It was well ran and the awards were nice. I didn't really need to speak to the staff beyond the merch table but they were friendly. The facility wasn't the greatest imo (it was at a high school) but high schools are usually my least favorite due to the music room/band room usually being the dressing room for everyone. We were going to go again this year but they sold out at the location we were planning to go to before we could register.

We truly like nexstar. We've attended several nexstar events and have always enjoyed them. The staff is always friendly and super helpful. The set up is so nice and they try so hard to keep the judging fair. Over all they really do a great job. I just wish we could bring back the trophies!!
This was a really great experience and totally would recommend this competition!
Always a good competition and one of my daughter's favorites! One complaint I had this year was the lighting setup/rigging was out in the seating and blocked the view for a good portion of the seats. In past years the lighting was arranged differently and didn't hinder the view at all. I hope the lighting setup changes this year. Otherwise it was a great comp!
I attended Nexstar in Sparta 2016, the competition was amazing! The venue is one of the best venues you can get in Northern NJ (Sussex County Vo-Tech), and the judges were very nice and fun. The staff were incredible, the award sessions ran smoothly. The event was on time, and the competition overall was outstanding!
We haven't attended Nexstar for the past few years due to scheduling conflicts, but when my daughter was younger, it was one of her favorites. The staff was friendly and it ran smoothly. The awards ceremony always ran smoothly and quickly which parents appreciate. I can't say anything negative from my previous experience. Hopefully we can get to another Nexstar in the near future!
Overall, my studio had a somewhat enjoyable time at nexstar. The competition ran way ahead of schedule. which was helpful so that dancers didn't have to dance late at night. The awards ran smoothly and the stage was nice and big. Unfortunately, my dance teachers didn't even let me hear my critiques, since there actually were NONE. How does a dance judge sit through a 2:30 dance without critiquing ANYTHING? No my dance didn't get a perfect score and I don't have any comments to help me improve either. Also, there were a lot of technically advanced dancers in the intermediate category, which I thought was completely unfair to the dancers who actually belong in that category. Yes that's the studios fault, but the competition could have moved them up. The venue was nice but there were some very rude studios there.
I really like Nexstar National Talent Competition. The staff is amazing and always very welcoming. My only complaint if I would have one is that it has just gotten to big. We are a very small studio and I feel we tend to get overlooked. At other competitions we do really well but in the last few years we have not done well at Nexstar. It always seems to be the same studio winning which tends to normally be the larger studios. Other then that I love the competition and the staff.
Loved the Judges at Nextstar. Very informational with there critiques! The girls are able to learn from the critiques, and grow into even better dancer's.
Just finished off an amazing weekend at Nexstar! The competition ran over an hour ahead all weekend, which meant that routine order jumped around a bit, but not enough for it to be hard to follow. We were very grateful for the addition of the Zanesville regional because it is much closer to home for us and many others, was at the wonderful Secrest Auditorium, and is overall a lot cheaper(food, hotel, gas, etc) than traveling to bigger regional cities like Columbus, Pittsburgh, etc. The competition was a nice size considering it was Star Dance Alliance's first time touring to the area, it was a two day event. Not as big as your typical three day regional, but that's to be expected since its their first time in Zanesville. The staff was nice and seemed engaged throughout the whole weekend. The backstage manager, I believe his name is Jeremiah, was hilarious and took the time to interact with us despite being super busy, and he did his job very well. I didn't really notice any big studio favoritism going on like we see at a lot of competitions, so it was nice to see fair and well deserved results distributed among the other studios! This competition had a more laid back, positive atmosphere, which was really refreshing to see after a hectic weekend last week at a different competition. There was a decent amount of entries in every level, it didn't seem to attract a certain level studio more than another, which was also nice to see. The judges seemed engaged the whole weekend, they watched the routines without distractions, were awake, and paid attention. This competition had really nice pictures and videos! Great quality! Nice venue as well! Very spacious dressing areas, many electrical outlets, several accessible bathrooms, lots of seating, and a huge stage. Only real complaint from the weekend was there weren't any food or drinks being sold, not even water. Not that I expected there to be, its the first time the competition has come to this area. Also, me being local, I know that Secrest Auditorium only allows water inside of the theater, so it may have been the venue's request not to have food sold in the lobby. I had a great weekend, I really hope Nexstar comes to Zanesville again next year!
