Communication was great, when needing assistance. All Staff recognize you as a name not a number. They really focus on giving all dancers an opportunity to shine, learn and grow. Judging was Fair and they gave lots of great feed back. As a very small studio, our studio was recognized, and felt supported. They do not Play Favorites. I love how they have Rising Star division for dancers who are challenged, Adult and parent division and Gender Neutral Titles. :)
Hello MermaidShell! Thank you so much for your review! I appreciate that you noticed how caring our staff is, our fair judging, and our efforts to make all feel welcome! We are beyond proud of our Rising Star division and our Gender Inclusive titles. Being a place where all dancers can feel seen and safe in their dance journey is important to us. Thank you for noticing, and I hope we see you for 2025! Becky Lundy - Concierge Director/Diversity & Inclusion
I’ve been attending competitions since I was in high school and this competition was unfortunately extremely unfair. It was clear that 1 studio was being shown favoritism in every level of competition. There were also multiple dances that were put into the Nova or Classic category that should have been bumped up. The competition consistently went out of order, with no notice to the audience that they were jumping back or ahead in numbers. To consistently place at every competition we have been to, and have routines not place at all at this competition and have scores 20+ points different than other competitions, does not sit right with me as a parent or a former dancer. Going to multiple competitions is supposed to be an encouraging experience and help improve the dancer, but unfortunately at this competition, it left a lot of our kids feeling confused and discouraged about their performances.
Hello Krtz93! Thank you for letting us know about your experience. There are some concerns I have about the things you have listed. There are some reasons why we would go out of order (last minute changes/injuries, costume malfunction, etc.), but our app/projector screen/tvs around the venue should all display the dance that is on next. We added this to help everyone know where we are. If you ever have concerns about entries going out of order, you can always talk to one of our onsite staff! I'm sure they would be happy to explain. We also allow our judges to bump dances up that they believe should be in a higher level. We've gotten a lot of praise about this over the last few years, so I am concerned if this wasn't happening at your event. I would love to learn which event you went to, and speak to your studio staff regarding the event. We don't want anyone to walk away feeling discouraged. Our common goal at competitions is to help the dancers learn and grow while also providing an organized and exciting experience for all! Please feel free to have your studio director reach out to me! Becky Lundy - Concierge Director/Diversity & Inclusion Concierge@StarQuestDance.com
This was our first year attending a StarQuest even and we loved it. It I'd by far the best ran competition. The staff is soooo friendly. We just loved it. The mc remembered specifics about dances that made the kids feel special. We just felt like the staff loved being their. We can't wait to attend again. Oh and they have trophies...I mean not old fashioned one but still...trophies!!
Hi Nbmom25! Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us! We love that our staff made such an impression on you! Can't wait to see you for 2025! Becky Lundy - Concierge Director/Diversity & Inclusion
One of the most professional comps. Nice to attend a competition which runs on time.
Hi Claredances! Thank you so much for your review! Running on time is something we take very seriously. "Always On Time" was our tag-line years ago, and we do our best to uphold that to this day. We appreciate you noticing our efforts, and we hope to see you in 2025! Becky Lundy - Concierge Director/Diversity & Inclusion
I won’t say this is the worst dance competition I’ve attended as far as judging, but it is definitely a political competition. It is clear this competition chooses overalls based on repeat studios (loyalty) and not skill. This is not my first time attending this competition. When I saw that the comp now has an auditor, I was hopeful… Probably b/c I thought they were more like a 4th judge. Nope, not even close. The scoring was absolutely egregious and a slap in the face. People who shouldn’t have placed in the top 10 were in the line up when there were clearly better dancers from other studios. The judges scores didn’t match video critiques at all. When the competition completely snubbed an entire category, which had some of the best performances of the weekend, it was enough. It is safe to say I will not attend this comp again, nor will I recommend it. I attend a lot of dance competitions. I have compiled a list of comps not to patronize if you are looking for fair quality judging, this has been added to the list of comps.
Hello Danceparent12, I am very concerned about the experience you described. Judging is very important to us, and having solid critiques you can use to help your dancers grow is a top priority. I would love to learn more. Please feel free to contact me, so we may look further into this. Have you competed at a StarQuest event in the past when there was not an Auditor present? I will have to look further into this, as the Audit position has been a standard for us since we first started in 1993. It is a position we would never neglect as Judging is something in which we take great care and pride. I'd be happy to discuss this in more detail! Please reach out to me! Becky Lundy - Concierge Director/Diversity & Inclusion Concierge@StarQuestDance.com
We love StarQuest! Staff is always friendly and judging is always fair. Our dancers always have a blast at StarQuest!
Hi Paytonrrayanne! Thank you so much for your review! It is always our goal to have one of if not the friendliest staffs in the industry, so you noticing this means a lot to us. We also work hard and create protocols to ensure judges are happy, fed, and unbiased when they see your performances. I hope we get to see you again for the 2025 season! Becky Lundy - Concierge Director/Diversity & Inclusion
It was our first time going to Starquest this season. It wasn't as well attended because there were multiple comps going that weekend, and Starquest isn't as popular (yet) in San Diego, They have a dedicated app that functions well. The media was included, but it is only accessible from the phone app, which is quite limiting. Some judges gave notes that came across as pretty harsh. Not constructive.
Hello SDDM! Thank you for letting us know about your experience! Although we are not returning to San Diego for our 2025 season, I wanted you to know that we miss our San Diego studios very much! We have made significant improvements to our StarQuest app. We also have a website that parents and studio staff can use to download media directly to your computer! Please contact me if you would like more information about this! Our hope is to return to San Diego in the future, so please keep an eye out for potential 2026 dates this spring! We hope to see you again soon! Becky Lundy - Concierge Director/Diversity & Inclusion Concierge@StarQuestDance.com
I love StarQuest dance competition overall. I love the venues! Judging is fair. I've only had a problem with 1 staff member that was highly unprofessional at the 2021 World Finals in Galveston TX and I don't know his name. The adjudication awards are awesome. The awards for top score have been unfair a few of times in the past but seem to be fair in the recent seasons. The communication at StarQuest dance goes beyond my expectations with the exception of one staff member in 2021.
Hey AMTXDynamicdance! Thank you for your review! We appreciate that you notice our communication, and how we strive for fairness. I am so sad to hear about your experience with this staff member in Galveston a few years ago! Even 1 experience like this at one of our events is enough to look into! We do our best to hire a road staff that is professional, and cares deeply about creating an incredible experience for our dancers, teachers, and studio staff. I would love to learn more about this interaction you had. Please feel free to reach me at Concierge@StarQuestDance.com.
We had a wonderful time at SQ this season. Professional and on time. Highly recommend. Many awards were given and they used all the adjudications accordingly. The venue was great. The Event Director was helpful throughout the weekend, quick awards too! Thanks StarQuest!!
Hi Jamilynn3000! Thank you so much for your review! We are planning on giving even more awards for 2023! For example, we are separating our Nova and Classic titles to give even more opportunity for recognition. We take pride in being able to help studios have a great time onsite, so hearing your Event Director was helpful is a huge compliment! I’d love to praise them! If you have time, will you send me an email with the event you went to, so I can share your feedback? Please let us know if there is anything you need, and I hope we see you next time! Really wished I would of listened to the reviews about you guys catering to big studios. That was my fault in thinking giving you guys a try. It’s definitely a one and done type of competition for us. You definitely couldn’t of made it any more obvious. Also why would you have nova dancers competing against the elite dancers for titles? I would of never even tried to enter my daughter had I known that.
Hello Danze1, Please reach out to me about your experience with us. It is important to me to know which event you attended, so that I can look into these things. We make a point to make sure our staff and judges know that it doesn't matter if you bring 1 dance or 100 dances, we are dedicated to fairness across the board. If you experienced something different, I would love the opportunity to see what happened. It is also important to me to look into the title situation you've described. We currently have 2 levels of titles. Elite Dancer is our title for the Elite or Select level of competition. Our Classic and Nova level dancers compete for the title of Emerging Artist. For 2023, we plan to make the Nova level it's own title. If your dancer was in the Nova level for solos, but was up against Select level dancers, this is definitely something that needs to be rectified! Please have your studio director contact me at their earliest convenience. email: becky@starquestdance.com. I look forward to hearing from you or your studio. Becky Lundy - Concierge Director
Our studio likes this competition. The judging is consistent and usually runs on time.
Hi ElleB! Thank you so much for your review! We do our best to monitor the judges throughout the weekend to make sure they are giving the best feedback, as well! I'm so happy your studio enjoys the events! Please let us know if there is anything you or your studio needs for the future, and I hope I see you next time! Becky Lundy - Concierge Director
We have been going to Starquest for about five years now and we have always had a great experience. Truly one of the most organized and well run competitions. Not to mention they put on a great show and make it feel extremely special at every event. Our kids always have a great experience with the backstage staff and the MC. Their pricing is right in line with everyone else’s and the nice thing is they have all of their media now included. Even though you have to pay an extra fee for it it is well worth it and some of the best quality video and photo out there. We get the best critiques out of every competition we have ever been to. The judges talk the entire time and provide quality feedback that can actually be used. Highly recommend trying them out!
After reading all the negative reviews, I'm left wondering why this competition is still operating. Then I realized that they're operating because they cater to the dance studios more so than the dancers and parents. BY NOT PUBLISHING THE COMPETITION/REGISTRATION FEES, dance studios have the opportunity to collect a HUGE STIMULUS CHECK after each competition! This is their incentive to re-register every year, sometimes multiple times per year! BY NOT PUBLISHING THE COMPETITION/REGISTRATION FEES, dance studios are allowed and encouraged (by SQ) to inflate the fees, taking home a little extra for themselves. Where is the transparency SQ? Where is the integrity SQ?
Hello Notyouraveragedancemom, I would love to talk more with you about this. Many studios handle competition fees differently, so we keep our fees on the studio side of things, so that people do not get confused. We trust our studios to make decisions about fees for their families. This is also, as we understand it, an industry norm. It does sadden me that you perceive this as us being dishonest, but I also understand that as a parent, you have to do what is best for your family. Our door will always be open to discuss these things with you, or if you choose to return in the future. I hope you can still look back on the experiences you've had with us cherish the memories of your dancer performing on our stage. I do recommend reaching out to your studio directors if you feel you have been wronged in any way, or to us to discuss this further. Though you may disagree with our current protocols, we are always open to feedback. Becky Lundy - Concierge Director
After so many positive reviews, I decided to give this competition a try. Bad idea. The judging was by far the WORST I have seen in a while. They do not take into account technique, and give the highest scores and most awards to the studios with the most routines entered. Worst of all, a studio, who had a great trio, was scored low because they were african american and were judged by three white judges. Not a single male judge, and I feel as if it was not only biased but prejudice as well. Do better.
Hello danceislifealways, Please give me a call! It is important that I dig deep into your issues as the Lead Concierge at SQ, but also as a black woman in this industry. Prejudice and racism is not tolerated at our events in any way. If we have judges that are scoring based on racial bias, I need to know who they are, so I can investigate much further. Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention! My information is below. Please get in touch with me ASAP. I also want to talk about your scores and critiques. Our judges are trained to score based on 45% technique, 45% performance ability, 10% choreography/appropriateness. If this isn't reflected in the scores and critiques, I definitely need to track this down. Although it may feel awkward to talk about, I would appreciate the opportunity to fully understand what happened at this event. Becky Lundy (Lead Concierge) becky@starquestdance.com 919.363.2900
By far the worst experience we’ve ever had. Assuming we were the only ones we were going to count our losses until we found out 2 other studios dropped out even AFTER they made the finals. The venue is great but the judges were awful. All females, all white and not 1 male or any other represented demographic. After listening to the critiques we decided not to let our dancers listen to them. They were judged on their body type despite several companies coming onstage in pretty much bikinis. Not 1 judge was knowledgeable in hip hop or jazz funk and although our studio isn’t a hip hop studio we saw with our own eyes a hip hop routine placed extremely low in comparison to 4 girls who clearly weren’t strong in the genre who placed much higher. I must saw the company that placed low was an African American studio. They were actually really good in many areas but their hip hop was great. They had school desks and reminded me of world of dance. One guy placed 2nd in a hip hop solo that clearly was not hip hop. Studios who brought in 50+ dances were the ones who made it to final. Those studios were good especially the 1s who FINALLY ended up winning when they brought in another white woman, 1 black woman and 1 mixed woman for finals. Still no males and there were plenty dancing. Unsure why they thought an all white panel then 2 black females would show variety but even their resumes weren’t too stunning excluding the 3 they brought in for finals. Never have we been to a competition where studios dropped out or dancers showed such disappointment onstage. Yes we believe in good sportsmanship but when it’s so blatant that the judging is off I don’t blame any of those dancers for giving the Makayla Maroney “unimpressed” look. This competition has gone down and we don’t recommend ANYONE to attend or “give it another chance”. As for the reviews on technique. They’re right. These judges are not knowledgeable in the genres they list on their website. Calling a step a “thingy” or “spin” is not ok. Judges should only be judging genres they know. If you can’t find any knowledgeable in all you list or at least all that’s coming to your competition then hire more judges and rotate them out. There’s nothing wrong with having honesty. We coaches, parents and our dancers would 100% respect and appreciate that. But then again, that’s more money they’d have to spend. So we know that’s not happening. I recommend going to the more evolved competitions that are run and owned by WORKING ENTERTAINERS not someone looking for a meal ticket.
Hello honesty, Thank you so much for your feedback, we take every review very seriously. I would love the opportunity to talk with you if you are willing to dig deeper into your concerns. We always want to improve and this is a golden opportunity to take advantage of that. I can also share a few facts to clarify several topics listed to ensure you have accurate and truthful information. Please call me or email me to set up a time to talk. Becky Lundy (Head Concierge) 919.363.2900 becky@starquestdance.com
Judging is seriously off. Seems like technique is not accounted for. Dancers seriously lacking in technique were given platinums? Nothing made sense about the adjudications whatsoever. Felt like it was the twilight zone. Horrible comp. Two of my friends in the comp world said this competition used to be great but apparently it has went downhill. Will not waste my hard earned money ever again at this comp. They seem to only care about money and how much they can take of it. Cheap awards. For the size of this comp, they need to step it up in so many areas. There are better comps out there. You have been warned. The only positive thing I can honestly say is that the one staff member I encountered was extremely friendly and helpful. I can’t really judge the staff based off one person so for staff I give 3 stars.
Hello DanceMom123, I am sad to hear that you will no longer be joining us. As heartbreaking as it is to hear, I would appreciate speaking with you about your thoughts. Direct feedback is the best way for us to address and change things for the future. Judging is something we take very seriously. We check in with the judges often, and address any concerns with them after each segment. Do you have specific entries you are concerned about? Did you share these concerns with your director? Please, at your earliest convenience have your director give me a call! It is important to me to investigate these entries, and escalate the concerns, so we do not continue a trend if this is the case! I also do not want you to think I am avoiding the awards! Getting specifics on this will, also, help us move forward. We create new designs for our awards every offseason, so this feedback would be greatly appreciated, as well. Please let me know if you or your director has time to talk next week. Becky Lundy (Head Concierge) Becky@StarQuestDance.com
We were very excited to try this competition for the first time but left feeling utterly confused. The judging was very biased. We are a small to mid size studio and our routines have all consistently scored platinum, high platinum and elite platinum all season long until we came here and high gold was the standard. This was our first and last time we will be attending this comp sadly. The judging was very biased and in favor of the bigger studios. It was very obvious which studio you were from because of the block scheduling, hair styles and costume choices. Platinum adjudications were given out to dancers with no technical ability whatsoever, dancers who fell on stage and also dancers who forgot their routines and froze on stage. Another question we were all pondering was - Is this a dance competition or an acting competition? It seemed like technique was not a huge factor at this competition whatsoever. The judging was honestly a mess and all over the place. For the title competition, they collect $45 per dancer and even though they have beginner, intermediate and advanced categories, the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels were all competing against each other for the EA title. If I had known this I never would have wasted $45. There were over 60 people competing for titles at this particular competition. Come on Starquest. Can you not afford to hand out a few extra awards with all the money you are collecting? After reading through these reviews, it appears that our observations are indeed valid since so many people are saying the same things. Disappointed we wasted money at your comp and no, our studio owner will not be in contact with you. She has made the decision we will not be returning thankfully. The only other thing worth mentioning and actually very serious is that while this comp states everyone attending has to wear masks, they don't abide by their own rules. The little old lady who sat at the door when we first entered the building was not wearing a mask. Come on Starquest, you need to do better than this! Safety is obviously not a priority for their staff. This comp is all about $$$ Update Edit: we received the critiques. One particular judge scored our routines lower by almost 20 points each than the other 2 judges. Shady indeed!
DanceParent10, Thank you for sharing your experience, so I can immediately touch base with my team. Can you share which event you were competing in? Venue staff not wearing masks is absolutely not something we condone. Mask wearing is not optional to us, ever! Was this brought to the attention of the SQ staff onsite? While block scheduling has been different, judges should not let this affect their scores. We check in with them often about the performances, and check their critiques multiple times a day. The judges critiques should give all of the insights on why the judges scored the way they did. I would love to speak with you more about this aspect of your review. While I agree that judging can be different from week to week, as every judging panel is different, technique is 45% of the overall score and every entry should be treated this way! I understand if this event is the last experience you will have with us, but I would appreciate the ability to discuss this further, so I can address these concerns for the future, and bring more specifics to my executive board. All feedback is an opportunity for us to grow and learn. Please have your director get directly in touch with me. Becky Lundy (Head Concierge) Becky@StarQuestDance.com
This competition is so popular, yet is obviously biased. Now, I don’t care if my kids win awards or not, but when there’s a problem that’s not okay anymore. This competition gave a 12 year old in novice first place in 12-14 advanced solos? And the wack judging is really the only bad thing, which is a shame because it was a fun competition, just Biased. My 5 year old daughter had a Jazz duo in advanced and it won 1st in junior lyrical novice??? I’m confused, hopefully they can clear this up. But still, another competition that seems like they’re only worried about $.
Hello dancecomplifesince2005, I am very concerned about this! I absolutely want to make sure we have the correct information to move forward, so the correct top scores are given! Which event were you attending? Did you or your director bring this up to the Tour Manager? I would appreciate the ability to look further into this. We triple check our work, but it is imperative to me to find where this went wrong, and make the necessary adjustments with my staff. Please get in contact with me, so I can find out what happened! Becky Lundy (Head Concierge) Becky@starquestdance.com
I really enjoyed this competition. It was well ran and fairly judged. My only complaint was how they ran their awards ceremony. I couldn't follow as they were jumping around, instead of going in order.
