We attending Nationals in 2019. I personally HATE competitions in event centers where seating is metal chairs. It Wasn't what my students expected at all for a National Event. I was also extremely disappointed in the time schedule. They were almost 3 hours AHEAD of schedulr and my students nearly missed being on stage. I love when competitions run ahead but each block should start at the correct time. My girls literally ran through the door and ran right to the stage, already missing their number and performing out of turn and last. It was very stressful on them. We likely won't return.

First let me just start by saying that our studio just had an amazing time at Nationals in Myrtle Beach! We believe the judging was as fair as it gets. Didn’t seem to be any favoritism going on. Staff was incredibly friendly except for a few of the teenagers behind the concession stand. Here and there a few of them seemed lazy or a bit rude at times. We love love loved the director of this event! What a pure and genuine heart he has and a clear love for what he does! Also extremely funny and kept things lively and fun as possible! Venue was clean and decent except not enough seating so tons of people ended up on the floor throughout the week. That was not exactly fun when you have to sit there for long hours! Agree with some of the other reviews about how they allow studios to place their dancers in lower divisions and don’t do anything about it. Very disappointing. It was very clear that two studios in particular did this at this event. Awards were a bit disappointing. They only hand out a trophy to first place. 2-20 get a metal sign. We did not understand why 2nd and 3rd wouldn’t receive something just a little more special than the same sign everyone through 20th place received. Just a metal sign that says top score award. Very cheap in our opinion. The awards were just extremely cheap. Star Talent, you all can definitely do better than this and especially at Nationals! Kids work hard all year and deserve better than this! Overall we had a great experience but don’t know if we will be attending again next year. Make a few changes and you all will have a near perfect competition to attend!
Absolutely the worst Judging I have ever seen! Rudeness from staff and WHAT IS A HIGH GOLD FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! I just don’t understand how so many dances can all be High Gold! I will never give money to this again. Truly my kids did fine but it was so boring. Someone needs to tell the judges this is not Disney…. I was disappointed at the regular competition but I was hoping nationals would be better nope not at all never again!
This is our studio's 4th year attending. I can say that I will not allow my daughter to participate next year. This system is heavily biased toward studios that bring a large amount of dancers. I've heard this from many people across the country. The venue: Not enough bathrooms. Sorta dirty. Judging: Also dirty. Staff: Didn't interact with anyone.. Awards: Could be better. Every pin my daughter has received has fallen off it's backing. Her "medal" was generic and cheap feeling. For the money they bring in, they could find a better venue and get better awards.
Hi. We would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you as I am not sure Star Talent Productions is the correct competition for your review. We only operate in the southeastern US, while we would love the entire country talking about us...I'm not sure we are there yet. Judges are prescreened before events, we would be happy to share a sample. Please feel free to contact us.
Absolutely love Star Talent!!! We go every year and attend Nationals as well!! Friendly staff and well organized!! Our dance family always looks forward to this one!! Thank you for making competitions fun!!
I probably won't be returning to this competition, because I feel there are better options out there. It was a bit unorganized. We were originally told the competition would be held at Charleston Civic Center, but due to renovations, it was moved two blocks over to Charleston Municipal Auditorium, which my studio did not find out about until the first day of the competition. I was actually the one who found out and spread the word, lol! The venue was disappointing. It was a nice size, and a pretty convenient location, but it was run down, in need of some serious cleaning, not enough working bathrooms were accessible, and had a lack of electrical outlets. The venue staff was sorta rude, but the actual competition staff was nice. I liked that they had reserved seating for teachers, I thought that was a really nice thought. I had some issues with the levels. The levels were not at all enforced. I saw some routines entered in the novice category that should have been in their elite category. No one moved them up or did anything about it. I also had issues with one of the backstage managers, who told me my solo was on in three dances. Guess how long I ended up waiting backstage? TWO HOURS! Crazy. Some of the studios were really snooty. All of the dancers here were crazy talented, but the rudeness between studios was ridiculous. They gave out REALLY nice awards. Gorgeous plaques and trophies! Warning: I wouldn't purchase videos at this competition. They are extremely low quality for the price you pay. The judges critiques, were extremely helpful. The judges were quite distracting though. They were dancing around to the point where it was ridiculous. I'm really glad they were enjoying themselves but it was SUPER distracting. At some points, you could even HEAR the judges talking. Overall, I had a good time, but I probably won't be returning because I feel like there are better options out there.