This competition was fine and our girls did well. Awards were fine but the ceremony kind of dragged on a bit. They defiantly favored the contemporary how-many-tricks-can-I-do girls. We have a couple of those so it's fine but I miss seeing kids actually dance on stage. Overall a good competition with mid level talent. This is a good competition to attend if you need to gain confidence.
We attended your regional event in Texarkana this past weekend. I'm glad you were able to get the music problems fixed eventually. It would be nice to see more specialty awards for duets/trios. Our studio is very small and we are not able to compete with groups. At the awards ceremony we kept seeing the same studios over and over receiving group awards - but nothing special for the duet/trios. Backstage etiquette was lacking from some of the other studio dancers and mothers. Arrive early if you want space to get ready - please don't take it upon yourself to move other peoples' bags, duffles, etc.
First time at Nexstar this past weekend...not impressed. They tend to like little kids and contemporary dances. It seemed like the judges we had looked down the entire time the dancers were on stage. Overall, it was just very low energy. Boring really. We have been to a sister competition, Revolution, and it was the same. It wasn't that our team didn't do well, they really did. It just wasn't fun. Felt like we were all being rushed and herded through like cattle.
We have been attending Nexstar Talent for the last 5 yrs ever since my daughters started competing. You could not ask for a nicer group of people to work with. The staff is always encouraging the dancers and helping in anyway they can to make not only the dancers but the parents, teachers and guest feel as welcome as possible.
Nexstar has always been one of my favorite competition. The staff is amazing.
Just got back from Nationals. Great experience!! It was very well run...always ran ahead of time. Awards were well done and quick. The staff were all great, especially the amazing man who ran the backstage area. He made the experience even better for our dancers and that is greatly appreciated, as they work very hard at what they do so it was great to hear him cheering for all of the teams. Overall a great experience!!
Attended nationals, judging was very inconsistent with regionals. Wished more tap numbers were featured in the Big Show. Only so much lyrical you can sit through. The staff I interacted with was great!
We LOVE this competition!! Look forward to it every year. The venue is great with a lot going on in town. Judging was consistent and when there was an issue with another studio not following the rules, they looked into it and fixed the problem, no questions asked. Mr. Jeremiah is the best and makes everyone feel special. We will be attending nationals again this year. :)
This competition gives out many high golds but barely any golds and platinums. I also, did not like how small venue was or the quality of the trophies that were given out. They tend to run way behind as well. Overall though this is not the worst competition I have ever been to but it was definitely not the best.
We did not enjoy this competition particularly. Judging was inconsistent with what we had seen at other competitions this year. Dances that had received Platinum ratings and placed in the top 3 at every other competition this year didn\'t place at all, while dances that had not done well at other competitions scored and placed much higher at this one. This was not just the case for our studio, but for several studios in attendance. Awards were haphazard & the announcer seemed confused on several occasions, giving the impression that she wasn\'t sure what she was announcing was correct. It did seem that one studio that was new to the competition received a very large share of the awards, and many of our parents & dancers felt that the competition was trying to ensure that that studio would return next year. We appreciated having a schedule 2 weeks in advance of the competition, but the order of dances in the program was not followed at all; instead dances were thrown on stage way out of order. The competition did run early, so I\'m sure it was efficient, but parents had no idea when their kids would be dancing, and we did have parents miss seeing their kids on stage. Backstage staff members were helpful & friendly, but not particularly knowledgeable. The dressing rooms were crowded and overheated, and concessions were limited. Judges critiques were basically non-existent. Only one of the 3 judges had any comments at all, and even those were minimal at best and did not correspond at all with scoring. This was not a competition I want to return to next year.
I always enjoy Nexstar. The leveling of the competition makes it \"fair\" for all performance levels. The competition was ahead of schedule (by about 30-40 minutes) all weekend long. This is great for those of us who need to be there all day, but makes it sometimes difficult when trying to coordinate grandparents\' arrivals to see performances. Awards are always easy to understand (use basic Gold, High Gold, Platinum), scoring guide is printed in program. A few results left some of us scratching our heads, but that\'s normal for every competition.