Hi midancemom, Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. I would love to know more about the ceremonies of your weekend. We want to make sure we have the right balance of recognition for the kids, and the awards not being too lengthy. Gaining more information about this can help us as we enter training for the 2020 season. It will mean a lot to hear your feedback. Becky Lundy (Head Concierge) 919-363-2900
This competition is one of my favorites, it has always been a great one to attend. they have all the rooms close to where you can get to either back stage or if you are a parent you can get to the auditorium really fast after a quick outfit change. the judges have always been very nice and fair, they give great feedback to our kids. if we do not go to this one my daughter is usually very sad. thanks for being awesome!
Hi nmkdancer, Thank you so much for your review! It means a lot to us. What event does your studio attend for SQ? Positive feedback about venues can help us make sure we continuously come back. It isn't always easy to find places with an excellent layout for quick changes. I'm so happy you also appreciate the judging! It is important to us to make sure our judges give you as much information as possible to help your dancer improve. We hope we are getting the opportunity to see you this year! Becky Lundy (Head Concierge)
Wowza! What a mess of a competition. These guys and gals are an impolite group of youngsters, working hard for endless hours each weekend to give us something that turns out increasingly horrendous each time. This was our final year with SQ (thank God), and it could not have come soon enough. Jesus himself can not help this competition get itself together. They need to close and realize the good ol days of SQ being the star it was are way behind them.
Hi Jackson5, Wowza indeed! While it hurts to read reviews like this, it is vitally important for me to learn more about your feelings about the events you've experienced. I am especially concerned about your feeling that the staff has been impolite. We hire people who we believe have the need to serve others as well as being capable in their positions. Have you shared your concerns with your Studio Director? Please have them give me a call at your earliest convenience. Our hope is to continue improving, and your feedback may be helpful in doing so. Becky Lundy (Head Concierge) (919) 363-2900
Have attended Starquest for three years, including 2 national competitions. We are a small recreational studio and always loved being treated just as special as the big guys. We are not attending Starquest this year as they have required a studio package fee for each dancer. Most of my students only perform in one dance so this a 50% increase per child for us. If they ever do away with this required additional fee, we would definitely consider returning.
Hello BD123, I'm sad to hear that you will not be returning this year. We put our media package in place to lessen the cost of photos and videos for all families. Video and photo prices were getting difficult to keep down, but this way, we can offer a way lower price for all, and everyone gets everything. Have you spoken to your studio concierge about the media package yet? Please give us a call, so we can make sure you have all of the info! There are features that may help save your families some money. We would love to host you again! We may be able to help you find a way. (919) 363-2900 Becky Lundy (Head Concierge)
Staff was friendly. Competition was organized and had fun. We went over a holiday weekend so it was a smaller competition. Judging was fair.
Hi Heather, Thank you so much for your review! We are glad you and your dancers had a great time! Our staff strives to make sure that the event is a blast for every single performer. Thank you for sharing your feedback and for joining us for the holiday weekend! Hope to see you next time! Becky Lundy (Head Concierge)
StarQuest is not worth it. Do not give them your time or money.
Hello proppop, Thank you for giving feedback. It doesn't feel good to get comments like these, but it is important for us to grow from all input. Giving you and your kids a great competition experience is our primary goal. I would love to learn more about why you feel this way about the value of our events. Please have your studio director give me a call about your concerns. 919-363-2900 Thank you. Becky Lundy (Head Concierge)

What has happened to you SQ. You fired people we all love. And don't tell us they are in different cities. Your employees don't lie to all of us like MIC. So sad. Video girl from 2 years ago ws great. She danced with everyone. Knew all the songs. We loved having Becky around too! Judging has been somewhat unfair for this last year or so. The breakup of dancers into levels has not made much sense. How does every nova dancer getting the best award help anyone? Come on SQ. Get your head back in it.
Hey Irb! This is Becky! I'm still here!! I'm working in the office helping to inspire the Event Concierge team, but I'm sorry to have missed you this year. Sad that you were unable to see your video friend this year. With competition season being only 6-8 months out of the year, many of our road staff are unable to come back. Your experience with the Judges and Nova level concern me! Have you shared this with your studio director? I would love to hear more about your experience at the event this year. Please have your studio director get in contact with me as soon as possible. 919-363-2900 | becky@staquestdance.com Becky Lundy (Head Concierge)
Being at StarQuest is like being at a competition where all the employees are chickens with their heads cut off. Nobody is organized or has answers about anything. They always send you to someone else to get an answer, so you will never get your answer. Oh boy.
Hi Rob, Please give me a call or have your studio director give me a call as soon as possible. I want to make sure I get you an answer to the question you had! We pride ourselves in every staff member being able to answer any rules related questions, so learning more about your experience is incredibly important to me and will help my staff grow. I look forward to speaking more about this with you. Office: 919-363-2900 ext 8220 concierge@starquestdance.com Becky Lundy (Head Concierge)
We (the parents) are not excited for SQ after last year. This is the last chance we are giving them. They are unprofessional and discourteous. Everything for them is not about 'family and fun' as they say but money as every reviewer here says! Such a junkie comp, but the dancers always have such a good time which is why it is hard not to go back. You try saying no to a begging performer...
Hello Shays, Thank you for your feedback. Your message concerns me. It is imperative for me to learn more about your experience with our staff. Please have your studio director contact me directly. We hire our team keeping in mind that they should all be the type of person that is dedicated to the service of others, and it sounds like you did not experience this. I hope to hear from your director soon. concierge@starquestdance.com Becky Lundy (Head Concierge)
They are the BEST competition in the industry. I have no complaints!!
Hi dantarr, Thank you for your kind words! We are happy that you hold us in such strong regard. Hope to see you back on the stage soon. Becky Lundy (Head Concierge)
SQ staff is one of the best we deal with. Judging was great and event ran on time.
Hi bakerbaker, Thank you for your review! Our primary goal is to create an event where all you have to do is walk in, and focus on your kids. I'm so excited that you had such a great time with our staff, and that our judges met your expectations. Thanks again, Becky Lundy (Head Concierge)
From Gwen's husband: Finally there are more music videos between songs! I would say that was the only positive of the weekend. Sadly, the girl working back stage that my daughter and I enjoyed singing, dancing (my daughter), and talking with (me) only was with SQ for a season. Bad idea letting that lady go! The employees are pretty horrible now.; they don't seem happy or nice and as many people have noted, they are faker than many of my son's girlfriends. The awards were ok, but too LONG. The days felt longer than necessary also.
Hi Gwen and Gwen's husband, It is possible that the employee you are mentioning is still with the company! We have four events running simultaneously almost every weekend, so your preferred stage manager may have just been at a different SQ city. Our work is also seasonal. Our competition season spans from January through May with World Finals following. This leads to some staff members only being able to complete 1 season as they find other employment. I hope to learn more about your interactions with the staff. Our staff's experience is important to us, as well. Them having a good time helps the kids have a good time. I would like to learn more about your experience. Did you share this experience with your studio director? Please have them give me a call or send me an email at their earliest convenience! (becky@starquestdance.com) Thanks for your feedback. Becky Lundy (Head Concierge)
Starquest used to be my absolute favorite competition. But sadly I have to say we aren’t attending this year. 60+ solos... In the INTERMEDIATE DIVISION! They had to announce a top 20! At a regionals! As you can imagine that awards ceremony was unbelievably long, and a large percentage of those entires clearly belonged in a higher division. One studio took almost every spot in the top ten and 80% of the special awards. Q Then when we got to trios and groups in the same division, there was a fraction of that many numbers. And the studio who competed all of their solos in the intermediate level were then in competitive. We were in a fantastic venue with a great stage and many spaces for dressing rooms, and we were in the balcony. This Was very difficult as we had to carry all of our big suit cases up 3+ flights of stairs! In the past the staff was so accommodating, and the awards were so efficient and we had an excellent time. But this past year was just not good. The competition has excellent merchandise and great trophies and plaques. The competition gives out a really great amount of special awards and the competition kindness award is a great initiative. However none of that is enough to outweigh the issues from last year.
Hi Cdancer01, Thank you for writing in. Your review is of great concern to me. It seems like this past year we didn't hit the mark for you on all counts, as we used to. Which event did you attend? Did you share your concerns with your studio director? Please have them give me a call! It is essential for me to look into your experience, so I can fully understand your concerns onsite with levels, awards, and the dressing room space. I hope to hear from them soon. Learning more about these things may help me give some insight into why some of these things may have happened, and possibly help us improve for you and other dancers in the future. Becky Lundy (Head Concierge) (919) 363-2900.
I hate going to SQ. Every year it gets worse. The people who work there always are running around and not helping or listening to us when we need help. sorryi'm not the one paying but my parents are. This costs a lot. You should help us when we need, not just our teachers and parents. You guys are so uncool. Your awards are horrible and unfair and the judges don't know what they are talking about lots of the time. They nitpick on dumb stuff.
Hi racheee, Your review is one of the worst things we can hear from a dancer. We have one of the largest staffs in the industry so that there is always someone available to help you when you need it, and that should always include the dancers. What you have described is the complete opposite of the way we want you to leave feeling from an SQ event! It is so important for us to learn about these things, so we can stop them from happening in the future. Please please have your studio director contact me about your experiences. I'll be able to share with them how we will coach our staff to make sure this never happens to you or any other dancer again. Your director can call the main SQ phone number, and ask for Becky. Thank you for your feedback! We need to hear the good and the bad, so we can make sure we are creating the best environment for everyone. Becky Lundy (Head Concierge)
I love this comp! I have participated for years and hopefully I will continue until I can no longer dance at my studio. There are amazing staff and they are fun too. The judges are amazing too they were not focusing on all the things I messed up on but they still gave me the critiques in a nicer and calmer way. They have good MC's too. The awards were smooth and they tried their hardest to pronounce names correctly. Love this.
Hi Ayoungblood, Thanks for the feedback! It is exciting to know that you appreciated our staff and judges. Creating a positive environment for all dancers is important to us. That positivity should extend to the critiques you take home. We are thrilled that you feel like your critiques will help you grow, and kept you uplifted. Can't wait to see you next time! Becky Lundy (Head Concierge)
They are all about money and business. Not dance. Why do I need to be asked to rate a dance competition because someone does something nice for me and my daughter. For that, you get a bad rating. No thanks. We will be going somewhere less business oriented next comp.
Hello Jgreen, I’m happy you mentioned something about your interaction with our staff on site. When a team member of ours does something outstanding (as I believe they often do), the last thing they should be thinking of is 'a review'. We hire people who do what they do because they love what they do. No reciprocation required. Period. I’d like to think that the intention of the Road Warrior was sincere, but what you describe sounds like it has been received as the total opposite. I’m sorry that moment tainted your experience of the event. Would you be willing to share details about your experience? Your feedback will help me and the SQ leadership team better coach our office & road staff on scenarios like this. I welcome you to email or call me. Thanks again for your feedback, I want to make sure no other guests feel the way you felt at the end of the event. - Becky (Head Concierge) Becky@StarQuestDance.com (919) 363-2900 x 8220
I danced and worked for SQ. I have never felt more shame for a comp. If I could go back and not dance for SQ and not have my photos promoting them, I would. They treat the dancers horribly. They act like we are so important and suck up to us, but our favorite people aren't even working there year to year. It's like they bring the worst people back year to year to work with them! This website can keep deleting my reviews for "violating terms of use" (I am not, I read them), but I will keep reviewing so SQ cannot hide the truth. They are horrible.
DiamondDance, Thank You for your feedback. Every review we receive is taken into account when we plan the systems and protocols that help cultivate great teams and experiences. We pay close attention to environment and culture and I believe this sets the stage for the consistently positive experiences our dancers receive. I’m disappointed upon reading your perspective. It sounds as if working with us was not in sync with your expectations based on your performing experiences. Your words are in conflict with the core intention of the company and reflect the opposite of the culture our staff and guests’ experience. For a seasonal business, we enjoy a high rate of returning road warriors. There are also multiple Road Warriors who have been elevated to our leadership team over the years. It is these future leaders who enhance the experience for our staff and create great memories for our guests year after year. I sincerely hope you contact me directly with specific thoughts on how you think we can improve. Respectfully, Becky Lundy, Head Concierge StarQuest, Becky@StarQuestDance.com
The venue was fantastic. The staff was friendly, helpful and accommodating. The feedback and scores were solid. I agree with some others that the scoring system is confusing for nova and classic. The were a few technical glitches with the wrong dance/dancer being shown on the screen, but it was the first weekend. A few kinks are expected. We were pleased with most everything. Enough to decide we are coming to VA Beach Nationals!
Hello Lmo78, Thank you for your feedback! It sounds like you mostly had a great time, but had some confusion. What about the scoring for Nova and Classic levels confuses you? I would appreciate learning more from you, so we can possibly make things easier for everyone! Can you have your studio director check in with me about your concerns? Email: becky@starquestdance.com I will also check in with my road staff about the incorrect videos being played during awards. This feedback will help our staff grow! Thank you so much! Becky Lundy (Head Concierge)
I had an outstanding time at StarQuest! You could tell the judges were very qualified not only by reading their bios in the program, but by the helpful critiques they gave to myself and my team. The critiques they did give us will greatly benefit us as we continue our competition season moving forward. The competition ran on time, if not, earlier at times. The competition had different categories for different levels of dancers. While being backstage, the crew was very professional and friendly. The dance studios that attended were all very nice to us. One of the studios even gave us Hershey kisses to wish us luck. It was a really great, positive start to my team’s competition season! I would definitely recommend this competition to anybody who wants a great experience!
Hi Sara, So happy our team could help you and your team start the competition season off with a bang! Helping dancers grow is one of the most important aspects of competition to us, and it seems like we hit the mark for you all. I'm happy that you noticed the timeliness and positivity we strive for and shared by other studios. We try to present an atmosphere that promotes support from all of us, and it is great that your dance community shares that! Hope to see you and your team again in the future! Becky Lundy (Head Concierge)
I had a wonderful experience at starquest last weekend. The staff backstage was very helpful and welcoming. The staff also double checked how we started every routine to ensure that we would not have any issues with the music starting too early or late. The other studios attending the competition were courteous, supportive and kind. I was really impressed by the interactions between the different studios backstage! The atmosphere at this competition was overall very fun, positive and uplifting. I felt the judges critiques were very positive and will benefit both my team and I throughout our competition season. The dressing rooms were perfect because there was plenty of space designated for each individual studio as well as tables to apply your makeup and do your hair. I had an overall great experience at starquest!
Hi Devynne! We are so excited that you had a great experience with our staff this weekend! Which event did you attend? I'd love to share your dressing room feedback with my booking department, so we can make sure we continue to give your area the best dressing rooms spaces possible! We are also very proud of our staff who seems to have helped your team and others get off on the ""right foot""! :) Can't wait to see what you and your team bring next time! Becky Lundy (Head Concierge)
This was my first time attending a StarQuest Competition, and I highly enjoyed it. The competition ran on time, even ahead sometimes. I really enjoyed their award ceremony, it was easy to follow along with. Another bonus about this competition is the pictures and videos that come with the media fee. The pictures and videos were great, they got a lot of beautiful pictures. The backstage staff was so friendly, helpful and professional. They were never annoyed that we were asking how many numbers we had until our dance. They even checked to see if we had props and how we started on stage. The judges also gave me really good feedback on my solo and the group dances I was in. I believe the judging was fair and thorough. The critiques were insightful for me. The other studios in attendance were nice and supportive. It created a positive atmosphere. Overall, I was really impressed with StarQuest. I would highly recommend this competition to others!
Hello Angeline! I appreciate your wonderful recommendation! Our on-site staff seems to have given you a great experience from beginning to end this year. It is awesome that you noticed how important it is to us to run an on-time and enjoyable event. I am thrilled that the media package and judges critique added to your enjoyment, once you got home, as well! I hope we get to see you and your studio family next year, or maybe even at World Finals! Becky Lundy (Head Concierge)
My daughter found the dancers from other studios to be respectful, friendly, and welcoming! The feedback from the judges was positive, fair, and encouraging, while providing immediately usable feedback as we move on through the competition season. In addition, we were traveling with a woman with mobility issues, and she was treated with kindness and respect, and was even invited to use staff facilities to minimize inconvenience to her. We had a fantastic weekend and can’t wait to come back!
Hi Traci! It is amazing to hear that your family had such a great time at the event! I'm so excited that you found the critiques helpful and uplifting. We have spent years speaking to directors and judges to create a system that will help dancers grow while keeping their spirits intact. Our onsite staff check critiques regularly to make sure you get the best we can give. We also train all of our staff to treat every guest as they would their own family, and I know they take this very seriously. Excited to see what you bring next time! Becky Lundy (Head Concierge)

As mentioned by other people who have reviewed this competition, they do not introduce their judges or state their experience. They just say that they are highly qualified. Their adjudication process is all over the place. Routines with major technique problems, dancers forgetting their routines, and fumbles score significantly higher than routines that do not have as noticable technical errors. During Photogenic Awards they forgot to call my daughter to receive her "participation pin." Additionally, we found out after the competition that she was nominated for the costume award, which provides those dancers with a pin for the nomination. They conviently forgot to call my daughter as a nominee and did not give her a pin. It is a very strong "coincidence" that so many things happened to just one dancer. When I went to express my disappointment and professionally discuss my concerns, the staff assured me that they would not approach our studio director, but they went behind my back and did. I am not happy with my experience at this competition. We have been to more than a dozen different competitions, and this is by far the worse!
Hi Ellen, Within 24 hours after the event in Lancaster an executive board member reached out to your competition director to clear up any confusion and offer them additional insights as to how our adjudication process works. We welcome you to reach out to your director for clarity on all the topics you mentioned above. Communication with our studio directors is a #1 priority for us since they act as the official representative of the dancers and parents. Best wishes on the remainder of your completion season. We hope we have the opportunity to host your daughters again in the future. Respectfully The StarQuest Concierge Team
I so don't recommend this comp
Hi danceislyfeee, Thanks for your feedback. Though getting negative feedback doesn't feel good, I am greatful that you had a chance to voice your opinion so that we can continue to level up for other dancers in the future. I'd like to know what about the event was not to your liking so I can look into what we can make better in the future. I welcome you to have your studio direcotor reach out to me becky@starquestdance.com Becky Lundy (Head Concierge)
Referring to last year's competition (between work and kids I forgot about this until now), I need to say the reason we will not be competing this year is because our first year we had a fantastic time and last year was just ok. Our first year, there were some great people back stage who were fun and took care of my son and daughter (and my son didnt even compete! ) the whole day when they had questions. Especially the "competur girl" (as my daughter called her). The employees danced with the kids and just had an all around fun time, but last year nobody went above and beyond. It was a let down. We would rather compete with other competitions that have employees who have time to have more fun with the kids!
