COMPETITION DETAIL

My daughter attended Odyssey to compete her solo this past season. It was a good avenue to get up on stage but the competition was lacking in attendees. She was the only junior solo competing in the advanced division. Score cards are printed out and given to us at the end of the comp which seemed like a really old school way to do it.

We attended this competition in 2016 and it was the worst one we have ever been to. They were going so out of order we stood back stage for over an hour waiting to go on and then gave us no warning we were next. Then for a different dance they had our group go on more then an hour early and gave me no time to text my dancers parents causing a lot of them to miss their performance. One of my soloist was skipped even though we had checked in backstage on time. When I brought this to their attention they were extremely rude. The staff was not helpful at all and acted like we were an inconvenience to them.

Very well run competition. I like that the title category is automatically included in the overalls. Some competitions want to charge additional for that and it\'s really just trying to get additional money out of parents that ate already paying a lot of money to be there. Nice awards sessions and the owner and staff are on site available walking around. Really enjoyed!

Very nice event overall, with some administrative things that could be improved. The venue was beautiful, although it would have been nice to know ahead of time that no food is allowed at all in the theater. We never got a studio specific schedule and had to find the schedule online (phone calls were not returned). There is no online registration, and the forms are very tedious when you are entering multiple dances. That being said, as a smaller studio who competes for fun, we loved the event itself. The staff was nice, our dances scored well and we felt judged fairly (we got a mix of platinum, high gold, and gold). Our parents had a blast taking pictures at the venue, a old theater that gave an old Hollywood feel to the event. Despite wishing registration was easier (it\'s not fun trying to calculate average age by hand for 20 different dances), our coaches would like to return to Odyssey next year.

well.. oddssey is really small... you know how small it is when they are selling extra trophies for 20 dollars. they were delayed and kept on mixing up who would go next. we where suppost to have 20 numbers to get dressed but they got it mixed to where they had 2 numbers. there are other compitions out there

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Odyssey. I was so sad when they stopped coming to California. Praying you guys will return California real soon.

Overall, the competition was small, which made scheduling difficult. It was hard to follow any pattern. They had not printed the correct books and charged $5 for a paper printout of the schedule. I also found that the younger dancers and novices received little to no acknowledgment in awards, which can be discouraging. It was a much more positive experience for my older dancer.