Loved this competition! Felt like the judging was very fair and professional!
I just attended this competition last night and I am going back tomorrow. As a dancer, I really enjoyed it. I felt the scoring was fair, as it was pretty difficult to get a platinum, but it also wasn\'t impossible, like some competitions make it. Our studio isn\'t one that gets in with the judges and becomes friends with them just to get a good score, and we got a platinum. So I feel like it was really fair. The stage was great to dance on, it wasn\'t too slick or too sticky. The only con I had was when a girl from my studio got called a really mean name by one of the other dancers. The girl from my studio was walking down the steps while the other girl continued to call her the name every time she stepped down. My friend didn\'t want to cause any problems so she didn\'t look at who the girl was or say anything to her, but that was our only bad experience last night. Other than that, the staff was incredibly friendly and helped us out a lot. Will definitely return as my teachers thought it was great too.
Pros: Excellent competitors and judging. Cons: The venue is not competition friendly. You cannot bring in any outside food or beverage. They only sell french fries, hotdogs, chicken tenders, soda and water for $4.00 a bottle. Not a healthy choice for dancers. The worst part is the announcing. Simply cannot understand the lineup or the awards. The words are so muffled you literally sit in the audience wondering what is going on. The announcer could slow down a little. He talks so fast no one knows who won what award.
Pro: Great competition, very well run and professional. Cons: Would love a top 10 overall for groups when it\'s a large/sold-out event. It was nice to see top 10 placements on your online results page on Monday after the comp, but it would have been nice to know at the event itself.
Amazing REAL staff.....makes you feel at home and know it is fair......We love nexstar......you will not be disappointed with this comp........love love love thats it
Nexstar is definitely one of our favorites! The staff is fun. The competition that we went to was well organized. We definitely recommend Nexstar!
Staff is amazing. Competition is fun!
Loved it!
Great energy, great timing, friendly staff, venue could have been a bit better, (we were using a very hot men\'s restroom as a dressing room) parking was hard, but the NexStar itself was really great!
Overall a very well run competition. Generally stayed on time. Judges were friendly.
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS COMPETITION!! Staff is pheneomenal awards are earned and its so fun!!
Nexstar had the best judging of any competition we attended. My daughter is a tapper so I don\'t get to say \"good judging\" very often. Only negative was the sound system at the venue (Syracuse OnCenter). Couldn\'t understand the announcers before the dances and the music was very muffled. Awards were fair.
:)
We attend at least one Nexstar competition each year and always have a great time!! The kids have so much fun!
Our studio always enjoys Nexstar and appreciates the feedback they get from the judges. The venue (Akron Civic Theater) is beautiful and the girls love performing there. We will be attending Nexstar Nationals this year and are looking forward to it!
This is our first competition of every season and it\'s a great start!
We enjoy Nexstar!!!!
We attend Nexstar every year in columbus, oh and love it. The staff is so fantastic and friendly, especially Jeremiah. I love how they cheer for the dwmcers backstage. The event is always run smoothly and many times is ahead of schedule. The judges are friendly and offered really great feedback on my daughter\'s solo. Their pictures and videos are wonderful. Look forward to this one every year
We attend Nexstar every year. I have always loved the staff and the competition is ran very smoothly. We attended Nationals for the very 1st time this year in Sandusky Oh. I was not surprised to see again it ran so smoothly. Wish my daughter would have made it to the big show but maybe next year. Overall I thought it was a great time and still continue to go to Nexstar regionals.
Will not be returning to this competition ever! Staff was fairly friendly just not very professional. The judging seemed fair enough but pins for the price of entrance fees was a little silly. The trophies were not made well at all super cheap. The prices for pictures/DVDs were outrageous and they pack up and leave before some people even have a chance to look or possibly buy. Most parents are busy with their child and can\'t look until later on or sometimes even once they get home which was not an option here.
I hope I can come back and edit my rating after we attend nationals-I have emailed twice over the course of 2 weeks asking for a general schedule because the hotel where they are having this competition does not allow any changes to your reservation after a month prior and it is pricey.I have received absolutely no response. If this is something they cannot or do not provide an email response indicating such would be appropriate. No response at all is just rude. Regionals were fine- it would have been nice if they recognized top 10 in more categories rather than just top 5.