Hello LJ, It sounds like your experience last season at my event was not what you expected it to be. We hire our team for their amazing attitudes and ejoyment of the on-site experience. If one of our road teams didn't meet you expectations, I'd enjoy learning more, about it. The best way for our team to get stronger is the feedback from our studios. Would you please have your studio director contact me as soon as possible? Phone: (919) 363-2900 ext 8220. Email: Becky@starquestdance.com Becky Lundy (Head Concierge)
Too many people. We were forgotten in our little corner of the room. Everyone gets a good score despite their inability to dance. Waste of money in this day and age when everyone is a **star**. How about we stop coddling our kids and teach them that life isn't always fair?
Hi ballerinatheresa, Which event did you all attend this year? I'd like to look further into the scoring. We have a staff member onsite who keeps a strong eye on the scores, and it is important to us that there is a range that reflects the talent of the particular city. I'd love to gain more insights from you about this! Please let me know if you have time to contact me, so I can hear more in depth about your thoughts! Becky Lundy (Head Concierge) (Email - Concierge@StarQuestDance.com)
Very large competition, ran on time.
Hi Star667810! Thank you for your feedback! Is the size of our event the reason why you gave a 3 out of 5? I'd love to learn more about which event you went to, and I'd love to learn what your thoughts would be on limiting the size of the event. This way, I can pass your feedback along to be considered! Let me know if you would be interested in giving feedback!
My little girl has been talking about ballet and dancing ballet since she could walk. When her dance teacher suggested joining a competition team, we were hesitant and decided StarQuest would be the only one we try this year because of its reputation. They must have a great marketing team, because my husband and I were extremely disappointed with the event. This will be our daughter's first and last competition. The judges are very harsh on the younger age groups, and for all the critiques they give, none of them seem to actually have a helpful tip to help the children learn or grow. In addition, the staff is horrendous and anything but friendly, happy, and willing to lend a hand.
Hello Showmomma, It is important to me to look further into your concerns! I would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with your studio director about your experience, so I can address everything you've portrayed, and make sure our managers address everything accordingly. I am leaving my office phone number, below. I hope we can touch base soon! -Becky Lundy (Head Concierge) (919-363-2900 ext 8220)
it seems like this whole Starquest weekend was a bunch of false advertising. i pay an arm and leg to get costumes and props, etc and even more to join a competition which is just a big let down and a whole mess! The lead person for the weekend-TM maybe?- was always in a rush and never had time to talk to us because we are a small studio. The stage manager was extremely rude and short with us. And i want to echo thoughts of people below who said the merchandise sellers are impolite. Nothing could be more true. The kids were looking forward to seeing -probably buying- photos and videos, but those were horrible too. For a competition that has been around for so long, I'm surprised they are so bad in every aspect of the weekend. There was no saving grace at all and I have never been so disappointed.
Hello Coffeeguy! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. It seems like you left my competition feeling a lack of care was given to you and your studio. We try to create an environment where the only thing you need to worry about is getting your kids onstage to perform. We hire for personality as well as job experience to make sure we have a group of people who can happily create the experience your kids deserve. Hearing the experience you had makes it sound like we fell short on this for your studio, and that is not ok. Could you please have your studio director give me a call about your concerns? I would love more information about how you were treated, so I can bring it to the attention of my onsite managers. -Becky Lundy (Head Concierge) (919-363-2900 ext 8220)
The people who sold us our shirts and programs last year were ruder than we could have imagined. We have heard such great things about Starquest, but nothing was running well or on time and their staff is not the nicest. I do not recommend it one bit, but our girls talked us into going back. We hope it is better this year, if not this will definitely be the last. I mean, come on, a pin as a prize for wining? Our girls deserve better with all the money we are spending.
Hello Janet! What event did you compete at this year? It sounds like you had a very frustrating experience with us. Do you remember the name of the person who helped you? We go into the hiring season looking for people who not only have experience for the job, but who are excited to be in the service of others, and who care about giving great service. Please have your studio director give me a call, it is important to me to look into this! -Becky Lundy (Head Concierge) (919) 363-2900 ext 8220
We have attended Starquest just about every year since 2005. We love, love, love this competition! They run on time, their awards are on point and the pictures and videos you get with the media fee are at such a value price! At our wrap up meeting last evening, when asked what their favorite competition was this season every parent and dancer said 'Starquest'! They love it! The venue in Providence at PPAC is one of the best, the dressing room assignments are top notch, the critiques are valuable and the Special Awards mean something. They added Livestream this year and let many Grandparents watch from home instead of driving to the event. WE LOVE STARQUEST! It's already on our schedule for next season-it's a 'given'.
Hi silvercity21! Thank you for your heartwarming review! The dressing room assignments, critiques, and media package are all things we've put into place to make the parents' and studio directors' lives easier. It is important to us to make sure that when you walk into an event, all you have to worry about is getting your kids onstage. It is great to know that this makes a difference for you and your families! Thank you so much for sharing! - Becky Lundy (Head Concierge)
StarQuest was the very first dance competition that my daughter, Haley, competed in at the age of 5. We competed with StarQuest every year until this year where at the age of 17, she competed for her final time. This competition has and will always be very special to us! The backstage staff have always been so amazing. They were helpful, always had such kind words and made competing everything that it should be. FUN! StarQuest has always provided great judges, who were well versed in all styles of dance. This is not true of all dance competitions. Haley has always been a tapper, and to have judges who knew tap and provided real judging was very important to us! Their feedback was always constructive and helped her grow as a tapper. The awards and the competition as a whole are always very well run! The way that dances and dancers are scheduled always gave more than enough time to allow for costume changes. We may be moving on to a different chapter in our lives, but we are always going to remember the great experiences we had at StarQuest competitions.
Hey melissamery, It is so awesome to hear about how Haley has grown up with StarQuest. You and Haley are important members of the Starquest family, and I am so thrilled that she loved her final competition experience with us. Thank you for the great comments about our backstage staff! They are selected during the hiring process based on their incredibly kind personalities, and their tendency towards customer service. The Road Warriors are always working to make your competition FUN, family friendly, and fair. I'm also glad that you appreciate the scope of our judges. When we are assigning judges to cities, we try to ensure that as many styles and genres of dance are encapsulated by their expertise as possible. It is always great to know that their comments were helpful in aiding a dancer's growth. Your comments about our awards and scheduling are also greatly appreciated, Melissamery! Thank you so much for your wonderful review, and for being StarQuest family for the past 12 years. I wish you and Haley a wonderful rest of your season. - Becky, Head Concierge.
Never had less fun at a SQ comp
Hey Ilovedance22much, Wow... It sounds like you didn't have an awesome experience at a StarQuest event. I would love to know why you didn't have fun. The Road Warriors work their hardest to ensure every competition experience is fun, family-friendly, and fair! Please, feel free to have your studio director reach out to me at becky@starquestdance.com if they have any questions. - Becky, Head Concierge
Scheduling difficulties kept us away from StarQuest for a few years, so we decided to take it on the road and attend an event in a neighboring state. 5 stars all the way: assigned dressing room space, amazing sound system (piped into the dressing rooms), awesome media package, adorable merchandise, fantastic facility, perfect stage crew, top notch judges, quick response to pre event questions, early communication of schedule....I mean, I could go on and on. This was a very competitive weekend, the dancing was amazing. The schedule was never more than 30- to 40 minutes ahead. The only problem we had was that our dressing room was directly off the lobby and the door did not automatically close; so whenever someone went in or out, the door was left wide open. We kept trying to close it (we were on the opposite side of the room) but it was clear this was going to be a problem all weekend. I spoke to a staff member, hoping for a sign on the door to remind folks to close the door, and within 5 minutes (maybe less-like a ninja) a screen had been placed to prevent visibility into the room....now that's quick response time and attention to detail!! We will be attending StarQuest in the future--even if it means taking the team on the road (they all loved it). Thank you, StarQuest, for an amazing weekend! (event not listed in the drop down--we attending the Indianapolis competition)
Hey Dancebear, I'm glad you were finally able to make it to a StarQuest event! Thank you so much for taking the trip, and for your wonderful review. I'm thrilled that you loved the overall event, including our assigned dressing areas, sound system, our upgraded media package, and our incredible road warriors & judges. I'm also happy to hear that our staff were able to help set up a screen to ensure your dancers' privacy - that is the kind of customer-service oriented personality we seek out in our Road Warriors! Looking forward to hosting you again and creating more dance moments with you soon! - Richie, Head Concierge
Yet another competition that does score on technique! I am very disappointed in the presentation of awards and the award that is given to each dancer is, well lacking. A pin? We as parents pay a lot of money for our children to participate in competitions and to only be awarded with a pin is a let down. It didn't even have to be trophy but maybe a small plaque. Judging was also a big let down!!
Hey dancemom0404, I'd like to gain clarity on your comment about technique. At StarQuest, our judges look at the following 4 traits when scoring a routine, which they also talk about in their stream-of-consciousness critiques: Technique, Performance Skill, Appropriateness, and Choreography. Did your director have a chance to listen/watch to the video critiques? The critiques do a wonderful job of reflecting why the judges scored the way they did. In regard to our awards, we wanted to do something unique, which is why we introduced the acrylic awards and pins to take place of the tube trophies that you will so often see. There has been great feedback about them, however, we are always open to suggestions, and if enough people would like to see changes to the awards, it may be worth considering. Thank you for writing in to our Dance Competition Hub profile, it's so important to know how StarQuest may continue improving. Please have your studio director reach out to me at michael@starquestdance.com if they have any further questions about judging, scoring, awards, or about the competition in general. - Michael Ian Cedar, Lead Producer
Latoya is the sweetest! She is welcome here in Syracuse anytime! The photos SQ takes and videos they sell are nowhere near the quality they were last year.
Hey Dance4ever, Thank you for the compliments about Latoya! I will be sure to pass them along. When we're making hiring decisions for Road Warriors, we search for people who have a caring personality mixed with a flair for customer service. In regard to the media, was there anything specific you were looking for in the dance photos & videos? I would be glad to pass along any constructive feedback to the team to continue improving our in-house photography and videos. It seems like the quality of the media drove you to make this a 1 star review, even though you seem to have loved our staff member Latoya. Would love to know if there was any other reason besides the media, and how we can turn it into a 5 star experience in the future? Have a great rest of your season, and please feel free to reach out to media@starquestdance.com for any other questions or comments related to our media! - Richie, Head Concierge
My studio attended the event in Hackensack, NJ this year. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back! Every member of the staff that we interacted with was super friendly and helpful and went above and beyond to make sure we were informed and having a good time. The judging was very fair, and the critiques were thorough and helpful. The venue was great, too. My only complaint was that they waited until later in the day to open a second dressing room. It would have been nice to have both dressing rooms open at the same time to ease congestion, but that might have been the venue's restriction and not the fault of the competition.
Hey energie, Thank you so much for the great review! I'm glad that you had such a great experience at the Hackensack competition this year. I'm also thrilled to hear great compliments about my road warriors; when we're hiring our road staff, we search for people who know how to blend a customer-service attitude with a friendly personality. It's wonderful to know that you enjoyed the venue and the judging. In regards to your comment about the dressing rooms, we would have loved to have the other dressing room at the start of the show. Since the Hackensack event is held in a city owned building, we sometimes have to share the space with other organizations. Have a wonderful rest of your season, I look forward to making many more dance moments with you and your dance family in the future. - Richie, Head Concierge
So eh.
Hey racheee, Ouch. Are there any reasons why you found the competition to be "eh"? It's important to me that I know why you decided to leave 1 star review, so that I may help to continue improving the competition experience here at StarQuest. - Richie, Head Concierge
Before the competition, everything was great and organized and the staff was nice and great when checking us in. I just don't get why they must move so fast and finish the competition so far ahead of schedule. What is the rush? We paid so much for this weekend that is done ahead of schedule and is cleaned up before the final award is even given. What's the rush? Let us enjoy and then you can clean up. Go home when we are done. Add a day if you must, but there is no need to cut down our time to make your days shorter. Scheduling sould be done way better.
Hey Stacy, Thanks for leaving a review about your experience at StarQuest! I'm glad that you enjoyed working with my staff prior to the event, but it sounds like you didn't have the best experience once you actually got through the full weekend. Which competition did you attend this season? Our StarQuest events do generally run on time or ahead of schedule, but we don't normally run over 30-45 minutes ahead of schedule on a given day. The events should always feel calm and well-paced, so I'd like to look into what caused your experience to feel rushed. I'd love to look into the event schedule for the competition you attended. Please, have your studio director reach out to me at richie@starquestdance.com so we can further discuss your experience at the event. - Richie, Head Concierge
everyone needs to stop with all this sq hate. yeah, they don't have it all together all the time, but no one does. so come one. it's fun and that's all we need! <3
Hey dancerrr. We are glad that you enjoy StarQuest enough to stand up for us on this forum, and that you have fun at the competitions. It would be great to know your thoughts that you believe we can improve on. I'd love to turn that three star review next year into a five! We can only grow in the right direction with the guidance of our guests! Please reach out to us through our Facebook page if you have any further comments about StarQuest. Have a wonderful rest of your season!
The judging was very unfair. It seemed like they gave awards to teams that didn't deserve it just because everyone needs a win. The staff was impolite and everything from the comp to the clothes and accessories are extremely overpriced. The books are so expensive, but great, I get a pen with it. (In case you are wondering, yes, that is sarcasm). We will not be going to finals. What a horrible, overrated comp.
Hey Kimmysmom, I'm concerned about your experience at the StarQuest competition you attended. Which event did you go to? If you could please have your studio director contact me at michael@starquestdance.com I would enjoy the opportunity to learn more about what you and your studio family experienced in more detail. Hearing that the judging was unfair and the staff impolite do not match the values of a StarQuest event. In fact, we work extra diligently to make sure that the judges keep a non-biased set of eyes through the event. At many events, multiple studios win top scores, and in other events sometimes several studios take multiple awards. The outcome depends on the event, the studios & the judges. No two events are ever the same. To make sure everyone does get recognized, however, we have added quite a few non-score based awards & superlatives so that the judges can find opportunities to reward all the dancers for their efforts. Please, have your studio director reach out when they have a chance so we can discuss this. - Michael Ian Cedar, Lead Producer
No.Fun. Bad judging. Bad comp. Bad everything
Hey Nessie, It sounds like you didn't have a great experience at one of our events this year. I'd be interested in knowing which competition you attended and in hearing more from your studio director about their thoughts on judging, and the competition as a whole. The team members at StarQuest take feedback very seriously, so please have your studio director email me directly at michael@starquestdance.com so that we can talk openly about your experience. - Michael Ian Cedar, Lead Producer
Star Quest really is losing it. They just want to do well on their good name from the 'Good 'ol Days.'The employees are ruder than I remembered to our kids, only wanting to spend time with the other employees. Spend time together on your own time and work when you are here!! We pay a lot and our expectations are high. Also, Kingshots is not here..Basically. SQ sucks now. Do not bother with them anymore.
Hey proppop, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Which event did you go to? It's extraordinarily concerning to hear about the staff coming across as curt. In fact, this may be the first time I'm hearing that comment, so I want to make sure I understand exactly what you experienced onsite so that I can bring it to the attention of the manager of the event. Since we didn't meet your expectations, I'd much appreciate it if your studio director would send me an email directly at michael@starquestdance.com. I would like to learn more about what we could have done to ensure your studio had a better time. Regarding our former photography company, we have parted ways, it is true, however our in-house photographers this year are capable of being at all 4 events we host every weekend, and the photos are consistent, catching stunning dance moments and increasing the quality of the events as a whole. I look forward to hearing from more about your experience so I can address the topics above - Michael Ian Cedar, Lead Producer
Our dance company, The Company Project, just attended SQ this weekend is Allen TX! I thought this was simply an amazing competition and I would highly recommend it! This was my first time attend a SQ regional and I was so impressed. The staff was very professional and wonderful with the dancers (and moms). The event ran on time and in many cases ahead of time. The videos and pictures were great! The entire weekend was live-streamed which made it possible for all of my family to watch. Thank you SQ for a great weekend of dance! We will definitely be back!
Hey Dwalsh, Thank you so much for your great review! It was a pleasure hosting you and The Company Project at the event in Allen, and I am thrilled that you had such a great time at your first StarQuest regional. Thank you for your compliments about my staff, they are really amazing at making sure everyone at the event feels like they are family, while simultaneously ensuring a fluid and smooth run of show. At StarQuest events, it is the norm for us to run on time or ahead of schedule, which helps make those long days feel much quicker. I'm also glad that you enjoyed our new and improved media center, and the livestream! These are just 2 of the ways that StarQuest has upgraded technologically this year, and it's great to hear that you appreciated them. Looking forward to making many more dance moments with you in the future : - Richie, Head Concierge
It brings me great joy to write a review about a dance competition that made 3 days of Competition, a truly amazing weekend of dance. For people who read this review.....let me give you details on why StarQuest kicks butt!! 1. From the office staff of Christina and Katie, making me feel welcome was the beginning. Answering my one million questions and quick to assist me with anything we needed....truly set the tone. 2. Receiving and email from the Owner, which was an audio recording, welcoming my studio was first rate. 3. Receiving and email with a photo of the director for the weekend, Keaton....was just over top. 4. Meeting Keaton and watching this man run a show like a true veteran of the game....was just simply gangsta! Lol!! 5. Then being introduced to various staff members of the company by Keaton and they ready and willing to assist me.....was just phenomenal. 6. My dancers and parents being provided with the same professionalism by the entire staff. 7. Michael your emcee.......I'm putting he and Keaton in the same category of incredible people. They are hands down why we will always return to StarQuest!! 8. I'm so sorry that I don't remember the names of your backstage staff in Dallas, but holy smokes. Even when I forgot to check in....they had my back and had it covered. They laughed and played with my kids backstage, making them feel loved and important. 9. One person I will not forget is Liz. Now this woman takes things to a whole new level. Fabulous cant even describe how her Media and Visual designs, makes regionals feel like a Nationals. Now before anyone says....."well you're a large studio and you brought allot of money"....let me stop you chille!! Lol! I'm a super small studio with a total of 12 dancers and I brought 18 routines. Listing the awards we won, would take too much time....but to not sound shady.....yes we accomplished 1st overall in the "Select" (Elite) category more than once.....hellur!! Suffice to say, my night ended with tears in my eyes as I hugged the staff and thanking them all for an amazing weekend. BTW, what sealed the deal was my 4 and 8 year old crying that they didnt want the weekend to end. So there you have it.....StarQuest.....the best!! Once last thing.....they ran ahead of schedule the entire weekend! BOOM!! Much Continued Blessings, Joe Berry The Company Project
No SQ for us this year. Finals was a let down. SQ has been a let down. Other comps are way better and worth our money and time.