This was our 5th year going and StarcTalent only gets better! We travel about 4 hours to attend but it\'s so worth it! The judges are fair, impartial and usually right on the money. Critiques are helpful. This is always our favorite competition of the year!
Thank you for your review
Loved it! The judges were so engaged and gave EVERY SINGLE ROUTINE a fair shot. You can see how engaged they were in all the routines and showed no favoritism. The judges also didn\'t take many breaks even though the weekend was sold out with over 500 routines! It was awesome to see their excitement and dedication. Lots of beautiful awards for the dancers; and the staff was so friendly. We will be going back and may attend their Nationals this year!
Thank you! We hope to see you at Nationals!
It\'s always well organized, judging seems fair and consistent. I think that the excel category needs to be widened to accept girls who have little experience but dance a lot.
Thank you for your review!
Such a great and friendly competition! This is one of our favorites and we always look forward to going back!!
Thank you! we are excited to celebrate season 10 in 2016!
This competition is great! We love the staff and the judges!! Worth every penny!
Thank you! We look forward to seeing you in 2016!
We had the BEST experience! GREAT competition! It ran on time or ahead of schedule all weekend. The emcee kept things entertaining when the judges needed a break. The venue was nice.
Thank you! Emcee James will love to hear this!
Our favorite competition! Since you are growing you may want to look into larger venues! Awesome competition! One of the best!!
Thank you!
Good time at Star Talent in Roanoke. Organized and they ran ahead!
Thank yo! We love Roanoke
My daughter has been competing for three years and we love Star Talent. We love the competition, the fair awards, the great mc\'s and parent involvement. Also the set-up for affordable video\'s, as well as great affordable souvenirs at the event is a plus. Can\'t wait to be there soon!
One of our studio\'s favorites! Competition runs smoothly and on time! Judging is fair for all.
Thank you for posting
my daughter competed in the regional last May and then Nationals in July. We loved the competition and if she wasn\'t a sophomore in college now, would definitely do the competition again. I would definitely recommend this competition to other studios.
The you! We have a category for adults too!!!!
Last year, even with things preventing people from being able to get to the venue on time, they kept things running smoothly. The only thing I would like to see a change in, is that every award looks the same. There is no differentiating awards between platinum, gold, etc.
Thank you for your review. Look for updates to your concerns in 2016!
Competition runs late into the night with lots of backing up to skipped routines.
We apologize that you are not satisfied with our event. I see that you are from Virgina. Both events Portsmouth and Roanoke ran early in 2014. Roanoke was concluded (awards over) by 10:30 Saturday evening and Sunday we ran well over an hour early (with the permission of studio directors as a winter storm was approaching) Awards were over by 8:15pm Portsmouth was not a sold out event, each day was concluded by 6pm We will be happy to provide scheduled and actual times to anyone who requests them
Fantastic competition!!! Backstage people are great!! Always helpful!! Awards run great!!! Judges are fair and give you corrections on a flash drive as well as a score sheet!!! The staff is always helpful no matter what we asked them about!! I will continue to go back!!
Thank you! We look forward to your return, we have some new and exciting things in store for 2015!
Nice competition. Schedule runs early about an hour or more.
Thank you for your rating!
We have attended this competition for the past two years and had a great experience both times. Nice, large venue. Very professional, ran on time, fair and professional
Thank you! We hope to see you again, we have some new and exciting things in store for 2015!
What a fun competition! It was a positive experience for all of our dancers. Ran ahead of time. Back stage staff was extremely helpful and we loved the audience participation!
Thank you! We would love to see your dancers again! Thank you! We have some new and exciting things in store for 2015!
Great venue. The dances ran consistently out of order but stayed well ahead of time. The experience was great and I would go back anytime!!
Great Comp! Runs on time, everyone recieves a trophy and the kids had fun.
Thank You! We are so glad the kids had fun!!!!
Good times!
Good times will continue! Thank you! We have some new and exciting things in store for 2015!