Got there on Sunday afternoon to compete a solo and the tables were already closed down for the day so didn\'t get a program and was unsure where to turn music in. Got done ahead of schedule so that was a plus. Judging seemed fair but thought for the cost that the adjudications for solos would be better than a pin. If we would not have placed in overalls and gotten a plaque also we would have been VERY disappointed. Don\'t know if we will return again considering that it would be a lot of wasted money if we went again and didn\'t place in overalls.
Overall, I thought this was a good competition. It ran early, and the staff was very flexible and friendly. The judges were happy, smiling & paying attention, and we found the judging to be fair. My one complaint would be the venue. The Paramount is a beautiful old theatre with a lot of local history, but it simply does not have the space needed for a competition of this size. The dressing rooms cannot accommodate an entire production line and the backstage area can\'t hold all the props. The lack of an elevator makes it hard to get costumes up to top floor dressing rooms, and the lack of nearby parking means you have to drag bags for several blocks. Please consider other Chicago venues for next year.
Love it! First time ever to our city! Fabulous!
A very good competition to attend to set the bar for the season. Judges critiques are very useful to help the dancers improve, scoring was very fair. Very well organized, adequate dressing room area and friendly staff. Only downfall is The venue, need more warm-up and routine run through space. Our young dancers learned a lot as it was their first year at competition. Will definitely be attending again.
Went to Nexstar for the first time in April...It was enjoyable but not amazing. In my city it was HUGE--mostly 2 or 3 really big studios who seemed to just have endless dances in an attempt to win everything possible, which coming from a small studio can be kind of irritating. But the levels seem fair, and awards are short and sweet which I like. The only downside was that they seemed not to honor the schedule at all- they just sent dances onstage in whatever order they checked in backstage which was extremely hard to follow, and the emcee was impossible to understand so you had no idea what you were watching! Not to mention they only announced the name of the routine not the division/style/age/etc, and it\'s not like it was organized in that way to begin with, so you could watch a dance and be dead wrong about what it was entered under. Also they were way ahead of schedule which seems like a good idea but is extremely stressful for dancers. Also wish the program was easier to follow and said the name of the studio, seems like more important information than the names of the 100+ dancers in a production number. Pictures/videos are overpriced and not great quality. Overall, though, we had fun and enjoyed the competition!
This was our first time competing at Nexstar. What a great competition! Very family-friendly! At every awards session over the weekend in Worcester, Ma. they said wonderful things to support the dancers to remind them to have a healthy perspective on the awards. It was a very nice touch. And they ran early! I liked the set up of the stage and the dressing room. It was easy to see everything and the space flowed well. We have only great things to say about Nexstar.
We did this one for years and it was hard to walk away....things we love are 1.the backstage staff, in a nutshell they are just FUN! 2. the energy at awards, it is not just an emcee reading a list, it is an event. reasons we are taking a break from it 1.too many props, I swear every group for the last three years has brought a stage full of props, half the time they are just backdrops. If you aren\'t going to use the prop, leave it at home!!! It takes ages for them to set up and slows the pace of the day. 2. They do run early sometimes, and I think that can be as bad as running late. If you are supposed to dance at 1:30 and they are calling for you at noon, that can create panic!! 3. Judges that don\'t really seem to understand what a recreational studio is capable of. 4. And this is my complaint for EVERY dance competition, but they give the awards backwards...in other words the lower divisions should be flooded with high awards, encouraging the kids to move up division and build some self esteem. In the highest level of competition, it should be only the top 5-10% of dancers that get the highest awards. Basically in the lower division if you make it through your dance without falling or crying, you should be rewarded because honestly, the kids that are challenged by those requirements are the only kids that should be in lowest division anyway!