Hey Taptaptap, I'm concerned that you didn't have a great experience at the StarQuest World Finals in 2017. Which event did you come to, and what exactly happened that shaped the way you view StarQuest now? At StarQuest, we take our studio's feedback very seriously, and have implemented many of the suggestions that have come to us in prior years, including our new video critiques and music upload systems that we implemented this year. Please, have your studio director email me directly at richie@starquestdance.com about the event that you attended, I'd really like to find out what caused you to have a negative experience. - Richie, Head Concierge
We will be returning this year because all our dancers want to. I hope SQ is better this year than last.
Hey Traci, It sounds like you didn't have a positive experience at one of the events you attended last year. Which competition were you at, and what happened? I'd love to talk with your studio director about the improvements we have made to StarQuest since last year, and about what you're looking for in your competition experience this year. Your feedback is so important, it is the only way that StarQuest will continue to grow! I am happy to hear however that your other team members are interested in coming back. I do want to make sure we can give a positive experience on your next visit. Please have your studio director email me directly at richie@starquestdance.com. - Richie, Head Concierge
i go to starquest in upland every year and i always love it! the photos and videos are great, and the staff are very helpful and kind. my favorite competition, im looking forward to coming back soon!
Hey Charlizetsang, Thank you very much for your wonderful review! I'll be passing along your compliments to my road staff. Next season in Upland, be sure to say hi to some of my team, they love knowing what they can do to make sure your competition experience is the best that it can be. I'm also looking forward to hosting you again at StarQuest 25th Anniversary season in 2018.- Richie Kormos
Everything was perfect here! The photos, the staff, the judeges and awards!
Dear Chanelle.casteel, Thank you very much for the review! I'm so glad to hear that you had such an amazing time at my event this year! Let's create more great dance moments next year, at StarQuest 25th Anniversary Season. -Richie Kormos, Head Concierge
Great competition! Fantastic venues and accurate judging comments. The staff is so kind and made all the dancers feel comfortable. Can't wait to return to star quest!
Dear Emdance19, I'm absolutely thrilled that you had such a great time at my competition this year. If you thought the judging critiques were accurate this year, you are going to LOVE that we are rolling out video critiques next season! I'm also delighted that you loved the road staff. When we're making hiring decisions, we seek out candidates that have outstanding service-oriented personalities, and that have a welcoming and warm heart, so that we know attendees are in the best possible hands on competition day. Thanks for the review! looking forward to creating new dance moments with you and your studio family next year! -Richie Kormos, Head Concierge
2017 Galveston Nationals was amazing! The convention center was beautiful, and the master classes were very helpful.
Dear Joycesammy_, Thank you very much for your review! I'm delighted that you had such a great experience at my 2017 Galveston Nationals, and I hope to see you again at my 25th Anniversary Nationals next year as well! I'm also glad that you enjoyed the free Master Classes that are offered every day during the nationals, so that dancers can continue to enrich their experience even when they aren't performing on stage! Looking forward to creating new dance moments with you and your studio family next year. -Richie Kormos, Head Concierge
Good job
I do not know what we expected, but this was not it. This was a horrible time. We were looking forward to seeing some staffers from regionals (Drew, nava and everyone else my kids met backstage), but even they weren't there, so this underwhelming time could not be saved. Our studio will not be making this trip again. Waste of money for the same thing as regionals. Especially since everyone can come with-out doing regionals
Dear Pgracedance, It sounds like you didn't have the greatest experience at my Nationals. My 6-day all-inclusive Finals experience is indeed an open-invitational, to allow studios that couldn't make it to our Regionals a chance to compete with some of the most passionate studios in the nation. We concluded that creating an open-invitation Finals was the best decision after we looked at most of the major dance competitions in the USA. We found that there were virtually no dancers that didn't qualify to go to nationals. So, we realized that it was no longer necessary to force someone to qualify in order to share the experience at Nationals. It seems that many competitions require the regionals as an additional way to capture more business. I'd love to hear more about your studio's experiences at my 2017 Nationals, so please have your studio director email me directly at michael@starquestdance.com so that we can discuss what you found so underwhelming at the competition. It is my goal and my team's goal to always provide an outstanding experience at every event - Michael Ian Cedar, Lead Producer
schedule of numbers was not followed...consistently ran early, which caused issues with making sure all dancers were present...made it difficulty to plan accordingly. Tip...if you have a schedule...as in a list of when numbers should run...why don't you actually follow it?! Photography vendor was average to below average...soft images, and lots of out of focus images.
Dear Tfrank, Thank you for noticing how consistently early we run. StarQuest takes pride in always running on-time or early (running at the speed of the studios), thanks to the talents of our dedicated and highly-efficient road staff. When we're running very ahead of schedule, we generally notify the studio directors, and work to accommodate for any issues that running ahead may cause if a number is not entirely prepared. We are currently working on finding solutions to put the schedule in your pocket as an app on your phone, so that everyone will be kept up-to-date when we are running ahead. I hope the running ahead of schedule is more appealing than running behind. Please, have your studio director contact me directly at richie@starquestdance.com if they may have any other suggestions! In regards to the photography, KingShots was our primary vendor at StarQuest events this year, and may be contacted at 800-345-FOTO ~or~ 317-241-3686 if you have any concerns. Thanks again for your review, I hope to make more dance memories with you next year at our 25th Anniversary Season - Richie Kormos, Head Concierge
We have enjoyed attending Starquest for many years. The levels are great, the competition runs on-time and the backstage staff is helpful and friendly. I find the judges critiques insightful and really offer our dancers assistance in advancing their technique. We look forward to attending this competition again in the future.
Dear Missmimijo, Thank you so much for the wonderful review! Our team is constantly working to ensure that you and your studio family have the greatest possible experience at my StarQuest events, and to hear that you loved our levels, timeliness, and road staff really means a lot. I'm looking forward to hosting you again, as well! Let's make some great dance memories next season at StarQuest's 25th Anniversary! - Richie Kormos, Head Concierge
I have enjoyed the Starquest competition for many years and just have some thoughts for improvements. It didn't feel right to allow performers to compete way out of order (like on a totally different day). If an act cannot perform any where near their scheduled time, maybe they should not be allowed to be in the overalls. It isn't very fair to the people who made accommodations or sacrifices to be there as scheduled. Then to watch those absent acts win and not even be there to accept the awards...just didn't feel right. The photographer is amazing! Beautiful lighting and perfectly composed. I would consider having an additional photographer that captured the whole group for the entire dance because, although the pictures are gorgeous, they often only feature a few of the dancers...I just think you would sell more pictures that way. I got feedback from some dancers that they did not like the solo overalls going out to 30th place because it was embarrassing to be in 30th place. I hope they consider providing immediate adjudication awards to speed up awards.
Dear March, I'm delighted that you've enjoyed my competitions, and have passed your suggestions to my Lead Producer , Michael Ian Cedar, for further review. We are constantly improving as a competition, just like how dancers are constantly fine-tuning their crafts! At StarQuest, we understand that sometimes accommodations must be made for routines that are simply unable to perform on the same day as they are scheduled for. If a routine performs after the awards ceremony, they are dancing for adjudication only, but if they perform at any point before the awards ceremony, they may still be eligible for top score. And for the photography, our photographs this year were run by the vendor KingShots Photography, and your notes will be considered as we work on our photography plans for next season. In regards to the awards ceremony going out to 30th place, that is certainly an anomaly, but it's dependent on the number of dances in a particular division and age class in that city. There must have been over 100 performers for that division at your event! Wow! I look forward to hosting you next year for my 25th Anniversary; there are plenty more dance memories to make! - Richie Kormos, Head Concierge
Great people and always a fun time. Starquest just needs to catch up to the times and have video critiques along with giving the option to put all our songs online beforehand and letting us see schedule before we arrive.
Dear Alwaysdancing, Thank you so much for the review, and I have some great news for you! We actually have video critiques rolling out for our 25th Anniversary Season in 2018, AND we are introducing a Music Uploads system online through our registration website. I'm looking forward to making many more dance memories with you and your studio family. - Richie Kormos, Head Concierge
Never have we bought such amazing photos at a competition.
Dear Dddancedad, Thanks so much! Our photography for the 2017 season was run by the wonderful KingShots photography, who are excellent at capturing stunning action shots of dancers. I'll pass along the compliments. See you next year at my 25th Anniversary Season! - Richie Kormos, Head Concierge
For what may be the first time ever, the camera man and woman are good at their job and I don't feel like i have to film every dance my daughter and her friends are in myself. It took StarQuest long enough to realize this matters to us.
Dear Dancemommy - Thank you for your praise on my camera team. We are very fortunate to have team members who are committed to delivering you the best quality of videos of your dancers' entries. Did you know that our road warriors receive over two weeks of training to ensure they are able to tend to all your needs on competition day? I hope to have you again at StarQuest's 25th Anniversary Season, where we will make even more wonderful dance memories! - Richie Kormos, Head Concierge
Over the years, I have noticed the employees of StarQuest are not as excited or happy as they used to be. I see or hear them crying in bathrooms (sometimes even vomitting in stalls). When I ask if they are ok, they tell me it is allergies or colds. I do not think that is true anymore. I think though the comp is highly esteemed, they are not treating their ten (10!) employees right.
My daughter has been competing for a while now, and I have always been helping out with her props. I want to commend the stage manager, Becca, and the tour manager, Nicole, for their communication skills with every prop dad and dancer. Jamie, the woman who presented awards, was so nice to the dancers and was a riot backstage! I am so happy with these people I encountered at the competition. One problem worker I encountered was an asian woman. She would joke around with her colleagues, but it was as if she did not even notice there were dancers around. She didn't even talk to them or interract with them in any way. I found her to be a little rude.
Dear proppop, Thank you for your review! I appreciate that you, as a dance dad, have invested your time into assisting your daughter and her team with props because that hands-on commitment gives you extra insight into how StarQuest is run. This includes interacting with our road warrior onsite. Thank you for noticing the extra effort our staff puts in to ensure that you're having an exceptional competition experience. When making hiring decisions, one of the factors we consider is personality - to ensure that our team members not only have the temperament but also the customer service aptitude necessary to tend to your needs onsite. I also appreciate your notes on my stage manager - Lori. I will pass along your note to her managers, so she can receive necessary coaching in the future. Thank you again for the unique insight you're able to provide into how StarQuest runs. I do hope that we are able to continue making dance memories with you and your dance family next season. Best - Richie Kormos, Head Concierge
The guy who announces has such a cool voice. Also roasting Michael is too much fun! Everyone should do it! He is so funny! Special thanks to Nava for always telling us we did awesome even when we didn't (and for telling me where Michael was when he wasn't backstage). Everyone is so cool at Starquest. We had a great weekend! The only complaint every single person has is that we wish we had been competing somewhere that has air conditioning. Also, Louisville isn't listed, but we definitely just had our comp there. it happened, promise!
Dear becks, Wow! Thank you for your review! I'm happy to hear that you had such a fun time at my Louisville competition earlier this month, despite it being a little on the warm side. I will reach out to our bookings manager with your note, and inquire about air conditioning options for future seasons. I reapply appreciate you mentioning how my staff went above and beyond to make sure you and your teammates had a memorable experience! Hope to see you next year at StarQuest's 25th Anniversary Season! Yours Sincerely - Richie Kormos, Head Concierge
We all thought Julian was fabulous! He is so cute and great at present awards!
Hi mcriss, Thank you for your not on Julian, our emcee! He is a much loved part of the StarQuest family, and we're grateful for the energy he brings to our awards ceremonies! I will pass along your praise to his manager. Best - Richie Kormos, Head Concierge
All of our students, parents, and staff thoroughly enjoyed the competition. We especially like the replay of the top scoring routines. The Star Quest staff was very friendly and accommodating and did a great job of keeping everything running on time or ahead of schedule. The only suggestions I could make would be to have a video critiques of the dance, not just audio critiques. Also, to be able to upload the music for the routines instead of CDs. Lastly to have the final schedule at least a week ahead of the competition date.
FINALS IS GOING TO BE SO MUCH FUN! SQ IS SO AMAZING! WE LOVE YOU!
Hi shannanah! Thank you so much for your review! It's our pleasure to deliver you an amazing dance competition where you and your peers can shine, and it warms my heart to hear your appreciation for the experience. We can't wait to celebrate your talents at Finals either! See you soon! Best - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge

My daughter had a fantastic time at the competition this year. Starquest is always amazing, but I am very unhappy with something I overheard two employees speaking about. They said the mc had a sister competing at the competition, which I would think would be against the rules. It does not seem one bit fair that Starquest would allow the person giving out the awards to give one to her own family member. It may explain why she was not good at mcing in the first place. Her mind seemed all over the place and she was never watching or talking to the kids. Instead of doing her job in the moment and watching the dances, she would go to the computers backstage to watch dances she knew were getting awards. She did this as I stood in the wings while my daughter danced on stage! I find this completely inappropriate and question if my daughter, or her studio for that matter, should attend any Starquest events in the future.
We love StarQuest! The reputation speaks for itself. The change in venue this year to The Landmark Theater was not great as the dressing rooms were up flights of stairs; we all worried our kids would slip in their tap shoes. The venue people were not the kindest, which is not StarQuest's fault, but we were assured next year would be at a different location, which is great because it means the staff hears our thoughts and actually acts on them for the benefit of the competition. The staff in general was good. The first day, one woman heard my friend mention to another employee she has a bad back, so instead of sending her across the building to the elevator only to come back to the other side of the building where the dressing room was, the employee carried my friend's daughter's dream duffel up 2 flights of stairs for her and made sure we were settled in our dressing room before leaving. Between that woman, Becky, and the 2 ladies in the lobby, I was so happy with the event. There were some people like the stage manager though who are not good with people at all. She tried to talk with us at the wrong moments and makes offhand jokes or comments. Plus, she is very rude to her other staff members which leaves a sour taste in my mouth. We are very happy with the scores we received. The judges know what they are talking about when it comes to dancing, so listening to the critiques and pairing them with the videos we bought are going to be a big help to all of the students as we continue in our competition season.
Dear jlballet - Thank you for this review! It's always nice to hear that our reputation precedes us. At StarQuest - we pride ourselves in producing a high-caliber dance competition for you and your dancers to enjoy, and I am grateful that is what you experienced at my Syracuse competition earlier this month. I appreciate you noticing how we take studio feedback into consideration when deciding on venues at which to host StarQuest. As an attendee, you may notice nuances we do not pick up on when picking venues - like your dancers walking upstairs in tap shoes - that factor in to where you bring your dancers to perform. I also appreciate your notes on the on-site road warriors, including Becky. The staff receives over 19 days of training to ensure that they are ready to go the extra mile (or carry a Dream Duffel here and there) to make sure your dance competition experience is stress-free. I will pass along your observations about our Stage Manager so that they can receive the proper coaching and guidance on her next competition weekend. I am glad that you and your dancers find our stream-of-consciousness critiques helpful! Did you know that we require our judges to undergo an extensive audition process prior to being selected as a StarQuest judge? This gives us the confidence that the judges adjudicating your routines can provide the best possible feedback for your dancers (and your) hard work! Thank you again for your review! I hope that you have a wonderful rest-of-season, and that we have the opportunity to make more dance memories with you in 2018! With Kindness - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
We LOVE StarQuest! My dancers and dance parents have raved the past 2 years about how much they love attending their competitions. Everything is very professionally done and runs very smoothly. Each time I needed to check in backstage, there were at least 2 staff members to let me know how many numbers between what was on stage and our group. We have attended several different events at our local venue and they make fantastic use of the theater when not everyone else does. We're a smaller studio and it is VERY helpful that they assign dressing rooms. Even though we had a shared room, it's nice to know that some thought went into the size of the groups attending and where we would all fit best backstage. We will DEFINITELY attend the 2018 regional!
So well organized! Awards ceremonies were quick but still made the dancers feel recognized. I *love* the special awards that the judges created. They really made the kids feel special. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Dressing rooms were tight (mostly this is an annoyance with a team who took over the entire room that three teams were supposed to share!), but otherwise everything was really great. (This review is for the Omaha event, which isn't appearing as an option below.)
All around a wonderful experience for our brand new team, they had a wonderful time and the experience challenged them to work that much harder. Top notch run competition with very positive support/reinforcement from the staff. Really appreciate the excellent communication before, during and after the event! Really appreciate how on time the event was all weekend long, even ran early at times and that is VERY helpful when you are there all day all weekend. Appreciate the dressing rooms being assigned to studios. It REALLY makes things so much more comfortable knowing you will not have to struggle for a dressing room. Would like to see them come to the Lansing, MI area in the future and possibly have the levels broken down a bit more for the true novice dancers.
Hello kickitoutdancestudio - Thank you for your review! It means a lot to hear that your new team had a wonderful experience at my Detroit I regional earlier this season - and left with the motivation to continue working on their craft! Thank you for your feedback on the StarQuest staff. Part of delivering a top-notch dance competition experience from the second you begin inquiring about bringing your dances to StarQuest to when our concierges follow-up with your after the competition weekend. Thank you for noticing how on-time we are! Did you know that it takes two weeks and 4-5 people to crate the schedule, to ensure the show runs smoothly and on-time (or even early!)? It's touches like this, and assigning dressing room space to each studio, that lead to StarQuest delivering the dance competition experience you deserve. Levels are a constantly evolving factor in the dance competition industry, and I will pass that note - as well as your request for a competition in the Lansing, MI area - to my executive board. Did you know that we also have a competition in Grand Rapids? In addition, if you have any venues at which you'd like to see us host a competition in Lansing, or ideas how to break down levels further - please feel free to reach out! Thank you again for your feedback! I love forward to hopefully making more dance memories with you next season! Best - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge, mariel@starquestdance.com
Staff kept things moving along very well. The Awards were quick but not rushed. Staff was sincere, encouraging and very well organized.
Dear keckmann - Thank you for your review! I especially appreciate your comments on my staff! When making hiring decisions, StarQuest looks to bring on team members who not only are not only passionate about helping others, but also have outstanding customer-service oriented personalities to ensure your dance competition experience is a good one. Thank you for noticing how our awards ceremonies run as well. At StarQuest, we know the Experience is the Real Award, and part of that experience is holding an awards ceremony that recognizes your dancers' accomplishments without feeling drawn out. Thank you again for your review. I hope you and your dancers have a great rest-of-season, and we continue having the opportunity to be inspired by you in 2018. With Kindness - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
We wished more people can speak Spanish with us instead of only 1 girl backstage. She was not there all the time, and it would have been nice if she did not change work with the boy who could not speak with us. We had fun anyway. It was hard for our dancers to know when they won awards because the girl went to fast saying them. It was fun time though. Much better then other compatitions we went to.