I\'m a true believer that you get the score based on your dancing ability. Well I found out at this competition the more props or should I say back drops you had the higher the score. All though our girls did great and placed in all of the overalls I saw toes not pointed, bent knees, popped hips the list goes on and these teams received Platinum awards. I was also dumb founded by the music that was so inappropriate for a production that received overall Entertainment award for having ages 7 and up dancing to let me lick your lollipop with some nasty moves. To me it put a bad taste in my mouth. Not sure if I would allow my girls to go back next year. By the way we were at the Myrtle Beach one.
Congratulations to your dancers for being in the overalls. We wish you overall experience would have been better. We have made some changes to our program for 2015. We have always tried to put a positive spin to the award names. Scores are available by request after they are removed from our website. If you have any additional questions or concerns please don\'t hesitate to contact us. Thank you for taking the time to review Star Talent.
My dancers and parents really enjoyed this competition. They were almost always on schedule or ahead which is really nice when you have younger ones. I loved that every dancer received a trophy. We will be going back next year. The staff was friendly and very helpful. However I did have some problems with my USB comments, some of my soloist only received one of the judges thoughts.
Hi thank you for you\'re review. We have all of the critiques on our hard drive. I apologize they did not all transfer. Simply email me the routines for which you are missing critiques and I can email them over to you. info@startalentproductions.com
We had an awesome time at Star Talent Productions this past weekend in Myrtle Beach! They were organized and ahead of time. ALL COMMENTS WERE ON FLASH DRIVE and given to the director. Whoever said they didn\'t give feed back was incorrect! Please post this comment so people will know. It is a wonderful competition. They actually give every student a trophy of their own!!!
Thanks so glad your dancers had a good time!
*Please read before investing any of your dance family\'s time and money* After attending ST in Myrtle Beach we returned home just as perplexed as disappointed. Although we received many great awards and overalls there seemed to be some inconsistencies in judging. With a group of defeated kids and no real answers we naturally would turn to our judge\'s score sheets, read the critiques, and get to work. We found NOTHING! Literally BLANK page after BLANK page! Nothing explaining point deductions or comments encouraging areas for improvement. I have never seen anything like it. The judge\'s feedback is an enormous part of our competition experience and allows for continued growth and improvement. It must be extremely difficult to sit through sometimes 400+ performances and maintain the same effort level but without personalized feedback there is no evidence the judges were even paying attention. Our dancers, teachers, families, directors, and owners invest way too much to throw their hands up and accept feeling a number simply got \"robbed.\" Unattended children running around backstage (we saw them too) may not necessarily be a deal breaker but knowing we would return home without insight as to why a number was scored they way it was would have been. Maybe we have just been spoiled for so many years and become accustomed to a different standard of judging? I really don\'t know but our money will be better spent elsewhere.
We are sorry you did not have the time you expected but All of your critiques are on the USB you received with your score sheets at the end of competition. We discourage my judges from writing comments on the sheets in order to keep their eyes on the routine the entire time. We choose to still have the sheets for you to see exactly how many points were deducted and in which category. The reason for using the USBs and audio critiques instead of paper critiques is that you can hear your music along with the critique so you know exactly what part of the dance your judge is referring to. If you do not have these critiques we will happily send a copy to the studio.
My students and I had an amazing time this past weekend at your regional event! The show ran on time and even early during some of hours of the day! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I was pleased with the judging and I love how we receive our critiques back at the end of the event! My students love the awards ceremony especially when they saw that duets/ trios all recieve a trophy! I am excited to attend their Nationals this summer!
Thank you for your comments! We\'re glad your dancers had a good time!
I had a wonderful experience at the Myrtle Beach regional this past weekend, just as I have every other time we have attended a Star Talent event. The level of competition was incredible and they were consistently on time or early, which is great for those traveling. The staff was helpful and the facility was great. We will be back again!
We had such a wonderful time at the competition last weekend! My daughters love the pins and they talk about how nice \"the people\" working are! As a parent I appreciate the fact that you keep the show moving! There is nothing more frustrating then going to a comp & having dead time...... this is one thing we never experience when we attend your competitions and I Thank You! We look forward to attending in the near future! Good Job
Thank you for a great weekend in Myrtle!! The staff was very friendly and helpful backstage and at the sound table -- judging was fair and every dancer got a pin and a trophy for ratings!! Thank you for running early on Sunday; we will definitely see you next year!!
Thank you for your comments! We\'re glad your dancers had a good time! Can\'t wait to see you next year!