This was my second year competing at Nexstar and I enjoyed it much better than the first year! It is my 3rd year of competing, and my 2nd year we attended Nexstar as our first competition and did not have a pleasant experience. I returned to Nexstar this year and had a much more enjoyable experience. The stage was still the same, in the middle of a convention center but was more sturdy this time. The backstage managers were very helpful and encouraging. One of them even took selfies with us on his phone which was very nice and funny. The competition ran early the first day I competed, which was Saturday which caused some family members to miss the performance. The awards were fun and didn\'t last too long. The backstage area was still the same, and the large studios all brought their hanging racks which took up almost all the space. Most of the girls on our team expected for there to be outlets so they could curl or straighten their hair if needed, which we could only find one outlet which caused us to spend too much time on hair. There was more practice space, which they had roped off the back of the dressing area for space to practice your routines. Anyone could enter the backstage area from the \"auditorium\" which was just chairs on concrete. There were many dance moms that had approached the backstage area which was unprofessional. In general, the competition was good and I will plan on attending it again next year! Our studio had a great time although the big studios had dominated the overalls.
Pros - The competition ran up to an hour early, which I loved. The staff was super friendly and fun. The judges knew how to judge tap!!! Not just our studio, but all of the studios there. DD does a tap solo every year and it\'s straight tap, no leaps, no acro, no kicks, no tilts, etc. Most comps don\'t know what to do with tap and it can be frustrating. They did not hand out Platinums like candy. Out of 38 solos, 6 got Platinum. Personally, I prefer that. I would rather it be harder to get than expected. They gave some nice Judges Choice Awards. And they were not spread to each studio. What I really enjoyed is that this comp attracted studios that danced a wide variety of genres. I\'m a stats girl and I count how many dances in each category by genre. Usually it\'s approx 60% lyrical and contemporary (I cannot tell the difference), 30% jazz and 10% other. Not so this weekend. Ballet, tap and even a few amazing belly dances were just as common as the stomach cramp dances. Great venue, lots of space. Cons - you could take your own non flash pics but I prefer to watch my kid dance instead of taking pics. The professional photographer was at the front of the stage with the judges. Pictures were mostly of one dancer at a time and lots with body parts, even heads, cut off. The lighting was too harsh and my pale kid looked like a ghost. They were also super expensive, definitely a pass. My only other beef was that they didn\'t follow the order of dances assigned. I don\'t mind a few changes, it happens, but they were bouncing all over the place during groups. It was impossible to know when to send a group backstage.
7-28-2014 pre-register for Chicago competition in May 2015 March 3 2014 go online to register and discover only 50 openings ( fortunately don\'t need that many but book those I do need ) Conformation is emailed to me March 3, a few days later $7500 goes through on my cc. March 23 I receive a \" sorry we have to kick you out email \" - note I have been a customer for years I write to owner Mr Kent Helton - to date no reply - Put the discussion up on FB teachers site - sounds like another studio must have come along with bigger groups / production , more money so get rid of the studios that do solo\'s. Still can\'t get over the owner not having the curtesy to reply to me - sad day when the now ex customer doesn\'t matter
Moved along well
This was our first year going to Nexstar. The scoring seemed fair. The awards given were nice trophies for first in category and plaques for the top ten, five, etc. Overall it seemed like a well run competition, but the awards ceremonies were a little long. The announcer was a little too wordy in some sections when they could can been more concise.
We love Nexstar at PSOD--have been coming every year since I danced. This year, we placed so well the teacher\'s received a free cruise! We are believers in Star Dance Alliance system of competitions and cannot be swayed away :)
Not too bad. Son really liked the competition. Was a fairly small comp. Will probably return
Overall this comp was ok
Tried Nexstar and we felt it was not very studio friendly and ran very late and off schedule. Otherwise ok.
This competition ran very late & dances ran WAY out of order. At our regional there was one studio who came with multiple large group numbers with intricate costume/hair changes & lots of large props requiring a fair amount of set up time. This caused MAJOR delays (like sitting & waiting 10-15 minutes between dances sometimes) and meant that the competition ran WAY behind schedule. The dressing room situation was not great & the people backstage were downright rude a couple of times. Awards were generous, and judging seemed consistent with what we saw at other competitions this year.
Good, but holy cow figure out the awards! Late late nights.
I attended this competition as an independent and the competition is pretty good. The staff was very nice and welcoming toward me. I also really appreciated how they treated everyone the same, from big studios to small studios all the way down to independent entries. Even at the award ceremony, everyone got a fair shot at winning awards and prizes. They did have a tendency to skip around a lot, but that\'s always expected at dance competitions, as it all depends on who\'s ready to perform and who isn\'t. However, when I got my video critiques from the judges, the third judge didn\'t even say anything about any of my two solos, which I found both appalling and disappointing. So, despite these two snafus, I had a pretty good experience with Nexstar. I\'m unsure if I will attend next year, but if I can work it into my crazy busy schedule, I would love to come back and compete a solo or two!