We attended Starquest Seattle this past Sunday. We had a great time. The venue was good. The staff is very friendly. The emcee was great. It was nice to actually be able to understand what she was saying. The event ran smoothly and on time. They had great merchandise to offer, and love their trophies. I liked how they had several different awards ceremonies and I love how they give out special judges awards. It is so nice for these dancers/dances to be recognized in other ways besides your placing. It is awesome, too, how they give gift certificates to 1st place winners for entry fees off the next season to all levels, not just competitive, so thank you for that!!! One thing I will say is we did have a few disappointments because this is our 5th competition of the season, and a few of our dances received our first set of high gold scores. I know every set of judges is different. My daughter's solo has received platinums all season with scores starting at 285, then comes here and gets a high gold. But, it was not just our studio, we saw lots of pretty amazing dances receiving high golds, so the judging was not unfair. Then we listened to the critiques yesterday, and the judges were actually pretty amazing!!! Lots of wonderful, amazing feedback along with tips to help correct things. So much more appreciated than just "cute", "nice", etc. But, we did feel that the critiques did not match the scores. One other little complaint is that it was a very long day, which is fine, but it was on a Sunday with school the next day. We did not get home until after 11:00 and my daughter was getting to bed at almost midnight and had to go to school the next day. But, other than that, we loved your event and look forward to it next year!!!
Dear Stillani - Thank you for your notes on my Seattle regional earlier this month. I appreciate your comments on the staff and my emcee. A large part of delivering a flawless competition experience rests in the hands of the StarQuest road warriors. Thank you for noticing our judge's special awards, and for recognizing - like us - their importance in making dancers feel valued and supported, as well as how 1st Place winners competing at all levels receive gift certificates for their accomplishments on stage. Dance competition days can run long, and the StarQuest team makes their best effort when constructing the schedule so that late nights (and early starts) affect the smallest number of dancers possible. As for our judges, we make our best effort to ensure judges are never in the same city two years in a row - which means fresh eyes for your routines. I am grateful that you found the notes given in the critiques to be helpful for your daughter, even if the scores weren't what you expected. If you wouldn't mind, please have your studio director contact me so that we can discuss your scoring concerns. We do indeed encourage our judges to use the entire scoring range, but if you feel that the critique did not back up the score, that is something I'd like to look into personally. Wishing you a great end-of-season, and looking forward to seeing your dancer shine in 2018! With kindness - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
SQ rocks. Jamie is the bomb and the sweetest person eva. We cannot wait to see everyone at finals and next year.
Hi idance2 - Thank you for your review! I'm happy to hear you had such a good time at my competition, and with my team member, Jamie. We love having her as a part of the emcee team at StarQuest - and I'll let her manager know you think she's the sweetest! It warms my heart to hear you and your dance family are already looking forward to Finals and next season! See you soon & keep on dancing! Best - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
We are blown away by our experience at our first StarQuest competition. The staff was always one step ahead of everything. They were positive, helpful, and all around nice and happy. They multi-tasked, doing their jobs and running a competition while talking to us and asking us about our studios, students, and Florida dance in general. They dance and sing at their stations, play with the children, and have a backstage coloring station. Anything and everything other comps have is at StarQuest, and they go 5 steps further to make the weekend that much more memorable for everyone in attendance by adding little touches such as these. They even assign dressing rooms. It really is a breath of fresh air. They truly were interested in us as people, not only as strangers sitting near them for a weekend, getting in their way at work. I especially appreciate the swiftness with which they handle complaints and how well they deal with backstage traffic for big group numbers. I wish the other Florida studios were nicer in general. We see many of them at other comps and since some of them don't speak english, communication is difficult for them when the staff asks the dancers and parents to step back so the dancers on stage can run from wing to wing without hurting anyone or clear the stage when their dance is done, but that is not the staff's fault. We also love how much better most of the studios are whom attend StarQuest. It really has a great reputation for a reason.
Dear amydance - Thank you so much for your review! I am overjoyed that your experience at my Ft. Lauderdale regional alst weekend went above and beyond your expectation. It's our goal to help you create lifeline memories on competition day, and that begins with our staff. When making hiring decisions - we not only recruit team members with exceptional, service-oriented personalities, but we hire those who we can trust to deliver you a flawless competition. Thank you for noticing that we assign dressing rooms! Part of delivering a stress-free competition experience includes making sure all studios have a designated place for their dancers to get ready, as well as coordinate backstage traffic. At StarQuest - you are more than just a studio number, you're a member of our dance family - and that means constantly working to make sure you feel like it! Also, thank you for noticing the caliber of talent brought to StarQuest! We are impressed, season-after-season, by the studios who choose to share their passion on the StarQuest stage. Thank you again for your review! Wishing you an excellent rest-of-season! Best - Mariel StarQuest Social Media Concierge
I had THE MOST fun at Starquest in Detroit. I didn't get much sleep, but thats ok, because i love dancing. There was some stuff we LOVED and some stuff we didn't. We LOVED everything they sell. There was tons and tons of stuff to choose from. Also, the girl backstage with 5 computers lets you choose music with her. But then sometimes someone else works backstage at the computers and she wasn't as nice. She didn't smile much or talk to us. Katelin was not really that nice also. She never talked to us backstage either and she always was working at random spots instead of watching us dance so when she gave us awards she never had anything to ask besides who choreographed the dance. Also the girl announcing everything NEVER SAID IT RIGHT. she always said names and dance titles and everything wrong, even though Laurie asked us how to say them. Why would the Starquest people give her that job if she is not good at it?
Hi abbs - Thank you so much for your review! My team had THE MOST fun hosting you at our first 2017 Detroit Regional last weekend. It's important to us at StarQuest that you and your dance family have as much fun off-stage as you do when you're performing on-stage. I will let our merchandise manager know that you love the StarQuest boutique - she's always looking for trendy items for you to remember your day by. Thank you for letting me know about your interactions with my team members backstage. At StarQuest - when making hiring decisions - we look for outstanding service-oriented personalities. Recently, a team meeting was called to reinforce the importance of positive guest interactions on the overall competition experience. Just like you in the studio - the only way we can improve is by receiving notes - so thank you! Wishing you an outstanding rest-of-season, and I hope we get to have more dance fun with you next year! Best - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
We had such a fun weekend! My daughter is already talking about finals and next year at starquest. I just wish some of the staff had been kinder. Marisa was good at handling situations, but every time she spoke with us it felt like she was rolling her eyes in her brain and she was talking to a 3 year old. She rushed our conversations as if she always had a more pressing issue to deal with. Why treat us like we are idiots and unimportant?! At least pretend we matter! While I do wish she was kinder, everyone else went above and beyond and made the weekend wonderful!
Hello mtm - Thank you for your review! I'm happy to hear that you and your daughter had such a fun weekend at StarQuest and that she's already looking forward to performing with us again at Finals! I appreciate your notes on my tour staff. We recently held a team meeting where Michael Ian Cedar - StarQuest's Lead Producer - reinforced the importance of interacting with all guests in a positive, respectful manner. Thank you again for your review. I hope that we have the ability to build more trust in our staff and continue to make memories with your family next season! With Kindness - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
Great show, we hope StarQuest keeps coming back to Buffalo! Shout out to Becca and VJ, those girls are hilarious and they were so helpful!
Dear danceparent1969 - Thanks so much for your review! I'm overjoyed to hear that you and your family had such a great time at my Buffalo regional last weekend! I will pass along your shout out to Becca and VJ's manager. We are grateful to have them as a part of the StarQuest family - for both their fun personalities and their helpfulness on-site. At StarQuest - we hire team members with not only a strong aptitude for customer service but also a welcoming attitude, so we know our attendees are in the best possible hands on competition day. Thank you again for your review, and I hope we get to continue making dance memories with you in Buffalo next season! With Kindness - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
Definitely the most fun time I have ever had at a comp!!
Hi loff - Thank you SO much for your review! I love hearing when dancers have fun at StarQuest because I believe you dance to your full potential when you're enjoying the experience! The StarQuest team knows that you're often on-site for 30 hours over a competition weekend, so it's important to us that your time off-stage is as remarkable as your time dancing. Wishing you an amazing rest-of-season, and I hope we get to have more dance fun with you next year! Best - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
My daughter cannot stop talking about her competition in Hackensack last weekend and how she picked out songs to play with her friends. She had such a good time on stage AND off! At first she was very nervous to perform, but when she saw her friends helping the girl choose songs to play, she started helping out and left all her nerves behind! It was fantastic to see and is such a fun touch to add to the day! Great idea StarQuest!
Dear taptaptap - Wow! Your review put a smile on my face! I am overjoyed to hear that your daughter had such a positive experience at my Hackensack Regional last weekend! At StarQuest - it's important to us that you and your dancer have as wonderful a time on-stage as off. I'm grateful to hear that your daughter's nerves were abated after she settled into the day, and that my team members helped with that! Did you know that, when making staffing decisions for the season, one of the factors we consider is personality - so we can be sure your team members have the right attitude to deliver you a family-friendly, Broadway-quality dance competition. Wishing you and your dancer a great rest-of-season, and I hope we get to make more dance memories with you in 2018! With Kindness - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
Latoya and Jessica were such dolls in Denver! I had to create this account after reading bad reviews about a girl in the lobby being unkind. She must be a rarity for StarQuest, because every StarQuest employee I interacted with--Especially in the lobby area while buying things and viewing my daughter's dances--was the sweetest and most darling!
Hi lindseylovesdance - Wow! Thank you for your kind words about my dedicated road warriors Latoya and Jessica. I'm humbled to hear that you were so compelled by the excellent service they provided at your StarQuest Denver competition that you took the time to create a Dance Competition Hub account in order to write this review! We strive to make every attendee feel like a member of our extended dance family. Wishing you and your family a great rest-of-season, and I hope we get to make more dance memories with you in 2018! With Kindness - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
This comp is always in a class by itself! The nicest staff you'll ever see. The girl out front we've seen at every event we've gone to in the last few years and she always remembers us and goes out of her way to help us out...I forgot to add title for my daughter and she got on her walkie and had them add it with a MINUTE to go before she had to dance and then let me go in and watch her before coming out to pay...and turns out she won! :-) A total sweetheart. We also love that the stage manager has a dance bear for the kids to play with - it's these little personal, family touches that we love that only StarQuest has!
Dear Letskeepdancing - Wow! Thank you for your review! It's great to hear your praise for StarQuest, and I appreciate that you noticed the family touches our team brings to each competition. It's our goal to deliver you a Broadway-quality, stress-free competition and I'm happy to hear that is what you experienced. Did you know that our road warriors train for 19-days, in order to prepare to serve you at StarQuest - including having the tools and training needed to register your daughter for Title right before she was scheduled to compete. Thank you again for your review, and I hope we get to make more dance memories with you next season! Best - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
Nothing went well in Hackesnack this weekend. The girls and boys all danced wonderfully, but the music kept stopping and it was so loud the whole weekend. There were children wearing earmuffs in the auditorium and as the weekend neared the end everyone moved as closd to the back of the room as they could. We went a bit late every day too I think as well. Everyone was nice though I just wish the venue was better and things went smoother and faster.
We love StarQuest. The weekend flies by and everyone is always nice and has a good attitude. I don't think anything went wrong, but if it did, it sure was solved quickly! My husband is going to end up buying everything we wanted (IE videos) through the website though because the young lady selling everything was constantly on her phone when he went outside. (We attended the event in Upland, California)
Hello Kimmy - Thank you for your review! We appreciate the opportunity to have hosted you at our Upland, CA Regional this season, and I'm happy to hear that you and your family enjoyed your StarQuest experience. My team and I recognize that it's not uncommon for families to spend 30-40 hours on-site on competition weekends, so it's important to us at StarQuest that your time off stage is as remarkable as the time when your dancer is competing. I appreciate your note on my video lobby and merchandise boutique team members. I will pass along your comment to their managers, so that they can reinforce the behavior standards we expect, as well as provide the necessary coaching during their upcoming competition weekends. In the meantime, if you send me your contact information, I will make sure that the video team contacts you so that you may place an order, and we will waive any shipping charges. Again, thank you for your review! Best - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
This competition was our first as a Select level. We were very happy with our performance and the quality of performance that we up against. The speed at which awards were being handed out was quick and efficient. The crew back stage were relaxed and professional at the same time. They were able to answer any question I had and did it in a manner that made you feel very important and understood. There were no "rush and move out" personalities. I highly recommend this competition to all studios.
Dear vfortner - Thank you for your review! I am grateful to hear that your first time at StarQuest was a good one! I love hearing that you and your dancers are pleased with your performance and the caliber of competition. I believe that year after year some of the top studios in the country continue returning to StarQuest due to the Broadway-quality experience we deliver. Thank you for your compliments on our road warriors! One of the qualities we hire for is a service-oriented, fun personality, and our team members' personality - combined with a minimum of 19 days of training - assures that they are ready and able to attend to all your needs on-site. Wishing you a great rest-of-season, and I hope we get to make more dance memories with you in 2018. With Kindness - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
Always a fun time, sq is one of the better comps out there. My husband likes to guess what video is going to play next. He does wish that they had more choices of videos.
Hi gwen - Thanks so much for your review! With so many dance competitions in the industry, it's great to hear you think so highly of StarQuest! It's touches like our transitional music videos that relate to the entries that just performed that we believe add to the high-caliber experience StarQuest delivers. I will deliver your note to our video team - we are always looking for fun, appropriate music videos to add to our queue. Wishing you and your family a great rest-of-season. Best - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
Keaton made me his new stage manager and I said things into the walkie talkie for him sometimes. He was really cool and I am his #1 fan
Hi key10fan - What an awesome story to take home from StarQuest! We think Keaton is pretty cool too, and we love having him as a part of the StarQuest family! I will definitely let him know his new stage manager and #1 fan appreciated the extra touches he added to your experience. Did you know that at StarQuest - one of the factors we hire for is personality? This assures us that the road warriors you interact with at competitions have the right attitude to make sure your competition experience is a good one! Wishing you an amazing rest-of-season, and I hope to be inspired by you again next season! With Kindness - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
My daughter and her friends love Nava. She was absolutely fantastic with the children by letting them choose music videos to watch in between the dances. I went backstage on multiple occasions to find my daughter standing next to her and talking with her as she worked and know many other parents saw the same. When I asked my daughter what they had talked about she said it was about dance and school and movies. She said Nava explained the way her computers worked and what she was doing as she did it. I think that is an amazing quality in an employee and absolutely had to share it the fabulous experience we had as we did not get to thank her in person. I also want to mention how much my daughter loved Kaitlin. She says she was so fun on the stage and off. She seemed to really know dance, which isn't true or doesn't seem true of many other people MCing competitions.
Dear jb - Thank you for this wonderful review, and for your praise of my team members - Katelyn and Naava from my Hackensack Regional competition last weekend. It warms my heart to hear how Naava went above and beyond to interact with your daughter and added such a special moment to her dance competition weekend. The StarQuest team's top priority is to create a supportive atmosphere at our competition, because we believe that when dancers feel encouraged, they shine brighter! Hope to make more dance memories with you soon! With kindness - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
i like hugging the bear back stage, he makes me happy before i dance :)
Dear sarahsarah - Thank you for your review! It puts a smile on my face to hear that BearKelly and our other Tour Bears bring you happiness before you perform! At StarQuest, it's important to us that you feel supported and confident when taking the stage - and the extra touches our road warriors add, like Tour Bears, help with that! Wishing you a great rest-of-season, and I hope that we get to make more dance memories with you next year! With Kindness - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
I love SQ. We had so much fun and the shirt I bought this year is so comfy and cute I am too excited to wear t to school. i wish the judging was more fairer though. my studio won only like 2 awards and everyone else won like 5zillion
Hi marydances - Thank you for your review! I love that you love your comfy, cute tee that you bought at StarQuest this year! our Merchandise Manager - Justine - works hard to make sure the items in our StarQuest Boutique will keep you looking and feeling great! It does concern me to hear that you found the judging unfair. StarQuest works very hard to remove the perception of bias from our judging. Some ways we do this are by doing our best to ensure judges are in no way connected to any of the studios competing on-site, as well as by not publishing studio names in the program - so judges are focused on the dance, and not where the dancer trains. I hope that after receiving your critiques from our judges, your studio director can provide some insight as to why your routines were adjudicated as such. It may comfort you that we never have the same judges in the same city two years in a row - meaning fresh eyes on your routine every year. I would love to continue the discussion with your studio director and see how we can continue to improve for next season, and get their feedback on their perception of the judges. Please feel free to have them contact me directly at the StarQuest office. Thank you again for your review, and I hope we get to make more dance memories with you in 2018! With Kindness - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge, mariel@starquestdance.com
Our studio went to Starquest in Youngstown, Ohio this weekend and it was interesting. Some things were fantastic but some were not. 1. Majority of the staff was friendly as can be and polite to myself, my daughter, and her friends; a few of the people though we're not. The blue hair camera operator and stage woman with a shaved head should not work with children. They are very much pretending to be happy and clearly do not enjoy working with or near children. Their smiles are always fake or never there, and while I understand being focused on work (as another staff member explained to me could be the reason for the blue haired woman's attitude), that does not excuse being discourteous to everyone-especially the children. I even heard the blue hair woman say in her walkie talkie that there were too many children around her and she did not like it. She should find a new job then. 2. Conversely, Alyssa was fantastic at her job and seemed to really enjoy being on stage and with the children. She was great! 3. The other camera woman (Nadia I think is her name) was sweet as pie. She would dance to songs and sing along with the kids. My daughter's friend asked her what she was doing, so she explained while working, which I commend! Since she plays music videos between dances, when my daught asked if she could play Shawn Mendes, she pulled the song right up and played it for her! It was really sweet. 4. Michael and Jessica were amazing and really knew what they were doing in the front lobby. They were great at customer service and polite about everything. I recommend starquest (despite the 2 rude employees) a lot!
Hello dianneh - Thank you for your review. I appreciate the time you took to take me through each aspect of what worked at my Youngstown competition last weekend - as well as what did not. One of the qualities we hire for at StarQuest is an individual's service-oriented, friendly personality. Your note is not taken lightly and will be rough to the attention of the team leads - so they can offer the necessary coaching and guidance at their events this weekend. Conversely, it warms my heart to hear that Naava (on video), Lyssa, Michael, and Jessica represented StarQuest the way we aim to be represented. Again, thank you for your review. Just like your dancer, the only way we can improve as a competition is by receiving notes. Wishing you a successful rest-of-season, and I do hope we get to continue to be inspired by your dancer next season! With Kindness - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
My daughter has been dancing since she was 4 years old. She is now a teenager and we have gone to competitions for years. Starquest has always been a great competition for us to attend, but this year was better than ever. The day seemed to run more smoothly than it has run in the past. The videos I bought of my daughter's dances were so good, they were amazing and a lot better than they have been in past years. It makes me wonder if they have hired outside professionals for them like they do for the photos. The girl who sold the videos to me was not nice at all, but the other girl who worked with her and sold me a stuffed animal for my younger daughter was a sweetheart.