Thank you for a great experience. Star Talent is by far the best competition out there. They consistently run on time or ahead of schedule. I love that every dancer receives a trophy to take home. The awards are substantial and you get your money\'s worth. I have been to other competitions where I paid much more for entry fees and walked away feeling ripped off, not the case here. I was also impressed with the professionalism of the staff, from the sales table, to backstage, to the director they were all helpful and friendly. My students and I felt welcomed from the moment we checked in. I love the levels of competition and felt the judging was fair and consistent. Throughout the years my studio has attended many competitions and I can honestly say Star Talemt is one of the best all around.
Thank you for running on time / early!! We had a fantastic weekend and love that each dancer gets awarded! We were happy to see that y\'all let dances go again when they had a music issue :)
Thank you for your comments!
This competition used to be one of my favorites, until this year. Way ahead of schedule which caused added stress to dancers trying to be ready in time. Judges almost out of their chairs dancing if they liked a song which I don\'t believe to be very professional. Scores not consistent at all. Don\'t think I will be back.
We\'re so sorry that you feel let down. With this competition running well into the evening every studio director was emailed that we were going to do everything in our power to run this event early. \"Always Be Prepared to Run One Hour Early\" was printed in the program, on your parent handout sheets, and the time scheduled sent to the studio 2 weeks ago. This year we added Pins in addition to the small trophies for every participants. They get more this year not less.Just as in previous years your studio participation trophies were boxed up and labeled for director pick up with your score sheets and audio critiques. Several announcements were made by the EmCee about trophy pick up
Just got back from the Myrtle Beach regional. The competition ran consistently ahead of schedule which I appreciated. My biggest complaint is that there was a young child running around backstage. The child almost ran out on stage a few times and once when our number was on stage, ran behind the rear curtain. What a distraction! I find that pretty unprofessional! Edited to add: Just to clarify - it was not just the girl on Sunday, there was a young boy backstage on Saturday. I was able to see the girl on Sunday from my seat in the auditorium so I am sure the judges and the dancers on stage saw her, too. And now I find out from our studio that most of our score sheets were returned to us with absolutely no comments. I also took issue with the one judge (mentioned by another reviewer) that almost seemed to coax the dancers on the stage if she liked the number.
Thank you for attending our Myrtle Beach regional. We tried to keep the competition moving along as some dancers were scheduled later in the evening. As for the small child I hope that you know that was not a child of a staff member permitted to run around. When our backstage manager noticed an unattended child backstage she approached the child who said she was looking for her Mommy. Fortunately the backstage manager was able to help the young girl find her mother. We are sorry you had a distraction.
Good competition and they continue to improve year after year. Sign up early as they do tend to fill up, especially in more popular cities. The staff is wonderful and very attentive.
Thanks!!!!
Great Competition! Fair and organized!
Had a great time this past weekend at Nationals! They ran a very smooth, on time competition. Staff was great as well. Will be attending again in the future!
Thanks! We look forward to seeing you again!
Enjoyed the regional it was on time and fun, however not the same experience at nationals. Overbooked acts for a three day competition started to early and went to late. Will more than likely do regional again but not nationals.
We are glad you enjoyed regionals and wish you had the same experience with Nationals. We had representatives from all of our Regional events, yes the competition was full and closed out, they were long days but we ran each day on time :) Each day started at 7:00 or 7:15 and went to final awards with Teens and Seniors at 10:30pm, younger dancers were out by 6:30pm on Friday, 8:00pm on Saturday and 11:00am on Sunday
We did Star Talent regionals for the first time this year. It was a good experience and the students and parents seemed to enjoy it. We are looking foward to attending Nationals next week. The only bad thing is I think sometimes the competition gets \"too full\" before it is closed out. We have routines that will be going on stage each morning right after 7 am for 3 days straight and will finish late each night. We are excited though and I am sure it will go well. The number of people attending speaks for itself! Everyone else must have enjoyed regionals as we did.
We hope you had a great time! We did 678 routines in 3 days, unfortunately we did have to turn some studios away as we got full :(. All 3 days were long but on time :) Final awards were for Teens and Seniors each day at 10:30pm
We enjoyed Star Talent so much! The judges feedback was detailed and beneficial to my dancers. The trophies were beautiful! and Big too! The energy was high and the staff was very friendly.