Great competition! We loved our experience here!
We do Nexstar every year. It has been better in the past. We went to a different location this year. They were running ahead over an hour. We had 3 dances go on before the 1st one was even suppose to. One studio seemed to take everything. With the scores our teams got you would have thought we would have scored higher. Other groups must have been perfect.
My first time going. The experience was a little chaotic. The parents coming in and out of the side stage was a little distracting. Other parents were very rude and aggressive, even more so than in other sporting events I\'ve been to.
we attend this comp almost every year, but every year I dislike it a little more. LIghts were way too bright, I was on stage to accept an award and I couldn\'t keep my eyes open, not sure how our dancers did it all weekend. they ran all over the place, no order what so ever. let other studios switch what order they wanted their dances to go in. I like their special awards and I like that they try and keep awards moving. I don\'t like the venue, really dislike the convention center. parking is always crazy and dressing room space is limited and people constantly walk through your dressing room. wish they would let the top 5 at least say their studio and choreographer. I do enjoy their nationals though. they have the big show that it\'s possible for any level dancer to get into not just the top level. enjoyed the practice floors they set up too.
Overall experience was ok.
Nexstar is tied for first in competitions that we compete in, in my eyes...Class act!
The venue was not very good. There was dust all over the stage. Otherwise it was well run with fair judging.
Ran very smoothly, held in a beautiful theater. Confused how my daughter got the highest score in her caragory but 1st place trophy for it went to someone in the jazz catagory.. ????? But I didn\'t question it. Also Disappointed that soloists only receive a PIN... Staff was very nice..
Ok - but they ran 3-4 hours ahead of schedule and kids were getting pushed on stage as soon as they came to the stage, without much time to get ready and they felt rushed.
Fun competition! Not accommodating to large prop drop off and pick up! Judges were not helpful in their critiques! Ran out of order and inconsistent with times. Dancers spread out too much over 3 days! Dancers started early on a Friday afternoon! Dressing area nice and spread out! Other studios do not place dancers in proper level
Everyone was so helpful, nice and accommodating. They truly put the fun and passion of dance before everything else. Such a positive and enjoyable competition! We are definitely going back this year. I highly recommend it!
I love Nexstar, the judges are fair, the competition is fun, and the location in my area is great! Can\'t wait until Nationals, I am sure a great time to be had!!
I enjoyed this competition, they gave out more trophies then other competitions we have attended which the kids enjoy. Scheduling was horrible, they did not follow the order printed in the program, we were supposed to have a quick change only 4 numbers between out routines, we hussled had out dancer ready and they ended up waiting for over an hour before they went on. The competition ran ahead of schedule which is always a positive but wished they would have followed the order better. Makes it hard to know when your dancer will be hitting the stage.
Did not follow schedule. Dancers were ready then told to wait back stage. Jumped all over the place in the schedule. Did not make for a smooth running weekend. Some dances called up top five, some top ten, wasnt consistent.
The only thing i wish was that the changing room was a mess we barley had room for are whole team to get ready with other teams in the same area!!!
Needs more energy and have more fun with it!
This is the most poorly run competition we\'ve ever encountered. The dances were run completely out of order and the stage manager was extremely rude. We had acts checked in backstage on time that needed to wait 45 minutes or longer while they ran dances that were scheduled for hours later or earlier. No one had any idea when they would be dancing due to this excessive skipping around. Highly unprofessional.
First time personally competing at nextar, and it proved to be a disappointment. Attracts top studios in the area but I\'m not sure why. Dances were not in order, rude stage manager and overall low quality competition. Plaques and trophies were cheap plastic, pictures were blurry, barely any critiques in videos. Pictures were too expensive for their quality and starwars music at awards ruined the mood. Judging, however was fair and focused on technique. My studio will most likely stay away next year, even though we have gone to this comp for many years. Nextar just does not put in the care and passion.
I was not happy at Nationals last year! Someone was allowed to take another dance from another studio under a different studios name.