Dear mommadancer - Thank you for your review. It means so much to me to hear thank you and your daughter - both longtime veterans of the dance competition circuit - hold StarQuest in such high regard! It is our utmost goal to be constantly improving, to deliver an exceptional dance competition for our attendees - and I am grateful that is what you continued to experience this year. Thank you for noticing the quality of our videos! All of our videos are shot by our highly-trained in-house road warrior team. I am concerned to hear that the team member you interacted with at our video lobby was unpleasant towards you, as one of the criteria we hire for is a service-oriented personality. If you could, please email me directly - noting which show you attended, as well as any specific instances of unprofessionalism you can recall - so we can offer the necessary coaching to the team member in question. Again, thank you so much for your review - and I do hope we get to crate more dance memories with you next season! With Kindness - Michael Ian Cedar, Lead Producer, StarQuest - michael@starquestdance.com
I believe that everyone should be able to express themselves, but when you're working with very young kids, having a shaved head and neck or chest tattoo is something that should maybe be covered up at work. My daughter was a bit scared of the stage manager at the competition. Not to mention that this woman had quite the abrasive attitude and never smiled once at the children.
Dear cwdancing, I am glad you enjoyed the event so much to give it a 5 star review! As for staffing, my team and I intentionally recruit and celebrate road-warriors who exemplify individuality. As a multi-cultural, diverse, and artistic organization, we allow our staff to “come as they are,” provided that they wear the required uniform & that there is no visible display of negative or family-inapproprtiate messaging or imagery. I would like to speak with your studio director in further detail about your concerns regarding the road-warrior's demeanor so I can get facts that will help alleviate any negative perceptions towards my team. My direct extension is 919-629-8206 and my email is Michael@StarQuestDance.com, Michael Ian Cedar - Lead Producer, StarQuest
I just want to add on to my daughter's review and say what a fantastic experience StarQuest was for us. I had a lengthy conversation with the woman who works with the video backstage; I couldn't help but comment on how happy she and her colleagues looked. They were all dancing as they worked, even at 8am! Everyone looked to be having so much fun!
Dear blancheee's Mom - Thank you for your additional amazing and kind words! I am beyond pleased to hear that you and your daughter had such a great time at StarQuest, and I appreciate you noticing how much fun our team has! Did you know that every year at StarQuest our road warriors go through 52 hours of training before interacting with studios and attendees? This is to make sure they have the proper temperament to meet all your needs on competition day. Thank you for making memories with us, and I hope we get to make more with you and your dancer next season! With Kindness - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
me and my friends had the best time this weekend. even though the first girl couldn't give us awards, becky was super cool and so funny. i love starquest .i cant wait for my next comp
Hi blancheee - Thank you for your review! It makes me SO happy to hear you and your friends had such a good time at my San Diego Regional! I will pas along your note to Becky - we agree, she is super cool, funny, and we are proud to have her as a part of the StarQuest family! At StarQuest - one of the factors we hire for is personality, to make sure our road warriors have the right attitude to deliver you a top-quality dance competition experience. Wishing you and your team an outstanding rest-of-season, and I hope to be inspired by you again in 2018! With kindness - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
Best comp eva tbh!
Hi dancerrrr - Thank you SO much for your review! It warms my heart to hear that you think StarQuest is the best competition ever! It's our goal to produce a Broadway-quality competition for all attendees to enjoy, and I'm happy that is what you experienced! Wishing you a great rest-of-season, and I hope to make more dance memories with you in 2018! With Kindness - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
This year in Oklahoma City was our first year attending StarQuest and we LOVED it. The competition finished hours ahead of schedule and everything ran so smoothly. The Emcee was fantastic, the music was great, the videos on the screen were hilarious; we were entertained throughout the day. We thought we would be bored to bits by Saturday evening after waiting for all the dances and awards, but it was a fun, speedy weekend! Do be aware that the 'new yawker' girl who sells videos outside the theater is rude as can be.
Hi lk - Thank you for your review! I can't tell you how happy it makes me to hear your first time at StarQuest was such great experience. One thing we pride ourselves on is delivering our attendees a flawless competition that is consistently running on time, or even early. We know it's a long day on-site for all involved - which is why it's imperative to us that your time offstage is as remarkable as the time your dancers are performing. As for the team member you interacted with at the video lobby - I appreciate your candidness. It's important for us to know the great moments along with those where we can improve. All of our team members were hired for their remarkable service-oriented personalities. Sometimes, just like in everyday life, we don't realize how we are being perceived by others. If there is a certain instance you would like to bring to my team's attention, feel free to let me know. In the meantime I have already passed along your comment to her team leads so they can offer the necessary coaching and guidance at her event this weekend. Thank you again for your review - and I hope we have the opportunity to make more dance memories with you in 2018! With Kindness - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
I wish the awards were real in Collingswood, but I had so much fun with my friends. We always have a good time at comps and we have always heard how good Starquest is, so it was nice going and seeing why everyone says how fantastic it is. Everyone who works there just looks like they are having tons and tons and tons of fun
Dear dance4lyfe - thank you SO much for your review! We loved hosting you at our Collingswood Training Show earlier this February. You don't know how pleased I am to hear that we lived up to the expectations set by your dance family! At StarQuest, it's our utmost goal to deliver a competition that exceeds all others - and I'm overjoyed to hear that you and your friends had fun. The awards at both our Training Shows in Collingswood, and in Smithfield NC, were not real because the competition was a dress rehearsal and therefore the scores were awarded at random and not based on your actual ability. I appreciate your noticing how much fun the StarQuest staff has! At StarQuest, one of the criteria on which we make our hiring decisions is temperament, so we know that our team members have the necessary attitude to make sure your experience is a good one. Wishing you an amazing rest of your 2017 dance competition season, and I hope to make more memories with you next year! With kindness - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
ok comp.
Dear jenng123 - thank you for your review! It's our intention for every dancer, family member, and studio director to leave StarQuest with a positive impression - and from your review, that isn't what you experienced. I am curious to hear from your studio director about where we can improve to deliver you a more favorable competition next season. Please have them reach out to me directly at michael@starquestdance.com or 929.363.2900 x8213. Again, thank you for your feedback. With kindness - Michael Ian Cedar, Lead Producer, StarQuest.
Absolutely professional. And it is so refreshing to attend a competition which runs on time.
Dear srdance - Thank you for your review! One of the things StarQuest is known for is running on time (and often early)! Did you know that it takes a full 12 days from when we begin creating the schedule to when teachers' packets are mailed out? This time allows three StarQuest team members to create, proof, and confirm the weekend's schedule. This is just one of the ways we try to deliver a stress-free competition experience for you and your dancers! Wishing you an excellent season, and thank you again for your review! With kindness - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
Everyone was super nice and smiley and they had a place for all of the boys to change into our costumes
Dear djdylan - Thank you so much for your review! I love that you noticed everyone being extra nice and smiley. Did you know that our staff trains for 52 hours before being allowed to interact with our dancers and studios? This is so I know they are prepared to make sure your dance competition experience is a great one. I also appreciate your noticing that we have separate dressing rooms for boys and girls. It's important to us that all dancers have a comfortable space where you can get ready to perform. Thank you again for your review, and I hope you have an amazing 2017 competition season! With kindness - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
My daughter attended her first competition this weekend in NC. It was a Starquest 'training' Competition, but you would never know these were new hires. The staff was fantastic and so sweet to my daughter. Though the lobby woman I bought her video from seemed a bit fake, the rest of the staff made up for her behavior! The video was absolutely amazing and everything ran so smoothly, it did not seem like anything less than a 'normal' competition weekend that our other daughters have attended in past years.
Dear lrb - thank you for your review, and congratulations on your daughter's first competition! I love that we were able to provide a traditional competition experience for you, while ensuring our staff received hands-on training prior to the official start of the 2017 StarQuest season. I appreciate your note on one of our lobby team members. Our team is very enthusiastic, and we've already taken your comment from DanceCompetitionHub and passed it along to our Tour Managers so they can reinforce the importance of positive but authentic interactions with their teams. I am grateful that you and your family like the quality of our video as well, and had such a wonderful time. Thank you again for your review! Wishing you and your family an outstanding 2017 dance competition season! With kindness - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
Starquest is my favorite comp to go to every year. I'm sad that I am missing the comp this year because of college. I will always have great memories of dancing at starquest comps. I have been doing their comps most of my life, and they, like my team are like family to me. they're sooo nice and always remember me each year. I recommend them to anyone looking for a real, professional comp that treats you well.
Dear SarahQ - thank you SO much for your review! I'm so excited to hear that StarQuest is your favorite competition, and the we've become such an important part of your life. The StarQuest team and I want to encourage a supportive, family atmosphere at our competition - because we believe when dancers feel encouraged, they are able to shine brighter! We will miss you this season, but wish you all the luck at college and beyond - and hope we see you for a visit! With kindness - Mariel, StarQuest Social Media Concierge.
I have been to several Nationals in the past few years but I have to say Starquest was a wonderful experience! I loved walking in and seeing the tables and candles set up for the teachers! Very cool! Love the regional competition as well! Loved the extra special awards! Judging was fair. Competitions were run very smoothly! Can\'t wait for Feb 2017 when we return for our 1st competition of the new season!
Dear kelnron05 - Thank you SO much for your review! Learning that you’ve been to a few National competitions, I really appreciate hearing that StarQuest is such a great time for you! It’s important to me that studio directors and teachers feel recognized for the massive impact they have on your dancers’ season - and I’m grateful the small touches like special tables during Quest for the Best and Classic Dance Off added to the experience. It’s great to hear that you like the special awards too! It’s important to me that the dancers feel recognized for their abilities outside of the traditional scoring metric. I also appreciate your noticing how smoothly StarQuest runs, as we aim to deliver a seamless competition weekend for all of our attendees! Thank you again for your kind words, and I cannot wait to make more dance memories with you in February 2017! With kindness - Mariel Rosen, StarQuest Social Media Concierge.
I love Starquest! The judging is great, the venues they choose are perfect, their staff are nice, and just the overall competition is awesome! I really enjoyed attending the free master classes at their nationals.
We love this competition. We come here every year for nationals. Great classes, Great critiques from judges, staff is very helpful and polite. Even when registering they were extremely helpful.
Dear cashleybrown - Thank you so much for your review! I love that you and your studio come to my Finals year after year! It’s my absolute pleasure to deliver on a superb Finals experience - from our all-inclusive Master Classes to stream-of-consciousness critiques. I also appreciate you noting how helpful and polite the StarQuest staff is! Did you know that each staff member receives 52 hours of training prior to being allowed to talk to studios? This is so they understand the intricacies of your experience and how best to assist you. Again, thank you SO much for your review, and I do hope we get to continue making dance memories with you in 2017! With kindness - Mariel Rosen, StarQuest Social Media Concierge
We were at one of their NJ events, it was decent competition- well organized, even though there were crazy delays on the first day (apparently there was a freak traffic accident) and they handled it well. Not nuts about their judging because they CLEARLY hated tap or didn\'t know how to judge it, it wasn\'t even our routines that were getting screwed and it was obvious enough that we noticed it. The show ran well other than weird judging, and long hours. I split between two and three stars because the staff was nice but i don\'t think starquest actually treats their staff that well...on one of the days I caught one of their staff throwing up in the bathroom from being sick and then went back to working and was there all weekend...i talked to her later and she said she was fine and seemed OK, but as a mom the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth. Still, the kids had fun and we would probably go back to another event with different judges.
Dear getreadytorumble - Thank you for your review. I appreciate your breaking down each element of your experience at StarQuest. Even though, as you said, you had a decent time - decent is not my goal. My goal is to deliver a superb dance competition for you and your dancers, and I’m bummed to hear that was not what you experienced. Which NJ event did you attend last year? I looked at the competition summary, and all of our NJ events began early or within 2 minutes of the scheduled start time. However, being a former NJ resident myself, I do understand how frustrating traffic can be - and how it can make things seem like they aren’t beginning on time. I’m grateful that the staff on-site handled that situation well. In regards to the staff member you saw having stomach difficulty in the bathroom last season, there was a manager last season who experienced a stomach bug over one of the weekends. We were aware of her illness, and she made the decision on her own to continue working throughout the weekend. In regards to the judging you experienced, our judges are experienced in many disciplines, including tap. I feel very fortunate that DanceCompetitionHub has StarQuest listed as one of the top 10 dance competitions that are tap-friendly. I hope listening to the judge’s critiques will provide more insight as to why your routines were scored as such. Also, it may comfort you that we never have the same panel of judges in the same city two years in a row. I would love the opportunity to continue this discussion with your Studio Director and to see how we can continue to improve for next season and get feedback on their perception of the judges. Please feel free to have them contact me directly. Thank you again for your review, and I sincerely hope I have an opportunity to make more dance memories with you in 2017. With kindness - Mariel Rosen, StarQuest Social Media Concierge, mariel@starquestdance.com.
Very nice competition. Would definitely go to again.
Hello mightyone! Thank you so much for your review! It’s our goal to deliver a superb dance competition experience to all who attend, and I’m grateful to hear that is what you experienced. Looking forward to hopefully creating more dance memories with you in 2017! With kindness - Mariel, your concierge.
Pretty good, organized
Hi laurieb! Thank you for your review! I take pride in hosting a well-organized competition, so all you have to worry about is your dancer shining on stage. Did you know that each studio is assigned an event concierge to assure they have a stress-free experience on site? Looking forward to hopefully creating more dance memories with you in 2017! With kindness- Mariel your concierge.
We had an amazing time at the VA Beach Nationals. I am not sure the situation of the people below - but from a different perspective - we only had ONE entry and were treated amazing! We placed 5th overall and won a title. So there was no issue with being small. We ran into several small studios who felt the same. Everyone was so nice, the environment was great - win or lose we felt it was a great experience. We felt the judging was very accurate - the critiques were spot on. They noticed every good and bad point in the dance showing they were really watching it. The dancing was very high level and honestly other than a few off the charts kids - the dancing was very even and I cant imagine how close the scores probably were. Of all the comps we have been to so far - the dancing at this comp was very high level and very impressive. I was impressed with it all personally.
Hi Bolero82 - thank you so much for your review! I’m so happy that you had a positive, fun time at my VA Beach Finals this summer. I’m happy to hear that although you only brought one entry, you felt taken care of. I’m also happy to hear that you found the critiques to be helpful. Our stream-of-consciousness critiques are designed to - as you experienced - touch on every aspect of the routine, while still being encouraging. Thank you again for your review, and I do hope we get to make more dance memories with you in the future. With kindness, Mariel, your concierge.
While I found the regional competition to be very fairly judged, the national competition was swayed heavily toward the studios with many participants. If a dancer was there alone or with a few friends, they had no chance at the overalls or title. I saw many better routines scored lower than the big studios routines that were far inferior!
Hi Thatdancemomma - Thank you for your review. You sound really disappointed after your Finals experience. The entire team take perceptions of size-favoritism very seriously, and work hard to eliminate all bias from my competition - on the Regional and Finals stages alike. By leaving off the studio names from the program, as well as by cross-checking that judges have no ties to studios they are adjudicating, StarQuest enforces multiple protocols to make sure routines are judged with fresh eyes. In addition, whether a studio brings one entry or 100, my staff is dedicated to treat every studio like they are our #1 guests. I hope the judges’ critiques can provide some insight as to why your dancers’ routines were adjudicated the way they were. After listening to the critiques, I’d love to continue the conversation with your studio director, and brainstorm ways I can better serve you. Please have your studio director contact me at michael@starquestdance.com or 919.363.2900 x8213. Again, thank you for your feedback. With kindness - Michael Ian Cedar, Lead Producer - StarQuest
We\'ve always had a very positive experience with StarQuest. I have found their judging to be fair and the judges feedback to be positive and helpful. Their backstage and front of house staff are friendly, positive and make an effort to get to know the students. We are always pleased with StarQuest\'s professionalism and have plan on attending again this upcoming season!
Dear Dancetspa - Thank you for your review. I’m pleased to hear that you find your dancers’ critiques to be helpful. In addition, your comments on my staff have me beaming! Did you know that each staff member receives 52 hours of training before even being allowed to talk to studios? This assures they understand the studio/parent/dancer dynamic, and can best serve your needs while treating you like part of our family. Looking forward to making more dance memories with your dance family in 2017! With kindness - Mariel, your concierge
This was by far the best competition we went to this year. The judges critiques were spot on, age appropriate, and very knowledgable. The event ran on time, the awards were quick and often, and the top ten truly went to who deserved it. I can\'t wait to bring my studio back!
Dear Shampoo - thank you so much for your review! I can’t tell you how much it means to me to hear that my competition was the best you attended this season. I appreciate hearing that your dancer’s critiques were helpful. Did you know that we require our judges to audition? We do this so we can be sure their critiques will be what your dancers deserve. It’s so important to me that our studios have a positive competition experience - and the little touches like an on-time event, swiftly moving awards, and fair adjudications are just pieces of the puzzle. Thank you again for your review, and I can’t wait to make more dance memories with you next season! With kindness - Mariel, your concierge
Can not express strongly enough the professionalism Starquest has to offer. From the minute you register until the end of competition they are there for you 100%. The judges comments are informative and well spoken. I would recommend this competition to all.
Dear Nxgdance - thank you for your review! It is my upmost goal to deliver a top-quality experience for all of our studios, and I appreciate you noting how professional and on-point we run things. Did you know that our judges are actually required to audition for us to assure they are capable of delivering the feedback dancers deserve and studios expect out of a well-run event? Again, thank you so much for your review, and I look forward to hopefully hosting you again next season! Best - Mariel, your concierge
The whole event went smoothly, and it was even one hour ahead of schedule. Awards had pins, medals, plaques, trophies...ect., but we did not appreciate the MC making a comment about a little girl wearing sandals who was called to accept her award. If there is a rule for not wearing sandals or flipflop, it’s better to state it clearly in the rules or somewhere that parents can see, and then we won\'t put the on them. Otherwise, it’s highly unprofessional for the MC to have made any comment about it.
Dear RealFeel - I appreciate the time you took to write this critique. It’s important for me to her the good things that happen at my competition right alongside the areas that could use improvement. It is my utmost goal to deliver a Broadway-quality production for the dancers and their support community - including consistently running on time, and having hardware for dancers to show off their accomplishments. I’m concerned that the emcee at my Kansas City event made a comment regarding a dancer wearing flip-flops that was taken as off-putting. We do not have any restrictions as to what dancers may wear when accepting their awards. I will reach out to our tour manager onsite, Becky, to gather more facts. If there was a specific comment that should be avoided in the future I certainly would want to know what that is so that we can share your story with our emcees. I appreciate your bringing this issue to my attention, and I’d love to continue the discussion further with your studio director. Either let me know which studio you are with, or please have them contact me at concierge@starquestdance.com. Thank you again for your review. Best wishes - Mariel, your concierge
Starquest is always on the top of our list. We attended two regionals this season and are attending Nationals with a few routines. The staff and the way they make you feel like family is what keeps us coming back. We truly loved our Toledo experience and then when we arrived in Grand Rapids, the same staff members were excited to see us again.
Dear dudance: thank you so much for your review and your kind words. It is our upmost goal to deliver a personalized, positive competition experience that keeps studios like yours coming back. Did you know that each staff member receives 52 hours of training to make sure that they are 100% prepared with the skills to deliver top-quality competition, and also gives our staff a chance to become a family - so we can welcome you into ours. Thank you again for your kind words, and we’ll see you at Finals! Best wishes - Mariel, your concierge.
Love this competition!!! It is usually the toughest one I attend but the judging is always excellent!!! Lots of short awards is nice too! The 3 levels are good and usually there isn\'t an issue with studios misusing them. Very professional and very well run events!!!
Dear mermaid2015 - thank you for your review! I’m overjoyed to hear that you’re such a big fan of my competition, and I appreciate you noting how professional and on-point we run things. It’s my utmost goal to deliver a Broadway-quality production to all of our guests, complete with high-caliber talent and judges who provide a comprehensive stream-of-consciousness critique so dancers not only have the opportunity to perform but also receive meaningful feedback on their work. Did you know that our judges are actually required to audition for us - just to make sure they’re capable of delivering the feedback dancers deserve and studios expect out of a well-run event? Again, thank you so much for your review and I look forward to hopefully creating more dance memories with you next season! Best - Mariel, your concierge
We love Starquest... we attend their regionals and their Nationals. The only concern we have is that the last few years, they have taken way too many entries and therefore, the days ( into Mornings) go way too long. No one should have to head home on Sunday night after Midnight for a regional. Hopefully, they will reevaluate this process and I will be able to give them 5 stars, because, they usually have a great event!!
Dear Lene - thank you for your review! It’s important for us to hear what works, as well as the areas where we can improve. When we do have late nights, we make our best effort to ensure that the fewest number of dancers will be affected as possible - in addition to scheduling the weekend so we have as few late nights as possible. Our executive board is constantly evaluating how to keep the weekend running smoothly for all studios. Let me know which event you attended, I’d like to look into the show times for that event. I will also pass your comments along. We recently started a 4th tour so that we can go to many of our larger cities twice a year and help host more studios while simultaneously helping create shorter events. If you have any additional suggestions, please feel free to email me at concierge@starquestdance.com - and I look forward making more dance memories with you at nationals and in future seasons. Best wishes - Mariel, your concierge.
I generally don\'t complain and our girls usually hold their own being a small studio and being in many numbers but I was extremely disappointed in this competition. The rules need to be reviewed as our girls were in many numbers therefore have more than 10 hours, however, they are only dancing one hour a week in each one. I also did not like the fact that categories were mixed together and despite a computer that supposedly adjusts marks, our girls were marked extremely low by one judge which brought their marks down. This was very defeating as they have worked harder than ever in my opinion and didn\'t realize they would be up against dancers who seem to be headed to Broadway or so you think you can dance. Clearly they are dancers who eat, sleep and live dance. I am crossing my fingers that you reconsider what this is all about and how dancers feel when they\'ve worked so hard on extremely technical dances when someone with a cute costume and moves that are provocative can receive a platinum.
By far my favorite competition. Very fair and I love the medals!
Dear playhousedancer02 - Thank you so much for your review! I’m overjoyed to hear that StarQuest is your favorite competition! Did you know that we are the only competition (at least that I am aware of) that requires our judges to audition first? This is so we know the judges we have adjudicating your routines will be unbiased and give you critiques that will help you grow as a dancer. I’m happy that you love the medals, too! I’m going to pass that along to our GM Melissa who orders and designs our awards. This will make her day! Looking forward to making more dance memories with you next season! Best- Mariel, your concierge.
Ill get my small con out of the way with the entrance level rules. Since we are a new studio we have to use many girls in numerous routines until we grow. With that being said my one daughter had over the 9 routines and was bumped to elite for solo when she has only been dancing competitively 2 years. Overall, great experience! Starquest has an event manager that is very visible all the time and very available and friendly. Though they couldnt do anything and I respect the rules, they were too nice and it makes it no big deal. The judges were excellent, the registration was A+. The backstage manager was friendly and A+. Even the woman running the sound was friendly and A+! I even enjoyed purchasing a ton of memorabilia because they are all smiles! Trophies are very nice! Keep up the good work because we can\'t wait to be back next year!
Dear DanceDad29 - Thank you for taking the time to write this review. It’s always nice to hear when parents have a great time at my competition because it means that we’re achieving one of our goals - which is to host a fun, positive experience for all. I hear your concern about your daughter being moved to Select (Elite) for her solo after only dancing for two years. The StarQuest team adjusted the criteria for levels at the end of last season after discussions with multiple studios as to what would be fair and consistent. The needs of this industry are shifting rapidly and we are always tweaking and refining every year to best serve our dancers. Your comments will certainly be considered at this year’s Executive Board summit. I’m excited to hear that our staff was so friendly and accommodating - all of the StarQuest staff undergoes an extensive audition process to assure they have the demeanor for serving in this industry. Thank you again for your kind words, and I look forward to creating more dance memories with you next season! Best wishes - Mariel, your concierge
I must echo the other sentiments regarding the St. Louis competition. The judging was mind boggling! Solos with basic, slow choreography out scored more complicated routines. Technique honestly did not seem to be a factor. And sometimes, it actually appeared that the more unpolished or awkward a number was, the more \"participation points\" the judges wanted to give. The one consistency in judging seemed to be that if you had a schtick or a throwback number, they ate it up. But for well choreographed, well executed routines, the overalls could have been determined by drawing numbers out of a hat. We also were shocked that the competition ran out of programs first thing Saturday morning and ran out of High Gold awards later on. The venue was pretty good and the staff was very nice, but it\'s hard to find a lot else to redeem this experience. While our studio experiments with one or two competitions per year, Starquest has always been a staple. I\'m guessing that will change after this fiasco.
Dear Mom2ADiva - Thank you for your feedback. As a studio that has come to StarQuest many times, you can understand why hearing that you no longer want to come to my competition is saddening. It is my upmost goal to deliver a top-quality competition for all dancers, studios, and their families and it sounds like that wasn’t what you experienced in St. Louis. There were so many comments made regarding judging that after St. Louis, I personally examined the score sheets and created a 29-minute video for our judges. The video reinforces what we expect out of our judges and refreshes the judges and tour team on what our values are at StarQuest. In addition, we never send the same judging panel to the same event two years in a row. This is to assure returning studios have fresh eyes on their dancers year after year. In regards to the lack of programs- the number we print and bring to each competition is based on the amount we have sold in previous years. This year, an unprecedented number of parents purchased programs. Once it became apparent on-site that we had run out, we made copies of programs and did our best to offer a complimentary copy to all studio directors and parents who asked. I checked with the Tour Manager in St. Louis - Becky - and we are unaware of any scenario where we ran out of High Gold (or any other) awards that weekend. If your studio did not receive the awards it should have, please have your studio director reach out to me directly, so I can remedy that. I also welcome the opportunity to speak to your studio director regarding their feelings about adjudications. It sounds like you, your dancer, and your team have put a lot of faith in StarQuest in the past, and this year didn’t live up to the expectations. I want to do my best to change your perception. Please have your studio director contact me at michael@starquestdance.com or 919-363-2900 x 8213. Again, thank you for your feedback. Best wishes- Michael Ian Cedar - Lead Producer - StarQuest
We had a very good experience in Providence. The theater was beautiful. The judging seemed tough but fair. Awards were very efficient but sometimes confusing. They announced some \"distinction\" awards for costumes and the only reason the audience understood was because of the video screen. The kids on stage thought the dances were being recognized for something other than costumes.
Dear dm987654- Thank you for your review! I’m happy you had a good experience at Providence Performing Arts Center! It’s a favorite of our staff to go to, because it is so beautiful, which adds to the experience for all of the dancers and their supporters. I’m happy you found the judging to be fair. We take great care in selecting our judges - even having an extensive audition process to assure our pool of judges can deliver the most accurate stream-of-consciousness critiques. I appreciate your critique of our awards ceremony. Our emcee makes every effort to make sure the audience as well as dancers on stage understand what is going on, but I will pass along your notes to our Production Manager so they can work with our emcees to make sure awards are understandable and fun for all. Thank you again for your feedback, and I look forward to making more dance memories with you in 2017! Best- Mariel, your concierge.
I\'ve never been so disappointed in a dance competition before. My team is always so excited for awards to see how we did, but this past weekend, we already knew what we were going to receive. It shouldn\'t be called StarQuest Dance Competition, it should be called StarQuest Contemporary Competition. My team has never not placed with our tap numbers, but last weekend, the judges had no clue when it came to our tap, leaving us with a gold; which was unacceptable to us. It seemed like the harder we tried to impress the judges the more they would turn away and just mark \"gold\" on their sheets. All of our dancers agreed that every time we stepped on stage, the judges looked pissed that we were on the stage. We had 4 other studios come up to us and tell us that we got screwed over and we should\'ve done so much better. The judges favored their regular studios, so I advise you, if you are a newcomer, with solid technique, a nice stage presence, and the same hair style, DO NOT ATTEND THIS COMPETITION. We were going to attend their nationals, but there is no reason for us to go hours away just to be told something that isn\'t true. If we even get our score sheets back... This competition ran so late that going to school wasn\'t even an option which is so frustrating to not only the dancer, but the parent as well, especially when you have to be pulled out early on Friday because of how long the competition was. I\'m beyond mad about how we scored but our studio is so proud of how we performed. STAY AWAY
Dear Ddancer15- The whole reason for our event is that our dancers walk away from our show feeling encouraged and supported by our judges. It sounds like in this instance your team felt defeated before you even went on the stage. Because of your review, I personally am going to look at the adjudications and category rankings from the St. Louis event, speak to the tour manager, and also address ALL the judges companywide on all 4 tours. In fact, your review created knots so thick in my stomach that just last night, I created a 29 minute video that was passed around to the judges for this upcoming weekend’s event- just to refresh the judges and tour teams on what our values are at StarQuest. It sounds like you have been to my event in the past and had a positive experience. It’s horrifying to hear that a fan of StarQuest has lost some faith in the experience. To help me understand the depth of your disappointment, It would be a great service to me if I had the opportunity to speak with your studio director directly so that I can hear his/her thoughts as well. Please let her/him know that I am can be reached at the office at which they registered your team. I certainly hope that you give me the opportunity to host you and your team with a new panel of judges at an future event. Respectfully, Michael Ian Cedar, Lead Producer, StarQuest International Performing Arts Competition..
Outstanding competition! Comp ran about an hour early all weekend. Things were moving. Attracts a high level of talent. Judging seemed reasonable. Emcee and backstage staff were personable and professional. Very impressed! PPAC is a beautiful theater but the dressing rooms stink. The no food policy is a big pain and makes a long comp day very difficult for the dancers who do not have time to go offsite.
Hi Dancyshmancy! Thank you for your review! We take pride in running a high-caliber production, and that largely falls to on the plate of our staff - so I’m grateful we were able to deliver that to you and your dancer. I understand your frustration regarding PPAC’s no food policy and the dressing room situation. We’re always looking for new venues to host our competition. Please have your studio director contact me with any suggestions for next year. Again, I’m pleased we were able to impress you - as that is our goal. Thank you again for your feedback, and I hope we see more of you in 2017! Best- Mariel, your concierge.
First I would like to point out a positive: The emcee and backstage/merchandise staff in STL were wonderful! Very nice and I thought the emcee did a wonderful job during the awards ceremonies. I also liked that they gave out kindness awards and enjoyed seeing girls really trying to be encouraging of each other. I just wish they would have given a special ribbon, pin, certificate to those that they recognized. I thought that was odd..but again, still neat that they do that. Now to the disappointments: the judging....I have NO idea what they are looking for here. Dancers who had harder choreography that could actually leap, have full/proper extensions, nice arms and feet on turns, etc, scored lower than girls who could do an aerial, had very basic/choreography and look cute. No offense to these girls because they did a great job, but when a dancer is TECHNICALLY better than one who gets on stage and puts on a cute jazzy performance but can\'t properly execute basic DANCE skills...the dancer with good dance training/technical execution should NEVER be beaten by a cutesy little one that doesn\'t. While the performance is important the actual dance skills should be most important. Starquest needs to decide if they\'re having a DANCE competition or a \"bless your heart, you\'re too cute\" competition. They do not give out technique awards or choreography awards for solos which is crazy weird...just random made up/irrelevant awards. Also, the costume awards were an absolute JOKE...not given to well made, truly beautiful costumes! Overall, I was extremely upset with how blatantly unfair the judging was for the most part, specifically for solos. I immediately told my studio owner that I prefer to not return to this comp. Sad because I did really like the staff, venue, and other neat little things they did. I just thought this was supposed to be a DANCE competition.
Hi Momma_MIA3- You had me at, \"Starquest needs to decide if they\'re having a DANCE competition or a \"bless your heart, you\'re too cute\" competition.” As a competition that is revered for its judging, your comment scares me half to death. The people sitting at the judging table make or break the entire event no matter how good my staff is (by the way, thank you for recognizing my team. I’m very proud of them. This company is comprised of some amazingly caring individuals). After hearing comments about the judging in St. Louis, I created a 29 minute video that is going out to all our judges this weekend to re-review what the values at StarQuest are. I also met with ALL the tour managers of all 4 events and worked with them on reiterating the messages of the video onsite with the judges. Unfortunately I am unable to be in every city every weekend to address all the judges. I will be looking at the scoring of the St. Louis event to evaluate how I will address the judges from that weekend in specific. Please know that your review is being taken very heavily by me and the entire Executive Board of StarQuest. We never have the same panel of judges in the same city two years in a row. In fact we have approximately 60+ judges on our team. I hope that in itself is compelling enough to give StarQuest a 2nd chance. I hope that the judges critiques do offer some more insight for you and your dance family and that you can find some great feedback to grow from. It sounds like at this moment we do not possess your full trust, and I hope that you offer me the opportunity to start building that back with you. I am interested in learning which studio you\'re from so my concierge team and I can reach out to your director personally to get some further insights to your disappointment. Either have your director reach out to me directly or shoot me a line and let me know who to contact at your studio. Much respect- Michael Ian Cedar, Lead Producer, StarQuest. Michael@StarQuestDance.com.
Our studio has competed at Starquest in previous years. We have generally been pleased with the experience. This weekend, the staff was very nice and the competition ran smoothly. However, there were two things that prompted me to write this review. The judging was a bit questionable. But more importantly, the competition hours were terrible. Making children miss school on a Friday to do a junior solo? These are children. They should not be expected to arrive at a venue at 6am with hair and makeup done. They should not be attending award ceremonies at 11:00pm, which doesn\'t get them back home until 12:00-1:00am, only to have another call time at 6am the next morning. And teen solo awards scheduled for 10:00 on a Sunday night when we are talking about 12-14 year old children who have school the next day? My daughter waited close to four hours to perform her solo after an exhausting weekend of dancing. In my opinion, starquest refused to cap the number of entries and greedily accepted everyone, to the detriment of the entire competition. You have parents held hostage...theyve paid for choreography, costumes and rehearsals The SO\'s have chosen your competition so they must attend, and you force children and families who have spent nine months rehearsing to perform at ridiculous hours of the day and night when they can\'t possibly put their best foot forward. My child could not attend school on Monday due to exhaustion and slept until 1:30 in the afternoon on Monday, missing school. This is not acceptable and I place the blame squarely on Starquest\'s shoulders. I have strongly asked SO to not support Starquest competitions again until they agree to cap the entries to a reasonable amount. Many many parents at the studio agree with this review and I\'m fairly certain the SO will not choose Starquest for us again. It\'s too bad because it did not have to be a negative experience.
Dear mommy- One of the great things about DanceCompHub is it gives everyone an opportunity to share their thoughts. Generally as an Executive Member of StarQuest I only hear the feedback directly from studio directors, so thank you for taking the time to put your thoughts down. I’m happy that despite the long hours, you were generally pleased with the competition experience. When our event managers make the schedule, we try to assure as few dancers are affected as possible. I see from the report that the Providence competition ended earlier than scheduled all three nights, with awards ending at 9:21pm on Sunday- 49 minutes earlier than planned, but still it sounds as if this was too late for your team. As an organization that is committed to inspire as many artists as possible, it’s extremely challenging to determine who to turn away. In fact there were over a hundred entires that we had to turn away from our 2016 Providence event. We didn’t want to start any earlier than we did on Friday. But you are correct, that was the most amount of entries we have had in Providence for a 3-day show. That was a unique instance. There came a point where we had to look at ourselves and say enough is enough. It\'s hard to turn away people who love our experience so much, but it’s something we do indeed need to do. I’m grateful that your daughter was able to have the opportunity to compete with us. Unfortunately it sounds like we have made us lose your vote to come to StarQuest in the future. Hopefully I can gain that back! I am going to meet with the remainder of the Executive Board before the season ends for us to discuss your review and determine the best course of action I would like to know which studio you are with so my concierge team and I can reach out to learn more of your director\'s thoughts on our scheduling. My email is Michael@StarQuestDance.com. I do hope that I have the opportunity to host you in the future. Respectfully- Michael Ian Cedar, Lead Producer, StarQuest
My mother came to watch my daughter dance her solo and fell on the stairs breaking her leg. My daughter was standing with her when she fell. It was a VERY BAD break and we had to call the paramedics and the fire department just to get her out of the building and to a hospital. The staff from StarQuest were fantastic. They came to make sure we were okay, ask if we needed anything, brought us water, an ice pack and continued to come back and check on us while we waited for paramedics. One staff member in particular, who I wish I had gotten her name, was very concerned and took great care of us. In addition, the back stage staff put all of our studio\'s dances on hold so the girls could compose themselves and get ready to perform once the ambulance had left. My daughter danced well after her scheduled time as did a few other girls from our dance team. The video staff even put her solo on a flash drive so my mother could see the performance from her hospital room later that night. So many people think that the community around dance and dance competitions is cold and very competitive but those of us who are involved in dance know that when it comes down to it we are all one big family who is just here supporting our children who are doing what they love to do. Competitions like StarQuest are a big part of that. Because of your help and understanding my daughter went on to dance her solo, received a High Gold and 14th over all even after all of what had happened.