Enjoyed it. Great flow kept the dances running on time and worked with quick changes.
Did not like how they skipped around. It was very upsetting to those who were ready on time to dance.
Competition was well organized. Fun atmosphere.
We liked our experience there. Kids had fun. That\'s what matters most.
We enjoy participating in Nexstar every year! The staff is very friendly and always are ready to help in anyway they can to make the event more enjoyable!
We really enjoy this competition. The venue is nice, the staff is outstanding. They make the kids excited to be there. Their awards are great. Their nationals is also excellent.
This was a good competition and we will be returning again next season! The judging was fair; the competition as a whole really promoted the love of dance at any level making all the dancers feel welcomed. As a smaller studio, I didn\'t at all feel left out or unimportant. The only reason there aren\'t 5 stars is the backstage manager wasn\'t really friendly. He actually seemed quite annoyed when I asked him questions...which were only 2 for the entire day! Other than that, everyone else was friendly and helpful.
After our third year with Nexstar I am hoping we do not go back. Between lackluster judges, unorganized scheduling and obnoxious judges comments (personal attacks are not necessary)I would prefer to give it no stars. We have never experienced a comp where you couldn\'t even get a friendly smile from a judge during a performance. Eye rolling, frowns and a general lack of interest is what they portrayed to the performers. Definately not worth the time or money.
Just an okay dance competition. Reasonably professional, but not my favorite.
Wish I could give this 2 1/2 stars...overall well ran and on time. My major complaint is the obvious leveling down that is allowed. Example...when you see a \"prestar\" dancer doing a solo throwing aerials and standing back tucks there is no way they are a novice dancer.
Great staff and comp…..fun and friendly and fair…my fav my far
Great, solid competition with fair judging and great awards!
we like nexstar a lot! haven\'t been in a few years because of timing and location, but we enjoyed it while we were there! very fun and professional.
We have attended their Nationals and Regionals for several years now and have found the staff to be extremely accommodating and supportive. We love how they run ahead of schedule and how friendly the backstage staff is. Love, love, love Jeremiah.
good competition. on time and there for the dancers!!
Really enjoyed the competition. Timely and everyone was really nice.
Good, solid comp. We really like it.
My favorite!!! Started late, due to judges flight, but was a excellent competition!
Nexstar is one of my very favorite competitions! Our kids from the studio enjoy it too!! :)
Used to be good in the early days when they first started. Now that they\'ve gotten into the swing of the \'Starpower Greed Factory\', not so good anymore. They\'ve also fallen into the Mega Money Studio favoritism routine.
Nexstar is a favorite of our parents and students. Nothing outstanding about them, but the kids always have lots of fun with their staff.
In the Star Power family, they also cater to big money studios. Not a fan of anything Star Power related. There is no integrity with the Star Power family of competitions. They only care about the money.
My kids really love Nexstar. They requested that we attend again next year. Overall it was a good competition. No complaints.
Enjoyed it. Nothing went wrong, ran on time and awards were a normal length. Judges were ok and critiques ok - nothing special. Nothing bad.
Very high energy competition which we loved. Hated the non-following of schedule. Meant that many numbers went out of order (I would presume to get out of town a little early) and we were competing and doing awards at midnight on a Sunday. Typically two rooms, which can prove to be a challenge for teachers/parents.
I didn't like this competition as much as others I have been to. They didn't score very fairly and they didn't give out anything below a gold when some of those dances deserved a silver or less. It was also very unorganized and extremely chaotic. Also when we got our videos back they only had one or two critiques on each and only one judge spoke and our studio mostly goes for the critiques so it was quite disappointing. And the pictures looked awful and blurry
Nice comp. Well run & usually attracts top studios. I liked that they mixed the three levels during the days.
We really enjoy Nexstar! This competition is a lot of fun, well run, and the judges in our experience offer good critiques. We have experienced slightly inconsistent judging on occasion. Would love to see them use the range of awards more- most common is High Gold, very few Gold or Platinum, and nothing below Gold. Love that they give a lot of Special Judges awards and great staff- especially Jonathan the backstage manager. He really took the time to get to know the kids and remembered them from last year! The comp was not over booked, had reasonable hours and ran on time. It is a favorite of our studio and we look forward to it yearly!