Hi WriterMom! Thank you for your feedback. I’m grateful that the StarQuest staff was able to assist with what must have been a very traumatic situation for not only your mother, but your family and your studio’s team. That really just speaks to our obsession for providing the best possible customer service in every and any instance. I’m grateful your daughter was able to have a successful competition as well. Wishing you mother a speedy recovery and thank you again for your review. Best- Mariel, your concierge (PS, please let us know how your mother is doing! concierge@starquestdance.com )
I can\'t say that this weekend was a complete waste bc my daughter danced stronger and more beautiful then she ever has, she had beautiful technique and learned that you are your only true judge. I walked away scratching my head wondering if we were at a dance competition or a pageant talent show. If you are a technical dance studio who works on posture, muscle control, pointed feet and straight lines, this compition is not for you. They judge based on what studio you are from and how cute your dance is. My daughter received a high gold, and I have no problem with that. I however am shocked that the girls who tried to pull a scorpion and couldn\'t, the girl who didn\'t connect or spot in her turns, the girls with bent supporting legs all received platinum, solely bc of the studio they were from. My daughter walked away knowing she did her best and that\'s all that matters, but I will never again waste my money with compition, they are receiving a lot of bad reviews and all for the same thing, I think they really need to take a look at how they judge. Dancing is about technique not just shaking your bottom and a few shimmys! Again, if you are a technical studio look at comps like Hall of Fame, Showbiz, Masqurade bc this comp does not care anything about technique and clean dancing! And I agree, I don\'t even have a tapper, but they hate tap or don\'t know how to judge it!
Dear Dancemomof1- You are correct, we are getting a lot of feedback about the St. Louis event this year. I was personally not there, but am going to be getting involved with the post-mortem of the event. It kills me inside seeing a review like this, since we are revered as competition that is known for quality and our fair adjudications. Yesterday I created a 29 minute video that went out to all the judges to make sure that everyone is on the same page regarding our values as a competition. All this being said, it’s nice to hear that you daughter performed so well. I hope that the judges’ critique can offer some additional growth opportunity for your daughter too. I would be interested in speaking with your studio director. If you would like to email at michael@starquestdance.com or have your director reach out to me directly I can learn more about your teams disappointment if the event. No matter what in the next week my concierge team will be reaching out to all the studios from that event to gather as many facts as possible. Your review is taken with a heavy heart and a serious plan of action moving forward. Best- Michael Ian Cedar, Lead Producer, StarQuest International Performing Arts competition.
If I could give StarQuest zero stars, I would. In ten years of dance competitions I\'ve attended, this was THE most unfairly judged, biased, and ultimately terrible competition. If it was just our studio that scored in the adjudications poorly, I wouldn\'t even waste time writing this. But there were multiple, very strong, technical dance schools at this competition, and there was essentially only one company that received high adjudications. There were about four studios that had flawless numbers, yet only one or two scored well. Is choreography preference supposed to weigh in on the adjudications? Doesn\'t an adjudication system allow for numbers to compete against themselves? We had multiple, routines that were exceptional, receive golds. . . for no explainable reason. I am not a parent wearing rose-colored glasses, we certainly don\'t have every routine at our studio perfect, but any observer could clearly tell there were preferential ratings given. When people from other studios are approaching you, a parent from a competing studio, and saying, \"Wow, that number was amazing, you really got screwed,\" it\'s clearly a problem. In the bathrooms, people were talking about it. In fact, later in the weekend I sat behind the judges, and there were a few routines the judges didn\'t even watch! Apparently once they recognized the studios \"hair-style\" they felt they could disengage as if no number would be of interest??? We, as parents, invest a lot of money in getting effective, honest feedback so our children can improve their dances, to learn and grow over time. We are customers! We were going to nationals and I\'m SO grateful our studio parents made the decision to bring our business elsewhere (close to $40,000 your company lost out on). In an era where there are plenty of dance competitions, you better make certain that judging doesn\'t offend customers so much they never want to come back. You have nothing better at your contest than any other contest.
Dear Happy 1709- I take your review very seriously. I did reach out to the owner of DanceCompHub and asked if they would be able to override the system to reflect your request for 0 Stars, but apparently it is not possible without changing the coding to the entire site. One of the things that I appreciate about DanceCompHub is its ability to give our guests a voice. Generally my team and I speak primarily with studio directors. It doesn\'t sit well with me at all how disappointed you are in your experience. Our adjudication system is designed to remove studio bias- and our judges are not informed or aware of which studio is performing. I have spoken with a studio director who has similar feelings to you. If you find out that it was not your studio director with whom I spoke, please have your studio rep reach out to me so I can find out more about your experience. I can be reached at michael@starquestdance.com to discuss your teams experience with judging. Best- Michael Ian Cedar, StarQuest International Performing Arts Competition.
In st louis. Judges must be clueless about tap. Highest award at every dance competition except this one. Actually got a high gold. Performances were awesome. I can admit when we are bad but this was just poor judging.hopefully gets better or get a new judge. Update: got so much worse!!# these judges are a joke! I invite any one that knows anything about tap to please watch this competition in st. Louis. Unbelievable bad. My disappointment with this competition cannot be explained in words. We talked witg the lady running it. She could not offer anything except she would review the critiques. We caught another studio video our tap number. We told the stage manager and he told us there is nothing he could do and he suggested we go talk with parent. Seriously? This competition not only has judges that do not know what they are doing but is going to let others video tape our kids and do god knows what with it?
Dear Tappro- Thank you for your feedback. I’m very surprised to hear about the Stage Manager not addressing the photography/video issue. We work extremely hard to assure that no photography or videos are taken during competitions and I will speak with our staff to reinforce our procedures for handling outside individuals recording routines. There are other guests from my St. Louis event who share your thoughts about the judging. Personally, I will be looking at at the scores and addressing the judges from that event. I am going to have my Concierge team reach out to ALL the studios from the St. Louis event to make sure we understand exactly what the temperature of the event was so we can expedite our ability to ensure you never have to write a review like this about my event again. As a teacher of the studio, I welcome you to reach out to me directly to share you thoughts. Respectfully,- Michael Ian Cedar, StarQuest Performing Arts Competition- michael@starquestdance.com.
Attended Starquest a couple weekends ago in Ohio. I really enjoyed it. The competition was run very smoothly. Felt judges were fair. Loved the extra awards! The first night of solos on Friday night the lady announcing the awards was super fast!! No one could understand her and it was very confusing to both the parents and children onstage! Thank goodness the following day she slowed down! :) Will return.
Hi dancermom2! Thank you for your review! I’m happy to hear our Toledo regional was a good experience for you and your dancer. We try to keep awards moving quickly, but at an understandable pace- of course. Your MC that weekend, Keri, was given feedback after the first day, and I’m happy to hear she took her notes to heart and adjusted her pace for the remainder of the competition. It’s great to hear that you enjoyed the extra awards! Thank you again for your feedback and we look forward to seeing you in 2017! Best- Mariel, your concierge.
We had a great first time experience at StarQuest. We are a newer studio to our area with 22 dances entered. At times, in the competition industry, you can feel left behind if you do not have 100 routines entered. We felt very welcomed by the staff. This was refreshing for us. The event was well managed backstage and ran very smoothly. The judges provided positive feedback, while also offering constructive criticism as well. The awards ceremony was great--I enjoy when there is video footage in the ceremony. Made the day even more special for my dancers. Thanks for a great first competition of the season!
Hi sedancer! Thank you for your review! I’m overjoyed that we were able to give you and your dancers such a positive experience, especially for your first competition of the season. Regardless of the size of a studio, our staff is trained to treat each studio like they’re the only entry. We take pride in running our competition like a well-oiled machine- and that’s due to our extremely well-trained staff and judges. Did you know that we’re the only competition that requires our judges to audition prior to being offered the opportunity to adjudicate one of our events? We recognize that the competition experience can be long, and like to take the extra step - like having video footage during awards - to add to the experience. Thank you for kicking off your season with StarQuest, and thank you again for your feedback! Best- Mariel, your concierge
5 stars all the way! The staff is unmatched in communication skills, keeping in touch with you throughout the year. Love Becky (our rep)!! Such a sweetheart. We have been to this competition several times and always love it. Dates have not worked out this year, but we hope to return in the future....
Hi Dancebear- thank you so much for your feedback! We take pride in having a staff that goes above and beyond- from the extensive hiring process to two-week training intensive- we make sure our staff has the heart and energy to serve in this industry. Our studios are part of the StarQuest family, so we stay in touch with you year-round, not only to keep you apprised of competition news but also because we genuinely care about you! The dates game is always tough, but we’re looking forward to reconnecting with you and your dancers soon! Thanks again for your review! Best- Mariel, your concierge.
StarQuest is truly amazing! I attended this weekend in NY and we couldn\'t have been more pleased! Lori, backstage, was so incredible and helpful! Ricky, tour manager, has to be the most understanding and kind person I\'ve ever encountered at a dance competition! Thank you to the judges for perfectly placed awards and encouragement!
Hi NosNaws21- thank you so much for your review! It sounds like your dancers had an awesome weekend. I’m happy to hear that Lori and Ricky were so helpful! Our staff undergoes a rigorous hiring process then a two-week training intensive to make sure they’re able to provide a top notch experience for all. Thank you for you positive feedback, and we look forward to seeing you next season! Mariel, your concierge
This was the worst competition we have ever attended and we will not be back. The cost is ridiculously high and the awards were a complete joke. Our dancers felt as if they were non existent to the judges. If you had any class at all as a dancer and wore an appropriate costume you may as well go home. Dancers were wearing Victoria Secret underwear as a costume with no tights. There were dads completely uncomfortable sitting in the auditorium. It didn\'t matter how perfectly performed your dance was a High gold was the only thing they adjudicated unless you were of course practically naked on stage. Technique didn\'t matter. We have a lot of different level dancers in our studio with a range of ability. There was no variation in scoring between a low level dance or a high performer.. all High Gold or Gold didn\'t matter how well you did. This was the worst competition and a complete waste of money. Our studio will not be back and we will spread the word in our community. We are all connected and we have a lot of amazing studios in this area but I will ensure they don\'t bring their talent to this competition. I would not want to watch their dancers go through what our dancers did this weekend. Our dancers know how to win and know how to lose and can recognize where they are in the talent pool. They have done this for many years. They don\'t need a pole dancing judge to tell them they aren\'t good enough. I am not sure how a pole dancing judge is qualified to judge our highly technically trained dancers. Spinning on a pole is not the same as a beautiful pirouette. I as well as all of our parents were disheartened at the disgrace this competition brought to our dancers. Perhaps the reason for the auctioneer running the awards. So we couldn\'t hear how poorly they were being judged. Absolutely terrible and we as a studio will not be back. Our money will be spent somewhere else. Worst competition ever and most expensive on top of it! WHAT A WASTE!
Hello 52748. It really sounds like you walked away from this event with a bad taste in your mouth. I have to admit, I obsess about delivering an exceptional experience to all our guests. So I take your comments to heart. If possible, I’d like the opportunity to talk with your Studio Director to hear their thoughts as the team’s representative. They can reach me at: 919-363-2900 or email michael@StarQuestDance.com - Respectfully, Michael Ian Cedar - StarQuest, Lead Producer.
The judging was horrific. They ran out of HG awards because that is all they gave out! How defeating for the dancers. We have an incredible group of dancers. Very technical, expressive and talented. Waste of time and money. We won\'t be back
Hi awilberry: Our slogan is “The Experience Is The Real Award”, so I take it seriously when a guest walks away not wanting to return because they had a bad experience. In the Dance Comp world there are times that the opinion of an audience and the opinion of a judge differ, which is why the StarQuest judges give a “stream of consciousness\" critique to help justify the adjudication level. I do hope your studio\'s critiques offer insight as to the scores that were given, but I do know that the critique alone may not be enough to change the opinions of the dancers, teachers, and parents of a studio. You are correct, we did have an anomaly occur at the Davenport event where we ran out of High Gold Medals. We immediately switched to giving out high gold plaques so there was no interruption in awards being given out. To my knowledge everyone walked away with an award. If one of your team’s dancers or your child would prefer to have the medal, please have your studio director let me know and and I’ll be sure to have my team get a replacement out to you. It really sounds like my team and I did not hit your expectations in Davenport, and for that I am sorry and I hope to find a way to have your dance family return in the future. I would like the opportunity to talk to your studio director (who is your team representative) to find out more about their overall thoughts. My email is michael@starquestdance.com and I can be reached at 919-363-2900 - Sincerely, Michael Ian Cedar, Lead Producer
Nova is Nova for a reason. First time with this competition and we may not return. The staff was extremely friendly! However, everything else was disappointing. Foremost, was the awards, emcee, and we had no dressing room to return to on Sunday. I truly appreciate the customer service from beginning to end! From the registration process, the conclusion surveys and the follow up competition call.
Hello PDD! I’m glad to hear our staff made you feel welcome. We hire our team members for their outstanding positive attitudes. Also, our staff attends a 2-week training intensive prior to assure they have the tools necessary to provide top-quality service to all of our studios and dancers. I’d like to hear more about the dressing room situation you experienced, as all studios are provided with a dressing room for the duration of the competition. It does sound like you had a unique situation. Over the past few years Levels have become a new staple in the dance competition industry, and all the competition directors, including myself, are still trying to nail the perfect criteria. Just like your dancers, I can improve the show through constructive feedback. I would love to hear more about why the StarQuest experience wasn’t what you were expecting. I am going to have a concierge call you this week to follow up and debrief with you. You can always email me directly as well: Michael@StarQuestDance.com Thank you for your critiques! Best- Michael Ian Cedar, Lead Producer.
First time-Overall good experience. Wanted to share some feedback: Venue is one of my favorites. The competition had no problem running on time & I think that was partly to due to the fact that they had a speaker in the dressing room so you could hear what numbers were on, which led to us being more prepared. EVERY COMP SHOULD DO THIS! Staff was extremely nice and helpful and overall there was a very positive feeling throughout the weekend. The ONLY reason I did not give 5 stars was becasue of the awards ceremony. The awards and judging seemed overall fair, a couple of \"no way\" moments but all comps have that. Our issue was with the awards ceremony itself. The announcer they had for the weekend was not good. The first night she spoke way too fast to follow along with and the kids were confused. The entire weekend she mispronounced everything, which I understand can be tough but still distracting & overall she also was a bit awkward and very specific about where she wanted the kids to stand, like to a distracting degree. Maybe she just needs more time on the mic but she definately needs work. The competition put up details on different awards and things on the screens which was helpful, since the annoucer didn\'t do a great job of explaining what was going on. The order of the awards was hard to follow, since it did not follow along with the program but rather by level but then they would throw in a top awards then an adjudication with the top then costume awards and awards for photogenic then back to adjudication. I\'m sure on paper it makes sense but coming from an audience\'s perspective it was hard to follow and frustrating. The music needs to be amped up. I\'m not saying you need to be like other comps & have t-shirt guns but playing bosa nova and news reporter music throughout, what is suppose to be, an exciting crescendo to a long weekend, didn\'t really set the right mood. Looking forward to Nationals, hopefully you can make some tweaks in the meantime. Thx
Hello DanceTeacher! Thank you so much for your positive and constructive feedback. I am thrilled to know your overall experience was a great one. The reason we have the speakers in the dressing rooms is for the exact reason you appreciated them, so it is great to know that the system works! Also, StarQuest is the only competition that requires our judges to audition before they can join the team. We ensure that they are able to follow our recipe for successful and helpful audio critiques for you and your dancers. As far as the Emcee is concerned, all of our Emcees spend one on one time during their two week training with the President and Founder, Steve Wappel, to ensure that the delivery of the awards ceremonies are consistent across the weekends. It appears that you attended the Millstone, NJ competition. I will have the concierge team take a look into the awards ceremonies and offer up suggestions for our Millstone Emcee to make improvements. Just like your dancers, our competition and our staff can only grow by receiving feedback, both positive and constructive from our guests, so thank you so much for your words! I look forward to seeing you at World Finals! Steph, Your Concierge.
I love this comp! The expectations they have of its participants are great and I know that every time we attend our studio will be challenged. Awards are good but lengthy bit that is about as bad as it gets. Can\'t wait for Nationals this year!
Thank you Momofafewdancers! Very happy to hear your experiences at StarQuest have been positive! Your StarQuest family is obsessed with the best version of your dancer. I\'m glad our intentions are coming across! Looking forward to seeing you this year! Thanks again! Steph - Your Concierge
I loved the positivity, the great communication and overall great feel! My little one had a great time!
I am so happy to hear your little dancer had a good time! Thank you jilld047! It is the pleasure of our entire staff to help you have a positive experience! Steph - Your Concierge
great experience. twice with this
Thank you hubfunk! I hope to see you a third time this year! And please e-mail me directly at concierge@starquestdance.com to let me know what I could’ve done differently to earn that last star from you. ;-) Steph, your concierge
This comp was well attended and the format was great. The best part are the video clips that play between numbers and the video played of first place overall winners. Will definitely compete here again!
Thank you AJKC! The videos are actually one of my favorite things about our competition. The goal of Steve Wappel, the President & Founder, is to encourage the audience to feel like they are attending a show, not just a competition. The video transitions helps the show keep a forward motion and never feel stagnant. I am happy to hear you will be joining us again, and look forward to having you! Steph, Your Concierge
Love this competition all the way from start to finish. Great staff, great judges and great comp. I have always enjoyed Starquest and look forward to my next opportunity with this establishment.
Thank you so much Nowyourtalkin! I love hearing feedback about the staff because they undergo a 2 week intensive training every year before they come in contact with your dancers! They are also required to spend one on one time with our Lead Producer, Michael Ian Cedar, to go over Customer Service Relations. We do this so that no matter who you encounter, your experience is consistent. Thank you again for your kind words! I look forward to seeing you again this season. Steph, Your Concierge.
Our studio attends every year and it\'s always fun. Judging has always been fair with useful critiques. We attend in Lancaster and while the hotel in general is a little dated I enjoy the fact it is a hotel with a restaurant/bar availability as well as StarQuest providing food options. Removes the concern for having to run out to get food in between awards.
Thank you for your positive feedback, 05ally. Our booking team works very hard to find hotels that are affordable, convenient and comfortable for our guests! I will be sure to let the booking department know your thoughts on the hotel. Thank you so much for choosing StarQuest, and I look forward to hosting you again this season! Steph, your concierge: Concierge@starquestdance.com
I\'ve always been a fan of StarQuest. The judges are fair and it is run well with great awards!
Thank you so much for your positive feedback, Texas Girl! Did you know that StarQuest is the only competition that requires judges to audition before they interview? It is extremely important to our President, Steve Wappel, that our judges are focused on your dancers being their best by learning and growing from the stream of consciousness critiques! Thank you again and I look forward to seeing you again this year in Texas! -Steph, your concierge.
didn\'t like how they had intermediate dancers judged against beginner dancers. they skipped one of our songs at awards
